Kate has moved to London and is embarking on a new life. She has become an independent, high-achieving young lawyer, who still hasn’t figured out who she really is yet. But when she moves into a house-share in north London and meets Lorraine, an enigmatic filmmaker, whose room is next to hers, an intense bond quickly develops. After an epic night-out clubbing, Kate’s crush on Lorraine leads Kate to question and discover her true sexuality. A slow-burn romance about awakening desire and finding the courage to follow your heart.
Pros ○ Location - London, UK ○ Great start for a new author ○ This read felt fresh as it employed situations and locations other lesfic books rarely use ○ The same can be said about UK specific use of language ○ Quite wonderful supporting cast
Cons ○ No major ups or downs. Lacks structure. ○ The slow burn was a bit too slow for my taste
Ye old tale of a straight woman discovering she's not so straight so boyfriend gets the boot. A new city, a new job and sapphic delights are calling to Kate. So she goes to London to find it all. While the premise is nothing new, the execution of it makes this book stand out in the crowd. Not to mention this being a great debut book. I'm looking forward to what Lisa Elliot will write next.
Where to start? One of the best opening chapters ever - totally hooked from there! Even made me go down the gym. Yes, it was that good. Excellent first book - I await the second with excitement! Thank you.
I loved this book! I found it quite realistic as we followed Kate's journey of self realisation and acceptance. It's a gentle build and gives you time to relate to and understand where the characters are coming from, and also builds anticipation. Obviously I was rooting for Kate and Lorraine and I found each moment they were together electrifying, sensual and sexy. I have been to a fitness class before, so I found the spin instructor hilarious. The dancing scenes were HOT. I've rated it a 5 because I feel it's right for the lesbian romance genre.
A good coming out & finding yourself story. Enjoyed the connection to the two main characters and I found it very relatable. I got caught into the story quickly and wanted to keep reading. I loved the workout and dancing scenes. It even motivated me to get back into spinning🚴🏻♀️ classe. Couldn't give it 5 stars just bc it was a bit too slow burn for me and I felt some parts dragged a bit. Maybe I’m impatient, but I wanted the 2 main characters to get together sooner. Overall, a very enjoyable read that I do recommend.
I loved the characters in this book. The premise set up was excellently written. Each character served an important part of story and the chemistry between Lorraine and Kate was exciting. Learning and dealing with their sexuality helped this story along and understanding what Lorraine was going through helped Kate understand her more. I just think the coming together of Lorraine and Kate was dragged out way too long. It sort of threw the stories fast paced into a slow tale spin. Still loved the story and still a fan!
This is a very nice love story. I got really impatient waiting for the main characters to express their feelings. The story is well written. With a nice ending.
It's a lovely slow romance for a while I thought it was like oil tankers maneuvering it took so long fir them to get together. I've never fallen for a flatmate,it sounds like a great way to have to find a new place to live if it falls apart. It was interesting watching someone come out and realise she fancied another woman. But gander seemed to have musfired for duite a while. I do think the book is missing a few chapters at the end to say how ever worked out or a sequel with their relationship.
Two strangers Kate and Lorraine found each other but it took a while. They had to find them selves and then they finally found each other. The plot is beautiful and the characters are great. I recommend this book for romance readers.
Meeting as random flat mates is a less common trope, but it is a great way to bring together two women who would not ordinarily encounter each other. This was an engaging tale from the beginning with a decent supporting cast to help move things along. Kate and Lorraine's chemistry was obvious from the beginning even if the two of them were slow on the uptake. If anything the slow-burn angst went on longer than necessary. The ending was both sweet and steamy. That said, a short epilogue would be a nice addition.
I won't rate it, because it wouldn't be fair to the book, which is interesting, but very much not my cup of tea. I like slow burn romances, but this is a very slow burn, a very very slow burn. I mean at one point I started to anticipate 'To Be Continued...' at the end of each chapter. I lost interest at the 2/3 mark of the book, but skimmed to the end. If you like romances like this, then it's worth it.
