About the author

The Japanese actor, director and teacher, Yoshi Oida, has created his own acting style, after years of performance with the theatre icon Peter Brook. As part of Brook`s International Theatre Group, Yoshi Oida performed on various stages all over the world. Several years ago he began directing plays himself using a unique combination of Eastern and Western approaches to theatre.

“When actors say ‘I was completely lost in the character’ or ‘I don’t have any memory of what I was doing’, this is not good acting. Instead, we should try to watch the character and what is happening, instead of being unaware. But if you watch too much, your body disengages and nothing happens.”

Este libro forma parte de mi formación como comunicador, cumple lo que esperaba del mismo: tips para las artes escénicas. Me gusto mucho la redacción y cada tema trae una perla que aplicar estando en el escenario. Me ha dejado realmente "picada" para continuar con mi investigación.

Este libro es para enseñarte para aclararte que hace un actor para comunicar. Por tal es un libro que te enseña un conocimiento que solo los actores manejan. No cuenta anécdotas como tal y tampoco son cuentos pero igual lo disfrute como escuchar al mismo Yoshi con esa visión de la cultura oriental. Es un libro para leerse despacito, pensar y continuar.

Yoshi Oida is an inspirational teaching artist bridging many gaps. He bridges the gap between traditional eastern theatre forms with modern western theatre. He bridges the gap between studying the art of acting and implementing it in performance, forgetting concern about technique. He also bridges the gap between "doing art" and being alive as a human being.

Some of this book is a restatement of his previous and superior work, The Invisible Actor. There is, however, valuable supplemental material and insight here, and once again his collaborator Lorna Marshall contributes background information and informative commentary on Oida's writing, which reads almost as a transcript of him thinking out loud.

Birçok tiyatro akımı vardır. Gerçekçi, romantik, politik, absürd vb.. Hepsinde ortak olan tek şeyse oyunculuk. Tiyatro ile uğraşanlar bilir ki, bir karakteri ortaya çıkarmak, duyguları ve durumları oyunun çerçevesinde başarıyla verebilmek ve en önemlisi bunu yapmacık olmadan yapabilmek bir tiyatro emekçisi için zor ama bir o kadar da keyifli bir süreçtir. Oyunculuk üzerine de yazılmış, çalışılmış ve dünya üzerinde geçerlilik kazanmış kuramlar vardır. Mesela Stanislavski’nin gerçekçi oyunculuk yöntemi ya da Meyerhold’un stilize oyunculuğu... Oyuncular için önemli püf noktaları verirler, belli bir metodları vardır. Ve işe yarar da... Ama Yoshi Oida Oyuncunun Oyunları kitabında diğer kitapların öğretmediği bir şey öğretti bana. İçindeki enerjiyi doğal bir şekilde oyunculuğuna aktarabilme yeteneği her oyuncu için aynı yöntemlerden geçmez. Her oyuncu kendi yöntemini keşfetmelidir. Bunun için uygun ortam sağlanmalıdır. Prova süreci oyunun bir haritasını çıkarmaktır. Aslolan değişimdir, zamanlamadır. Seyirci ile oyuncu arasındaki ilişkidir. Satırları okuduktan sonra biraz düşünüp hak verdim Yoshi’ye. Çünkü her insanın deneyimi vardır, düşünce sistemi, hayat görüşü, zevkleri vardır ve birbirinden farklıdır. Oyuncunun iç dünyasında ve dış çevresinde yakaladığı özgürlükle karakteri kendi yöntemleriyle doğurmalıdır. Her gösteri de değişebilmelidir. Seyirciyi hissedip doğru zamanlamaları yakalamalıdır. Bunu yaparken tabii ki bir dış göz tarafından uyarılmalı ve yardım almalıdır. Bunun yanında kitap; Uzak Doğu felsefesine merakımı da kat kat artırdı. Hatta sözlerimi kitabın arkasındaki yazıyla bitirmek isterim. “Doğu’da öğretmenler asla ders vermez. En azından bizim anladığımız anlamda. Gerçek bir öğretmen asla açıklama yapmaz ya da reçeteler sunmaz. Doğulu öğretmen sonsuz sabır ve sarsılmaz azimle neler başarılabileceğinin yaşayan örneğidir.”
