This was a charming story, reminiscent of the much beloved classics such as Alice in Wonderland and a Princess Bride. The world building is wonderful, and the intricate details... from the diverse landscape to the exotic wildlife, really brings everything alive, inspiring the imagination to soar. It is a story about a young girl who longs for adventure and a chance to see the world. One day her fate changes when she stumbles upon a friend in much need of help. Determined to save this helpless survivor, she leaves her home. Along the way, she encounters perils and pitfalls, and learns much about love and friendship. A particular interest in this story, are Radianne's three traveling companions. One is infuriatingly arrogant, the other a kind lonely soul, and the third a noble creature who longs for home. Radianne is a character that children can look up to, and a sweet first love innocence makes this story appropriate for all ages. Anderson's writing is smooth with a poetic flow, lovely word choice, and excellent imagery. If you enjoy animals fables and fairy tales, then you will love this!

I think it's more of a 3.5 for me (i rarely give above 4). I loved the first chapter - it felt like a fable or folktale! The story is cute and follows a fantasy adventure through unusual lands. It has a Alice in Wonderland feel to it. Not my usual read as i think it is best for younger YA readers. Blink is a cutie :)

Review:
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a really cute book. Aimed for ages 12-15, this book has everything a young adult book should have. A detailed world, great characters, action, and conflict.

While this isn't the typical type of YA I read, this one seems more like a bridge between Middle Grade and what is commonly thought of as YA, sometimes characters acted "childish". Which might mean they are a more accurate representation of how teenagers behave. Even though these characters are 18, it's been a while since I was 18 and I might think/thought I was more mature than I actually was at the time.
Sometimes there were redundancies in the writing, the narrator telling us how a character feels about something, then the character mentioning how they feel. Rather than just the character giving that information. Also, early on in the book, a character mentions they like another character, then the narrator tells the reader that those two are love interests. I found that odd, and unnecessary. I think any reader could figure out that without being told based on what the character said in the previous sentence.
In the end, this was a cute and fun story. Just not the typical book I read.

A wonderful story filled with lovable and not so lovable creatures. The main character reminds me of my teenage years and longing for adventure and even first love. R.M. Anderson uses beautiful description to
leave vivid pictures of the many wonderful lands the characters visit. Her writing leaves you wishing to visit places like Shondalina or endless jungles where magical events may occur. This book is for anyone who is looking to find a little bit of light in a sometimes dark world. I can't wait to read about Radianne's adventures in the next book!

Overview: Radianne Timblebrooke has grown bored with her life and aches for adventure. She finds it in the guise of a young fallen star, named Blink, who is depending on Radianne’s promise to return him to his home in the sky.

R.M. Anderson pens a charming and delightful fairytale in her coming-of-age fantasy adventure, “Starfall”. Complete with characters that are highly likable and thoroughly engaging, “Starfall” is a journey complete with unique lands and strange creatures, such as ogres called Snorgs, giant hermit crabs, vampiric mice, and mean blue elephants called Snorgs, to more helpful ones, like Miss Lucia—a giant ladybug, mermaids, and fairies. The author’s imagination shines through in her created creatures: the Floppersnogs—friendly furballs with giant plumes on their heads.

Like most fairytales, “Starfall” imbeds clean romance within its main plotline of adventure and discovery, and as Radianne and Blink’s journey progresses, the experienced and daring Henrick, the Wanderer—a character with a hidden past—adds excitement and action to the story as he vows to keep watch over the young woman and her celestial companion. As the three companions travel through a magical but dangerous world, they not only learn about each other’s pasts, they discover what each truly wants and needs for themselves in the future. Watch for this storyline to pick up dramatically once Thomas enters the picture.

The overall theme of Anderson’s novel is that life, at times, may seem humdrum and boring to anyone—even a mermaid—until something happens to take you away from all you know. But, only then can you have a proper appreciation for your own home and those whom you miss so
dearly.

Although it may be too intense for younger children, “Starfall” is a colorful, charming and romantic fairytale that will entertain older children (ages 9 and up), young teens, and their parents. I recommend this coming-of-age read for anyone who loves stories about imaginative creatures in strange lands, forging friendships, overcoming the odds, and going on new adventures.

Creative

This isn’t normally the genre I read so I can’t compare it but it was a cute story that was creatively assembled.
