Gymnast Simone Biles won four Olympic gold medals in 2016, and she plans to compete at the Olympics again in 2021. This carefully leveled text with engaging photos and critical thinking questions will be a hit with young gymnastics fans.
Simone Biles is an American artistic gymnast who has won seven Olympic medals in her career.
She, in fact, has won the most medals by an American gymnast. She is considered one of the greatest gymnasts of all time. She had to endure many hardships to build this illustrious career. She suffered from many injuries and had to come back each time after a hiatus due to injury. She also was one of the survivors of the treacherous acts of Larry Nassar.
During the 2020 Summer Olympics, she had gone through experiencing "the twisties," a psychological phenomenon causing a gymnast to lose air awareness while performing twisting elements. She also pointed out the mental health issues and psychological pressure that athletes have to go through in their careers.
The life story of Simone Biles shows us all the obstacles that a person has to overcome to become a champion. She is living proof of the adage, "Successful people are not afraid to fail as they try new solutions and look for ways to overcome the obstacle that is in their path."
The author didn’t have to do Simone biles like that. Could’ve added more details about her life before gymnastics and during it. And also how the book was read, I didn’t like it
Listened to the audiobook and it could be used as a lullaby for kids. My 6 year old even said that it was really slow. You are better off reading the book version.
I was asked to "listen" to a grouping of several audiobooks, all nonfiction, and all geared for super young readers. I was then asked to give some honest feedback to a librarian about these books. My gut feeling, they realize the audiobook versions of what (may) be decent early reader books are garbage.
This is one of those books. The audiobook is garbage. Slow, slow, slow -- you can crank it up to 2x the speed and it is still slow. They really want to make those 3 minutes count!
Simone deserves better. This book is so basic that it actually upset me a little bit while reading. I get it, I get it, this is designed for children. But still, this was very 'simple' even for a child. And the pacing killed me -- which seems to be a trend with the audiobooks I was asked to give feedback on. So, so, so slow.
First, I want it to be clear that my rating has nothing to do with Simone herself. She is absolutely amazing.
This title, while I acknowledge is for young readers, completely drops the ball in teaching young readers about the amazingness that is Simone Biles. In fact, it didn't provide any biographical details about the talented gymnast, other than going to the Rio Olympics and winning 4 gold medals (but doesn't mention her bronze).
If you or your children are wanting to learn about Simone, this is NOT the book for it.
This book wasn't great. For one thing, in the audiobook, the narration is just awful. I understand it is a book for children, but children don't need you to read to them as if they're completely stupid. Even my brother, who is 8 years old, got frustrated with how slow the narration was. The book itself was also not so great. All I knew about her was that she is an olympic gymnast and I walked away knowing no new information. You would think they would at least have said more about her than the one thing we all know about her already. I would not recommend this book and I'm very certain there are better books about her than this one.
I found this book because I searched to see if Simone had written any books of her own or if anyone had written any about her. Simone is amazing but this book is awful. Like I know it’s for children but it was honestly so bad I don’t even think children would enjoy it. It honestly had nothing interesting or important about Simone in it. Like none of her achievements or her story. Hoping to find a better book about her soon.
The rating is for the audiobook, not regarding Simone Biles in any way. She deserves a full-length, in-depth book. This is not a book, it's a Wiki pamphlet. There is no story here, just spewing random facts about Simone Biles. I doubt any research was done at all. The author could have literally just copued random wiki facts. Plus the lack of technical care. I read the audiobook and even at 2x speed, it was still slow. Either it was a mistake or this is a farce.

This rating is not a reflection of simone just the book.
Its BRUTAL so slow. Unbarably slow speaking and the language is so dumbed down. It feels like this would onl be useful for 2-3 year olds. But I cant imagine any 2-3 year olds caring about this.
Do not get the audio version! It lasts about a minute 😂. I’m guessing the physical version has lots of photos but it’s definitely geared towards very early readers. Few facts, no questions even though the book description says there are, and the reader sounds like it’s a computer generated voice.
This is obviously a book meant for children. However, I don’t think children are that stupid for this book to use such simplistic language. Don’t even get me started on the narrator. I had to put it at 2x speed for it to sound normal.
This rating isn’t for the book itself, though there is no new information to be learned really. But the person reading this audiobook was just horrendous.
