Women are emotional beings. She doesn’t always does the logical things. We feel with our heart and think with brain. Though it is a misconception too. Feelings also reside in brain. The book tells us how the thinking and emotion play out and interact. Different people interpret things differently based on their life experiences.
Intelligence, learning and habits play an important part. Every person has different kind of intelligence and traditional IQ scales doesn’t help much here. Habits are formed by repetition and unconscious processes.
Chapter 9 is most important which tells about happiness. As per Dr Sonja Lyubomirsky happiness is dependent on 1. Life’s circumstances 2. Genetics 3. Behaviours
Chapter 10 sums it all up.

Simple language is used throughout the book so that it gives the reader a clarity on what needs to be done and simplicity should be the trademark of self-help books and this book sticks by it
The cover is very beautifully designed. It's quite thought-provoking. An image of a person diving into water symbolically means "Diving into one's own personality to connect with himself".
The Title despite being simple is inspiring and meaningful in itself. "Connecting With Yourself: Why we think, feel and act the way we do", this title made me pick this novel for self improvement.
The Blurb about this self help book is to the point. It just hits the Bull's eye. It gives a very clear picture of what this book is about.

What made the author standout is the fact that He didn't miss out on giving proper references and credits to others. I must say this is perfectly written book which serves it's purpose of motivation.
'Connecting with yourself - why we think, feel and act the way we do' is not just a book but the gist of life put together in the most effective way.
This is a self help book which is very different from all the other books of this genre I read before. It has a perfect balance of psychology, philosophy and neuroscience which makes it stand out. The author has very clearly bifurcated the complete concept into various chapters, making it easier for the readers to understand. It deals with various aspects like perspectives, habits, emotions , will power, self control, happiness etc.
The cover is really intriguing and catchy. The title of the book is apt and the subtitle complements it . The blurb is crisp and concise. The language of the book is lucid and it can be easily finished in a single sitting. The use of diagrams and flowcharts wherever necessary added cherry on the cake. THE TITLE
The title gives us an insight into Self Discovery. It urges us not to limit yourself to your own preconceptions of yourself, but throw yourself out onto a blank page that you haven't written on yet, and see what you find out about you, see what story unfolds, see what happens! I always do this, and sometimes it can be very frightening! To very often have a blank page with nothing written on it yet! I feel as though I am a soul with a single covering–my body of skin– and that's the only thing between me on the inside and the rest of the world! It's quite frightening to begin each day on a blank page, forgetting your own preconceptions of yourself and allowing your mind to embrace the new! It is like meeting yourself for the first time, over and over again! The title is indeed well crafted as it tells us to Connect with oneself. If we can draw an analogy from the same context, we can say Self-discovery changes everything, including your relationships with people. When you find your authentic self, those who loved your mask are disappointed. You may end up alone, but you don’t need to stay alone. While it’s painful to sever old connections, it’s not a tragedy. It’s an opportunity. Now, you can find people who understand the importance of looking for truth and being authentic. Now, you can find people who want to connect deeply, like you’ve always wanted to, instead of constant small talk and head games. Now, you can have real intimacy. Now, you can find your tribe. The book although a nonfiction, it narrates various aspects of Life and the way ylu can get connected to them. I feel Narrative nonfiction is an act of conception and construction; it is formation of a personal legend from the mist of memory using mental hydraulics plied with the tools of logic, structure, design, and imagination. An engaged mind possesses a documentary sensibility that fabricates a memoirist identity, which alliance mollifies their bleak interior critic. A conscientious mind hews a residue of meaning from the verisimilitude of a person’s meta-fictional baggage. A basic impulse of all free people is to speak to an appreciative audience. Writing the story of our life constitutes asserting the universal human right to declare and define who we are. When we write our story, we become a stakeholder of our place in the world, we affirm the right to shape our future and avow the verity to heal our torn souls.
REVIEW OF THE BOOK-
The book beautifully describes the functioning mechanism of the human brain and how it is related to the term ‘Connection’. We have major aspects on which the book focuses on. The first being self-discovery. Life is an ongoing journey where the intrepid traveller explores as many tributaries in the river of life as possible. Living consists of probing for the headwaters leading to shimmering effervescence, which exploratory promises to explain the contours in a person’s passage. We each seek to map the miles logged alongside the muddy embankment that spawns our origin, annals our journey, and cradles our crypts. A hearty and weary traveller alike registers, indexes, interprets, and reinterprets their interweaved encounters with a world suffused with good and evil, imbued with love and hate, saturated with greed and evil, laced with acts of unbelievable tenderness, and consecrated with the lifeblood of our ancestors. The second portrayal being Self Introspection. People often tell themselves lies, in order to reach what they consider acceptance in difficult situations. In reality, they fool themselves into believing they are healed, until that lie is corrected by time, further information or their own personal growth. True healing comes when we learn to not avoid truth, but face it. The book really gives you an insight that only then will we be set free. Everyone loses their class when they travel through hell, but only a few will regain it if they remain humble and accept the part they played in their own misery. The third is Self Realization. But how that is related to psychology and to this book? Well, Your expectation of something unique and dramatic, of some wonderful explosion, is merely hindering and delaying your Self Realization. You are not to expect an explosion, for the explosion has already happened - at the moment when you were born, when you realized yourself as Being-Knowing-Feeling. There is only one mistake you are making: you take the inner for the outer and the outer for the inner. What is in you, you take to be outside you and what is outside, and you take to be in you. The mind and feelings are external, but you take them to be intimate. You believe the world to be objective, while it is entirely a projection of your psyche. That is the basic confusion and no new explosion will set it right! You have to think yourself out of it. There is no other way. The fourth is Self assessment in which you realize what is the worst thing about yourself that you like? Your most important “want” should be the one you can control. Life is fundamentally a mental state. We live in a dream world that we create. Whose life is truer, the rational man of action pursuing practical goals of personal happiness and wealth or the philosophic man who lives in a world of theoretical and metaphysical ideas? We ascribe the value quotient to our lives by making decisions that we score as either valid or invalid based upon our personal ethics and how we think and behave. The last perspective is self perception in which you feel that as you heal, you see yourself more realistically. You accept that you are a person with strengths and weaknesses. You make the changes you can in your life and let go of the things that aren’t in your power to change. You learn that every part of you is valuable. And you realize that all of your thoughts and feelings are important, even when they’re painful or difficult. The book elucidates on self reflection too. Understanding of oneself is the first act in establishing a transformative philosophy for living a vivid and a reflective existence. Knowing thy self is essential to designing and instigating a meaningful life that is self-directed instead of exclusively controlled by innate traits and external determinates If you want to get connected to yourself, do order the book from https://www.amazon.in/Connecting-Your...

Book Name (subtitle): Connecting with Yourself (Why we think, feel and act the way we do) Author Name: Vishal Jacob Format: Paperback No of Pages: 150 Publisher: Notion Press (1st Ed- 7/6/2018) Blurb: The blurb portion of the book is written tactfully highlighting the core substance of the book. It can make the reader (on this specialized interest) turn the pages of the book. So, it is compact I can say. Cover: The front cover of the book is unique and significant as per the content of course. It’s a noticeable job done by the cover designer indeed. Title: The title (along with the subtitle) of the book is captivating and attention seeking as well. When the title itself speaks about connecting with yourself, then it is natural that it will tempt the reader to go through the inner content of the book. Language & narration: Language of the book is lucid and simple enough, and including the specific defining terms, I must say that the author has presented the facts and analyzed the details the most simple and comprehensive way possible. In this aspect, full marks to the book. Especially, in a book like this, the descriptive side of the content turns important for a non reader to understand; and the author is through to that part. Plot: The basic plot or we can say idea of the book is mainly to understand the reason behind our activities and thinking process through our brain functions and thus we may achieve the self realization and connect with our deep self. In this modern era of competition and rat race behind comforts, most of the persons usually unable to connect themselves to their soul and they don’t realize the purpose of being and happiness too. So, this book has been developed from that sole purpose to help readers reaching the core of oneself and to live life with a broad vision and purpose. Theme: Self realization, self help, personal development, inspirational. Contents & my verdict: This book contains the core factors about how our brain works, its influence over our activities and reaction, what are we at fault and what should we do see the things in a wider way, and ultimately connecting with ourselves. In ten chapters, author has put front the most analytic view of our thought process, brain system and its each and every factor controlling our emotions. In a sentence, this book is a journey of self discovery. It will help the reader to realize (see the subtitle itself) what we do, how we behave and why so? It tells us what is ‘Success’ actually, and whatever role our brain plays in the regular activities of ours and our decision factor. The sole purpose of the author is to help the reader discover and connect with their inner selves by clearing the concept of our being, like whatever reason behind our behavior and reactions are. Author’s research about neuroscience & psychology, for penning down this great book is evident in each chapters of the book and the chapters are sequenced and presented well. The most noticeable factor is all the information is with proper example of real life experiences and natural common activities provided, thus the reader may not feel anything exaggerated or overrated comparatively. These information are authentic and scientifically analyzed. Each chapter starts with an inspirational quote from famous personalities and that single quote contains the significance of that chapter and ends with the basic takeaway points or gist of that chapter. Author has pointed and discussed about Perspectives, (elaboration with diagram) differences of perception, differences of what is right and wrong, Intelligence, its classifications, IQ, what is Learning actually and why we see things differently or learn the same things in different way, importance of adapting, about our habits and how to form or change them, our reason behind taking decisions and Bias concept, what we want, our will power and own control, to avoid temptation, about our emotions and its role in our daily life, feelings, what is survival and how should we handle stress, what does the word ‘Happiness’ means and its connection (aspect of religion or spiritual being), the base of happiness, circumstances of life, our responding in particular situations, and finally, way of connecting with ourselves- every single thing mentioned above are discussed thoroughly and analytically. I am deeply moved by the significance of the book and it has changed my way of seeing things already. I am sure about one thing that the purpose of the author has successfully accomplished through this book. A much needed book it is I can say. Recommendation: I would definitely love to recommend this book to each and every avid reader out there because I believe that following this book properly can change lives of many.. It is a sure shot. Thank you. Rating (Overall): 5/5 Stars.

The author 'Vishal Jacob' has done quite a remarkable job and researched thoroughly for 'Connecting with yourself'. All praises for him to write such a knowledgeable piece of work. This is more of a help book and gives an insight to all thoughts and emotions one goes through in his/her life.
Brief : It is a book about discovering yourself. The writer has set his intentions right while writing this book. It helps the readers in solving their personal problems and provides a perspective on why we think, feel and act the way we do.
The writer has efficiently covered 10 topics revolving around our day to day activities and how the human mind works and responds to them depending on various situations.
The book is divided into ten chapters and each of them touches upon different subject like perspectives, intelligence, learning, habits, decisions/biases, willpower/self control, survival/stress and happiness. All chapters are self sufficient and have their own importance.
The key takeaways at the last of each chapter sums up everything for a reader in a very proficient manner.
Review : After reading the entire book I would say the writer has done a good job in amalgamating different subjects related to human psyche. It is really difficult to manage and understand the emotions one goes through, and CWY helps you to know them better. The way to happiness starts from within and this book helps in discovering the same. It is always better to know yourself first, then to know others. I recommend this to all those who are struggling in maintaining a balance in life and want to lead their way to a better future.
P.S. Kudos to the writer for his efforts on untangling the labyrinth called LIFE.
While responding to an external stimuli, the neurons connect with each other via a chemical reaction and form a pathway. When we trying to make sense of something, other people may perceive things differently, precisely the reason for the neuron pathways not to be alike.
It may be hard to assimilate this fact, but according to the surveys conducted on various group of people by emminent psychologists, majority of our happiness stems from our behaviour, then Genetics followed by life's circumstances.
The way our brain processes emotional and physical pain is same. An example for this is, you develop a splitting headache when you are stressed out and when you are depressed for a considerable period of time, you develop an eating disorder.
It is very important to take a step back in our life to introspect, why we behave the way we do and remain true to our purpose.
Rating and Review:
The experience I derived from this book was enriching. The author has researched to a great extent and put forth his points with the help of real life examples. I loved his approach towards life especially the 'Centred Life' theory spread across four aspects namely, health, relationship, financial security, work and activities. He has made the boring text book concepts seem interesting and fascinating. The easy going language will enable you to comprehend these things. I could relate to the majority of concepts related to happiness, perspective, learning and the list goes endless. At the end, all the chapters are coherently stringed together to summarise the book.
Connecting with Yourself: Why we think, feel and act the way we do Author: Vishal Jacob Published by: Notion Press No. of Pages: 150
Before reviewing the book, I must mention that the book well written by an experienced and senior marketing professional, who is also an executive coach, certified in TA and NLP. The book is about how we connect ourselves through our perceptions, habits, intelligence, will-power, decisions, emotions etc. Each element of a personality is technically discussed in detail. It helps the reader in understanding why perceptions are different, and how intelligence is varied, and how incomplete assessments of students are done in schools. This book is definitely going to help you in understanding yourself better, and to know why you behave the way you behave. The author has theoretically explained each element involving his experiences. I find this book as a true guide book for every professional in any field. You can be your own doctor, after reading the book, because you will be in a position to know yourself better. The cover page is interesting where a man dives into his brain, rightly connects to the content of the book. Best part of the book is the key points mentioned after every chapter, from you get the summary of each chapter. Overall it’s an interesting book, to understand the analysis of your personality. I would rate this book as 4/5.

I like reading self-help books. They give you an insight into how you can make your life better. When I received this book, I was going through a rough patch of my life. I was loaded with work at office and my freelance projects also killed most of my time. This book proved to be a savior. Just like its name, I was able to connect with myself.
The author has divided the books into 10 chapters. Each chapter brings you closer and makes you aware of various aspects of life… one at a time. He narrates to you an incident, a story and then presents his views about the same. We, human beings, have a tendency to learn things better when we hear them in the form of a story. And the author succeeds in doing it really well.
The narration is simple and so is the language. You will be able to relate to it really well. The author summarizes each chapter in a page… it’s the key takeaways from the chapter.
Another amazing thing about this book is that you can read any chapter that you like. You do not compulsorily have to follow the order of the book.
cover - It is a picture of a person swimming inside the head shaped swimming pool which tells us and connects us to the title and reminds us to stay connected with ourselves before anything else to dive deep into our heads and find the depth of it.

Book Title: 3/5 Book Cover: 3/5 About the book: 3/5 Language & Grammar: 3/5
This book was a gift.. I assumed it was one of the many self-help/ life-lesson-teaching books that I tend to find monotonous. I was completely taken by surprise. This book is 50% behavioural science and neurology presented in a very conversational sort of way. The author does a fantastic job of interweaving his personal narrative with the 100's of scientific studies conducted over a span of several decades to explain the physiological basis of EVERYTHING we do or think! It tells us why we jeopardise ourselves (apparently a lot of it is evolutionary!) and how we can stop.
An absolute must read for all ages. I agree with someone else who has commented here - this book REALLY SHOULD BE part of Class-10/12 syllabus in schools. Lessons from it are applicable to the young and to the old.
Connecting With Yourself is a nice and inspirational book written by Vishal Jacob. The book deals with Neurosciences and human psychology related to human brains. How the perceptions of individual differs on a particular matter is described with good examples which is relatable to us. Basically the motive of the author behind writing the book is to make us understand the reason of our activities and thinking process of our brain which differs from others many times and by visualizing those facts we can achieve the self realization and connect with our own mind deeply which could help us in many aspects. I liked the "Key takeways from the chapter" very much at the end of the chapter which is the summary of the chapter. Languager of the book is lucid and easy to understand. Book is a good one time read if you really want to connect with yourself.
The book is divided into ten chapters. Each chapter dealing with a different topic. Every chapter is complete on its own. Dealing with different aspects of life, the author describes every human emotion in detail logically that explains its complete process. With a terse writing style and extremely good use of vocabulary, the author has done a commendable job. These days when life is fast and people are stressed and messed up in their personal/work lives and relationships, this books comes as a savior. Despite being science added in between, the book doesn’t lose its grip and gives something interesting to learn at every page. With every ingredient in equal proportion, the book comes out to be a fantastic read. Irrespective of gender and age, one should read this book once for having a deeper insight on life and how things work. Highly recommended.
When it is about the mind, brain and our thoughts and habits, we have a habit of listening, either to a spiritual Guru or from a Psychologist. However, both have their own complexities, as Guru wants to connect everything to God and the the psychologist likes to give it in more intricate scientific words, to which we have a repulsion normally. The book, “Connecting with yourself, Why we think, feel and act the way we do” by Vishal Jacob shows a clear and simple way to understanding such things. The book, I a sure, will be highly helpful for all, specially for the beginners, to connect with oneself and for a smooth sail in this life.
"Connecting with yourself" by Vishal Jacob is a very interesting read wherein the author has tried to explain human behavior and why we think, feel and act the way we do. It is clearly shown that the author has put in a lot of research before writing this masterpiece. I would like to recommend this book to everyone who are in search of answers related to themselves and their immediate environment.
The book is very well researched and structured. Every chapter has a summary. That being said, the summaries would only make sense if you actually read the chapters i.e. please don't think that you can read the summaries and be done with it. I would suggest the reader to have a pen and notebook handy.
My favourite sections - 1. Types of stress 2. Factors resulting in happiness 3. The 9 dimensions of intelligence 4. How a habit is formed 5. The cognitive appraisal theory
A must read book that helps us understand how to win in life from the perspective of both self and others. Beautifully and meticulously weaves in learnings and constructs across various fields - psychology, neuroscience and indeed philosophy to give a complete holistic view to ourselves as people and in relation to others - aided by some superb frameworks that make this easy to implement and use
The title of the book is engaging and so is the cover. The author has beautifully penned down the combination of neuroscience and psychology and has highlighted some basic aspects of life. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book as there was lots of interesting facts about the functionality of the human mind. The language is lucid and engaging. The narration too is kept simple and is an easy read. What caught my attention was the way the minute details are narrated and to simplify it further the supportive images too are provided. This is one of the best books that I have come across and would recommend this as a must read.
Wishing the author good luck and awaiting more titles.

After reading this book, I realized that you need no priest or saint to show you the direction of your life as your deep self knows it.
It is a must read for all teens who feel estranged from themselves and family.
The interesting part is that the book doesn't over-feed ideas or topics and is crisp.
The best way to read this book is to read one or two chapters per day slowly.
As a law student, I am satisfied with the sources cited towards the end of the book.
Also, the book is crafted in simple English and an interesting narration.
The most interesting thing is the way one could connect with every word of the book.
