Suddenly Yasmin finds it isn't Tristan walking her dreams at night, it's Luke . . . and maybe he has some magick of his own. Catch up with the Goodmans-a family of eighth generation witches living in L.A. Follow them from Hollywood Boulevard to the beach, from heartbreak to true love. Can be read as a standalone. This series has real emotion, hard won happy endings, and smoking hot romance.

I originally marked this DNF but didn’t remove from my kindle and forgot about it. Then tried it again.
So Yasmin asks the universe for her true love to find her and it does in a manner of a gang initiation and a cop saving her bacon sorta. Anyway they like each other a lot but it’s a professional relationship and he’s catholic and she’s a witch. 🙄
Here’s what I didn’t like: questionable consent. Like yeah. It’s not good even if it happened during many dreams. A bunch of info dumping exposition. Like the last quarter of the book was all of that and really boring. Questionable editing.
I read this to pass time until I fell asleep. I didn’t enjoy it.
This is 2nd in the series, but you don't necessarily have to read the first book. Characters from the 1st book do make appearances.
This story takes place in LA. The heroine is a witch, but the hero is not, although he does have a unique ability. The heroine is in danger from gang members. The hero is a cop.
So, I liked the heroine. Although she's been in love with her boss for years & she's a witch, she knows better than to try to use a love spell on him. For one, he's a more powerful witch than her & two as a Wiccan she knows the ways of the universe & love spells are not the answer. So she spells for her true love to come to her & she gets our hero. The hero is a good guy too & they both fall for each other after the heroine is almost killed by gang members. The gang member angle is kind of unrealistic & the whole court chapter is DEFINATELY unrealistic. I just went with it.
What I didn't like is her boss, Tristan. He knows she's in love with him & the love is not reciprocated. That's fine. But, his valued employee is in danger & is almost killed TWICE. He could care less. "Oh, are you all right? Good!" You would think he'd be a little more concerned. Unfortunately, his book is next. Sigh....
I really enjoy Savannah's writing. The characters are fully realized. Yasmin drove me nuts that she didn't get that Luke was what she magicked into her life. Luke is super sexy with all of his colors. Its nice to have a hero not afraid to wear something more than black.
My biggest issue with these books is they are binge-able, and I have a hard time putting them down for things like sleep and work
I loved the spin this book took. Other books talk about witches from long bloodlines discovering their powers... blah blah blah. It's an overdone genre. This, however, offered something far more realistic; a real woman finding her way into the craft and learning as she goes. Furthermore, I loved the representation! A Middle Eastern woman and a mixed-race relationship. I saw so much of myself in Yasmin and absolutely fell in love with Luke.
Yasmin is having her 2 young nieces visit and during an outing to a grocery store, she becomes a target in a gang initiation and only just manages to protect herself using her magick. LA Detective Luke Salzone is right behind her coming out of the store and becomes not only a witness in the attempted murder, but also her paid protection against future attempts. There is more going on than first meets his eye and there are certainly some vibes between the two.
Yasmin & Luke are a beautiful couple that didn't even realize it yet. A love spell gone wrong - so she thinks and a gang initiation task in LA puts Detective Luciero Salzone wanting to protect Yasmin Ali from the multiple attempts at her life. He even takes a bullet for her and gets his dream career. The Salzone family is chaotic and fun and easy to imagine with the weekly Sunday dinners.

I really enjoyed this story. It had humour, feelings, and just the right amount of suspense. The characters were likable and the plot was good. A nice amount of magic in this paranormal romance.
