Her Dark Protectors #3

Hidden by Night

Rate this book
My name is Ace Bisset, and after a lifetime of proving magic doesn’t exist, I’m learning how to be a witch.

If you’d told me a few months ago that I’d be burning sage and staking vampires, I would have laughed in your face. And yet here I am, casting spells and brewing potions while I relentlessly search for a way to lift the curse that binds my four lovers to the night.

But just when I think I’m getting a handle on my powers, ghosts from my past surface…literally. These spirits bring danger to everyone I hold dear while hurting innocent bystanders in the process — which is something I can't allow, no matter the cost.

My dark protectors will do anything to keep me safe, but as far as this new threat is concerned, I’m on my own. For even the strongest warrior can’t fight an enemy they can’t see, and if I don’t find a way to defeat these spirits, we might end up trapped in the darkness…forever…

JADA STORM is the paranormal and fantasy romance pen name of NYT bestseller Jasmine Walt. She's obsessed with books, chocolate, and sharp objects. Somehow, those three things melded together in her head and transformed into a desire to write, usually fantastical stuff with a healthy dose of action and romance. Her characters are a little (okay, a lot) on the snarky side, and they swear, but they mean well. Even the villains sometimes. Note: I received an advanced review copy in exchange for my honest review.

This is the 3rd book, so let it be known it's best if you've read the previous two book as without having done that, not everything will make sense and honestly? The book won't be as good.
Having said that...
The book was really good. I enjoyed it more, probably cause we get to dive in deeper into well everything. Relationships, history/past, abilities..everything.
Now usually that's expected from a book in a series, but it was well accomplished in this book. The characters stayed very true to themselves but you can see the tiny bits of evolving, adapting to all that's happened. Avoiding spoilers, I will say the book is interesting and interesting stuff happens. It's a good book.
IF you read the first two, definitely read this one. If you have read from Jasmine Walt before, this series is definitely worth picking up.

I will also say that, I'm already waiting for book 4, so if THAT isn't a statement to how good the series is, I don't know what would be.

Hidden by Night: a Reverse Harem Urban Fantasy (Her Dark Protectors Book 3) Kindle Edition
by Jada Storm  (Author), Emma Stark  (Author)
I borrowed this book via the Kindle Unlimited program and am choosing to leave a fair and honest review.
“Being a crime-fighting witch who also upholds the law is a lot harder to do than to TV shows make it seem.”

Ace's life is only getting more complicated as she recovers from her recent brush with a witch who wanted her dead. Somehow, she manages to open a rift into the Other Side when she tries to reach her mother. Doing that releases a vengeful spirit. And to make things worse, he captain has forced her to take some of the vacation she has been accruing for 2 years!

Full of sexy moments between the twins, touching moments with Jacques and a few soft moments with Hasan, Ms Storm and Ms Stark's story also has twists and turns and a party and an unfortunate trip to Amish country.

Tightly written with moments that show us the characters evolving. We Ace finally letting her hair down out of her messy bun and letting loose at party as well as her learning to let go of control.

I am truly enjoying this series far more than I thought I would. The concept seemed to be an average RH/Why choose romance. Instead, I found four extraordinary knights, one amazing heroine with a complicated past and wonderful side characters.

I do miss the police procedural bits and some of the plot is telegraphed, but all in all a great part 3 and it left me hungry for book 4.

4 stars out of 5

A continuation of a series, that MUST be read in order.
First, I'll say the characters are very well fleshed out. Example: We pick up from book 2 right after Ace does something selfish and reckless, knowing it could put others in harm. This part was frustrating to me. HOWEVER, that's a sign of great writing because the character is perfectly-imperfect. She's not perfect. Ace is head-strong and wants answers no matter what it takes.
Second, the dialogue is witty, with lol parts, and just seems very real. I feel like I'm in the room witnessing a real conversation. The part where Ace has to explain her "open" relationship and how the other woman responds is hilarious. Also, I really enjoy Ace and Jared's relationship. They have an almost big sister- little brother vibe.
Heat level: woowee. That first scene with Jaques... Where's my fan? 🔥🔥👌
One scene with MFM.

Now the reason for 4 stars. The story started off with a bang. It was chilling. Emotional. A sense of danger. And then it became slightly monotonous, and the gothic/chilling factor died down. I was disappointed to see this because the raw emotion that was described in the first half of the book was exceptional. And then around 50% the urgency just... fizzled out. The thrilling mystery became secondary to some other lighter moments. But then the last 25% was exciting again because the mystery was gaining momentum and we weren't going in circles.

It really is a great series and I do love the characters. There is still a big mystery to solve and I look forward to the next book!

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from the author*

It's about a 3.5 for me. I liked it. It started right where we left off in the last installment and set an eerily touching vibe that continued with the rest of the chapters. This installment focused more on the consequences of dealing with magic you don't understand and tying up some loose ends from the second installment. Ace is forced to take vacation, which means she finally gets some down time. But what does a workaholic do when they have time to kill?

The ghost for this book was interesting. i was more for Jared, the kid who's always trying to expose her and her creepy house. I really liked that she took him a bit under her wing. He had promise and it was nice to see him interact with her. I had my moments of liking where things were going, but i also had my share of disagreements with what Ace did or what she decided to show of herself. Overall it's a recommend read if you love paranormal stories that are a mix of some romance and action. I do hope to see more meat of Ace's story as a newly self-discovered witch. She has her own moments of growing and I really like her gargoyle guys.

Great book, and amazing continuation of the series. If you have already read the first two books, you should definitely not hesitate to pick up this one. If you haven't, then I recommend starting them now. I really like this series and would definitely recommend it to people who never tried out this author's books as well as to people who are fans of this genre or already have some experience with the author's previous books.
The story itself is very exciting, deeply pulling the reader in, delicately balancing the revealed details to not spoil any surprising moments and maximize the impact of big revelations, but at the same time keeping the story fluent, easy to read and understand, and even easier to follow. I fell in love with the characters already in the first book, and now I enjoy watching them grow, getting accustomed to situations totally new for them, and observe the subtle changes in their attitude and personalities as they adjust to strange happenings around them. I do not want to spoil the reading experience to anyone, so I would just repeat myself - go ahead and grab the book. You will see for yourself it's worth your time.

Wow

I have such mixed feelings about this book. I read all the Sunaya books written by Jasmine Walt and couldn't wait for each book to be published. Having said that, I personally don't care for reverse harem books so didn't think about reading this series. I was given the chance to read this book for an honest review and accepted because this is a terrific author and I have no problem being honest. While still not fond of reverse harem books, I can only say "wow". What a story. Now I have to go back and purchase the first two books I missed to catch up. I also purchased this book. It was that good. The characters are complex and easily relatable. If you enjoy adventure, complexity, and excitement in your books, you will enjoy this book. If you like reverse harem books, you will love this book. If you don't care for reverse harem books, take a chance. It's well worth it. Enjoy. Happy reading.

Enjoyed it completely

So I found this series by accident through Facebook. Received the first book free and just had to keep reading. So each book has a hook that makes you want to keep reading til the end. I’m just thankful it ended happily. Ace Lina is a police officer that lives for her job. When she was a child she lost her parents tragically. Her whole life she feared of getting close to someone and losing them so work was it. She inherits a large historical house from an aunt she has never met. And that is when her life changes forever. Magic, gargoyles, vampires, and anything else paranormal you can think of is all in here. Definitely recommend it. It’s a great series. The journey made me laugh and cry. Characters are really full of personalities that make you reach out and want to hug them. Plenty of sexy time too. Read and enjoy!

Cursed by Night, Book 1: When Detective Acelina Bissett, better known as Ace, inherits a big old house from an aunt she'd never heard of, she wasn't expecting to inherit four big old gargoyles that come to life at night along with it. Jacques, Hasan, Thomas and Gilbert are just as surprised to be woken up as she is to find them shirtless in her front yard just after sunset. There are a lot more surprising things in this world that she wasn't expecting as well. Time to reevaluate herself and everything she thought she ever knew. Who better to help than her new found gargoyles, who were Templar Knights before being cursed about a thousand years ago?
So continues the story of Ace and Her Dark Protectors. Each book finds them facing a new enemy, a new mystery for this feisty detective to solve. Will it be human or paranormal? Will it end with her getting the bad guy?
Great writing, wonderful characters and a very imaginative story line. Read and enjoy!

I have loved all of these books so far and love them. They must be read in order so if this is a new book for you then go back to the beginning of the series first. The first half of this book was fantastic but I felt it fizzled out a bit in the end and also the sex scenes become a little Monotonous with very little deviation its almost the same old, same old each time. Perhaps I am being overcritical but for a RH romance I fee that the author needs to be able to be very creative when it isn't a slow burn and it is full on from the beginning otherwise it starts to get as this did in the end a little repetitive. Also the tension/urgency doesn't seem to be as tense in the latter stages of this book. that said the storey was enjoyable and well worth a read.

This series never fails to be full of action, steam, and mystery. Ace seems to finally and fully accept who and what she is, though she still has a lot of questions and is struggling to make her life as a witch and her life as a detective mesh. In this installment Ace is more focused on learning magic and dealing with the resurfacing of her pain at the loss of her parents, particularly her mom. Despite this, and all her near death experiences, she seems to be much happier and is starting to come out of her shell more and interact and socialize with people. Her relationships with her gargoyles are strong and loving, and at this point I want to say unbreakable. Can't wait to see what trouble they get into next.

Excitement galore!

This third installment of Ace and her gargoyle protectors has been a wild ride. A lot of stuff happens and gets resolved quickly with the help of her men and her friend Gemma who was basically kidnapped by her bat crazy aunt and uncle. Ace is able to rescue her and gets her closest thing to a friend back in one piece. Then there is the vengeful ghost in the pink dress who came through a rift that Ace accidentally opened trying to contact her dead mother. So much going on and more to come. Looking forward to book four! It's cold case time! Maybe Ace will finally get the answers she needs on who murdered her parents and seems like many others who all died the same way. Next book will tell!

Enjoyable Reading

I really enjoyed this book. I would have given this book a 5 rating as I did Books 1 and 2 in the series, if I hadn't experienced irritation a few times during the reading. Certain happenings were not in sync. At one part the air conditioning in the house is mentioned as being turned on, then found out later that there was no air conditioning in the house. At one point Ace and Jared exchanged cell phone numbers while Jared was at her house, then later on she messaged him her phone number on Facebook. Also, Ace missed a text from Jared before he disappeared, and that text was never mentioned again...even when Jared's parents were concerned about his disappearance and wanted to know if she knew where he was.

Another exciting chapter in the life of Ace and her men. This one in my opinion is the best one of the three. We are really starting to get into her story , discovering and enjoying the journey right along with her, and the action is tightly packed into this third installment. Ace is growing as a witch and a woman, entwined with her sexy men and exploring their relationships, getting comfortable with herself and them, as a group and more separately. I am really excited to discover where their story is headed and how it all ends. Well done ladies, another thrilling, pleasure fueled rollercoaster of a ride that deserves five flaming stars!

In this third instalment of the series Ace and her guys develop further into their personalities and skills as she gets used to what she can do and the supernatural world around her. We also learnt more about the history behind them all as well as hints of what might happen in the next book in the series. Sometimes a third book in a series can be a bit tired as the main events might have already happened but in this book there was still plenty happening that moved the story on while staying true to the characters we already know and love. I really enjoyed that it was all about friendship, love and relationships and not just sex that many RH stories seem to focus on. Very enjoyable story.

Oh wow, what a great third book in the series. Hidden by Night picks right back up where book number two, Kissed by Night finished. I love the way that Ace's relationship with not only the guys is developing but also with Gemma and perhaps Jared too. I really liked Gemma in the second book, and even though she messed up I thought she was a friend that Ace needed. We're slowly starting to learn a bit more about Ace's past, but most importantly we're discovering more about her families. This book really was a fun and exciting read for me and I'm looking forward to reading the next one. Five stars from me.

I really enjoyed this book. If I ever needed a detective, I would choose Ace. I love her determination, intelligence, curiosity, cunning, protectiveness, and her laser focus on her cases. I couldn't put this book down and read it straight through! Will she find a way to apply her magic skills to solve her supernatural case? I love how she relates to her protective gargoyles and how they are willing to help, any way they can. This book is action-packed with danger, magic, ghosts, witches, gargoyles, police work, romance, suspense, friendship, and plot twists. I can't wait for the next book to come out!

Brilliant PNR, this book picks up where book 2 left off. The plot in this series is complicated and twisted, just when you think our heroes are making progress it all goes to hell in a handbasket. I doesn't help matters that Ace is still trying to work through her powers and struggles at times to make any use of her magic. As with all of the books in this series the characters are 3 dimentional and I found them all easy to relate to. There is enough romance and sexy stuff going on without taking away from the under lying plot.

I recommend that these books be read in order to fully appreciate the plot and characters.

Never a dull moment!

These ladies are authors worthy of clicking “Follow”.
I loved this book, it is intense and dramatic and so filled with action of many kinds. But, most importantly the main character Ace is so believable. She never acts like she is “too cool”. I was so impressed with the way she was written, she just dealt with the news that she had a magical heritage and then proceeds to learn as much as possible and practiced everything she can while trying to be safe as well.
The guys are still the wonderful characters they started as and I was more impressed with the ability to show forgiveness and understanding portrayed in this book.

Here we are at the third book, and the series is still going strong. One thing I like to see in a series at this point is character growth, progression of the plot, and new information that doesn’t seem tacked on. The authors deliver these things very well. I was pleasantly surprised at the addition of a sort-of character, but I don’t want to give too much away. And, I liked how we went back to another character who I really liked. As a side note, I hate how some RHs become all about the men, and the female MC doesn’t have any women friends, like they hate women. That bothers me, but I am glad to see that might not be the case here. Suffice it to say, if you liked the first two books, you will really enjoy this latest, and the cliffhanger leaves you wanting more. Highly recommend! I received a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

This book started off slow but by the end I was loving it just as much as the first two books in the series. The mystery was enjoyable and I loved that Ace was willing to take Jared under her wing. The relationship between Ace and her men also grew to deeper states during the book as well. Reverse Harem isn't always my favorite but this series is the best Reverse Harem I have read. I like that the mystery and sex are interweaved and so balanced. I am really enjoying this series and can't wait for the next!

I really enjoyed this book, however, some of the scenes in it were a bit too spooky for me. I don't really like reading about ghosts and hauntings and spirits getting up to mischief (i guess i'm hypersensitive). I kept reading though as the rest of the story line was great. I loved how the characters evolved and i loved finding out more back story. I love how the book progressed and i love how Ace's harem is evolving. The book was written very well. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series although i hope there is less 'spooky' themes. I recommend this book.

Ace summoned her dead mother, who she had not seen in years.. Hugging her, Ace recognized the small patch of freckles on her mom's neck. Ace began to remember things from the night her parents were murdered, Hasan comes into the library and her mother disappears. A little later, Thomas comes in to report that a rift, an opening between worlds, is in the back yard. Ace discovers a fiendish spirit escaped through the rift. What is the spirit up to? What does Ace do about the spirit? A must read to answer these questions.

I received Hidden By Night, book 3 of the Her Dark Protectors series, from the author/publisher (via BookFunnel). The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. I love this series and the characters--gargoyles rock (pun intended). This book was fast-paced with non stop action and a fun (and often flirty) storyline. Another great addition to the Her Dark Protectors series. The only thing I would have enjoyed more, was more focus on a few of the sub-plots, like the kid who was trying to expose the supernatural elements of the story.

Gargoyles and a detective

Absolutely amazing! I love this series. Gargoyles and a detective. Ace opens a portal and ghosts get through, her mom included. I loved how Ace and the guys relationships advance and they also try to be “normal” as much as four gargoyles can be using magic to hide their wings. I love stories with detectives and crime scenes. This author did a great job blending both paranormal and realistic cop procedures. Can’t wait for the book!!!

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest
The characters + storytelling were very captivating
This is the 3rd book in the series
Ace is never believed magic exist.
Now that she found out she is a witch, she has to learn how to use her newfound powers.
Let's not forget the 4 hotties living with her.
It has all the ingredients that you need for an awesome book!

A good story in what is shaping up to be a fantastic series. I like finding out about all the characters, and getting to know them better. The dynamic between the main characters is decent. My only criticism is that I felt that some of the sex scenes were added only for the sake of it — though, not all! — I don’t know. What I like the most about this series is the detective/police procedural seamlessly mixed in with the supernatural.
