RENEWAL Synopsis The lives and loves of four people are played out against the background of the greatest calamity the world has known. One is a disillusioned journalist, who seeks peace growing his own food in an isolated paradise, another a single mother, deserted on a remote farm. The second couple are a student activist, who is hunted by police and governments for his radical protests, and an Aboriginal girl, desperate to escape a racist town. When a mountainous region in the east of Australia is suddenly isolated from the rest of the world by an environmental apocalypse, the community has to learn how to survive without fuel, medicines and imported food. They are totally dependent on their own resources and have to organise themselves economically, politically and socially. They need to blend traditional skills and modern technologies in order to survive and, eventually, defend their region from an external threat.
