Lovely Book. I'd recommend this one for those new to the crystal path, as well as to long-time crystal lovers and holistic workers. I particularly liked the chapter "Crystal Intelligence," as the merging of science and mysticism are a personal interest. This is definitely one to keep handy--a great resource guide.
This book was an enjoyable read. The author used to be a fashion stylist so her target market is models, fashionistas, etc. She relates certain crystals to green juice, skinny black jeans, and LBD - appealing to the sensibilities of her client base. I'm not her target audience, but I did find this informative and her fashion metaphors actually weren't annoying or off-putting. I like that she interviews geologists, gemologists, jewelry makers, shop owners, interior designers, and fellow spiritual practitioners. The different perspectives were interesting and different than other books I've read about crystals so far. A good introduction to the subject for style conscious seekers.
Informative, but it felt little too much like advertising as well. The pictures were beautiful though and there definitely some really interesting people that are interviewed.
tThis book should of been a magazine and not a book. Far too many interviews and not enough actual information. Perfect if you have live, laugh, love modern farmhouse signs in your house.
- A beautiful, visually-appealing book. - My favourite part of the book were her case studies of other teachers, mentors and friends in the field...I felt it rounded out the content, besides just providing basic crystal profiles (of which I'm already familiar with most of them.) - Lots of pretty pictures...and I do wish she included more content about the Q'ero Shamans of Peru and her trip! - A good basic book for crystal beginners.
Such a beautifully written book. I just New I would enjoy it. So inspiring and I love that Colleen has mixed up her shamanism with her love of fashion and style. Truly a beautiful book for anyone interested in crystals and fashion alike.
It definitely didn’t have the feel of a spiritual healing book or even read like one. With lots of pop culture references and some mild name dropping it felt more of an advertisement for the authors business than of a how-to book. It’s not one I would use as a reference.
Great intro to crystals! Info on what do so with crystals, which ones are right for you, and the experience behind it. Super interesting to read but also one I plan to keep out on the coffee table to refer back to in the future!
1.5 While there is definitely SOME useful info, picking through the stuff that isn't was tedious beyond belief. I would recommend this to no one. The use of "c-spot" for "chakra"? Pass.
I bought this book in the hopes that I would get a good introduction into crystals and their meanings, significances, uses, etc. It was recommended to me by the owner of a local witchy shop.
This book provided a thorough introduction to crystals. There are sections showcasing crystal experts from around the world; there is information on the background of working with crystals, in a variety of ways; there is extensive information regarding what crystals' meanings and uses are; the reader learns how to incorporate them into spellwork and healing; and more.
While this book wasn't exactly what I was expecting when I first purchased it, overall it was a book definitely worth reading. I learned a lot, and I will absolutely refer back to it in my work with crystals. (3.5 stars)
As a newbie to crystals, this book was fun, informative, and well-rounded. Although packed with compelling information including rituals, crystal care, inspiration, interviews, and much, much more, it’s an easy & quick read.
In previous comments, some people threw shade on the “name dropping” in this book but I enjoyed learning about how people from all walks of life utilize crystals - there was nothing in the content that made me feel as though Colleen was name-dropping.
I’d like to call out how gorgeous this book is, gorgeous enough to be a Coffee Table book -but one you actually want to read.
Yo Colleen, my hope is that you write more books, k? 🤩
Overall I liked the direct information and pictures about the crystals specifically. Otherwise I have a few things I don't like going on here. One is she talked about herself and her business a lot, as well as having interviews with a lot of other people which felt like name dropping and the interviews were really not necessary when you just want straight up info on crystals. She also sounded very egotistical throughout the book when speaking of herself and her business. The other is a few practices she listed feels like she's got some cultural appropriation going on here.
Fun, informational book with just the right info you need if you're starting out or need a refresher with crystals.
The only thing I didn't like was how she interviewed different healers. It seemed inconsistent and random for the book and more for a blog or magazine.
I enjoyed the audio book as a preview to actually buying the book. It helped me decide if I wanted to own it. It’s a beautiful book with lots of information.
"We often hear crystals referred to as "New Age," but in truth, crystal healing is an ancient, age-old form of medicine. Crystal healing is woven into the threads of some of our most historic civilizations. The Mayas, Incas, ancient Egyptians, Australian Aborigines, Native Americans, Celtic Druids, and more all traditionally used crystals in their healing practices. Shamans refer to the practice of placing crystals on someone's body for healing purposes as "the laying on of stones." Crystal healing is a holistic, noninvasive, vibrationally based system of energetic healing. Sparkly crystals, river rocks, polished stones, or faceted gems are laid at precise locations on and/or around a person's body to facilitate healing. Crystal healers believe that this practice treats the physical body as well as the LEF (Luminous Energy Field) around the body (also known as the Auric Body, the Auric Field, or the Energy Field). As crystals interact with people and the physical and energetic space surrounding us, they can absorb, defuse, direct, detoxify, focus, and shift our energy." Chapter 1 - pgs. 11-12
This is an excellent resource on Crystals and their myriad Healing properties, for novices, as well as those of us who have been using and benefitting from these Allies for many years! Colleen does a fantastic job of incorporating a lot of practical information into a book that size-wise is user-friendly, artistically laid out, chock full of colour photos, some illustrations, and an unexpected treat, interviews from a diverse range of people who use crystals and or have created innovative businesses, such as Consuelo Casarotto, Crystal Acupuncturist, and Anjanette Sinesio, Founder of Gem-Water to name a few. There are two distinct sections specifically focused on the Crystals themselves, with a breakdown of the 20 Crystals everyone should begin their journey with, and a mini encyclopedic listing of 50 Stones to aspire to add to your collection. Both these parts have a photo of the Stone, a list of the Chakras they're suitable for, the most beneficial methods of use, as well as an Affirmation that can be employed while working with the piece. A well thought out and insightful offering on a facet of Energy Medicine that is leading the charge into Holistic Alternative Healing Methods.
