Space station security specialist Sam has done one thing since her abduction by alien slavers… fight to survive. But now one strong alien gladiator stands at her side and Sam knows she is no longer alone.

Thrust into a lawless desert arena, Sam Santos has done terrible things in order to stay alive. As the Champion of Zaabha, she’s been fighting to find a way out. Everything changes when the Imperator of the House of Galen sacrifices his freedom to help her. The hard-bodied, fierce man has vowed to help her escape, but getting out of Zaabha is only the first deadly task they face.

Galen was bred to be a royal bodyguard and protect his prince. With his planet now destroyed, he’s grown powerful and forged his wealthy gladiatorial House on the desert planet of Carthago. All Galen knows is honor, service, and sacrifice. Now his life depends on working with one battle-hardened woman of Earth as they fight together to survive. But Sam Santos is not what he expected. Tough, yes. A brilliant fighter, for sure. But there is a softer side to the woman as well. And Galen finds himself irrevocably drawn to all of Sam’s captivating facets.

Then they uncover a devious plot by the Thraxians that could bring down the foundations of the Kor Magna Arena and all they hold dear. Galen and Sam will stop at nothing to defeat the evil alien slavers, even if it means war. In amongst the fighting, Sam may finally show a man who lives for everyone else, that he deserves more than just honor and freedom, but love as well… if they survive the coming battle.

This is the final book in the Galactic Gladiators series and it was a fitting ending where, at the end, each gladiotor had a small cameo!

I loved how Galen and Sam fit! They're just perfect for each other!

I also appreciated that there was not angst, even if there were some of "I'm not good for you" stuff! But it was all Galen's and it was brief, thank God!

Sam, on the other hand knew Galen was it for her and she let Galen knew that she wouldn't let him wallow in self pity! I loved her!

The action is very fast, full of fights and hot love scenes. I would have preferred if it was a little bit longer, but it was good!

Imperator Galen mounted a rescue mission to free Sam Santos, imprisoned on Zaabha, only to land up being a prisoner himself. Forced to survive endless 'fight to the death' combats in the Zaabha arena, Galen knows it will take a miracle to escape. All he can do is keep fighting until something materializes, if it does

Sam Santos is the current Champion of Zaabha but knows it would only take one fight to end her winning streak, and her life. A glimmer of hope arises when House Galen attempts to rescue her. A hope dashed when the Imperator himself is captured and is now a feature attraction in life or death combat bouts for the entertainment of the spectators. One way or another she needs to do something before Galen falls.

Escaping Zaabha will be the easy part when the devious plans the Thraxians have for Kor Magna is exposed. The only possible way to defeat the Thraxians will require all the Houses to unite, a remote possibility at best as the Houses have their own personal agendas and alliances.

This is the 11th and final installment in the "Galactic Gladiator" series marking an end to the series... or is it?

The author saved the best for last (character) as most fans of the series have wanted Galen to have his own HEA if for no other reason than that he has sacrificed so much personally and deserves it. The series would not be complete otherwise.

The main characters. Sam and Galen are a match in both personality and combat skills. Nothing says love more than grabbing a sword or dagger or whatever to work out a couple's personal problems. Just think, arguments over not picking up one's socks - sword fight until first blood; forget to pick up milk - wrestling until submission. Ahhhh the possibilities. lol

The romance aspects do include adult content erotica that has a sensual slant. A good read for any fantasies a reader might have wondering if gladiators really do have a romantic core or not, and if they really know how to wield..... their sword.

Secondary characters basically include all the characters from previous installments. Won't include or do any shout outs as fans already have their favs so it's just a matter of appreciating one last chance to bask in their presence. Or is it?

Any issues I have deal with more the fact that the author has found a way to extend this series. That means no final closure, which is good and bad depending. Potential readers will have to read this book to find out how that's possible and what direction the series will go in to find out what the author has up her sleeves.

Basically this is a must read for any fans of the series. While I had a few personal problematic feelings, it's just not worth mentioning as the author gave me closure and Galen. The author has found a way to extend the series so now it's just a matter of choice by readers: read up to this installment as it concludes the core characters involved from the start... or ... know that there will be more from our galactic gladiators to look forward to

No one can be more perfect for each other than this couple in this series!

Both side, have a strong personality, always in charge and caring to others under their wings!
So, Galen and Samantha really deserved for each other! ❤️

Okay ladies, this series had been a nice surprise for me.
Very entertaining and each book just enough pages for a quick read, when I don’t want to get headaches by a book.

No grumpiness in me while reading this series, all good! 😁
Oh, it’s available on KU too.
There you go, read it if you like Hot Alien Heroes, and off to outer space sometimes! 😂😜

**re-read- 10-2021 I didn't like it as much this time around, but I'm going to keep my rating because I was quite tired when I read this, and the last time around I had read much of the series, so I was probably more invested in the characters. I still think it's probably the best of the series, and I still loved both the mc's and their support for each other. But it probably won't stand as a rounded up 5 on it's own.

4.5 Drakking Stars
**My rating is for the genre (action sci-fi smut) not for overall literary greatness.**

Imperator is Galen’s book, and IMO she saved the best for last. It’s rare that we get two strong, supportive mc’s that aren’t stupid, bitchy or an asshole. Well folks, enjoy it because I can’t think of one thing to criticize. (other than a lack of epilogue 😊)

“I’ll be your shield, your protector, your champion. Wherever you need me, I’ll stand beside you, behind you, or kneel at your feet. Whatever you need.”

Galen has been my favorite character since Gladiator. He was Raiden’s royal bodyguard and saved him when their planet was destroyed. He built the House of Galen for Raiden, so he would have a place to be safe. He’s also the glue that holds the entire group together, and is always putting others before himself. My guess is he’s pushing 40, because I believe Raiden is 35-ish, and he has graying at his temples. I just can’t say enough great things about him, and I had my 🤞 that he’d get a female worthy of his awesomeness… and A.H. delivered.

Sam was the captain of the Fortuna Station that the Thraxians destroyed. (Book 1) She’s been kept at the Zaabha Arena, and is their champion. IMO, she’s as close to a perfect h that we can get. She’s brave, but not stupid. Strong, but not bitchy. Unlike most of the other h’s, she’s smart about the rescue attempt, and knows they need a plan. She’s also a total badass, but still acts feminine when they aren’t in a battle. She’s basically a kickass warrior queen who can cook without being TSTL or annoying.

I skipped the Cyborg book, and I know I missed some of the story, but I caught up rather quickly. In the end of Guardian, Sam sacrifices her escape so Galen and crew can escape. He vows to return for her, and the rescue attempt must have gone wonky in Cyborg, because Galen stayed behind with her. The book opens with them both prisoners fighting to survive. The rest is their journey to take down the arena, and stop the Thraxians for good.

As awesome as they are individually, Galen and Sam are amazing as a couple. The level of support and respect they show each other was refreshing, and the balance of power was equal even with Galen being physically stronger. It really was pretty brilliant; Galen was still portrayed as an alpha without being bossy or weakening Sam. And, she was still portrayed as strong, without emasculating Galen. #Teamwork 👏👏👏

“So, you’re Galen’s latest rescue.” “Actually, she rescued me,” Galen said. “We rescued each other,” Sam said.

Bottom Line- I read a lot, and feel many times females are portrayed negatively… like I would never be friends with ¾ the women I read about. I don’t think authors purposely do this, but a lot of them struggle to balance strength with vulnerability. What we get are doormats/TSTL or aggressive harpies. It was really great to have a h that I respected, and I would totally be friends with Sam. I believe this is the end of the Galactic Guardians, and would have loved to get an epilogue of where the couples ended up, but we only got a small section from each H’s POV. I believe this is because she’s going to spinoff with the cyborgs in The House of Rone, and maybe our characters will make cameos, but I would have liked to get some closure. Eleven books is a lot for readers to take on, but they are free on KU, and I skipped around pretty easily. I would suggest reading Gladiator and Guardian before this one. (and maybe last couple of chapters of Cyborg)

What an absolute perfect ending to the House of Galen and its gladiators!

The ultimate alpha. The man who put all others and their happiness above his own. Savior of the weak. Dedicated, loyal, and no one with a higher sex appeal than Galen, Imperator of the House of Galen. No character has ever deserved a story more than this one. Galen has been a constant force through the entire series. We are finally given his back story which was very compelling. Reading the relationship between Galen and Sam evolve was mesmerizing. I truly did not want this story to end.

The Champion of Zaabha (the elusive illegal fighting arena), Sam, is the strongest mentally and physically heroine in the series. She is the female version of Galen which makes their story explosive! She sacrificed herself more than once by staying behind in Zaabha so other Earth women could be freed. Then Galen refused to leave her behind alone. He stayed at Zaabha with her. She was not alone anymore. This act of selfishness open her heart to Galen.

Superior storyline! I could not have been happier with how Hackett finished out this series. Loved how she had an insert from each hero at the end. This gives the fans of the series an idea of each couples future. This was a welcomed surprise.

Hate that I don't have another to start in this series *sigh*

Happy Reading! DD

An action-packed, passion-filled utterly enjoyable read.
I was waiting for the story of Strong, loyal, controlled, house of Galen Imperator’s since beginning. And it’s awesome. I am so glad Galen got his perfect match in brave fighter Samantha. The most fantastic moment in this book was when somany Imperator’s from other houses introduced not only because they supported Galen but.... well MORE BOOKS!
I can never get enough of this series and I’m eternally grateful that the author keeps on giving us more from this. I Love you Anna Hackett and please continue writing this awesome series.

I am still swooning here. Galen was totally worth the wait, Sam was amazing and am I shallow because I am still drooling over the cover's abs?

Best of All we are getting MORE! AH left it wide open for more abs, more adventures, more fights, more swoony love declarations and yes, MORE MANLY ABS!

Hurray! I am so happy Galen finally got his well deserved HEA and here is to many more Gladiator adventures.

Finally the book that fans of this series have been clamouring to read, Galens story . The Imperator has always played an integral part in these books as not only is he the sworn bodyguard of Raiden whose happy ending started this series but Galen has always shone as brave, fearless and honourable. Without his compassion and determination many would have led miserable lives and possibly even died on the harsh planet of Carthago . Having saved those he could Galen is left trapped on the floating arena known as Zaabha but he’s not the only one with the will to escape and bring down the cruel Thraxians . Also prisoner is the very human Sam who has survived this long so she’s definitely not giving up now !
Galen in many ways has been a man apart so it was so fun to read about him reaching out to Sam . The irony is they are both as stubborn as each other so getting them both to function together as a couple must have given the author a headache. Thankfully there’s enough action to keep the story moving along very quickly and Sam is never a shrinking violet and is in fact just as battle hardened and blood thirsty as any of the Gladiators.
I won’t ruin the story but will say that there are lovely cameos from favourite characters, hot loving along the way and even some sweetness too. Best of all though is that even though this feels as if it’s the end of this series the author has cunningly left the way open to go back should she want. I cannot quite believe that this is book eleven and I do think they are best read in order . I cannot think of another series that mixes alien Gladiators with such a believable storyline and recommend these books to those who want action, humour and of course romance.
This voluntary take is of an advance copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

When we last saw our band of gladiators they have mounted a rescue to get the last remaining humans out of Zaabha, a hellish and underground fighting arena. But, it didn't go quite as planned. Galen the Imperator of the House of Galen remained behind to protect Sam Santos. Sam is the last of the humans as well as the Champion of Zaabha. Together Galen and Sam must survive and escape Zaabha and they need to do it soon. The slavers who run it intend to take over the Kor Magna Arena and kill and enslave all their friends.

This is the last full length book in the Galactic Gladiators series and it ends on a high. We finally see the cool and in-control Galen meet the woman who can crack his self-imposed isolation. As usual with this series, it isn't a sedate walk through each others feelings. Instead it is a mad dash as they both survive only by relying on one another to stay alive.

I really enjoyed Sam and Galen as a couple, both were fierce warriors and protectors. Something we have witnessed countless times in this series, especially with Galen. So seeing them together left me doing a happy little jig. Galen holds himself apart from everyone, even as he takes care of them, so I loved seeing Sam bring out a softer side of him. And Galen was able to give Sam a safe place to mentally build herself back up again after months of hell surviving Zaabha. They were also really hot together, seeing Galen finally let loose was sexy as hell.

This was a great series, it was packed full of  action and adventure, steamy hot romance and some great characters. I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants their action fast paced and choc full of sexy gladiators - who doesn't want that?! And although this is the last book in this series, I have a feeling that this isn't the last we will see of the Kor Magna Arena.

Imperator (Galactic Gladiators, #11) immerses readers in a captivating sci-fi universe that masterfully weaves together an array of compelling elements. The narrative includes a diverse cast of bizarre creatures, skilled gladiators, kidnapped humans and harrowing trials that put characters to the ultimate test. The story unfolds with an intricate tapestry of secret plans, deep-rooted mysteries, intense action sequences, and the raw emotions of frustration, pain, and suffering, all interspersed with moments of unexpected romance.

The multi-perspective storytelling is a significant strength of this narrative, allowing readers to explore the inner thoughts and feelings of various characters. This depth enriches the overall experience, creating a more immersive and well-rounded story.

Life as a gladiator is portrayed as incredibly dark and perilous, where every moment is shadowed by deception and hidden agendas. It’s a brutal existence that not only challenges physical endurance but also tests the very limits of human spirit, shaping or dismantling the individuals who dare to fight for their survival.

If you are in search of a gripping and entertaining read that offers a blend of excitement and emotional depth, I highly recommend diving into this book.

I really liked the idea of this, and I liked the characters also --and can I say that little bit there at the end with the alternating POVs was super adorableness. However, I felt like everything happened too fast for me to feel too deeply about it. I didn't want them to continue to be slaves and forced to fight, but I wish there had been a bit more time in that cell together or something, or even out on the sand before they were found. Time for them to really develop some feelings . It wasn't bad, I just didn't really feel anything.

‘Imperator’ closes out Anna Hackett’s Galactic Gladiators series, or at least it’s the end…for now, until the next House gets its own story as a spin-off in the future.

Opening straight from the end of the last book (best to read them in order at least), Sam Santos’s and Galen’s story is one that Anna Hackett has been promising for a while. The fight agains the mortal enemy in this world comes to a head in this book and it’s an exciting one, though it did get loopy at times, as if Sam and Galen went round the merry-go-round getting free from the Thraxians, only to be captured again.

Sam, the former head of security on a space station, is as much as a gladiator and imposing warrior in her own right—I keep imagining a very sweaty Beyoncé dressed in tight leathers constantly holding a sword and knife for some reason—and a perfect match for Galen. Uber-capable, super tough, straight-shooting and determined, it’s easy to root for a strong female protagonist that you wish would always grace the pages of adventure romance books—eclipsing even the stoic and ever-in-control Galen who’d always scoffed in resignation about his gladiators falling for earth women.

I’ll admit that this isn’t quite the series that I’ve been salivating over, despite the rush of romance, adventure and iron-clad HEAs that are guaranteed in Hackett’s books. With the same formula of pairing women from earth with alien mates, the last-minute miraculous rescues and the survival against all odds that's found in all of the books, I'm guessing that I'm probably thirsting after some deviation...somehow, somewhere.

The world-building is nonetheless impressive—it’s why Hackett’s books primarily appeal, even if not always for the pairing for me at least—and the book’s easy enough to breeze through, which would make it a perfect escape for a couple of hours.

Reading is about escape. Its the chance to slip out of our own lives for a few hours and go on an adventure. Its about a break from the everyday to experience romance, danger, and intrigue. Its about new worlds and characters we want to know or maybe aspire to be like. To take that adventure requires a gifted storyteller. Anna Hackett gifts us with a glorious adventure every time we open one of her books. Her latest, the Imperator, brings her fans the long awaited story of Galen. Across the series, we catch glimpses into the man, leader, warrior and friend. With Anna's latest offering we finally get the whole man....and my oh my...what a man he is. To compliment Galen she creates her strongest female character to date. Samantha, like Galen, is strong, selfless, loyal and completely capable of rescuing herself and in the end, rescuing him. This is a not to be missed series.

What a disappointing, rushed conclusion to series. Or maybe I just assume its conclusion, after all author left an opening for more books to come. Let's just hope she will not again stick to the same overused pattern she heavily abused in this series.
Let me sum this book up. Galen and Sam escape, fall in love, near death experience, sex scenes, rushed unprepared attack on Thraxonians, near death experience, happily ever after. Same pattern, same problems for characters, same love story, same idiotic rescue/attack mission. Gladiators are obviously incapable of learning from mistakes and evolving. Same forgetfulness to use skills and inventions of previous books. No brain, all brawn. Yeah. Thankfully, its over and if anything will ever gets published in these series, I probably need a big space to completely forget the pattern and to be able to enjoy another story again.
My recommendation still stands-read first and last(11th so far) book in series and you are good. Between those two books, it sums up everything.

Big, bad Galen, Imperator of the House of Galen, has finally met his match. Considering he hasn't shown even the inkling of an interest in anyone until Sam stepped on the scene, this feels like a big moment.

As it turns out, Galen is just as...well, "human" wouldn't be the right word, would it? Maybe mortal? Nah. That doesn't feel right, either. Regardless, he's not infallible and he's not unfeeling. He carries the burden of his people's safety and his failure in protecting Raiden's family like a cloak. The poor guy is a tense ball of guilt and responsibility and Sam's just the one to help him loosen up.

Seriously, Galen doesn't have a clue how to relax until Sam basically browbeats him into dropping his guard for a while. Nekkid, fun time is a great motivator, isn't it?

As for Sam, her time as a captive in Zaabha has worn her down. She's not willing to give up, but she had to do things to survive that she's not proud of. In other words, if anyone understands the position Galen is in with his guilt, she's the one.

While this ties up the Galactic Gladiators series, there looks to be plenty more in store for the plucky survivors who ended up on Carthago. For me, it's always hard to say goodbye to characters I've some to know and love, but I'm excited to see where the next adventure takes us.

This has been a constantly entertaining sci-fi action romance series. I loved the mini-epilogues for each of the main characters.

It's bad when you're happy to learn that there are more human abductees out there, but I'm glad that this is not going to be the end of the Galactic Gladiators.

Due to all the sock puppet accounts by literary agencies used to lower the average ratings of romance books I will be even more generous with my ratings from now on. These books are short and easy to read, and for a scifi romance thats sucess.

This is another excellent, well-written book that was a pure pleasure to read. From start to finish it has lots of twists and turns to fire up the reader’s imagination. The storyline is both exciting and heart-warming; in addition, towards the end of the book, the reader is given an insight into the various relationships between the Earth women and their alien mates and how their love for one another has impacted their lives. The ending also has a scenario that gives the reader pause for thought. I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending this book.

Raiden, the prince Galen had been bred to protect, is safe, as were those from the House of Galen, but he and Sam still remain prisoners on Zaabha. The Thraxians had always thrived on enslaving and hurting others. As the imperator of the House of Galen, honour and duty is in Galen’s blood, so he would fight, but the Thraxians had picked the wrong man to make their enemy. The Thraxians had made Galen fight nonstop for three days and then tortured him; he would be killed if they didn’t make their escape, though Sam is amazed he is still alive. As an Aurelian, Galen has the ability to feel a being’s personality and he senses weariness, exhaustion and resignation in the fighters; the Thraxians were experimenting with implants, turning the fighters from unwilling, unruly slaves into ruthless, obedient fighters, who were following the Thraxians’ orders whether they wanted to or not. Sam, as the Champion of Zaabha, will not let self-pity or despondency take over her; she is not one to give up and with help, the two escape Zaabha, promising to return to free the other prisoners. Then they would put together an army to stop the Thraxians and destroy Zaabha once and for all. But something is wrong. The Thraxians were in the city, testing their new implants at the House of Zeringei; slaughtering innocents. Sam knew that the lead Thraxian scientist had a crystal cube in his Laboratory and bragged about it containing all his data; everything kept coming back to the implants and they needed to find out what the Thraxians’ plans were. As a royal bodyguard, love for Galen had been forbidden. In Sam, Galen has never met a more stubborn, determined person; she is no sweet, submissive woman and would take, demand and give back. Sam is a warrior, a fighter, a gladiator; a woman who matched him, step for step. Galen wants to see Sam happy and give her whatever she wants, whatever she needs, just like he has done for the other human women; they had all survived and made lives for themselves with their mates at the House of Galen. While Sam has conflicting emotions about her family and the thought of not seeing them again, she knew she was no longer alone. Galan is someone Sam admires; not handsome but something beyond that. He is tough, rugged and strong; strength radiated off him, but he has classic survivor’s guilt. Galen has given everyone what they need, but what did Galen want, and what would it take for him to put his own needs first? Sam is determined to find out. For the first time in her life, she has found a man who attracts her on so many different levels, but would he want her enough to open himself up. Eventually the Thraxians’ real plan is revealed; war is coming and Galen needs the support of all the Houses and their imperators, but can he convince them the threat is real? A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

Aaaaaaaaaa Maz ING!!!!!!!! This series was soo awesome !!!

First fell in love with Raiden and Harper in book one and while I loved those two together, it wasn’t long before I was hoping for tough resilient always soo alpha Galen would get his book...
I guess it only made sense that everyone’s protector had to wait for last to get his day and his woman but boy was it worth the weight ....
Sam is a wonderful, beautiful blending of deep beauty and an even deeper strength ....
To have had to go thru what she did and endure and come out thriving not just surviving when I’m sure she had to go against core principles and values to do soo is just amazing and to not come out bitter or hard but still sweet and loving ?
Wow,to me Sam is a beautiful balance I think we’d all like to be... I know I would ;)
To be able to kick major ass and be a great cook ? Heck yeah❣️ Though I’d also want to be great artist ... since I am...
Lol,an artist that is ;) still working on the greatness ....
And I’d definitely love a man like Galen ,sexy, rough ,hard but soft ( for me in the right places ) loyal, protective giving alpha ,but maybe dialed don just a touch , maybe two of them if we’re living out fantasies .... cue big grin
I honestly don’t have much more too say ,I wanna say I’m sad this part is over ( few heard there’s more, but it’s gonna be a bit different) and I am but then I’d be saying I regret this book and like I said I’ve been wanting to see Galen get the love he deserves almost From the start.....soooooo,I’ll just say I can’t wait to see where things from here ....

Between Anna’s books needing to on a reading version of a “for a good time call” list, and just about everyone one I’ve seen being KU ,I say give this series a definite try❣️
I feel fairly certain you’ll love’em ( though I know there’s always an exception ) just like i have❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
Nor everyone one was a fave but I was always glad to return to this world 🌍
Thank you Ms. Hackett❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️

MEMORABLE - DANGER & ROMANCE THAT SIZZLES

IMPERATOR - GRABS YOUR ATTENTION FROM THE START. Galen's story exceeded my expectations with superb action, spine-chilling suspense, horrific danger, life-threatening issues, thrilling vivid scene descriptions, humor, camaraderie, unconditional love, an awesome epilogue that had me cheering for joy, toe-curling fiery romance and a phenomenal happily ever after.

Galen's persona confirms he is a driving force. His past provides reasons for his protective nature and why he built the House of Galen. Samantha Santos a woman from earth was captured by the horned beasts Thraxians. To stay alive she became their Champion fighter. Together they face many dangerous challenges to get to their most wanted happy ending.

MEMORABLE EXHILARATING fabulous read. The full cast of heroes and heroines are definitely powerful and engaging. The chemistry between Sam and Galen is more than genuine; a worthy match. It was fabulous to see the powerful Imperator submit to true love. I relished this story making it one of my top reads. Finding this to be a most gratifying read {of my own volition without any stipulations, I reviewed an advanced copy.} Without any reservations, I recommend this read.

Soooooo Good!!! Don’t pass this one up!!!

This whole series is about the House of Galen gladiators secretly, stealthily, rescuing people. Amazing tests of strength and skill in the arena (and sometimes outside the arena). Smokin’ hot lovers. Complex action and aliens. Did I mention drool worthy Gladiator Aliens??? The glue that holds it all together is Imperator Galen. He is a hunk of a man, chiseled from pure steel- a former guard to the prince and gladiator, a savvy ruler of his very prosperous house, a secret savior of those abused and thrown into the arena against their will or capacity. The titan that can send terror through the guts of just about anyone with a glare of his one icy blue eye. His recent mission is to save the humans abducted into slavery by a rival house and their race. After reading every single Galactic Gladiator book, I was DYING to see if Galen would land himself a woman. Because under that scary exterior there beats a heart of gold. DANG- I was NOT disappointed! Galen is a serious badass and Sam is sort of his mirror image. This story was AMAZINGLY WRITTEN - you HAVE to read this book!!!

It is about time Galen got an HEA and Sam is the perfect match for him. Full of action and danger this is a good ending to the Galactic Gladiators series. Finally the Thraxians get their due and their time on the planet comes to an end. This could be the last time we see this world but Hackett left a comment at the end saying that she had plans for additional stories and this was not the last time we would visit this world.

Imperator is the culmination of all ten previous books in Anna Hackett’s marvelous, universe-spanning Galactic Gladiators series. It brings this story to a fantastic, heart-stopping doozy of a happily ever after for the humans stolen from Jupiter station and the gladiators (and a few select others) who take these refugees into their hearts.

Even in a couple of cases where those gladiators weren’t actually sure they still (or ever) had hearts.

The series began in Gladiator when the slave-trading Thraxians exploited a temporary wormhole that led from Carthago on the far side of the galaxy to our own solar system. The Thraxians, being the bloodthirsty and evil slave traders that they are, attacked the station and kidnapped as many humans as they could, skedaddling back through the wormhole before it closed.

There may be no place like home, but there’s no way back home for the kidnapped humans.

As the series progressed, one by one, those humans were rescued from the slave traders and their illegal fighting pits by the gladiators of the House of Galen, led by their leader, the Imperator Galen himself.

The House of Galen discovered that the Thraxians and their allies were operating an underground fight ring, using kidnapped, enslaved, tortured and experimented upon fighters. At first the ring was literally underground, but when the gladiators discovered that set of pits, the masters of Zaabha moved to a floating arena, one that flies over the more deserted parts of the planet.

Imperator opens on the heels of the final events of the previous book, Cyborg. Galen and his gladiators have managed to free all the human captives save one, but at tremendous cost. Galen himself is stuck on the floating Zaabha, along with the one human woman that he has not been able to forget.

Galen would say that he stayed on Zaabha because he promised the human mates of his gladiators that he would rescue their friend Samantha Santos from Zaabha. But the truth is that he wants to rescue Sam for himself.

In the end, they’ll have to rescue each other. Not just from Zaabha, but from all of the guilt and demons locked inside their own hearts.

Escape Rating B+: I have loved this entire series. While I’m a bit sorry to see it end, I’m glad that the author left a glimmer of possibility for future stories in this world. There could be other captured humans that they have not found. Yet.

But this part of the story is done. The House of Galen and their allies have all found their happily ever afters with humans from Earth. And it was fitting that Galen’s story was the last – because he couldn’t let his own guard down until every single person under his protection had been taken care of.

And now they have.

Imperator is the final story in this series. Even if more kidnapped humans do turn up, this story ends this section. As such, this is no place to start the series. I’m not totally sure that they have to be read strictly in order, but I would recommend starting with one of the first three books, Gladiator, Warrior or Hero. Once you’re hooked, you’ll want to read them all, but there’s a point in this series where things really build on the previous books – a point we’re well past by Imperator.

This book also includes a bit of, not exactly an epilog, but a few scenes where we see the present from each of the preceding couples’ points of view. And those scenes only have resonance if you know where everyone is coming from.

In all of the stories, and especially in this wrap up, those HEAs are very definitely earned.

And it’s fantastic!

Thank you, Anna Hackett! I've been waiting for Galen's story ever since I read the first Galactic Gladiator book. I knew it was going to be a good one, and it really was. Galen and Sam's story was completely awesome, and as much as I may have hated waiting to be able to read it, the build up really helped.

Galen and the House of Galen went to Zaabha to rescue some humans. They were able to get one out, but Sam, as the Champion of Zaabha, and former security chief, was unable to get out. Galen refused to leave her there alone, so he jumped out of the transport and stood by Sam to help fight everyone off so that his gladiators would be able to escape.

Now the Thraxians, who hate Galen with the firey heat of 1000 white hot suns, have their enemy fighting in Zaabha, and they are bound and determined to keep him there and make him miserable, so they have him fighting for hours and hours and hours straight. He can barely keep going, but they keep sending out wave and wave of fighters, many of whom have control disks on their heads, so they aren't under their own control. Finally, they let Sam come out with him, and after having them fight for a little bit, the Thraxians shock them and knock them out. Sam comes to alone, while Galen is off getting tortured. I mean, if you have your mortal enemy right there, the man who has tried to take you down, what else are you going to do? Eventually, Sam and Galen are able to escape and start toward Carthago so that they can get help from House of Galen and all the other gladiator Houses.

I love Sam. She is so tough. She's had to be to survive, but at the same time, she's really vulnerable. She's had to shut off so much of herself to get through her ordeal. She has always tried not to kill her opponents, but that hasn't always been possible, so she carries all those deaths in her head, plus the fact that she was taken by the Thraxians and she can never go home. When she confronts Galen, I just wanted to cheer. She's going to be so good for him and for House of Galen in general.

Now, I can't wait to see what happens next! I think all the main House of Galen fighters are paired up, so we've got the House of Rone to work with. It ought to be interesting to see, and I really don't want to wait, but I guess I will.

Game Over: Earth Women Win

Galen, the Imperator of the House of Galen, has been a royal bodyguard, a refugee, a gladiator, and a secret champion of those victims of Thraxian slavers who are unsuited to fight in the Arena at Kor Magna. He's a real hero, a genuine good guy, and he always keeps his promises. He promised to free the Earth women from the illegal slave arena at Zaabha, and hist book starts with him battling next to Samantha of Earth, the reigning Champion of Zaabha, to free her and himself from the Thraxians. No woman has ever had the fighting skills, the courage, and the indomitable spirit to match Galen - but Samantha does. Though he tries to fight it, theirs is a love written in the stars. IF they can live to enjoy it! The Thraxians are devious and powerful enemies, with a long-time grudge against Galen and his House. It's a war to the death between the House of Galen and the House of Thrax. Only one will survive, and Galen's allies are few... The eleventh and last in line of the Galactic Gladiators series is a typical Anna Hackett action romance, with pulse-pounding action, thrilling escapes, brutal battles and moments of dire peril. The heroes are strong and mighty alpha males, their human mates are tough and gutsy equals in the fight for the right, and the only thing Galen does better than fighting for justice is loving his woman. The world-building is first-class, and the concluding chapters are the author's ingenious way of recapping and reconnecting with the heroes of Books 1 - 10 and their human mates. Fine reading and a fitting end to the saga of House Galen.
