Gwen’s barely gotten a taste of normal when her resident god shows up with an assignment. The bridge between the human world and the world of the gods is weakening, and the nine hosts of Heimdall must find each other if they hope to fix it. One small problem—Gwen and the Keens must travel to another world to find Heimdall’s remaining hosts.
Gwen has always relied on books for her education, but no amount of reading can prepare her for what waits outside the human world. The people are different. The rules are different. She’s different.
As Gwen struggles with her growing attraction to her stepsiblings, loyalties are tested and sacrifices made. But when the giant-infested Joaquin threatens to come between them, how much will she sacrifice to unify the group?
This is a slow-burn Why Choose romance appropriate for ages 16+ due to mild language and adult situations.
I so.etimez have mixed feelings about novels that try out doung a rever harem novels catering towards the YA and NA genre, but I think this series manages to hit the nail on the head. There are a diverse number of personalities included some tasteful girl on girl action, and all up I feel this series successfully covs a wide gamut od both the paranormal and fantasy markst. Looking forward to book three.
2.75 ish. I am definitely torn on this book. The last 30% really saved it for me and almost made me like it. The first 70% was excruciating to get through. The FMC Gwen was a hot dang mess through most of this book. She was whining or fighting her feelings or trying to run scared through most of the book up until the end. I was thinking to myself OMG I'm going to have to DNF this book because I just cant stand the emotional turmoil that is happening here. Not only that, but what Finn goes through in this book was really frustrating and heartbreaking at the same time. The Harem Dynamic in this book is just a little weird with them all being siblings and also weird because they are all so different that all of them doubt their connection thinking its only their god pieces bringing them together. It just really messed with my head a little.
In this second book of the Hosting gods series Gwen and her siblings journey up and through Yggdrasil to try and find the remaining pieces of Heimdall their resident God. Finn is battling his Christian beliefs Vs. carrying a piece of a god he doesn't believe in pulling farther and farther from the group when in actuality they need to be closer and closer. Really the first 70% was really rough for the characters and the reader. They finally all pull their heads out and get down to business. There is a reason Gwen is considered the "heart" of the group. How she feels influences all the choices the group makes, but there is still more in store for our group and I can't help but feel that the worst with the emotional turmoil and pity parties is over. Thankfully. But who knows, Ragnarok is just around the corner.
Okay turns out that Finn is going to be acting weird and from the reviews I've seen the author makes the step siblings vibe weird despite them not being blood or having grown up together and I'm just not into it. Nope. Finn is my least liked character he just makes me feel WEIRD with how his faith is being approached so the fact that just makes this feel like a series I'm not interested in or going to enjoy.
Anyway, this is the second RH series I've tried this week that suck so my luck is not great.
After the first book, I skimmed and then skipped to the end of this one.
First off how old is the main character? It seems to go back and forth between 15 and 16. But seems to have settled on 15, and a sex scene with a 15 year old is just ick. Fade to black on the sex if it’s really that important to the plot.
Then there’s everyone in the RH being her step-siblings, them having one God’s essence split up between them, and the author making a big deal about them being related by marriage. The incest vibe gets creepy (which it shouldn’t be IMHO since they aren’t actually related and they did not grow up together). Yet the author managed to make it seem gross.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
I liked the first book a lot so I was really excited to read this one. I have to say, it was good but there were many times I got frustrated with the characters.
It's not a bad, frustrated because some of the reactions were very real reactions that anyone could have. Not all characters embrace the path that was chosen for them. But I don't know how I feel with the direction this plot may be going towards. I hoping in the next book it turns around. Most of the times when I became frustrated with the characters it was because it was real reactions that I couldn't really fault them towards. The characters are really young, I had to keep that in mind.
But, there is one thing that drove me insane, one character. I don't want to give to much a way but it annoyed me to no end when/how they dealt with this character and the problems he created. I don't understand how they could be 1) easily manipulated 2) not see that the things going wrong were caused by him 3) come up with some type of group decision about how they were going to deal with this character.
I will be reading the next one, if there is another one coming out!
Ignite picks up from where Emerge ended and we are quickly thrown back into the fantastic world of Norse mythology that Lena Mae Hill creates so vividly. Our Band of heroes and heroines, led by Gwen, continue their adventures and pick up some new characters along the way.
Danger lurks and tension is increased by warnings that the group will suffer loss and betrayal. I think readers will quite quickly develop favourites from the group of friends, I think for me Zeke is fast becoming one of my favourites, and who couldn't feel for Xander? I found Gwen a little annoying at times as she seemed to play with the Keen's feelings too much but this, I guess, is all part of the reverse harem situation.
The story progresses well, at a good pace and draws the reader along with it, with a nice balance of character and plot development to create another well crafted book from this author. Obviously readers need to start with book 1, Emerge, and we don't get all the answers here so I will be waiting anxiously for the next instalment. I recommend this for all readers who like an imaginative escape into fantastical worlds with diverse and likeable characters. More please!!
Ok...well... I can go along with the MC being 15 and lusting after 5 people. I was 15. LOL I get it. But her step-siblings? I can kind of "forgive" that since they only just met. But, for a girl who grew up constantly on the run with her mother and her mother's caregiver...NEEDY!! WHINY!! She's more of a spoiled brat than the rich kid step-siblings. Her constant need for attention drove me nuts! And to think this kid is supposed to be a God (the heart of the God, to boot!) in the story! Her mommy issues are just too much. The other characters are overshadowed and underdeveloped because of the MC's issues. The first book was getting good so I continued to this one, Book 2, but I barely made through this one for the sookiness. (15, just a kid, be darned! She's a God, who's been living on the run most of her life!) I don't know if I can listen to (I listened to the first two on an app) the third and final installment. I need a break... LOL I'm sorry, this MC just left my nerves frustrated.
Having read Emerge when it came out, there was no doubt in my mind I was going to read this book. I hadn’t read anything from this author before the first book in this series, and I was really impressed with it. As the story had been so good, that was reason enough for me to carry onto this book. And I’m so glad I did. This series, in general, I find incredibly entertaining. This isn’t just a fairytale/myth/legend retelling. They’re great themselves, but this is taking a world/realm that is known about sure, but no one has really told a story about it. You hear about the Norse gods and their quests, but this is much more than that. The world building in this book is impressive, as you don’t feel like you’re missing out on any of the realms they visit. It’s a novel idea. Combine that with the characters, who we get to see much more of, and the plot itself, and this is a book that you can’t put down. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for book three.
***I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*** AH-MAZZ-ING! That's exactly what this book is. I wasn't sure what to expect from this book when I started reading as I didn't really read the blurb. The beginning of this book threw me off a bit as there wasn't a whole bunch of explanation. However, you need to stick through it because as the book goes on, you learn more. You will learn even more in book 2. Gwen is very emotional and scared by what is happening since nothing has been explained and her life has just been flipped upside down. She has been brought into this new family and instead of moving all the time, she is expected to stick around now. This book is a reverse harem with a twist. Totally not what I expected but I fell in love with the book and the characters.
I'm loving all of the Norse mythology mixed into this awesome quest. There's bits of all kinds of excitement mixed into this story and it's just perfect. I'm really enjoying Gwen finding herself even in the middle of the crazy going on around her. No teenager expects to have the weight of the world put on their shoulders but these six get stuck with it and make the best of it. I love how you've got most of the typical teen stereotypes and how they each show that they are more than what they seem. I really love that this story has a common trend to be more than what is seen on the outside and how they all support and are there for each other through it all.
Lena Mae Hill has done it again. Ending not quite in a cliffhanger but with enough anticipation for the next book. The groups dynamic is interesting and when each piece comes together it can be explosive. There is so much tension in the chemistry between Gwen and the Keen siblings. Each bringing something special. In this case it’s true what they say that love will keep them together. The question remains how do the other 3 Heimdall pieces fit? As they journey to fix the Bifrost and find their missing pieces they need to learn to open up and be honest with each other wholly or they could become a giants next meal.
The siblings have gone on their quest to find the bridge they need to repair together. They have also found two other pieces of Heimdall and only need to find one more. But which one is the betrayer? This second part of Hosting Gods Trilogy was adventurous, exciting, treacherous, totally unexpected. Lots of twists and turns. Ms Hill does a great job of world building and character development on a deeper level. If you’ve read book one then you definitely need to read this one. Now I’m looking forward to reading book three to see how Ms Hill draws it all to a conclusion.
This book was enthralling! Fin made me want to punch him in his face! Seriously, he got me so mad. I love that Peyton is getting a little bit closer to the group. Every adventure brings them closer and adds something to the group. All of the action is so thrilling! The new characters are so funny and arrogant in a good way and hot. I love the worlds and the characters in them. The fact that the keens and our girl has to adapt to each world and figure out how to survive is such a huge part of the book and give so much life and diversity. Keep up the awesome work Leana Mae Hill. You rock!
So when I first started this book, I was like yes! Second book! But I’ll be honest. It took me almost half of the book to start liking it. I am not sure why, but it took me that long to gain interest. But I wanted to finish, and about halfway thru I felt the addiction. And what a spectacular finish! Loki is his trickster self, the 9 pieces join, and things are looking good. No cliff ending, but I want to know how it ends. I can’t wait for book 3!
Another great book to the series. Gwen is getting closer and closer to her step-siblings while taking on new adventures. They are still looking for the other parts of the group when they are thrust into the world of Gods, Giants, Elves, Dwarfs, etc. Exciting twists and turns. Not to mention the heat and tension within Gwen and the others. Excited to read the next in the series. Steam 8/10 * Sweetness 9/10 * Alternating 1st person POV * RH * Cliffhanger
From this world to the next! The adventure goes from youthful emotions to scary monsters, giants and gods. The family has to learn to trust each other. They have to work with each other to solve the puzzle. There are strong emotional feelings that create strange abnormal natural phenomena. There is a betrayer who will play a key role in the search for the answer. This is a fast paced story with scary monsters, unknown destinations and deep trust and hope. A great book!
I thought that the whole Norse mythology tale would be super interesting, but honestly, I don’t think this is really for me. Gwen’s constant dilemma of having a crush on all her step siblings is not my type of book. It took me forever to read because I couldn’t really get into it.
I fell in love with the Girl Among Wolves series because fairy tales and werewolves are more my thing. But, if you like reverse harem books and mythology, this is more for you.
I fell in love with Gwen and her crew back in book one and book two was even better. The relationships are growing stronger with some and one is being annoyingly difficult. This book had so much more of the Norse mythology and was very entertaining. I can't wait to get my hands on book three in December!
This is book two of this series and it is even better than the first book. Gwen and her step siblings embark on their quest to find the rest of their group and fix the bifrost. The author takes you on a great adventure meeting dragons, elves, dwarves and giants. A very riveting story.
Mind blown! Dragons, Elves, giants, Thor, Sleipnir and the last piece of Heimdall! Did they get back to Bifrost in time to fix it? Is Joaquin actually gone? Will they make it back home? Will time have passed differently and there 3 months be some crazy amount of time? I need to know. I cannot wait to start book 3 and find all my answers!
Wow! After reading the first book, I was surprised by this one. I was expecting a more contemporary type of story. I was so wrong! This was more fantasy adventure. I am usually not of fan of those. This one was surprisingly good. I was all in. I finished this book in one day! I can't wait to start the next book.
Absolutely love this! The mystery of who the remaining members for the groups and they’re amazing when Gwen meets there. Love the team work and communication they share to work through the turmoils being thrown at them. Can’t wait for the next book!
Awesome story in this fabulous series. Didn’t think the second one could be better, but the author managed to do just that. The characters and story line were perfect. Received a free copy and reviewed because I loved it. Don’t miss out once it’s released.
What an interesting adventure the Keens get themselves into this time. It is so unusual to me that I can't stop reading! If you enjoyed Emerge then Ignite is a must! I can't wait for the next installment!
If you thought the first book was unreal, then you're going to love this one. I've already purchased the third. Get up to speed with Gwen and the gang because Ragnarok is coming.
Ignite did just that! The book kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t predict what would happen next and it made everything more exciting. Can’t wait to read Ascend!
The chemistry between Gwen and her 5, dang! I'm falling in love with each of those guys! As always I read through this whole book in one sitting and I know I'll do the same with the final story!
I am not one to give up on a series, so I am not going to stop until the end, but I have to say I am not that impressed with this book. The FMC one min seems whiny, immature and helpless, the next min, they make her strong and controlling. I feel almost like I have bipolar LOL.
I thought the lead female character was 16 in the first book but 1/2 through this book I find out that she and a few of her step siblings turned 16 well away from home. So that means most of them were 15!!! Yuck! Why write a HR book about 15 year old with 9 people in the relationship!
