Rate this book
The eighth and final steamy, stand-alone romance in New York Times bestseller Marie Harte’s psychic, romantic suspense series—POWERUP!

It takes a thief to steal millionaire Owen’s heart. A m/m romance.

Owen Stallbridge is a powerful psychic who’s done his share of jobs for the government. He’s a millionaire and secret agent trying to segue out of his wet work assignments. The silent partner in the PowerUp! Gym, he normally lets his buddy Jack command the psychics working there. Owen has his hands full running his multi-million dollar empire and trying to keep an eye on Ian Ryder, a forger, a con man, and a criminal too sexy for his own good.

But an old enemy has returned, and it’s up to Owen to handle him before innocents are harmed. He’ll need Ian’s help to run the enemy down, that’s if he can trust the thief. Ian is smart, sexy, and vulnerable—all Owen wants in a partner and all that he desires in a man. But Ian refuses to trust. He won’t make it easy for Owen to claim him.

With time running out, they have to take a chance on each other if they want to survive the looming danger. And Owen will have to believe in the man who’s stolen his heart.

The Romance Review

Enjoy a series going out with a smexy bang? This is the book for you. KILLER THOUGHTS is the final installment of the Power Up! series. The reader finally meets the enigmatic and wealthy Owen Stallbridge. He's the silent partner of Jack's Power Up! Gym. He's also quite heteroflexible. Yes, he swings both ways and his current and perhaps last swing is towards Ian Ryder.

Oh, there are so many comments and none of them nice with a last name like Ryder. Ian is a con artist. He's probably best categorized as a white collar criminal with a little extra paranormal oomph. Fans of actor Matt Bomer playing con artist Neal Caffrey on White Collar will love Ian. In fact, since Matt Bomer is gay in real life, I can totally see him playing Ian.

It isn't just the reader fantasizing about a naked Ian; Owen also spends a good amount of time focused on Ian's juicy ass. The BDSM in this story is trademark Ms. Harte. It is hot, sexy and extremely arousing. Ms. Harte possesses the magic touch when she writes sex scenes. I'm not sure what it is about her writing style; it always turns me on. She could write ménage, M/f, F/m or M/m and it's all good. It's almost as if the reader is right there, hoping to participate in the sexfest. After reading so many Ms. Harte books, I think I'm conditioned to salivate at both "lips" when I see a new book available.

This one is well written with a bit of romantic suspense. The reader is satisfied as the questions arising from earlier books are answered. There are a few crossover points from Ms. Harte's other series that enhances the readers' enjoyment. Plus it helps build this cool paranormal world into a more complete one. One can only hope there will be another series in this world.

What really makes the book great is her characters. Ian and Owen are two completely different types yet they seem to balance each other so well. She creates them to possess amazing superman-like powers, yet they are not superman. She lets them get hurt and they are not flawless. They are human within their superhuman powers. Ms. Harte is at heart, a romantic. I say this because all her stories are about love triumphing over all. In addition, she matches all her characters up with the perfect mate. In her world, love sees no discrimination towards gender or race. She may drag them through hell first, but she always gives them a happy ending. This book is for romance lovers who enjoy a spicy bite of kink to their m/m paranormal romances.

The last book in the Power Up! series answered a lot of question, finally. We finally plumb the depths of the mysterious Mr. Owen Stallbridge A.K.A Mr. Moneybags in this book that should have been entitled . Again, we have two great, likable characters falling for each other, the return of a passed villain, who is still as creepy as ever. Owen is obscenely rich but somehow managed to be a really great, sweet, laid-back, and genuinely generous and likable guy with a really killer superpower (pun intended). Ian is... well, hard to describe. He would probably describe himself this way: "I have a gorgeous body, a killer ass, and I'm totally easy. Piss me off though and I can do some serious damage to your bank account, move assets around and make your life a living hell. Beauty and brains, baby; beauty and brains." He's also gay and proud, very, very proud. Needless to say, Ian totally stole the show every time. He's snarky, annoying, and a total drama queen, emphasis on the queen. He's also an unrepentant con artist and thief who fancies himself a modern day Robin Hood, stealing from the rich and entitled to give to the poor, namely him.

One problem I had with this book is that we didn't get enough background on Ian. We got the basics plus the fact that when he worked for the government, they did him wrong but we didn't get enough details on exactly what happened. Everyone, except for Owen, believes that it was Ian that screwed over the government and I'm a little pissed that he wasn't vindicated about that to at least the rest of the team. I also didn't really care about the villain as much as I cared about Owen and Ian's relationship. I didn't really feel a sense of danger because the book was so short. However, I did love that final scene at the end with everyone from the series reunited at a party, all in love and happy with good news all around.

All in all, this was a very nice ending to a very nice series.

Owen Stallbridge is a multi-millionaire who occasionally does secret work for the government. But these days Owen is busy with his businesses. He's even silent partner in the PowerUp! Gym, which caters to ex-psychics, member s of Uncle Sam's now-defunct Psychic Warfare Program (PWP). Being boss has its perks, especially when he it comes to keeping an eye on one particular psychic--Ian Ryder. The rebellious conman is an incredible forger, and he's the most beautiful man Owen has ever seen. He also proves valuable when an enemy from Owen's past comes calling.
Working for Owen, Ian starts to unravel the truth about the secretive millionaire. Owen is more than a rich businessman. He's also the notorious Fixer, a legend from Ian's PWP days, a supposed psychic assassin who cleans up messes for Uncle Sam.
Ian understands greed, money, and the need to have more of it. He's always running a con somewhere, somehow. He never expected to fall in lust and love with the man whose pockets he plans to empty. Not stealing from Owen is hard, but learning the truth about his new lover is harder. It's shocking, not to mention dangerous.
Because the Fixer never leaves behind any clues to his identity. And now Ian has become one major vulnerability for Owen to deal with. He's trouble for Owen's future as the Fixer, and for Owen's heart that seems to have fallen at Ian's feet. Trusting the wrong man will mean certain death for Owen and everyone he loves, but living without Ian may prove just as fatal, especially when Owen's biggest enemy arrives for a fight to the finish. Winner take all.

Heather's Notes
This was probably my least favorite book of the series. Which is kind of sad because I was hoping it would end on a high note. I didn't really connect with the characters, and the storyline felt rush and just kind of slapped together. Still I enjoyed the series overall.

Book 8

I was really looking forward to Ian’s story. I don’t know what it is about this author, she does a great m/m, but just like the other books it goes by so quick, this one in particular didn’t have as much depth into it. And even then there wasn’t a lot of bad guy story progression. What I mean is Kerr pops in and out like twice then bam they catch him and it’s over. This was already a short story it just felt again, like it was lacking any depth. A little bdsm toy play and that’s kinda it.

Killer Thoughts is the eighth and final book in Marie Harte’s PowerUp! series, featuring men and women with supernatural powers in pursuit of paranormal objects.

Owen Stallbridge is a wealthy, gorgeous businessman with a powerful gift. Ian Burke is an incredibly talented artist with a knack for theft. Opposites attract, as they say…

Marie Harte’s creative world building and sense of found family runs throughout this series. While each title can be read on its own, the series is definitely worth bingeing!

Ugh, so bad. My own fault for reading a m/m book by an author who primarily seems to write het romance and reading a series book out of sequence. Regardless the book was 20% plot 30% angst and 50% uninspired sex scenes. I gave it an extra star on the assumption that reading previous books may have caused me to care about these two characters.

I wasn't sure how to rate this series of books. Did I like them? No, not really, but I couldn't put them down! In one day I read three books. Thank God they're free. They were at the very least, entertaining, sorta sweet and very HOT. Lots of explicit sex scenes. And I enjoyed the characters. Would I recommend?... Maybe

PowerUp! Series

I chose to wait until I completed the series to submit a review. Definitely adult reading with a lot of paranormal action and suspense. I enjoyed all the characters that were developed by this author.

The final book in the PowerUp! series sadly, but what a way to leave them!!!

I loved 'Killer Thoughts'. Was great finding out Owen's skills & secrets and getting to see the real Ian.... have really like his character since we met him in Retrocog!!
The dynamic between the pair was interesting.
Another great, likeable couple to read about!!!

Loads of action and adventure as we've come to expect from this series - Marie knows how to write a fast-paced, passion packed page turner of a book!!

This really has been a favourite series of mine and I''m truly sad it's ended!! Fear not, MH will give us loads more fantastic books I'm sure!!!

Give Killer Thoughts a read, you won't be disappointed!!!!

So....I needed a book #8 in a series so I chose to read this without reading any of the rest of the series. That said, I wasn't completely lost. Even though I didn't know anyone or their story it didn't really take away from Ian and Owen's journey. Hell, it probably did but I didn't care. Ian is the company's PITA psychic forger and Owen is his boss, a millionaire and a "fixer". Basically, a psychic assassin. This had a lot of adventure mixed in with the lovely romance which really made for a fun read.

Another great one from the powerup team. We get to see first hand what it takes to get a colorful character as Ian off his ‘high horse’ and crazy in love. The biggest thing I didn’t understand was the fixing the fixer reference told to Ian. That did not play out as I thought it would but alls well that ends well, so they say. This came across as the end of the series so bang up job and great way to tie up loose ends. Awesome

Fun conclusion to the series and I got to find out a lot about a very mysterious man. I do hope that Harte continues to write in this world because another mysterious character has now connected the PowerUp set of characters with the Circ characters...
