The Royal Alphas #2

The Selkie Prince & His Omega Guard

Rate this book
An alpha prince ready to find his fated mate. A Selkie who wishes he wasn't omega-born...

Unlike his brothers, Prince Adrian, the dutiful second-born son to the King of the North, looks forward to finding his true mate and producing an heir. Until he stumbles across a beta guard with an enticing scent.

Del never wanted to be an omega. All his life, he's only wanted one thing: to serve as a Royal Guard. Though forbidden, he found a concoction to mask his omega scent and was successful until his dwindling supply caused the alpha prince to discover his deception.

Rian not only breaks every cherished royal tradition, but ends up hiding Del until he can figure out the reason for the attraction between them. However, one selfish mistake puts them in a precarious position they can't escape. Their reckless actions have them worried they'll be banished from the Selkie community. Rian needs a plan to convince his father to accept his mate before he has to risk everything he's ever known and loved for their future. Because, no matter what the king says, Rian will not give up Del.

Note: A 60k-plus word m/m shifter mpreg story, this is the second book in the Royal Alpha series. Due to the "knotty" times in this book, it is recommended for mature readers only. It can be read as a standalone and, of course, has an HEA.

An MM Mpreg Shifter Romance.

Really liked this second installment of this series. Del was definitely my favorite person in this one, for me personally Rian was just a bit too annoying to be completely likable. Not that I didn't like who he had become by the end, it just took a long time for me to get there. Ford was also way cool too. After reading this book and what Douglas said to Rian it is not hard to figure out who Douglas is... and though I feel bad for him a tiny bit. Would have thought he would be hating someone else than the Princes since they did nothing wrong. The was a very enjoyable, suspenseful, sexy and fun read!

On second thought, let's not go there. It is a very silly place.

Well, I really didn't have very high expectations of this in the first place, so...I'm not in any way disappointed. I know, such a ringing endorsement! I'm intrigued enough by the mystery of the royal princes' paters that I'm willing to read the next in the series. After that, I guess I'll see how I feel about more selkie prince stories...

There's a lot one could say about Prince Adrian, called Rian by his relatives, but undoubtedly lack of ambition is not one of those things, as he dreams of becoming a king, he wants to meet his fated omega as soon as possible and beget his alpha hair. The problem is that he is not the first one in line to the throne, and the first ceremony during which the well-born omegas were presented to him ends with fiasco, as the one the fates chose for him is not among them. However, Rian's attention is drawn by the stunning scent emanating from one of the royal guards, Delmar. When, due to a few misunderstandings, Rian fails to get rid of this overly attractive guard, he decides to put all his eggs in one basket. Thanks to this, he discovers that Del is not really a beta, but an omega. However, it does not explain why the prince is so interested in a mere guard. Rian decides to hide Del in a cottage away from prying eyes, in order to slowly find out what's the reason behind the irresistible desire he feels for the low-born omega. Nonetheless, everything gets out of control when both of them are no longer able to resist the mutual attraction, and it puts them in even more trouble. Now Rian and Del will be forced to choose whether they want to oppose the cold and unapproachable king or the fates that guide their destiny.

"The Selkie Prince & His Omega Guard", the second volume of "The Royal Alphas" series, conquered my heart extremely quickly, and this is due to the motif of an omega hiding his gender and having a profession he would never be accepted to have otherwise. Delmar, who left his family home and decided to break a few Selkie laws in the name of his dream, impossible to make come true because of his gender, from the very beginning was a great advantage of the novel. However, as it soon turned out, J.J. Masters went a step further and offered me a real literary delicacy. In her novel, she presented an omega who believes he was born in a wrong body and doesn't accept his gender, as it not only hinders him from pursuing his desires, but he also never felt the need to make any use of his ability to give birth to children. As for me, raising this subject really was a hit! My only regret is that the author didn't develop this problem more profoundly and didn't give some additional depth to it, as in my opinion Delmar accepted his body too quickly. Although it happened due to the fact that he found his fated alpha, I really think the problem of what Del feels about himself deserved a little more space.

The novel "The Selkie Prince & His Omega Guard" should also be praised for an excellent selection of a pair of main characters, and not only for the sake of what they represent, but also for the type of people they are. One of them is an alpha, a traditionalist, a prince and just an asshole, while the other is not only an omega who thanks to lies and cheating became a royal guard, but also an arrogant, sassy person. Just think about it, can you imagine better matched lovers? While one is so serious that he is stiff, the other combines the guard's modesty and innate stubbornness, which he often shows. The author really knew what she was doing when she was matching the two of them together. Thanks to such a combination, the love story presented in the novel excites, amuses, but also often makes us want to shout with anger or pain we share with the characters. If we add to all of this a beta servant who's as humble as pugnacious, we get an explosive mixture about which we read with real pleasure. The main characters of this volume I will undoubtedly put at the very top of my "favorites in the whole series" list.

I have already mentioned a bit about Delmar, who captured my heart with his approach to his gender, but I think that not only him, but also Rian deserves a little more of our attention. On the one hand, he is the personification of tradition, which he has so far believed in and according to which he has lived, on the other hand, his example shows how little there is to say when feelings and the fates are involved. The situation in which the author puts Rian definitely is not the easiest one to deal with, as the prince has to choose between love and future – that is what he has desired so far. The reader is a witness of how hard Rian tries to find a way out of his difficult situation, although he often hurts the person he loves the most. In fact, he must defy himself and all that made him who he was till now. Maybe he is a terrible asshole, but probably no one would like to be in his shoes. So in the case of this character, the struggle between who he was so far and who he is to become due to the selection of his life partner by the fates is presented the most thoroughly.

In "The Selkie Prince & His Omega Guard" I really liked the fact that this volume outlines a side plot of the next volumes of the series. The point is that while the love story of the proud alpha and his little bit cheeky omega develops in it's own way, the author also adds to it a really serious story about all the Royal Princes and King Solomon himself. And as this side part of the plot doesn't have its end in this volume, it will continue in the following ones for sure. It reminds me of a jigsaw puzzle that consists of several pictures. Each picture can be successfully put together separately from the other ones and it will form a whole, but something much larger and more fantastic is created only by putting together all the parts of this jigsaw puzzle. What's more, it is this additional story woven into the love story of this volume that attracts the readers and makes them eager to reach for the next part of the series to satisfy their curiosity and know what's waiting for the characters in the future. In this way J.J. Masters again proved in this volume that she knows how to create a novel in a way that the reader can't resist it.

To sum up, "The Selkie Prince & His Omega Guard" is a really good and interesting novel that combines individual dramas, family secrets, unexpected love, perversity of the fates and a rather large hint of sweetness and funny situations. This is a book that attracts the readers and makes them look forward to the next volumes of the series. It also promises some amazing emotions in the future.

Podsumowując, „The Selkie Prince & His Omega Guard” to naprawdę dobra i interesująca powieść, która łączy w sobie indywidualne dramaty, sekrety rodzinne, niespodziewaną miłość, przekorność Mojr oraz sporą szczyptę słodyczy i zabawnych sytuacji. To książka, która przyciąga czytelnika i zachęca do sięgnięcia po kolejne tomy serii, a także obiecuje nam niesamowite emocje w przyszłości.

I really loved this series. It had everything I needed.

Shifters ✔️
Fated Mates ✔️
Mpreg ✔️
Amazing Characters ✔️
An Interesting Plot ✔️
A Whole Lot of Knotting ✔️
& Undeniable Chemistry ✔️

It was amazing. I just ate it all up one after the other. I literally just devoured the entire series and am now suffering from a pretty pathetic book... ehh series hangover. I really didn't want it to end and I really hope we get more in this series or atleast more from this author. I was so disappointed that there wasn't more by this author out there because I am pretty sure I would have read that too. I am actually taken aback by how much I loved this series and how much I will miss these characters. They were all pretty extraordinary.

The Selkie Prince's Fated Mate

The Selkie Prince & His Omega Guard
I really liked this one. It was amazing how much Adrian managed to mess things up. I really liked the fact that he was supposed to be the obedient son but ended up flouting every rule. I also really liked Del and Rian together. Del's personality doesn't come out much in a group so this is really the only book in which we get to know him. I was actually not sure if I would like these two but I totally did. Also, I loved Kai as the wiser brother that was something I would have never have expected Rian to fess up to. The confrontation scene with the king, their father was also epic what with Zale standing up for Rian. I really love the dynamic between the brothers with them bickering and whispering. Love it.

The Selkie Prince's Unexpected Omega

The Selkie Prince's Forbidden Mate

The Selkie Prince's Secret Baby

This series was extraordinary and I am really looking forward to more by J.J. Masters and maybe even more in this series (fingers crossed).

Unacceptable Omega
I never expected the story of Prince Rian the second born of King Solomon's five Alpha sons to be so good. While not the easiest to like amongst his brothers due to his rigidity. Rian was also most liked his traditionalist father. Even believing in the embarrassing and painful traditions were just a part of Selkie rituals that were perfectly acceptable. His brothers tease him mercilessly for his well-known desire to assume the throne and title of King over his firstborn brother. He's been been grooming for it and wanted it more than anything until that fateful day he caught such an alluring scent that he just had to track it down.

When he finally discovered what he'd be searching for he was shocked by what he found and outraged. His penchant for following the rules always made someone who broke them Unacceptable. When he learned the Beta was actually an Omega posing as a Guard his head nearly exploded! Yet shockingly he couldn't keep his hands and other body parts off of this Omega. To his shame he kept his fated / bonded mate hidden in an isolated cabin trying to think of a good enough story to explain his presence to the King.

I didn't like how Rian treated Del, keeping the Omega hidden like a dirty little secret. Neither did his Beta servant who spent more time with the lonely Omega. It was so sweet when the Beta referred to the growing baby as theirs his Prince, his Omega, and him. The excitement really begins when the pregnant Omega is discovered.

I have a love hate relationship going on with Rain. Every time I think ok now I like him he goes and mess it all up by doing something dumb. He started out been just like his dad and lord knows that man is a big asshole. Rain heart is in the right place but his actions will have you wanting to kill him through out whole book. Del is a sweetheart he just wants to do his job but the fates have different plans for him. Del and Rain are night and day but so perfect for each other Del knows he is not good enough for Rain but his heart want have anyone but him. At times you will want to jump in the book and grab Del by the hand and just walk away from Rain dumbass and not look back I mean the things that he says and do will drive you crazy. I love the fact that Del gives Rain time to figure things out but forces him to admit how he feels about Del. When Rain finally removes the stick from his butt that's when all hell breaks loose and he must decide what more important his title are his new family. It's the king who will shock you when he gives a small glimpse of his heart. I'm looking forward to the next book and the brothers finally putting Douglas in his place. I voluntarily read a arc copy.

Like book one, I struggled with this one, but for a different reason.

There was still a little too much smex (made the rhythm/flow choppy). But significantly better than book one (and I know the series hits a good balance in book three.)

My issue with this title was actually that it felt slightly transphobic. I was excited when it seemed mc2 was non-cis. But there’s a tone of once he gets his alpha, he begins to accept his birth gender. Like his alpha “fixed” him. This might be reader error though. The author could’ve meant that mc2 felt like his gender was wrong bc he didn’t fit the “ideal” and I just misunderstood all the description as trans. So I won’t judge too harshly.

NOTE - I have continued the series (just started book 5). Book 2 has some issues, but the series does greatly improve after this book and hits its stride with book 3)

How I rate:
***** - loved and will repeat countlessly
**** - really liked it (likely repeat)
*** - good book, I enjoyed it (most titles)
** - just not my cuppa
* - hated it or has something(s) that I can’t abide. (Glorified assault and such like that.)

This is the second book in The Royal Alphas Series. An engrossing book the writing was good. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters intriguing. The characters were developed and thought out. Adrian and Delmar are the MC’s of this book and fated mates. There was humor, royalty, Royal Guard, seal skins, mates, family, difficulties, a cottage and more in this book.

Here is a quote from the book, “Why would that thought even enter his brain? Panic began to rise quickly once again. “Please…” “Please what?” “Please let me go.” “No. You have panicked needlessly about something and we’re going to discuss it like two sane males.” “Okay.” The prince grimaced. “Now you’re being agreeable just to escape.” “No. I swear. I’ll be calm,” Del lied. The one side of the prince’s lips lifted. “Right.”. There is more but you will need to read the book which I can recommend this book as a good read. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Hoity-Toity Fun!

This book was amazing, way better than the 1st in my opinion! I loved the way Rian and Del met. The plot of Del not wanting to be an omega and hiding his scent so he could have the life of being a guard like he had always dreamed was intriguing. Plus, Del kept Rian on his toes and I loved their relationship/banter. The way Del held his own against Rian and presented himself as a strong omega was a fun twist. Sometimes omegas are portrayed as weak but that wasn't the case for this situation and that made the story line so much better! Ford really surprised me as well, I LOVE that he took Del's side and there was a few LOL moments between him and Rian when he was defending the omega. I also thoroughly enjoyed getting to know more about the brothers and the selkie culture. King Solomon and Douglas are still jerks, you get a little more information about the King (even though it doesn't excuse his behaviour), but Dougie douche is still a mystery. I'm looking forward to Zale's story!

For adult readers
I have grown quite find of the selkies. I think as a shifter race, Selkies are pretty original. I also think it would be pretty wonderful to put on a second skin and become a deal like creature whenever I wanted to. The second born son of King Solomon was always most like his father, the one who most adhered to traditional rules, followed all laws, until he caught the scent of his fated mate. Prince Adrian new it was his turn to find a mate and produce an heir. Adrian, unlike the rest of his brothers, wants to be king and rule someday. Delmar of Finlandia is a law breaker from the time Rian first scents him. I like everything about the Selkie race. The characters are all pretty wonderful except Douglas and he the one you'll love to hate. King Solomon come across as a pompous ass, but after reading this one, I think there is a bit more to him. I think books are well written with great stories.

3.5 stars, there is change afoot in the kingdom

m/m shifter mpreg story, this is the second book in the “Royal Alpha” series, and should be read in order. First off, I should start by saying that I read all 5 books in the series before writing my reviews because I needed more to the story before giving up.

This book opens up with the presentation of 6 Omegas to the second-oldest Alpha Prince. Like in book 1, They are naked, rumps up and it’s demoralizing to read because it doesn’t stop there. However, none of these are a match, they are sent on their way but Adrian still smells/senses something amiss. Rian is the son who plays by the rules, trying to keep every tradition possible, but it is awesome to see him fight for his fated mate even though he must use chicanery to do so. This is still a pretty F-up world these Alpha sons live in but we start to see things change a little bit more!

The Selkie Prince and the Omega Guard

This is Book 2 in a tale about 5 royal Alphas who also happen to be Selkies. Their father, the king, is trying to match them up with an omega. An omega they can scent is their fated mate. This story is about the second prince who was the most like his father. He followed the rules and he believed in the rules that were out there. Until he scented a Royal Guard who should have been a beta but was an Omega. From bad to worse, he sends him to a cottage. When he gets there, he ends up rutting him.
If you think oh well that is pretty much the gist of it. Oh no! There is lots more to this one. Possible Banishment; Giving up the throne; What happens? Who knows unless you READ the rest! It is an HEA, MM, Mpreg story filled with pieces of erotica if you want to read this.
I most enjoyed how a prince who had a stick up his bottom managed to change his spots for the love of his fated mate, his omega.

What were they going to do?

Rian came across as strict, uptight, and go by the rules type of Prince in book one. He still “thinks” about the rules, but when meeting his mate, he struggles with what’s right and wrong.

Del, not ever wanting to be an Omega disguises his sex for his dream job as a Royal Guard.

The tension, confusion, and want from Rian is intense and I loved the battle he has towards wanting Del.
“How does my scent make you feel, Del?” “It makes me feel as if I’m home."

The two really are perfect for each other. Del gives Rian that extra push he needs to loosen up,
Rian’s mouth dropped open, then he snapped it shut. “Your impudence, Omega, is astounding.”

I was hoping for Rian’s story and it turned out better then I imagined. I’m excited to see who the other brothers find.

This is the second book in The Royal Alphas series and, like the first one, I enjoyed this story. I really liked omega Del and felt bad for him at times. Prince Rian took a little longer to like. He kept putting his foot in his mouth without thinking about the impact on Del. Eventually, he realizes he can't and won't deny his feelings. It just took a long time for that to happen. When it did though, I thought his gesture proved to Del what Rian's true feelings were. I also liked Ford, Prince Rian's loyal beta servant. He was perfect for both Rian and Del. The King and Douglass are both a**es. I really disliked them both and am hopeful Douglass, especially, will get what he deserves.

Even the best laid plans do not go as expected! This is especially true for an uptight by the rules Prince Adrian. Unlike his brothers, he has always wanted to follow the traditional ways of his Royal Selkie Family. All of that comes crashing down when he meets his fated omega Del in the most unexpected place. This book takes you on a journey of forbidden love, growth, family, and coming out of a comfort zone! It also leaves you with some big questions about the royal family and what is to come! I loved this second book of the series! It helped me fall even more for the Princes of the North and has me easy to dive right into the next book! Another awesome book by J J Masters!

I enjoyed this second book more than I did the first. The King was still heartless and cold but his moments toward the end were touching and I seen some caring in him. I do wonder now about all his Omegas that have passed and if there are more siblings and what happened to them. Also am curious to find out more about Douglass and his connection with the King. However this book about Prince Adrian and his omega mate Del was endearing and had some humorous moments as well. I loved Del and felt sorry for him and his plight. Also, loved that someone was able to bring Adrian’s haughtiness from book 1 down some, he needed that. Looking forward to the next book.

Rian really surprised me with his tenderness. He was the rule follower, most likely to be like his father. When he finds his omega, who has not a notorious family tree he struggles between duty and following his heart. Del is a strong willed omega who didn’t want to be an omega. He wanted to serve the King. He will learn though, to be who he is. Love will change his mind. Nic, prince Kai human ex lover reappears in this book. I hope he gets his prince. I loved this book, even if Prince Adrian is slow to come to terms with himself and his omega.

This is the second book in the Royal Alphas series and I throughly enjoyed the book. I wasn't sure at first if I was going to like Rian, but I really did in the end! He started out so pompous and full of himself and it was great to see him become tender and sweet as he acknowledged his feelings for Del and fought for their relationship. Del is wonderful, the perfect blend of sweet and sassy to balance Rian. I can't wait to read more books and see Douglass and the king get what's coming to them!

Loved It!

I loved this second book in the Royal Alphas series! I couldn’t put it down!
This was Prince Adrian ( Rian) and Delmar’s( Del) story. It was a fantastic, sweet, sexy story! It was well written with amazing characters! I love the interaction with the brothers and their beta servants. They are very entertaining! The King and Douglass were up to the same trouble making as before. I think I have Douglass figured out but I’ll have find out in the other Princes books. Hopefully Douglass will get what he has coming!

Omega in disguise

I'd been looking forward to reading this since reading the excerpt at the end of book one and I was in no way disappointed. That being said, I did want to comfort Del at times. Rain was exasperating but only because he insisted on being the dutiful son his father expected him to be. Del and Rain were characters who really drew me in, their story is a great second installment in the Royal Alphas series.

After reading volume 1 I never expected to see Rian as anything other than a pompous jerk. As the main characters unfold, Del and Ford are both endeared to me. J.J. could not have chosen a more appropriate, outspoken mate or a better beta servant to both knock Rian down a peg or two. I thoroughly enjoyed this second volume and am anxious for the story to continue with Zale and Finn. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Great addition to this wonderful series. Love the storyline, it's very well written and developed and flows smoothly. Del and Rian are wonderful characters who are perfect together. Their chemistry is amazing and they're very hot together. They are total opposites but mesh so well together. They have several bumps and obstacles along the way that they must overcome together if they want love to prevail! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Loved Prince Adrian

Prince Adrian is all for finding his mate and following the traditions, well at least he was until a certain scent tried him off track. Adrian, or Rian as preferred, goes completely against every rule and tradition in spectacular fashion. Rian can't help what happens with Del, and he didn't want it to stop. The heat and attraction was burning hot and the drama kept me hooked. Loved Rian and Del.

Yeahhh I didn't enjoy this. Probably because the characters are awful and I wouldn't associate with them in real life. Though I commend Masters for not changing Ryan's personality just to please the audience. It's unfortunate because I liked the guard in the beginning but he became something else by the end. It really doesn't make sense these two work together, but we really don't know who the guard is throughout the whole thing.

Unlike the first book, this one grabbed my attention right away. I started this book already disliking Rian, he was so rigid in his beliefs, and I continued to dislike him for about 90% of the book. Del, I was back and forth about, he was very wishy washy. One minute strong and sassy and the next subservient. But I did love this book, there was never a dull minute.

And again

I loved another book. A book that's not anything like what I usually love. But by an author that's one of the best out there. Using a pen name for this Omegaverse series, Jeanne St James, award winning author of both law enforcement and MC books, shows that she's amazing in all genres!

I loved seeing Rian learn some life lessons and between Del, his fated mate, and Ford, his beta servant, Rian got smacked a few times with them. This is a great follow up to the first book in the series although the misogyny still runs rampant. I’m ignoring it because I’m hoping change will come by the last book. Regardless, Rian and Del are wonderful and the birthing scene was hilarious.

Wow! This was a great book and new insight into Rian... after book one I was kind of worried about him, but JJ brought us along for the ride in this one and I am so glad.. such a beautiful story, well written, with unexpected twists to take it to the next level... great job JJ!
