I have been doing a re-read of all of Trevor Ferguson's novels Jan/Feb 2022 beginning with his John Farrow works. I had never read Onyx John before, though, as the copy I own is in French. And, despite me being at ease speaking French, I have never undertaken reading a 390 page Roman, en français. So, I tackled it, and enjoyed it immensely!

This is the memoir of Onyx John, the son of a free spirit and an alchemist. A story of passion, and compassion, from rags to riches and ultimately greed. The happenstance when evil moves into your home, onto your street and into your lives, luring you into the delights of money, then making toxic everything it touches. Some unsettling scenes, but apropos for the eras.

Set in the 50's, 60's and 70's, there hard times and fun times and laughs, living some wild and crazy lifestyles from free love and hippies, to the filthy rich, of love and lust, prostitution and promiscuousness, from growing up on the wrong side of the tracks to getting on the wrong side of a bad man. This is the rise and fall of Onyx John.
