Hi. I'm D.C. Harrell, fantasy author. My stories blend together my dueling desires to explore and to come home, and adventures at the intersection of science and spirit thrill my soul. I hope they capture yours, too.

Reading has always been my favorite form of entertainment (and education). My favorite authors include J. R. R. Tolkien, Edith Pargeter, Robin McKinley and Patrick Rothfuss. I guess the next best thing to crossing the threshold into another world is creating it.

As a speculative fiction author, my first love is dragons. In addition to the Dragon Fairy Tales (available now), the Araphel science fantasy vampire mystery series is also percolating. Readers call my stories “colorful, imaginative and whimsical.”

I grew up in Europe, Angola and the U. S. I have an undergraduate degree in biology and a Master of Divinity. These many cultures and studies nourish my imagination and so, my books and short stories.

I also write and teach spiritual practices and narrative theology (see dawnduncanharrell.com and tenwaystopray.com). As an editor, I’ve worked on both biblical studies and fiction. The healing arts fascinate me.

I love dogs and cats, but right now I’m owned by Briscoe the Cat. My husband is a foodie, so I eat very well, but if you hand me a piece of Swiss chocolate at the right moment, I’ll be your friend for life. My daughter is a cartoonist, who consumes graphic novels for breakfast.

If you want to geek out with me on the research for my books or get behind-the-scenes glimpses into the weird connections my brain is making between travel, baking, personal empowerment, biology and everything else, you can read those blogs here: dcharrell.com/blog/.

My favorite way to connect with other soul-thrillers is through email. Please sign into the Letter Lair at tinyurl.com/DCHarrellLetterLair for a free story and because I want to hear: What stories are you reading that #thrillyoursoul?
