This wonderfully silly story from Emma Pullar is the first in the Rupert's Reads children's picture books. Illustrated by Emma's incredibly talented 12 year old daughter Beth, Kitty Stuck will delight the imagination of the youngest of book and cat lovers. Written in rhyme with bright and cheerful illustrations this book is suitable for pre-school and primary school aged readers.
Kitty is a calamitous cat who finds himself in some rather sticky situations. Fortunately, his loving family are always close on hand to help him unstuck.
Kitty keeps getting stuck – in all kinds of places.
Oh, I loved this picture book for children and in fact I only have one complaint about it – the marketing says it is for children aged 0-7. Huh! I don’t see why they should have it! Kitty Stuck would make a fantastic present for cat lovers of all ages. I thought it was just wonderful. I especially liked the image of Kitty stuck in a bowl!
However, given that this IS a book for children, I’d better make some comments about it with that in mind.
Firstly, I think the pictures are stunning. They are funny and engaging, bright and vibrant. The expressions on Kitty’s face are so evocative of Kitty’s feelings that they really entertain. I found them joyous and uplifting and they often made me laugh. I loved the added extra of trying to find an image where Mouse is missing so that reading Kitty Stuck is an interactive experience too. There’s just enough extra detail in the pictures (such as the question mark by Mouse when Kitty is hiding) to allow discussion between adult and child too. I appreciated the fact that this seems to be a multi-ethnic family too as encouraging diversity is so important in a child’s formative years.
The balance of text to image is perfect and the cursive style is naive enough to appeal to children whilst still being totally legible so that independent readers can access it. I liked the variety of vocabulary and the rhyme scheme that works so well. Again, words like ‘box’ and ‘socks’ afford an educational opportunity for older children to find out about homophones, homonyms and rhyme.
Kitty Stuck is a really lovely book for children (and adults) that is accessible, educational and totally, totally enjoyable. I cannot recommend it highly enough. https://lindasbookbag.com/2018/08/06/...
My 3 year old granddaughter loved this book! I read it to her a few times, by which time she managed to join in and repeat most of it with me. She loved the little mouse, and this added an extra dimension of interest to the story. Kitty managed to get a lot of giggles from her, and we had fun enjoying our special reading time together. Loved the opportunity of reading this, and loved the illustrations too.
This book is clever, funny and incredibly entertaining. Having a cat and a kitten I can relate quite well to the story and the illustrations, which are both beautiful and striking. I've read it with both my girls and they asked to read it again and again. I think I'm going to have to order a physical copy for the bookshelf. I can see it becoming a firm bedtime favourite in our house!
This was I book we reviewed with my 3 year old granddaughter. The positives..... we read it to her once then she read it to us, turning the pages and reciting the story nearly word for word. It had lovely illustrations and some humour which was a little above her. The negative..... It was read once or twice then another book fetched . Unfortunately I don't think it grabbed her enough to make it onto the "favourite" shelves. Thanks for the opportunity to review this.
This is a lovely book! It has some very cute images and my daughter absolutely loved them! She is really getting in to books at the moment and brings me one every night to read to her.
I cannot wait to read this to her again and whilst she is only one, she was clapping her hands and getting excited and giggling when it was read to her and she was pointing at the pictures of the Kitty – we read to her a lot and honestly that doesn’t always happen, she can be a tough audience, so this one was definitely a hit from the target audience!
As a mum I thought the story as great, easy to follow and it will really help her learn to read, it had a very enjoyable story and I will be highly recommending it – 5 stars from Ava and I!
As a cat lover and a brand-new grandma, it was a no-brainer that I would read this book!
Kitty Stuck is a delightful tale of a cat who gets into all sorts of bother, exactly the way that cats do. Luckily his family can help get him unstuck :)
I loved the situations he got himself into, the expressions on his face were so funny and I loved the inclusion of the mouse as well. Beth Puller should be commended on her illustrations for a (then) 12 year old, her talent is incredible and I predict she will go far in the world of graphic design/art.
Looking forward to reading any other books that these two authors create.
This book is an absolutely fantastic read for younger children. The pages are bright and interesting. And makes it an even more enjoyable read. The sentences are short and easy to understand and my boys especially loved the game with the mouse. So all in all a thoroughly enjoyable read which me and me sons all highly recommend
A fun little book about a cat that gets stuck in all sorts of places and needs to be rescued. Featuring simple text and sweet little pictures of the kitty and his escapades. My 2.5 year old laughs every time we read it.
I picked up this book to glance through it. What a delightful book. Emma Pullar and her daughter have done a brilliant job. This is a talented family, and I expect good things to follow.
