After a friend and now business partner is suspected of attacking a competitor and leaving him for dead, Carlita and Mercedes dive in with their own investigation to help clear his name and also save their investment.
--------------------------
Carlita Garlucci has her hands full preparing for the opening of her dream restaurant, which is just days away and a new tenant is moving into her apartment building. There’s only one problem…Mercedes, Carlita’s daughter, can’t stand him.
As if she weren’t already busy enough, Carlita’s friends have asked her to partner with them in a new business venture. Despite her reservations, Carlita agrees to join them, but quickly regrets it when their main competitor is attacked and left for dead.
All of the clues point to her friend and now business partner, Pirate Pete, and Carlita realizes it’s too late to back out - she’s already given him a large chunk of money to invest.
Determined to prove Pete is innocent and to keep their investment from sinking, Carlita and Mercedes dive into their own investigation, only to discover someone is lying and willing to put lives in peril to boot.
Pirates in Peril in the tenth book in in Hope Callaghan’s awesome Made in Savannah Cozy Mystery series. The storyline is well plotted and the characters are well developed. There are plenty of suspects with motive and opportunity and lots of twists and turns in this steadily paced book. I was at a loss as to the identity of the culprit until the final reveal. The writing style flows smoothly and this is an easy read, which doesn’t contain any gratuitous sex, graphic violence, or adult language. Once again, Ms. Callaghan has written a well thought out and interesting mystery, with a great story line, affable characters, and humor. I highly recommend all Ms. Callaghan’s books to anyone who enjoys reading well-crafted cozy mysteries.
Carlita Garlucci is pleased with the progress Bob Lowman’s construction crew is making with the renovations to the building that will be home to her restaurant, Ravello. Tony, Carlita’s middle son, who manages their pawnshop recently became engaged to Shelby Townsend, one of Carlita’s tenants, and once they’re married, will move into an apartment above Ravello with her young daughter, Violet. Carlita’s oldest son, Vinnie, who recently married Brittney, the daughter of mob boss Vito Castellinis, and is working in at his father-in-law’s casino in New Jersey. Mercedes, who writes and self-publishes books, has had a run-in or two with their new tenant, Sam Ivey, an ex-police officer who loves his new career of giving historical walking tours. Carlita’s friends, Pirate Pete Taylor and Tory Montgomery, present her with an interesting business opportunity, but she’s worried she’s already taken on more than she can handle. Pete and Tori are bringing a pirate themed boat to the shores of the Savannah River and want Carlita to buy into the tourist venture and be their silent partner.
While walking Rambo, Carlita smelled smoke and saw smoke curling from the rear of the Mystic Dream, Lawson Bates’ boat. Lawson insists the fire was arson and points his finger at several people, some of whom are friends of the Garlucci family. When Lawson is brutally beaten and in a coma, Carlita fears the authorities will view her friends as people of interest. Carlita and Mercedes soon discover that Lawson is a ruthless business owner, has lots of enemies, and are truly shocked about some of the man’s activities. They become frustrated because they’ve uncovered plenty of suspects, but no solid evidence pointing to who attacked Lawson and damaged the Mystic Dream.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Former New Yorkers Carlita Garlucci with her daughter Mercedes and son Tony are enjoying their new life and Savannah Swag pawnshop business in Savannah, Ga. They also have their renter/tenants living in close quarters in their apartment building since they live in one of the units, and are building Carlita’s restaurant Ravello next door, so Carlita has her hands full.
When another investment options comes with friends, Carlita hesitates but ultimately chooses to invest - she loves Pirate Pete and her gal pal Tori who are part of the pending venture. The three do not realize what a wild, entertaining and dangerous adventure it will prove to be - it’s crazzzy, which makes it more fun, with the whole Savannah cast of friends on board and a new interesting tenant in the mix too.
This cozy mystery series hits an interesting balance for me as a reader - fun characters, interesting story, unusual twists and turns, the charm and eccentricity of southern Savannah plays so well as a backdrop and almost plays a role as an additional character too and the cozy mystery ends happily (except for the villain) leading to the next Garlucci saga, which makes for an absolutely worthwhile read
Another story in the Savannah Series, book ten. Carlita Galucci and her daughter Mercedes traveled south to Savannah, to escape the mob! After the passing of Carlita's husband, who asked on his deathbed, to get his boys out of the mob. There are three boys and the daughter. They inherited some property in Georgia, along with a bag of precious gems. They knew nothing of life other then being in the mob family, and they had to learn fast to care for themselves. Not even how to drive a car, they have made a life in Savannah. An apartment building with a pawn shop, soon to open an authentic Italian restaurant, and her friends want Carlita to become a silent partner in a pirate ship adventure. Each book has a death and a mystery to solve, and this one won't let you down. Once again Hope Callaghan comes through with a good, clean, and funny adventure, that will delight the reader.
Carlita and Mercedes are at it again. This time around Carlita gets the opportunity to be a silent partner in a Pirate Ship business venture with Pirate Pete and Tori, but after jumping at the chance, a competitor has a few incidents and the blame is put on Pirate Pete. Now it is up to Carlita and Mercedes to find out who started the mysterious fire on the Mystic Dream and who left its owner Lawson Bates in a coma.
What I love about the Made in Savannah series are the characters. Hope Callaghan has a way of adding such dimension to them; they are people that you wish you had the chance to know. Like other books in this series, the plot is very well thought out, there are a few red herrings to make you think twice about whodunnit, and the main characters are humorous and truly amateur sleuths. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
As always, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love this author and I am looking forward to another book in the series, when it is released. Carlita was asked to invest in a new venture with Victoria Montgomery and Pirate Pete, which she does. It is a pirate ship adventure. Day trips with sword fights etc would be the theme. Unfortunately the owner of an oposition business, a river cruising ship, didn't want the competition. He tried all sorts to stop it from going ahead. Then things started going wrong with him and his boat and the authorities are looking at Pirate Pete as the culprit. Carlita and Mercedes have to help clear Pete's name and save the new business in which she has invested.
Carlotta Garlucci owner of the Savannah Swag pawn shop, rents apartments and is going to open a restaurant was asked to go into a partnership by posting money for a new adventure called the Pirate Ship by Pirate Pete. Another business owner was found beaten up and in a coma after arguing with other business owners that were already under the suspicion of setting fire to his restaurant. Carlotta and her daughter Mersades get involved trying to find the real person that did this. As usual they get into situations with their friend August. Another good clean read.
I love this series and especially everything Carlita and Mercedes gets into. This case is no different. Carlita is looking into adding another business to her already full plate. Pirate Pete is asking her to be a partner, but when all fingers point to him being the bad guy, will she lose her huge investment? I was blessed with this book for free via the author and my review is of my own free will.
Carolina is almost ready to open her restaurant, but there is yet another mystery to solve, involving a new business with Pirate Pet.
A new tenant, Mercedes denies being attractive to, a new investment in Pirate ship, all this and Carolina is almost ready to open her restaurant. More interesting stories about Savannah and a mysterious fire on the gambling ship, make an interesting read.
This is a fun series of books. In this book, Carlita and Mercedes are trying to figure out who attacked a local business owner. Finding the attacker is critical so they can get their newest business venture moving ahead. A nice easy read that will keep you entertained from start to finish, and an amusing parrot is an added bonus.
I found this book a bit hard to get into but kept reading. It got better and ended up being a great cozy mystery. There were so many people who could have been the attacker. There are many twists and turns. I recommend this book, even though it was a bit hard to get into .
Carlita finds herself in the middle of another mystery after being asked to embark on another business venture with Pete and Tori. The possible suspects are numerous but Carlita and Mercedes figure it out in their fun way. This was an enjoyable read!
First time reading this series and this Author. Picked this book for 'pirate' reading challenges, and I'm so glad to found this book. Loveable characters and plenty red herrings to solve the mystery. The story just flow smoothly and easy to read. There's no graphic violent, sex or adult language, just pure entertainment.
Hope Callaghan weaves new quirky characters, a Pirate theme, Parrot Gunner discourse, real life interaction between mother Carlita and daughter Mercedes and Savannah tourist destinations into a fun cozy mystery. Annoying Elvira Cobb also makes a reappearance. Fun summer nautical read.
The Carlinos are once again investigating something shady. Carlita is in danger of losing her investment when her partners are under suspicion in an add-on and assault case. Peppered with humor and quirky characters, this tale is fun and fast moving
Another great mystery, adding new opportunities for the family.
A new tenant moves in that the family discovers is an ex-police officer. Carlita receives a business opportunity that ends up bringing a serious mystery that they must solve to save her investment and friends.
I love the characters and the setting in Savannah for this series. This was a great little break from everyday life and enjoyed the storyline too! Pretty light-hearted and easy to read.
This book did not disappoint. This series is definitely the best series ever! You start reading and you want to keep reading to see what they get into next. I highly recommend this series to everyone who loves cozy mysteries. This series will not disappoint!
A great story about pirates, riverboat captains and crooked politicians. What's not to like about this story. Carlita and Mercedes go all out to solve this one.
Another great mystery solved by Mercedes and Carlita. It took someserious investigating and. boarding the ship illegally, but it paid off. Can't waitfor the next mystery. Enjoy.
Carlita and Mercedes team up to solve another mystery. I loved the suspense, storyline and all the characters. This book is recommended for cozy mystery lovers.

The mother/daughter team strikes again. Friends are in need of help again and the ladies get involved to help them and to save $25,000 of their own money.
I have enjoyed all the books in this series but this one fell a little flat. I gave it five stars because I really like the series but I think this book was rushed through.
