Jessie Boudreaux and her labradoodle, Fitzgerald, move back to Port Caralinda after ten years on the west coast for a fresh start as the new owner of a Victorian bed and breakfast on Main Street. She was counting on four things: time at the beach, opening her new business, cooking delicious breakfasts, and living close to her chakra reading aunt, Gertrude “Glow-Ray” Boudreaux, and uncle, Terry. But she never counted on being caught up in solving the murder of a wealthy real estate mogul. The secrets Jessie uncovers put her at odds with the local police lieutenant and threaten her return to Port Caralinda. With the summer season heating up, all Jessie wants to do is settle in and enjoy the sun, surf, and sand with Fitz at her side. But before she can begin her new life and put plans for her B&B into action, Jessie and Fitz have a mystery to solve.
A good read. Didn't like the ending as it really became too obvious who the culprit was. When her job is axed she decides to come home. How many businesses can be bought for five dollars? The first person she meets is an unpleasant individual who's building a new hotel. What she doesn't realise is how close to her own B&B it is. Only realising this when she and her dog find his dead body in concrete. Who killed him and why? These thoughts occupy her as she goes around talking to people. Can she find the culprit, even though she has been warned off by an old boyfriend who now works in the police department. The characters will get better in future books and hopefully the killer will be harder to spot.
A good story and smooth reading. A new author for me but I will definitely be following her. Jessie moves back to her beach community after being gone for 10 years. She has bought a B&B Victorian for $5. A big hotel resort is being built across the road and when the owner is found dead Jessie can’t help but get involved.
