I love Yumemi’s character and her gambling session. She adds a really unique story to this series. I can’t wait until volume 5 as it was one of my favorite parts of the anime. There’s so many fun twists coming up.

The games in this volume were incredibly underwhelming, especially when compared to the ones featured in the last volume. These games that are completely dependent on luck are just... not exciting to read about. I want more card and casino type games!

This volume was nowhere near as tense just because the stakes weren’t as crazy as the previous instalments but, despite Yumemi Yumemite not being for everyone, I still like her and I adore Yumeko <3 she is my queen!!

I’m also fondly remembering the anime episode/s of this so nostalgia is also playing a big part here too.

Love this series and I wish more people would read it.

A misstep here as an aspiring singer/actress on the student council challenges Yumeko to a pop idol duel. The stakes are low and the tournament of challenges is dull. And after a lull in fan service last volume, upskirt shots return with a vengeance, which, just, no. Also, the series' obsession with Russian roulette continues with two performances of a love song that uses it as a metaphor. Oh my.

They waste too much time on an Idol story arc that fails to capture the intrigue the gambling has had so far, but the main girl is still thrilling as always.

Yumeko Jabami, the compulsive gambler, is a very interesting character. In the beginning of the book, when she first learns about Yumemite, her soon to be opponent, she is very excited and immediately wants to interact with her. As if she knew that she would have to gamble against Yumemite later. I would describe Yumeko as a wolf in sheeps clothing. Because through out the book, she seem like a naive girl, but turns out she can easily see through peoples lies, like how she new that Yumemite's character she shows to her fan is not the real her. It's interesting how she is always surprising the reader, and even the characters that have tag a long her journey. A specific example of Yumeko having shocking abilities, was when she was going to first meet Yumemite. Yumemite's manager was patting Yumeko down to make sure she wasn't secretly recording anything but secretly, Yumeko put the recorder inside of the managers pocket and she was able to have the recording as something to use to gamble against Yumemite. I also enjoy the character of Yumemite, who is a member of the Presidents Club, and is an idol pursuing larger life goals. Even though her character is used to drive the main story forward as another club member that Yumeko can defeat, I like how the concept of becoming an idol was attached to gambling. This book is also the start of, Yumeko journey in wanting to gamble against the President. The reason why she is able to is because she is a house pet, or someone who lost a gamble and has under a certain amount of money. As a house pet she has the ability to gamble against the current president of the club to becoming the new president, while also getting out of debt. In the beginning of the series, when she first came to the gambling school, it seemed like Yumeko was gambling out out having fun and enjoying the adrenaline, but now, it seem like Yumeko has a bigger goal and I am interested to see how it turn out in the future. The build up to it and the mystery of what Yumeko's drive to risk more and more for gambling makes me curious about what the end result will be. People who are really into anime and mangas, for the aesthetics will defiantly enjoy this book because of the art and how the characters are drawn. But also, people who are into gambling and game type stories where the main character eventually has to "battle" the main antagonist might also like this book. People who might not like this, are people who don't like the kind of repetitive format or, "the same word but in a different font" type story, because thats a common theme. But overall, I really enjoyed this book and will read it again.

The upskirt flash is a thing in Japan? Surely, you can get better stuff going online. It just feels gratuitous when you're reading a normal dialogue with characters standing upright, when suddenly you get a view of some panties. It's clearly a view from way below the knees, looking upwards, but there is nobody in the scene looking from that angle, only the reader. So then why? Manga, amiright?

This story arc features a pop idol. It's the perfect opportunity to laugh a bit at the sometimes corny names in pop girl bands. It does go overboard with a band name of 'Dreaming Creaming Sisters', I must say. Fan service is out of control.

The fourth volume of Kakegurui sees Yumeko square off against Yumemi, a Student Council member who is also a mildly-successful pop idol with a base of adoring fans. To no one's surprise, Yumemi hates her fans and only views her idol career as a stepping-stone to greater things, which allows Yumeko to blackmail her into a public contest. This leads to one of the more lighthearted installments, as the two sing a cheesy idol duet and play a few games involving Yumemi's knowledge of her fans, with Yumeko improbably finding a way to come out on top. Needless to say, the whole thing's been rigged by Kaede, the ambitious Student Council Accountant who views the absence of school president Kirari as a chance to seize power. Mostly more of the same, but more overtly humorous since how seriously can take a villainous School Idol plot?

Better pop that popcorn, because we're watching a live-on-TV gambling competition!

Even though the actual games were perhaps more based on luck than skill, it's always been the mind games that interested me in this series rather than the physical games alone. To that end, we're given an interesting character and a good level of backstory in Yumemi Yumemite, as well as continued scheming by the Student Council. The president being away allows the other students' personalities to shine, and boy do they ever. Even Mary and opponent-turned-potential-ally Itsuki Sumeragi's asides during the competition are funny and contribute a good bit to the story.

In short, I basically went from the most skippable volumes in the manga to one of the least skippable ones.

Kakegurui nunca decepciona.

I completely overlooked the fact that Kawamoto wrote "Russian Roulette of Love" for the anime adaptation, but knowing that now, it makes sense. The team couldn't have let those lyrics gone to waste, could they?

The idol show gamble worked better when there wasn't a physical host, IMO (an adaptation choice), and the longer chapters at the end threw the balance off of the shorter ones at the beginning, but this series is still pretty fun. Next volume is going to be a trip.

This volume Yumeko gambles against the pop idol council member not my favorite of the gambles. It didn't feel very high risk or intense like the others have been.

I'm not sure how many more of these I'm going to read. I do find it interesting and I am enjoying it, but I feel like I'm pushing myself to read them just to read them and not because I actually want to. I may just read a few more and then watch the show. I think I'll have a better experience watching it vs reading it.

I felt as if this issue was going to be the decline of this particular Manga. It starts and ends like an episode to an anime. The overall intensity is lacking in comparison to the other issues and the premise wasn’t entirely original. It does however end decently. Overall, I would give this 3.5 stars but rounded it up since good reads doesn’t allow half stars for some reason.

Definitely not as thrilling or interesting as previous volumes; the card game they did end up having was surprisingly short, and everything else was pretty glossed over, as well. Yumemi is a fun character, though, and if we see more of her later, it would be nice. I imagine this arc works better in the anime format, but it's been a while since I watched it, so I don't remember.

From skimming reviews of this volume, it seems I am at the unpopular opinion with this gamble.
Personally, I really like the Yumemi Yumemite gamble! I don't know exactly why but, I certainly didn't find it boring. Maybe that's because Yumemi is probably one of my favorite Kakegurui characters so I just love seeing her.

It's gotten to the point now where the plot is very predictable. The only two reasons I'd continue reading is 1) its easy to get lost into and 2) I want to know what the main character's plan to take down the president is.
