Organic Alchemy is based on talks and discussions held in Europe and America in the summer of 1974. The topics relate to actual living situations, and for that reason are in the nature of a practical guide to self-exploration rather than mere academic discussion. To bring about a radical transformation of the human mind the totality of the mind has to be understood. First of all, the conflict between the conscious and the unconscious has to be eliminated. When the deepest recesses of the unconscious are explored and understood, this integration releases a tremendous energy. If this energy is not misused, the spiritual transformation that follows is an effortless and nameless event. In some cases the spiritual transformation occurs first, without a complete unfoldment of the psychic content. For many persons the development of the psychic sensibility may not be important, because conflict can end even in its absence. But for the sake of completeness, the psychic sensibility, which is an activity within the field of the known of the relative, is still important. Organic alchemy thus has two stages. The first is the transformation of the nigredo into albedo, which can be likened to the psychic transformation. At his level of transformation, although there is sufficient power and happiness, there is not a complete enlightenment. The second stage, the transformation of the albedo into rubedo, is a truly complete transformation in which the ego disappears completely. In this state not only is there power and supreme bliss also total understanding
This book is a fabulous read for anyone looking to live more authentically. Very deep, very intellectually stimulating. The book is a written documentation of 13 different talks given by the author and outlines how we might understand the operation of our mind and how strongly we identify with our ego or conscious mind. Living more authentically necessarily means living a more detached life and letting go of our ego, but how do we actually do that? This book is less conceptual and more practical in the sense that there are no "techniques" to really get to this enlightenment, so the practice becomes very abstract and he does a wonderful job of explaining this within the confines of language. This book is helpful in understanding how to sit down and do our own work and what a true spiritual or psychological transformation looks like. It helps the reader understand how life is one big projection because most of us do not reconcile the unconscious with the conscious.
