Danger: I'm A Nurse With A Penis: Funny RN Clinical Diary and Notes

Rate this book
If you’ve come for free nursery rhymes or zombi stories, you’ve come to the wrong place. This is also not another notebook on nurse eroctica, nurse and patient sex, or nurse doctor romance. This is a comedic book on my adventures in nursing. I follow only one go to where the pain is. Through ten stories, I reveal the inner thoughts of male nurses and the unique challenges they face being minorities in a backdrop of vaginas and estrogen. At the end of each story, I share coaching tips. I've been a male registered nurse for several years and want to share my most interesting stories and insights. I've also asked the following questions as guide What do men really need to know about nursing? What can I share to add value to people considering nursing as a career? What would I have wanted to know when I was 18 years old? How could I express what people need to know, not what they want to know? Most “humorous” nursing books out there are injected with weak humor in an attempt to make the nursing profession look good. I, on the other hand, inject nursing with black humor. I don’t pretend there’s anything special about nursing, and I don’t try to sell this profession. I just tell it how it is. Whether you’re a nursing student struggling with touching anuses or a 40 year old thinking that becoming a nurse will make life meaningful, you will find value in this book. Heck, even a nurse practitioner with a business practice will find timeless advice. And yes, physicians and physician assistants will also be able to identify with most of my experiences. Here is my nurse kindle unlimited will be used to share my stories as widely as possible. Even if you are a nurse educator, your students will find useful lessons. I have transmuted my painful nursing experiences into nuggets of joy for your enjoyment.

About the author

Walt Cummings

2 books1 follower
Walt Cummings graduated from NYU with a nursing degree in 2013. He writes for one reason: to entertain. Everything is fair game: patients, their family members, coworkers, etc. The only thing he won't reveal is actual patient names (because he would lose his license). Walt uses his nursing experiences to make people laugh.

What makes Walt different from all other male nurses? He cuts through the bull. Walt tells you what you NEED to hear, not what you WANT to hear.

The author is a bigot, racist, and misogynist. But his voice is real, and he gets straight to the point. I'm giving this book five stars because Walt Cummings made me laugh. He does what he sets out to do: entertain.

good news: the stories are better than the title. i too, am appalled by how nurses like walt are roaming around in hospitals. nevertheless, the stories were funny, and i could almost smell the poop!

Wow, what a roller coaster! Walt simply talks about stuff that no other nurse dares to touch. The ride was emotional, and the lessons hilarious. This is a dark brand of humor i could get used to.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself with this quick read...what a page turner! Walt hits the ground running and doesn't let up on the action. If you want a real glimpse into the inner life of a male nurse, read this book. You'll be surprised, but more importantly, you'll be entertained.

Finally, a book that just tells it like it is! I appreciate how Walt speaks plainly about the humanity behind nursing. There's no posturing, no pretending. You'll find true stories and an outrageous sense of humor. I hope see Walt when I get struck with the Coronavirus!

I really enjoyed myself while I read this title. Never in my life did I think I would find myself reading a book about male nurses but hey. The story is portrayed well and doesn’t drag on like some other biopics tend to do. The length of the book is perfect and the humor is consistent throughout. 4/5

i got what i paid for: a quick and funny read about the nursing profession. Obviously, the stories were stretched for shock value, but I still had a good time.

This is a refreshing look into the perspective of a male nurse. Don't be scared..you will be confronted with harsh truths about the nursing/medical fields. It ain't all sunshines and rainbows folks!

Bold, unconventional, and outright immoral..I loved it! Walt throws weak humor out the window and just tells it how it is...a nurse with balls, so to speak.

The author doesn't make you feel sorry for nurses...he makes you feel sorry for the patients! I appreciate his honesty in writing the book.

haven't laughed this hard in a long time...5 stars.
I found the harsh comments to be a bit extreme...the author claims the stories are embellished, for goodness sake.

My jaw dropped open several times with disbelief. Walt was so extreme with his stories and opinions...I loved it. How many nurses will actually tell it like it is? I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know what men in nursing really think, behind all the smiles and pleasantries.

This is a great and entertaining quick read. It’s a good thing Walt is such a great writer, nursing must have been plan C or D? I found myself wanting more stories of failure especially after chapter 6. You really feel like you’re inside the mind of the author, Walt, during those stories of failure. Finding your passion and way in life is stressful! Reading about these adventures in nursing left me hoping he becomes a Dr.

Not for the faint of heart. This book is most definitely controversial and interesting to read. You will be shocked and be confronted with uncomfortable truths. But isn't that what life is about. Read this book if you want to get out of your comfort zone and learn what nursing is actually like from the perspective of this man.

I wasn't too sure what to expect. Was the title click bait? But after reading the book, I have to say: I was thoroughly entertained. The author went to places that others just don't go to. On moral grounds, Walt would get 0 stars. But on entertainment grounds, Walt would get more than five stars.

Terrifying. In one part of the book (not going to go back and look up the page) this person claims not to have anything psychologically wrong with them. 100% disagree on that claim. He seems to think rules don't apply to him. The author of this book is deranged and should not be allowed to care for others. I think he said he wanted to actually be a writer. He is a shit writer but whatever keeps him away from others is fine by me.

Also damn sure the 5 star ratings with reviews are also written by him. Especially the 'Sonal d' one as he says he is also known by that name on his blog. He gives away a little too much info about himself. Someone who is more dedicated / is more appalled by the content of this book than I was, could with some digging find out his real name and considering his managed to find nursing work (interventional radiology - not at the bedside at least) after already being fired 3 different times in 5 years, I'd be a little paranoid if I was him.

That might have sounded like a threat, but really its not. Its way too much work for me to do about someone I'd rather forget about.

A sad , discussing story

This book is juvenile. The author is crude, sexist and disgusting. I got the book thinking I would read about a high functioning male muse . Instead the book was full of a nurse who excelled at getting away with bad behavior and laughing at his peers while insulting them . He seemed to delight yin his superior attitude and I hope to God that he gets fired for a final time and goes into some other field. I finished the book anyway, wondering why... but had thought it would get better. If I could, I would give it zero stars.
Pass on this book- there are so many other nurse and doctor stories worthy of reading.

Misogynistic Train Wreck

How this person was ever allowed near patients is beyond me. The only positive thing I can say is that the grammar wasn't horrible. Fortunately the book was free. I will watch for this author in the future, if only to avoid him.

I hope this man has left nursing. He seems to think he can just do anything he wants, and not follow the rules. He acts like a spoiled child. I don't know where he gets off thinking he can care for patients and not follow the rules. Also, I was very offended by his language. Certainly he could have gotten his point across without using so much foul language. He mentioned that he was an American Indian, and acted like this gave him permission to do what he wanted, and not follow the rules. I do not recommend wasting your time on this book.

A struggle....

I am not one for giving low reviews. I think I am being kind by giving it a two. I really hope this book is actually satire because if this guy really did these things as a nurse, I am appalled. If you are looking for crude, condescending, crappy attitudes and character assassinating stories, this is the book for you. Ugh!

I'm all about humour, and as a Healthcare provider myself, I've heard it all. This guy, however, never should have gone into nursing, and deserved his firings 100%. I feel sorry for his patients and their families. He's immature, misogynistic, racist (refers to Mexicans as "beaners"), and generally self-absorbed. This book was an embarrassment to anyone in the Healthcare field.

Raw stories from the field

Interesting read about nursing. But a bit too vulgar for my liking. Also there were opportunities to go deeper but the author didn’t. Perhaps I’m too hard. But I just recently read “this is going to hurt”, and that was a well edited piece.

Appalling

This young man was crude and self-centered in treating his patients and described them in an immature, disrespectful manner. I am an RN and by no means a prude but this was a frightening view of nurses. Pray he never takes care of you. Disgusting read.

Not about nursing.

Little said about nursing and a lot about personal bitching and unprofessional behavior. Good writer but the content was lacking.
