Cal hates February 14th, the day his ex wife served him with divorce papers. Trina also hates the date because it's on that date she caught her cheating ex boyfriend Carlos with another woman, not just any woman, but her tennis rival! She's been on the run ever since her very public breakup! She finally lands in Three Rivers and shares an apartment with a woman named Libby who she gave six months rent to even though she hadn't seen the apartment. When she goes to a masked dance a few days after arriving she meets Cal and her whole life changes. Only she gets scared after the first dance and runs away, leaving one of her boots behind when she falls. Cal wants nothing more than to find the lovely lady who he dubs his "Butterfly". Then Trina starts working on the ranch at Courage Reins. He feels he's met her before but doesn't recognize her. What happens next? Will they be able to get over their differences and get to know each other? Only one way to find out, read this great story by Liz Isaacson!
This was a sweet cowboy spin on the Cinderella story. Cal is an older cowboy, his heart guarded due to his ex's manipulations so he only has eyes for his six-year-old daughter. But one dance with the Butterfly has him all sorts of flustered and he's obsessed with finding out who she really is. Then he meets Trina, a woman who is trying to put as much distance as possible between her past life and the Three Rivers Ranch where she now works. Cal is torn between his growing feelings for Trina and his intense fascination with the Butterfly.
Three Rivers is one of the best environments for a series of standalone romances, and this one fits right in with the rest. The writing is exceptional, the characters are flawed but familiar, and you just know if they were real they'd be your new best friends. There is a strong focus on faith that grounds each character as they work out their feelings for each other. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I received an advanced copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another great book by Liz. Trina is a famous tennis player who is hiding from the everyone after a very public breakup with her trainer. Cal is a vet tech on Three Rivers Ranch. They meet first at a dance where Trina is dresses as a butterfly and they only dance once and then she takes off. Cal follows but doesn't catch her but he does find her boot that she lost. He looks everywhere for her and keeps her boot on the mantel in his cabin. Trina starts her new job at Three Rivers working with Brynn but she cuts her hair short and colors it before she does. Cal feels betrayed later when he finds out that Trina is the butterfly and that she has been to his place and seen that boot many times and never said anything. Will Trina finally tell him the truth about who she is? Will Cal be able to forgive her for not saying anything?
Cal is a Veterinary Tech/cowboy working on Three Rivers Ranch. He guards his heart after being hurt by his manipulative ex-wife. He has no interest in falling in love. His love is all for his six year old daughter.
Cal lets fellow cowboys talk him into going to a Halloween masquerade dance. While there he dances with a girl dressed as a monarch butterfly and starts to think maybe he could fall in love again.
Trina is running from her former life and doesn’t want to be recognized so she runs away from the dance leaving behind her cowboy boot with a butterfly design stitched on it . . . Shades of Cinderella!
Cal begins his search for the enchanting butterfly.
The Curse of February Fourteenth is an engaging story of second chance love. I recommend it to anyone who loves a good clean contemporary romance.
What happens when a very rich runaway tennis pro and a Texan cowboy meet? A TOTAL EXPLOSION! That’s what Liz Isaacson gives us in The Curse of February Fourteenth. Cal Hodgkins is a cowboy at Three Rivers Ranch who is comfortable with being alone (well, unless his daughter is with him), veterinary technician and all round cowboy. Katrina Salisbury has been a very successful tennis pro and being number one in the world, but working on a ranch was a completely different story. The meeting begins with a lost cowboy boot. Two lonely, wounded hearts with shattered backgrounds find understanding and love under the Texas skies and at Three Rivers Ranch. This is a sweet book to curl up with on these cold winter days. I know I couldn’t put it down once I started reading it!
Katrina is an international tennis champion who has had a nasty breakup with her boyfriend. She gets a job in a small town in Texas as Trina, a ranch worker! Trina’s roommate talks her into going to a Halloween dance. Cal has been divorced for several years and not interested in another woman until he sees Trina who is wearing a mask. When his mystery woman hurries away after their dance, she loses a too large cowboy boot which he takes home with him. Now he needs to find the intriguing woman who lost her boot! You will enjoy this ranch romance by Liz Isaacson! I received an advance e-book of The Curse of February Fourteenth from the author. This is my honest opinion.
A modern Cinderella retelling-kinda. Really the similarity was just that they met at a dance, she ran away and lost her cowboy boot which he found and kept hoping to find her again. In truth the story could have gone along without the boot and still been the story but it was fine the way it was.
It is a quick read, clean and sweet. I liked both characters even if I didn't really understand her need to be in hiding. I liked that in the end she was the one that was able to resolve the conflict as opposed to waiting for her Prince Charming to save her.
This book has pretty strong religious themes but not over the top.
Trina wants to escape herself and her past. Cal wants to regain his dating feet after a divorce from his wife. They meet at the local Halloween dance where Trina wears a mask and is unrecognizable. When Cal tries to make conversation with her, Trina has a panic attack leaving Cal alone with one of the boots she wore and his obsession to find her. Then fate strikes. Trina starts working at the same ranch where Cal works. But now, she is Trina and not the monarch butterfly she was at the dance. This is a modern day/cowboy cinderella story. I enjoyed this couples plight while trying to overcome their own shortcomings. It's fun.
Another excellent romance read by Liz. Cant beat the Three Rivers Ranch series. Combine a cowboy who was served his divorce papers on Feb 14, with a tennis star who found out her boyfriend/manager cheated on her .. on national television on Feb 14. When she decided to run from her "stardom" and become anonymous she ends up at Three Rivers Ranch working as a barn helper. Sparks fly between the two and romance begins, but what will happen when he finds out her secret shes been hiding from him. A sweet Cinderella type story! I recommend this book highly.
Cinderella goes cowboy in this sweet little tale. A mystery girl, a magical dance, and some missing footwear bring Cal and Trina their fairy tale moment. Both of these survivors have a few trust issues to sort out and good reason to hate Cupid and his holiday, but together they just might be able to make some new and better memories this Valentine’s Day. For such a quick little story, there’s a lot of drama, a lot of emotion packed in here. When things go sideways it hurts to watch, but when their right, they’re magical. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this story.
Beautiful retelling story of Cinderella, told Western style. Cal lonely, would like to find that special someone, but, at 39,unlikely. Presuaded to attend a mask party, seeing his dream of someone, she left. A boot set upon the mantle of someone who intrigue’s him. Trina comes and friendship begins, could it be more, until one boot is spotted. Time to let the past go, forgive the one’s who wronged her. Beautiful story, and liked the idea of Cinderella with a boot left. GivenARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
Cal is the vet on a cowboy ranch and has a lot of baggage. Katrina is the new hire on the ranch and has a load of baggage all her own. They are really attracted to one another, but Trina is hiding secrets. When Cal finds out, he feels he can’t trust her. This is a really good story with lots of problems, but learning to trust one another is the only way they can make it. I really enjoyed this story. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The review is completely my own opinion.
Cal Hodgkins isn't looking for love but he is mysteriously drawn to the beautiful monarch butterfly he dances with. When she disappears, can he let himself fall for the beautiful but guarded Trina or will he hold out for his mysterious monarch? Trina comes to town with plenty of baggage but can't help her attraction to the handsome cowboy, Cal. Will they be able to let go of their pasts to find a future together or will the memory of the butterfly prevent it?
This is a fun romantic novella that is part of the Three Rivers Ranch series. This was a cute retelling of Cinderella. Cal meets a beautiful woman dressed as a butterfly at a dance but she runs off leaving her cowboy boot behind. Cal wasn't looking to find someone and now he has met someone he is drawn to and enjoys spending time with but that cowboy boot keeps reminding him of the woman that ran out of the dance. This is a book of change, trust and finding a love that is real.
a cowboy Cinderella Story with real heart. Cal's looking someone to share his life with while dealing with his own past Trina is running from her past while looking for a new future the meet at a masquerade dance and Sparks Fly. only problem is it's a masquerade and no one knows who the beautiful butterfly is. Liz Isaacson writes wonderful characters that you want to get to know.
I liked the fact that this story featured an older man, but boy was he stubborn. Cal gets angry that Trina kept something from him and holds on to it for an unhealthy amount of time. Good thing Trina doesn't give up. Since Valentines day brings up bad memories maybe they can make new memories on Valentine's day. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
This is a fun western twist on Cinderella with a missing boot instead of a glass slipper. Call and Trina are a cute couple who've both been through some trials and are at different stages of overcoming them. I love that even though Trina's been broken, she's not willing to give up. She is a strong woman trying to find herself and I really liked that. A fun sweet romance.
Cal and Trina meet at a masked ball - he's not wearing a mask. Instant attraction but he doesn't know who she is and she wants to keep it that way. There is angst and I really wanted to tell Cal to get over himself. Honestly I thought she had a reason to be upset with him. But we know the prince always gets the princess - loved the boot. You can't go wrong with a book by this author.
She’s running away and he’s staying put. When their paths collide there’s a chemical reaction no one expected! Great book with deep, well-written characters. Family and faith play a big part in the story I highly recommend this book and all the others in this series
The cowboy boot the butterfly Cal Hodgkin veterinarian technician. Halloween dance being swept off her feet Trina is emerging. Trina Katrina number one world Tennis champion confusion as she no longer wants to be her now born at the Halloween dance is Trina. Awesome story by Liz Isaacson can’t wait for more of the three rivers ranch
Cute Cinderella story of Cal and Trina who each have their own reasons for living in a small town, working on a ranch.
Spoiler warning: I was disappointed there was no real commitment mentioned between the two of them in the end other than their intentions to live at Cal’s cabin.
This was a great retelling of the Cinderella story...and so good done with a Cowboy. Gil is "older" divorced and has a child, he has given up on dating but his "friends" talk him into going to the Valentine Dance. The Butterfly lady he dances one dance with sparks interest in him but she runs from him leaving her boot. Thus begins a really good story.
Cal has been hurt by his ex wife when she served him divorce papers on Valentines Day. Trina is tired of her cheating boyfriend while she works hard as a Tennis Pro. Now she in Three Rivers where no one knows who she is. She meets Cal at the Halloween dance. But things get different.
This is a very interesting story. Cal hasn't dated since he divorced his wife. His friends and co-workers constantly try to get him to go out. He finally agrees to go to a dance. Guess what happens? Read the book to find out the answer. You will not be disappointed.
Cowboy, Cal Hodgkins is a Veterinarian for Bowman’s Breeds on Three Rivers Ranch. When Katrina Salisbury shows up as to work for Bowman’s Breeds it’s obvious she has never worked a ranch before. Actually she’s a world renowned tennis player looking for a change in careers, but she doesn’t want to be known. The plot includes healing from past hurts, and moving forward. An uplifting story.
I was drawn into this book by Cal. He was a very interesting cowboy. I wanted him to find his true love. I am so glad he danced with the Butterfly because it opened him up to love again. And the love story between Cal and Trina was amazing.
This novella is a spin on the Cinderella story, which is a sweet, clean romance story worth reading. Even though it is a short story, it draws you in from the beginning and develops the characters quite nicely. Another good story by this author.
Great book to read for Valentines! It is about 2 people that both have had a traumatic experience on Valentine in the past and how they work through there feeling and things so that they can be happy and move forward in life.
I love the Three Rivers Ranch series. I have read them all and always anxiously await the book in t he series. Call and Trina make a sweet couple after they get their ups and downs figured out.
I do like the Three Rivers series. I thought this book was a good addition to the series. The butterfly and a tennis star was inventive. And who can resist a cowboy? Good read that I totally enjoyed.
