Police are baffled when a number of professionals around North Carolina’s booming Research Triangle Park suddenly begin vanishing without a trace. A newspaper reporter and his detective friend from childhood eventually uncover the shocking truth in a tale of insanity, obsession, and murder. “Yard of the Month” stretches from the distant killing fields of Gettysburg all the way to the blistering sands of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

A mix of military issues, social issues, US history, and murder. Descriptive prose builds pictures of the key characters, likeable or unlikeable with an underlying creepiness. The character that is a newspaper reporter in North Carolina, and the underlying news angle with mention of familiar places, kept me moving through the story.
Probably could be a 5 rating, except I'm not usually partial to military / historical books.
I was intrigued by this book being from the area. All it was was throwing out names of streets and people. You know the ‘twist’ from the beginning so there was no suspense. And you never really felt connected to the characters. At least it read fast.
