Faced with the inevitable realization that I would be having open heart surgery in July last year, I decided to channel my anxiety into writing Imprint. I've been a hardcore fan of the paranormal romance genre for a couple of years now... Consuming books by Laurann Dohner became my favorite pastime which also led me to other amazing authors. In February 2018 I was told about the surgery and after many anxiety episodes and panic attacks I found a way to soothe the madness by writing my own book and doing lots of yoga. Now that I am safely on the other side and am finishing up my recovery I'm ready to start the next one! Hope you enjoy... HH

I was given a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. I gave this book a 4 star rating out of 5. I really liked the concept of this book, I’ve read many similar too it, so when I saw this I knew I had to read it! While it was good, there were a few things that I was let down on, but first a short synopsis of the book.

Dorothy is a single woman, who works at a library, when one day a handsome man walks in. They lock eyes, she is so captivated by how gorgeous he is she is speechless. Later that same night as she is leaving the library she gets attacked by something and is unconscious. She wakes up at the house of the gorgeous guy from the library, whose name is Dylan. There is a connection between them that ignites a very steamy relationship, however, there is a big secret that Dylan is keeping one that could make or break their relationship.

Okay, starting off with the things I did not particular like. The biggest thing was, it was too short. I had hoped that it would have broken at least 100 pages, but it did not. Things could have been explained more, I would have loved to know the full extent of Dorothy’s background, she was in foster care, she has a phobia of dogs, and she works at a library... not much to connect with. Same thing with Dylan and his family, and the community, I wanted to know more about them and be able to connect better. Also, explaining what they are was good, however, could have been elaborated on a bit more. And the ending was a bit rushed.

The writing was okay, their were some spelling mistakes but that does not really bother me too much. Also, some phrasing or words in the book had me cringing, example, pussy... blah hate that word.

Okay now on to what I liked. I really loved the storyline, it is a guilty pleasure and a weakness. It lived up to being a great “can’t put it down” book, I finished it in less than 2 hours. Dorothy and Dylan were likable characters, although I can not support Dorothy fulling since she had a dog phobia... Dogs are the best!! ;) The book could have gotten a higher rating if what I did not like about the book was fixed. Overall, it was a good read especially if you are in a reading slump and you need a refresher book.

Warning: Dangerous Curves Ahead!

Dottie leads a quiet life as a librarian, but she craves passion. In the middle of another ordinary evening, passion and danger finds her in the form of Dylan. From their first conversation, their desire for each other is obvious, but he has secrets that could cost Dottie her life. A simple hook up with her is far less than what Dylan wants, but breaking through her shell and earning her trust soon becomes his mission.
Imprint will definitely leave you wanting more, long after you've read the last page. There are so many twist, turns, and curves to this story and it becomes more than a simple romantic story of two people falling in love. There's a thriller aspect to this book that I believe will satisfy the reader who wants more than romance.
Oh my! Dylan is a hot hero, with a good heart and enough heat to ignite Dottie and the pages on your e-reader. His determination to win her over, despite the danger, will warm your heart.
I deeply enjoyed Imprint and recommend it with a nice cup of hot tea on a rainy day. Ms. Hawley truly knows how to weave a good story and I'm excited to read whatever she has coming in the future!

Book received from author

I really tried to get into this book. I didn't make it too far in--about 20 pages or so and that was because I was pushing. I couldn't get past the writing; I didn't like it. Everything was being explained to us when it didn't need to be. Inner thoughts were overly delivered to the point it was unrealistic.
