Sometimes, to stand up for what you believe in, you have to put on armor. For soldiers on a battlefield, it comes in camouflage and face paint. Blending in to hide from the enemy is one way warriors hunt their prey. But make no mistake. The strongest aren’t afraid to face their enemies and stare them in the eyes. Flaunting, not hiding, their strength. Six authors. Six stories of the power and strength of women united in fierce determination to win wars, not battles, which touch us all. From domestic violence and substance abuse, to overcoming nearly impossible obstacles, these stories will touch you and serve as inspiration never to run from a battle call.
First off, the cover of this anthology is stunning. The stories all fit the theme in pleasantly unique ways.
Rock Bottom - I enjoyed reading Faith's story. It was hard to wrap my head around all that she had been through, and yet she kept such a brave face. I was constantly wanting to know more about her and also what would happen to her next. This story had me engaged and always wanting to know more. It was a lovely look at the strength that can reside in the human spirit.
Mercy - I was already very intrigued about this story right from the first few pages. I instantly wanted to know what Mercy had gotten herself into. Her predicament was a tough one and I was eager to see how she was going to handle it. I hated watching her struggle with things. This was not the life she had envisioned. As the story went on, things got more and more intense. By the end I had overcome the shock and found peace, right along with Mercy.
No Warrior Left Behind - I'm sure this story will hit home with many women who may have experienced similar injustices. Lacey's strength and determination were admirable. I really enjoyed this addition to the anthology.
The Wandering Warrior - This story started off with a hefty dose of heartache. It depicted an abundance of pain, but also an incredible amount of strength on Millie's part. I admired the tough position she was in, trying to decide whether or not to keep holding on or let go. This was a great story to have as a part of this collection. It was the unique strength to be found within oneself after a terribly heartbreaking experience.
Outsiders - Sage's plight was one that demonstrated a harsh reality that many struggle with. I admired her strength and determination to make it through the tough times on the horizon. Her love for her sisters was admirable and had me rooting for them to be able to stay together. I could feel her stress as she worried about what to do. She was so strong to even attempt all of this. The ending shocked me and broke my heart. After all the hard times they had endured, I didn't expect the bottom to completely drop out on them. I was absolutely speechless.
The Revenge of Lisa Lipstick - Though the beginning of this story had some sad circumstances, Lisa was quite the firecracker! I was very intrigued by her nightmares and also by her response to the man in the bookshop. As the story went on and she was able to piece together her past, I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen next. I thought this story was quite thrilling and I am looking forward to reading more from Jim Ody.
This anthology was incredibly entertaining from start to finish and I enjoyed each author's unique take on what it means to be a strong woman.
The stories in this anthology had me, cheering and going, "yay"!
I enjoyed them all, but I had a couple of favorites, which I hope will be turned into novels: No Warrior Left Behind, The Wandering Warrior and the Outsiders.
Then there is The Revenge of Lisa Lipstick, could this one day be a comic book?
Wow, now I must seek out each one of these authors out, individually!
This was a brilliant anthology about strong women from different walks of life being strong in different ways. All the stories were strong and powerful and have made me want to read more by the authors, which a good anthology should make you do. The stories were long enough to give an in depth look into each person's character and give a back story where relevant.
This anthology is for strong women, those who want to be stronger, and those who love them. Great authors, wonderful stories of women facing fear, harassment, and more and overcoming it.
