I want to thank J.M. Robson for the copy of her book, but as you know, this never interfers with my review or score.

What I love the most about J.M. Robson is that she never gives a long plot about the book, she only offers the basics and I think that is enough. You don't know what to expect nor what are the plot twists. Here are my thoughts:

-Plot/Development: I always offer a plot made by me in order to introduce everyone into the reading, but this time I would like to keep it short, as the author does. The story is about Billy Donaldson, who is twenty years, but his life is full of negative moments: victim of bullying, a dysfunctional family, and working seems to be a nightmare. One day, Billy discovers that walking around different places in Scotland is a nice activity to escape from the reality, but that will allow him to take revenge against the people who have abused and betrayed him.

Honestly, the development is a turn page. The beginning seemed a little slow and I didn’t understand well what I was going to read, but as soon as I arrived to the third chapter, the story took another vibe and I just couldn’t stop reading. The thing is that in every chapter, the author leaves you with a doubt and expectations, but as soon as you read the next chapter, something else happens and now you need to figure it out what will be the next step. I truly believe that J.M. Robson knows what she is writing, due to the fact that she shows you something, but it turns to be something else, which is why you need to play the detective and being inside Billy to see what is going to happen.

-Characters: This is the point that I outstand the most. Different from her previous work, Three Little Words, the characters in this new one have a growth, I think she improved in how to make feel the audience hate, love, empathy and so on. I enjoyed Billy, not because it was my favorite character, but for how this person starts and then ends. I would like to remark the characters of Sarah and Hannah, two female characters who I thought I knew who they were, but I failed. These two are my favorites, because they have things that you may not want to discover.

-Ending: Of course without spoilers. The ending is so good. That’s all I need to say and as a horror, mystery, crime and related genres fan, I admit I never saw that coming.

-Writing: I like the improvement of J.M.Robson. She was good, but now I think she is one of the authors who deserves better. She can make you feel sad, angry, happy and having the strange sensation of whom you should support. As well, she is descriptive and not over descriptive, which is something I appreciate, since sometimes less is better. This book has mature themes and make sure you are not sensible.

-Genre: Horror, Crime, and mystery. Three in one. One of the best reads you may have and the perfect recommendation for beginners and old readers.

J M Robson is one of those authors that really excel in what they write. They ease the reader into a false sense of security before switching gears and taking you on a dark path. This is a fundamental talent that Robson has. I have read her first novel ‘Three Little Words’ and this still rates as one of my favourites for the craftsmanship that she has as she lends you by the hand.

I am the Walker is a novel that has an ending that totally caught me unaware and kept me on my toes. I read the book twice for the climax and I still didn’t see it coming. This is the true art of a master at work.

Billy is basically a billy no mates who takes grief, bullying and overall nastiness of his life day to day. Billy is unloved and receives no respect from anyone. He finally comes to his tether and he decides to take control of his life. This is where the story takes an interesting turn.

The story is told in the first person and although I sometimes roll my eyes at the first person because this opens itself into its own mind traps, Robson makes this work to her advantage and totally engages the reader into Billy’s world. The reader hears, sees and smells the environment which is a real treat. This is another winner from an exciting author that is making her mark into the fiction world and she is taking no prisoners.

This is a dark twisted story that takes the reader on a journey of self discovery and gripping you until the final climax which will take you by surprise. It works on so many cylinders that this is a true marksmanship of a novel. Exciting, gripping, dark, comedic and thought provoking dark fiction at its best. A must read for people looking for a great summer read that works in all seasons.

I read the last few pages of this book about 3 times to get a grip on what exactly was happening, trying to reason with myself that no, i was not hallucinating and that magnanimous twist just happened. Why didn't anyone warn me? There were no fancy words in the book yet still the sentences sounded freakishly psychotic.

The plot revolves around Billy, a guy who's abusive parents have turned him into a psychopath.  He never received love from his home, which made him bottle up his rage for the world around him.

There are a few books that keep you on the edge of your chair, anticipating what's going to happen next, making you turn page after page. 'I Am The Walker' is one of those books.

J M Robson is a fantastic writer, who knows how to potray the thoughts and feelings of her characters effectively to her readers and I would recommend this book to anyone who loves psychological thrillers, or are a fan of mystery and suspense, or simply love reading.

J.M. Robson becomes one of my favorite indie authors after I finished reading her first work, "Three Little Words."

In her new, dark thrilling novel, "I Am The Walker," Robson takes her readers to the mind of a person who suffered from a wretched life and how it made a person do terrible ramifications. This novel will make you question whether the reasons for an action justify the deeds.

Being told from a first-person perspective, readers can easily experience Billy's thoughts and emotions. Billy's life wasn't a bed of roses. He didn't have friends, and his parents rejected him. When he reached the point when he couldn't take all these horrible things anymore, that's when things got really messy. I like how the plot seems not so complicated; that you just need to go with the flow of the story without having many thoughts. Then all of the sudden, there is the unforeseen twist that each detail all makes sense. The author really knows how to make such a mind-blowing plot twist.

J.M. Robson's writing style is simple, yet entrancing. Her books always start strongly and will keep you very excited and interested because you want to know what happens next. She describes scenes and actions vividly and directly. Also, she can give an authentic voice to the character.

Given the circumstances, anyone can be evil. This book allows as to somehow understand what drives a person does things that are profoundly socially unacceptable. However, it also helps us realize that it is still our choice if we will give in to our nature to be evil.

Overall, I Am The Walker is a dark psychological thriller that readers will find intriguing. I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of mystery and suspense.

I gave this book 5/5 stars!

I am currently re-reading this book as I enjoyed it so much the first time round. It is honestly years since I sat down and got so enthralled with a character that I could not put the book down. Even though the main character has the personality of a psychotic killer, Jane's writing skills and humour made me root for him from beginning to end. And what an end! I did not see that coming, I was gobsmacked. I am giving my sister a copy of this book for Christmas as I now she will be equally enthralled. Well done Jane, fantastic writing , cant wait to see what you have up your sleeve next

I Am the Walker

“I received this book as an ARC and I’m giving an honest review.”

In the faraway lands of Scotland, there lived a person named Billy. Abused and tortured at every possible moment by his family and peers, he resorts to spending some alone time walking through the countryside. When one fine day, he has had enough of being pushed around, he changes his simpleton ways into something way more sinister. I Am a Walker is the story about how a serial killer was born in the pristine lands of Scotland.

I am the Walker is a compelling Psychological Thriller novel outlining the life of a 20-year-old serial killer residing in Scotland. It is a very well threaded thriller which make it very difficult to put it down. Honest to god, I finished reading the novel in mere two hours. This is the first novel I've read which is set in Scotland and boy am I impressed!

Starting with the cover of the book, its dark and mysterious and justifies the theme of the book down to the point. The title is unique and practically tailor made for the book. It is a quick read which just touches the mark of 200 pages.

The book started off with a steady pace, luring the readers in and then, all of the sudden, it switches its pace to turbo mode. Something that kept me on the edge the entire time I was reading this novel. The plot was riveting and filled with suspense. The writing style of the author was easy to comprehend and enthralling enough to keep the reader hooked. The story line gets a definite A plus from my side. The story is so well woven and the unforeseen plot twist at the end of the book made it a complete thriller package. There was no instance in the book where I found the story line lagging or stretching.

Coming to the characters, I think I need to admit that every single character was descriptively penned. Each character had their flaws and that is what made them real. There were just a handful of characters but the story is one which will remain with me for a very long time. There were instances where I felt chills run down my spine and that is an indication that the book was a very good thriller.

Long story short, I loved the book. Period.

Been given this book as a gift from fellow bookish friends. Simple yet complicated is maybe our first impression after finished this book.

It starts with the normal and underrated characters with broken family with no love between the parents. Characters named Billy who lives his life under comparison with his friends really seems like a victim of bullying thriving for attention. As the emotion grows, so does the impulse act as the form of revenge and attention. It keeps growing until we're given the explanation at the end of the book.

It is fascinating reading a usual sentences but carry a deep meaning behind it. So much for a 196 pages book can carry. Really admired the writing styles and the sequence to serve the plate with the right amount of attention. Good story line with a bit of twist that makes you raise your eyebrows. Hoping for something else and deeper conflict though, feels like it can be so much more. Not yet ready to put it down and the story ends. Still, we thinks it's a must-read book.

DISCLAIMER: I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my review in any way.

It’s hard to explain the depths of this story. The injustice, tragedies, hatred, greed, and ugliness are what makes Billy’s life unfair. As I began reading this, I was torn in which the story was presented. On what kind of relationship he has with his family. At first, it seemed short and abrupt. Normally this would annoy me but after the first couple of chapters, I was quickly understood him, the style it is written it makes so much more sense.

This poor guy has lived a life of hell. He just only want to be loved and live a normal life but it turns out that the people who are close to him are the one who destroyed him.

I cannot express enough how much I enjoyed this. A great psychological/ emotional thriller and mystery. The emotional battles Billy goes through are so well described. You really feel you are right there in his brain, helping and working through everything for him and trying to stop him. I was so terrified of his own capabilities to kill.

This book goes through a wide range of mental and emotional process one might experience under such a life. There is much in this book many people are not aware of. Robson kept peeling off the layers of the onion by uncovering the magnitude of every hidden mystery and secrets in this book and I applaud her for that.

Do not let the writing style and the lighter chapters at the beginning fool you. This goes dark! It is full of twists and turns and unexpected moments. Take this a little warning from me 😉.

So for those who have not read this yet, JUST READ IT. At the end of the story, it will become very clear. It will infuriate you and understand Billy at the same time. There are some stories needs to be told so that people will learn the lesson, doesn’t matter if its fiction or true to life story. This is something I didn’t want to forget. This is something I will keep in my heart because we wouldn’t know, someone out there is struggling with their own family. This book is so much more than what it seems on the surface. Highly recommended!
