Luke and Julie have a past one month of hot sex about 2 years ago and now Lauren Julies's best friend is marrying Luke's brother Royce. They both get stranded in Chicago days before the wedding by a snow storm.

This starts off a thrill ride of suspense who killed the Judge's wife? Why are they after Julie? What's in the journal? Who is Dragonfly? (I guessed correctly). The romance between Luke and Julie is hot, Luke is sweet but can be bossy in the bedroom. The Walker brothers work together to save Julie and figure out who's who in the journal.

Blake's story next.

The second book in Lisa Renee Jones' Tall, Dark & Deadly series. Julie Harrison, best friend of Lauren from Hot Secrets, book 1 in this series, is a divorce lawyer who finds herself in danger when the wife of one of her clients commits suicide. Luke Walker is a man that Julie knew in the past and still has feelings. Luke is an ex-Navy SEAL that got out to join his brothers at Walker Securities. He, too, has never gotten over her.

I liked this better than the previous books in the series but it wasn't amazing or anything. Barely four stars for me. The ending was a disappointment. I thought it would be a little more drawn out but it was too short.

Love it - this is the second book in the second of the Walker Brothers. Talk about hot sexy alphas!!

This is a second chance romance where they had spent sometime together but Luke was a SEAL but isn't any more so now it is convincing Julie to give what they have a go while so dangerous stuff going on!

The couple: Luke and Julie

Romance trope: romantic suspense; second chance
Series: Tall, Dark & Deadly
Length: 229 pages

Plot: Luke and Julie had a hot fling a while back when Luke was still a Navy SEAL. He went back to his service and Julie accepted that it was just a pleasant interlude. But he's back for good now and the spark is still there, if she's willing to give it a second chance.

Commentary: I think I liked this book best of the three brothers' stories. Luke seemed the most reasonable (still caveman and unyielding at times) of the lot and he already had a relationship with Julie so there wasn't the unbelievability of the insta-love like there was in the others. The mystery was interesting - who killed the wife and why - and while I wish we had a little more information about Julie's background, she was still fairly likable. With respect to her family, I feel like that was a conversation she had already had with Luke and we came in in the middle of it and nobody caught us up. Her mom was famous? A singer or actress maybe? Her dad wasn't around? Ever or left when she was little? At one point I thought she was in foster care but she had a family but she said she was all alone and only had Lauren, so I don't know.

Previous book in the series: Hot Secrets
Next book in the series: Beneath the Secrets

This like the previous Walker brother book was a nice story. I'd also give it 3.5 stars. The story was interesting and I liked the characters.
Julie was divorce attorney and had some powerful and famous clients. She has no family and it hesitant about relationship commitments. She's smart, beautiful, caring, feisty and strong. Luke is strong, sexy, protective and funny. He is an ex-Navy SEAL. He and his brothers opened a security firm where he works now.
Luke and Julie had a month long fling when he was on a brief leave from the Navy that was based on sex only, or so they thought, since Luke had to go back to duty. No other man or woman ever compared in the two years that they have been apart and now that Luke has left the SEALs and is back for good he wants Julie. He wants to show her that what they had was more than sex and that he truly cares for her.
Julie is in the middle of a high profile divorce representing a Judge. His wife comes to warn Julie that he is into some shady work and she ends up dead and now Julie is involved and scared for her life. Luke and his brothers, Royce and Blake are doing everything they can to keep her safe but it's difficult when people are targeting them and others are being killed.
Meanwhile Julie and Luke continue having a relationship that grows into something more because they fall in love with each other but Julie has a hard time coming to terms with her feelings.
Things get heated with everything and everyone that are after them but when their suspects escape they have no choice but to sit and wait and see what happens from there on.
Finally Julie and Luke tell each other they are in love and they get their HEA which was nice to see because they make a nice couple and were made for each other. Their chemistry was strong and they were really hot together.
Like the previous story, it sometimes fell flat for me, I think it was the dialogue, but it was enjoyable either way.
Now I'm on to the next Walker brother story to see who can crack Blake's heart open after his fiancé was murdered by a drug cartel years ago.

Luke gets his chance to finally show Julie there's more to him than love'em and leave'em. Julie took a chance and let down her guards once with this man. Now she has a chance again to feel the freedom of having it all. She just don't know if it will turn in to more and she's not sure if she wants to take that chance and see where things go. Having things move closer and time become limited. They both find that the other means so much more than just the here and now. Julie finds that her latest divorce case me be more than she can handle but of course she will not let other see that. Good thing that Luke is there along with the others of Walker Security.

I must say that I did enjoy the story. I could have loved it, if I would have had some more answers to questions. There were some characters there and then not. There were so events that took place but then they were over. I just wanted a bit more.

Luke and Julie come to life with the vocal performance from Eric Michael. He does the job for me. He makes me feel as if I am right her for it all. The smooth timber he provides our male characters makes this wonderful. I could feel the strength of his voice. The recording was smooth and clear. I was able to listen at my preferred speed with no issues at all.

I really liked this one but there was something missing...what I'm not sure maybe it just seemed rushed or not finished. Julie is a divorce attorney and one of her clients is a judge but the judge's wife has come to her office with an ominous decree or warning. She has secrets and so does the judge and when she lets the judge know his wife visited him he is not surprised or was he but then she commits suicide or did she. Questions galore. Luke Walker, one of the Walker brothers, and Julie had an affair years before when he was still in the SEALs but there are still underlying feelings. Danger and intrigue bring them together but chemistry keeps them going. This was great and I am looking forward to more in this series.

This one was a bit better than the first one. I liked that Julie and Luke had a past, liked that they addressed it and that Luke was willing to jump in when Julie's life spun a bit out of control. I found myself laughing at the end when Julie had to act out of character to lure in the bad guys. You could tell that she was uncomfortable with the situation, yet Luke seemed to sort of like it and tease her about it.

I feel like most people are embarrassed say they read these kind of books. I know sometimes I get that way. Disclaimer rated R. #obviously

Book 2 is about Lauren's best friend and baby brother of the Walker boys. They had history. Now their lives had collided again when Julie is caught up in a bad divorce case she's representing. This one has more action in it. But it was left a little unresolved! I want to know some things that weren't given to me....

Second book in the Tall, Dark and Deadly Series...The romance was hot, has lots of suspense, with a good plot. It's missing detail to me. That's a bit disappointing. I've not read the first one yet, but will soon. This copy given in exchange for an honest review.

Overview

Being a divorce attorney for the rich and famous isn't all it's cracked up to be. Julie Harrison has learned that love doesn't last, and she's sworn never to make the same mistakes as her mother, or her clients. She uses the games men play to keep them at a distance. The only man who managed to break down her walls was Luke Walker, a Navy SEAL who loved her and left her, and changed her forever.

When Luke arrives back in New York, running Walker Security with his brothers and having left his Navy SEAL days behind, he sets his sights on Julie, the woman he's always wanted and couldn't have. Except, she runs from him every time he gets close.

But now, one of Julie's clients, a powerful judge, gets involved with a dangerous cartel, and his soon-to-be-ex-wife ends up dead. Julie's next on the list, and she finds herself on the run from those who believe she knows too much, and counting on Luke to keep her alive. In the deepest, darkest moments of the night, passion will bring them together while danger threatens to tear them apart. Can Julie and Luke trust each other and find their happy ending before they find ... the end?

My Thoughts

I don't know how i managed to forget to finish this series - it's definitely one of my favs - especially since Ms Lisa Renee Jones is a favorite of mine. So, here we are, back with the hot and sexy Walker brothers, and it's nice to see that we get to have Luke's bit of things. The nice thing here as well is that there's a history between Luke and Julie - and it's a history that actually left the door open, so when they reunite again, on delayed flights in chicago, you know that it's going to be hot.

Where this story takes us is on a roller coaster. It's not just wondering if Julie and Luke can make their 2nd chance work, but there's also a life an death situation because of something that Julie's been sucked into - through one of her clients. She's representing a judge for a divorce case, and things are getting dicey - the wife reveals that there's something dark and dirty with the art that the judge collects, and then she's found dead, and we see that there's so much more to the story than what we originally thought.

A cartel is involved, some mysterious french guys are at the helm, and we don't know how deep the judge is in, and why now Julie's being targeted.

The bulk of the story that we have is determining whether Luke will allow Julie to help because she's able and then of Julie allowing Luke to take control. In true fashion of our author, we see that there's some incredibly steamy control happening, both in and out of the bedroom and it's hot. i can't help but get sucked in again and again, just like we did with Royce and Lauren as well as what we see in all her series.

Now i can't wait to see what comes next with Blake's 3rd installment since i feel like he's the one that's most troubled and finding a potentially happy place for him would bring this series to a great ending point.

DANGEROUS SECRETS (Tall Dark and Deadly #2) by Lisa Renee Jones

DANGEROUS SECRETS is the second storyline (April 2012 release) in Lisa Renee Jones contemporary romance Tall, Dark and Deadly series featuring the brooding and smexy Walker brothers of Walker Security. This is Luke’s story.

Julie Harrison is a Chicago divorce attorney with big name clients. Hoping to make a quick flight to her friend’s wedding, Julie would suddenly be confronted with her client’s soon to be ex-wife and a secret that could get them both killed. With her flight cancelled, Julie checked into the recommended hotel only to find Luke Walker-former Navy SEAL and lover in the room next to hers. What a coincidence since her best friend Lauren was marrying Luke’s brother Royce.

Luke Walker still had it bad for Julie. Finding her at the airport was a stroke of luck but hearing her story that a client’s secrets could have potential ramifications not just for her client but her life, had Luke calling in Walker Security to track down some leads. But a phone call to Julie would find that her client’s wife was dead and a surprise would await Julie at the funeral. Her client’s wife had a sister and she wanted to hire Walker Securities to investigate the death.

Luke and Julie had never really said goodbye. Before his last deployment, he and Julie were an item, but on his return from active duty, he found himself trying to hold things together with his brother Blake who had recently lost his fiancé to an armed attack. Finding Julie again, was a sign that they were meant to be. And he was going to get her back. But every step of the way he seemed to do something wrong.

ATF, DEA and an assortment of government departments were all involved in the investigation. A money laundering Cartel involved in stolen art could be linked directly back to Julie’s client and she and Luke had become a bigger target with the information that had been handed directly to them. Blackmail, betrayal and bribery were all part of the game, and too soon, the faces of the players would become all too familiar.

DANGEROUS SECRETS is another fast paced and fascinating storyline from Lisa Renee Jones. There are some interesting twists and although there is a HEA, there is still some room for another storyline.

This book took me a little long to get through and I can only guess it’s because I couldn’t connect to the characters. The thing is I really liked the first book in this series and in ‘Hot Secrets’ I liked Julie’s character and I was curious about Luke.

I felt like Julie was way too confused and all over the place. I like Luke well enough, but he felt a little flat for me, there wasn’t a lot of depth to this super sexy, super strong SEAL, I wanted more out of him.

The formatting was an issue on the Kindle addition as well as a few editing issues, I understand editing issues happen they happen in my own books, but I just want others to be aware of them; there were missing page breaks, a lot of end quotations at the beginning of the sentence, randomly placed backslashes, this is not only a formatting issue but and editing issue, there were numerous sentence that had words missing—a and the are important.

I get what a lot of others were saying about the ending it felt like it kind of just hit you in the face, all of a sudden Julie was at the subway, then Royce was there too with no explanation.

I wasn’t really sure what Gina’s character brought to the story she felt a bit like a page filler, the story would have progressed just fine without her, then there was the man in elevator . . . who was he? Did I miss his significance?

Finally and this is probably why I rated this book as I did was that someone should have caught the mistakes that were made with some of the character names; at one point someone refers to Julie as Ms. Moore her last name is Harrison. Then there’s Blake’s murdered fiancée first she’s referred to as Sara then Rebecca these are mistakes that drive me crazy, know your characters.

I will say that I am still a fan of Lisa Renee Jones and I will absolutely read Blake’s story as he’s the one brother I’ve been truly curious about since ‘Hot Secrets’

Second in the "Tall, Dark, & Deadly" series. Yes, I profess I am a bad girl for reading this out of order. HOWEVER, the lack did not hinder the reading of Dangerous Secrets.

FYI - The series is aptly named. The Walker brothers are definitely "tall, dark and deadly."

Reunion book - which normally I do not like. There are a few that sneak up on me. Jones gave glimpses through either Luke or Julie on their past little fling.

Nice role reversal. Instead of the woman knowing she "loves" the man and intending for him to "realize" his feelings. The roles are reversed. It is Luke who knows he loves Julie and intending to show her that she loves him.

Luke is your Alpha male. He's hard. He is protective. Especilly when it comes to his woman!

Julie - She is use to being on her own. Now family really to speak of. So it's hard for her to see Luke with his family, seeing what she missed out in her childhood.

The story had enough action to keep a reader gripped. Though I wonder if this is the last we seen of the villian or will he appear in future books.

And Blake, if he will get a story down the line.

Overall opinion: 3 Stars

Good storyline that was also overwhelmed by constant self-doubt, 20 seconds to 140 seconds of head babel every time a question was asked, statement made or situation encountered and TSTL moments.

The H was the typical dominant male with a soft side and possessive streak while the h was something else. The H is overly loaded with self-doubt and indecision which is a typical for a Special Forces member. The TSTL moments are numerous. The h is a very successful attorney but does not come across as such.

Brief Summary: No need to expand on the author's summary.

Narrator(s) - 6/10

POV: multiple

Overall Pace: moderate

Instalove: Yup

H Rating: 7/10

h Rating: 6/10

Sad/happy/thrill/Angst/TSTL - Too much TSTL

Heat Level: 6/10

Descriptive Sex: 7/10

OW/OM Drama: Some

Sex with OW/OM: no

Cheating: no

Separation: some

Triggers: common sense

Closure (HEA/HFN/Cliffhanger): HEA

I like this author, recently read If I Were You and rather than waiting for the second book in the series to be released I went in search of more from Jones. It was a quick and easy read, but it didn't have the character development that If I Were You had. Also there are several editing mistakes and at parts the story seemed choppy and rushed, especially at the end. And some of the secondary characters didn't provide enough substance to the story to be worthwhile (Gina, the strange guy that popped up at the hotel and back in NY, Diana just sort of went away...).

All in all, I like the underlying story and because the books have been a fun and easy read, I'll read the 3rd book just to tie a big red bow on the series. But I don't expect it to leave me wanting more like Jones has done with If I Were You.

Same old storyline with nothing new which is basically the way all romance suspense novels are. Heroine in need of saving from the bad guys. Hero being all macho and wanting to save her.
Needs to be edited more properly since there were a few typing errors and sentences that made no sense. No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t figure out what those messed up sentences were trying to convey.
Also what happens to Marco and Arel? They along with their operations cannot just disappear. That’s a loose end in this book that did not get any closure.
Kinda disappointed nevertheless I will be reading Blake’s story since I want to end the series.

Really badly written -- could qualify for a bad movie on the Lifetime Channel. The plot is contrived and the hero and the heroine are cardboard stereotypes. The heroine is a superstar divorce attorney, but in her practice she commits ethical violations that would bring her public reprimands from the bar association. At 50%, I still hadn't gotten into the story so I quit.

Though I have found errors throughout this series, I fell in love with the characters and the plot. Some people may say that it is a guessable plot and that there's not a lot to it, but I thoroughly enjoyed each of the 3 books I have read that tie back to each other. I would absolutely recommend this for anyone who liked 50 Shades of Grey! :)

This one picks up pretty much at the end of Hot Secrets. I think I liked this couple more than the first couple. I loved their chemistry and love watching them finally give in to their feelings. The mystery was engaging. One of the things I also like about this series is the relationship between the brothers. I look forward to the last book in the series

This was a strong 3.5 star read. Had a bit of suspense, attractive alpha male, strong independent female. Just was a short novel and only scratched the surface in a lot of places. Well written and good steamy scenes, liked possessiveness of male, but lukewarm in end.

Ok I got about 60% in and decided to DNF it. There is definitely a formula here. Insta-love. Damsel in distress protected by alpha male. I get it. I don’t do the conflicted damsel thing though.
