Squeeee!!! Just discovered a new-to-me favourite author thanks to Carrie at Reading Is My Superpower blog. I love it when trusted reader friends encourage me to branch out and try something new.
I have to admit to not being current at all with indie published books mainly because they are usually only in ebook format or the paperbacks are hard to get or very pricey. But, woohooo, I discovered this one on audible and I am a huge Sparks brothers fan now! 'Cause Aiden has four brothers!!!! Which means four more forays into make-me-tizzy-giddy romances. I can't wait!
Happy sigh -- let me tell you, there's more than one single spark whenever Aiden and Abby get together -- more like a fireworks worth! And the way they meet -- snorty guffaw! Love the way Ho laced humour among the angst. A Single Spark is a snappy, well-paced contemporary romance that still has me grinning.
I listened to the audible version narrated by Lorana Hoopes. Loved her performance -- she definitely captured characters and emotions and made the listen a bibliophile delight.

A Roller Coaster of Emotion as an Unlikely Pair Spark an Unexpected Flame
I didn't know what I was getting into when I cracked open this book for a read. I found the premise amusing to say the least and I've enjoyed reading other books by this author before. So I was hoping for a sweet, heartwarming read.
It did not disappoint! Both main characters are flawed but lovable in their own unique ways. I found myself frustrated by them but still rooting for them. I wasn't much of a fan of the look-alike aspect of the story, but it was easy to overlook considering how much I wanted the couple to stop fighting and just realize they're an awesome match.
Love the running theme of iron sharpens iron. We need people who challenge us to be better. Aiden and Abby definitely do that to each other.
Also worth mentioning that there is a plethora of side characters you will want to root for. Can't wait to read about them in the next installments of this series!

This is a great story about Aiden, a former boy band star still mourning a lost love after 10 years. A series of God-inspired coincidences brings him in contact with Abby, a deejay that doesn’t trust men. It has a good blend of drama, humor, and relationship angst. It also introduces Aiden’s four brothers who apparently will be the subjects of their own books in the series. They are certainly interesting enough and the initial book good enough that I plan to read the entire series.

I was a little leery of this book when I read that one of the main characters was a celebrity. I usually don't enjoy those kind of stories. However, I've enjoyed Liwen Ho's other books, so thought I'd try this one. I was pleasantly surprised that she didn't over-emphasize the celebrity part, but stressed the hidden stories that everyone has, so that the characters felt “real” and I could sympathize with them. Ho does a great job with dialogue – it flows naturally. I enjoyed the book and will look forward to the others in the series. I received an ARC of this book for review. I'm not quite sure where to begin. There is some good but also some disappointments. I'll begin with the latter.
These characters are knocking on 40??? I've been 40 and I do not know a single 40 year-old who talks and acts like this. They acted like high schoolers or maybe 20 at the most. However, the narration is partly responsible for that. I normally like this narrator but not for this book. The phrase, "No freaking way!" became very tiresome.
The extreme amount of coincidences and the "frenemies to the nth degree" trope was on the cheesy side. Aiden/Zachary went from being rude and thoughtless to head-over-heels? His maturity level went from high school to grown up? Abby looks exactly like his deceased former fiancée?! It was things like these that made the story quite unbelievable.
There were some good aspects such as the love amongst the brothers and the promotion of paying it forward to others. I appreciated what Aiden did to pay tribute to his deceased fiancée but also to earn Abby's trust and respect. I do respect that the storyline contains scripture, faith, and a Christian worldview.
I may continue the series if I can find them to borrow, but I will avoid the audiobooks if I do. The voices for the female characters were particularly grating because they sounded like airy teenagers. The general tone of the book gives that impression of teens (not 40-ish) and the narration leans into that instead in excess. It did feel like the changes the main characters had to were a little sudden and things were 'wrapped up with a bow' very easily.

What an incredibly sweet book! I’ve read several of Liwen Ho’s books and enjoyed them, but I have to say this one is my favorite.
The writing is easy to read and the plot is quite engaging. The characters have deep hurts that have trapped them into bitter and unfulfilling lives. Aiden, in particular, doesn’t know how to get his old self back. Abby, on the other hand, is taking baby steps in her new life as a Christian when her world collides with Aiden’s. Aiden’s journey back to God is rocky and emotional, but totally real and meaningful. And the romance....I mean, who can resist a less-than-idyllic romance that blooms between a grown-up boy band lead singer and a radio DJ?
Then there are Aiden’s four younger brothers - a romance writer, a free-spirited ice cream shop owner, a firefighter, and a TV show actor. I cannot wait for the other books in the series to see how these brothers find their own romance!

Aiden Spark is trying to hide from the limelight of his former days as a boy band singer of Heartland when he accidentally sends a text to Abby, a DJ, and she gets her listeners calling in about who the mysterious Professor Z. Spark is. He is angry at first and slams her for using gossip to increase her ratings and tells her she should be using her platform for good. She decides to challenge her listeners to pay it forward and asks the artists whose songs they request to do the same. Aiden starts to feel a connection to Abby and not just because she looks like his deceased girlfriend, Mandy, and she makes him want to move forward with faith and happiness back into the spotlight. Nice Christian romance with plenty of humor and drama.

Aiden has been mourning a lost girlfriend from 10 years prior. Both have issues with love and relationships. Aiden is still not ready to move on with life, while Abby is slowly dipping her toes. With divine assistance, the two find their HEA.
This book has a quirky sense of humour, while dealing with so many other emotions. The story weaves in these feelings as it progresses. The characters are well developed and the storyline flows well. I look forward to reading the stories for the other brothers.

Very well written book. Well thought out characters and plot. Great beginning to a new series. It takes them a bit to warm up to each other.. I enjoyed how they fought against it at first. When you keep being put together you tend to gravitate and see where you are intended to go. There is a path you will follow to bring you to happiness. Letting go of the past is not always easy. We each grieve at our own pace. These two knew when it was right for them to begin their own happily ever after.

April 15, 2018I thoroughly enjoyed reading A Single Spark. I loved the main characters—one with a new faith and the other with a renewing faith. The characters are well developed, and I loved reading about how God was working in their lives. Liwen Ho has done a great job writing this story and also introducing the characters for the series. I am looking forward to the other books in this series to read the stories of the other brothers. This book has no cheating, no cliffhanger, and an HEA.

This was a sweet story and God centered. Aidan having issues for a long time getting over his true love who died of cancer. Throughout the book it intertwined with many happenings that spark your interest. Most important was Abby the DJ whom he accidentally texted. You learn about the spark brothers and other characters for the future series books. I love the ending on what Aidan did to correct mistakes and convince Abby. Nice short read. Looking forward to reading about other spark brothers.

While this is a cute read, and a good start to the series (the other characters are introduced in ways that don't feel forced) this was just not a read for me.
I struggled to suspend my disbelief a lot throughout the read. It's incredibly hard to believe that:

I believe this is a great start to a new series. I liked the premise of the story, though I thought that Aiden spent too many years getting over the death of his teenage girlfriend. He meets Abby who reminds him of his deceased love except her personality is the polar opposite which divides them. But God keeps throwing them together and they start looking at each other differently. The story wraps up nicely and I look forward to the next in the series and hope we get a sneak peek at theses characters throughout the series. “A Single Spark” is an enjoyable read…not very deep, but sweet and funny! I found it relaxing with an interesting plot; it wouldn’t keep you on the edge. The dialogues between the characters are entertaining. The faith shines through! And the introduction to the other Sparks is intriguing. The only reason I give 4.5 stars is the “No. Freaking. Way.” phrase being overused in the book to my opinion 😊

This is a well written book with an interesting story line. The characters are strong and the story flows smoothly. The author brings drama and humor to go along with the romance. I enjoyed reading Abby and Aiden's story and watching their relationship evolve.

Sparks are definitely flying between Aiden and Abby but are they good or bad ones? Appreciated the Christian aspect and it was a sweet, clean romance. There is angst which some of it was quite humorous but they do get a hea.

Liwen Y. Ho wove her magic and quickly drew me into her story. I was very intrigued and curious about Aiden Sparks right from the beginning. What a beautiful story of a love lost too young, grief, turning to God, and faith in God showing the way to live ones life. I am so glad there are four more Sparks' brothers because I cannot wait to read their uplifting stories. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

A Single Spark by Liwen Y. Ho is the story of the chance encounter between Aiden Z. Spark, former member of a boy band now turned professor of the "Intro to Women Studies" class (!), and Abigail (who can go by Abby or Gail) Dearan, deejay at a popular local radio station. Little do they know that a certain text message sent not to its intended recipient by mistake will lead to a second chance in love for the girl who had already sworn off men, and for the guy who still wasn't over the loss of his high school girlfriend. Well, that, and the help of a certain group of meddlers, aka Aiden's brothers plus Abby's friends.
What really hooked me was the intrigue with which the book starts and the wondering of how long it would last till the two MCs met. Of course, there was also the issue of how those two would react once they knew who the other one really was, but that also added to the fun of it. What I didn't expect was for this book to be heavily dosed with Christian references, but I absolutely loved every reminder that I found along the way. Also, I didn't expect to like so much the rest of the Spark's brothers, but now I'm eagerly awaiting their own books (and rooting for them to also find their own HEA).
All in all, Ms. Ho's deliver another really great book that can be devoured in one (or, given the necessity, two) sitting(s).

So, I've been reading a lot of romances lately, and they tend to rely on some suspension of disbelief to bring about all that HEA. I get that. However, maybe not THIS many deus-ex-machina plot miracles to bring the lovers together. Tooooooo many coincidences, and all of them--this is Christian fiction--explained by God's will at work to bring our earnest protagonists together. Do I quibble too much? In real life, someone tells me about a coincidence that seems nudged by the Deity and I think, Yup, no problem with that. Why am I queasy about it in this fiction? It feels like it's cheating the plot and the characters. Maybe the conflict and world creation isn't real enough to support that kind of un-earned coincidence. I thought I'd give Christian fiction a try; can someone recommend a better starting place?, because this didn't feel like any kind of compelling portrayal of the compelling life of faith that I experience. I wanted something real; instead, after the coincidences got too saccharine (40%?) I skipped to the last chapter and thought...uh, yeah, didn't miss much.

There’s so much to love about this story. A handsome college professor so lost in his grief that he doesn’t want to be found. A young woman who has just discovered faith in God but has no faith in men may be the answer to put a spark back in Professor Sparks life.
What seems like a string of crazy coincidences may really be divine intervention.
The characters are deep and well written. The faith aspects are so intricately woven into the story that you can see God working in their lives and loves.
The introduction of each of the brothers makes readers excited that this is book one in a series with more Sparks to come.

What a fun new series! The Spark brothers are a fun bunch, I can't wait to read all their stories. Aiden and Abby had quite the uphill battle, but they both put their faith and trust in the Lord to climb to the top. I loved their story and their spiritual growth. This is a fun and beautiful story!

This is the 1st book of The Spark Brothers. Loving this book. This book made me cry, encouraged and also definitely swoon. Love how Aiden and Abby encourage one another by helping each other to realize what they should do. And they really put God in the centre of their relationship like praying to God about the things that their struggling with and also the relationship between is it God’s will to be together. Loving Aiden’s brothers and also Candy and Danica who continues to pushes them to give love a second chance.
One thing, that I wish this book had been the lyrics to the songs that Aiden wrote.
What I learn:
No one is perfect. That’s why all of us need God. We are humans we do fall but God will never leave us. He is always seeking for us and He is waiting for us to come back to him and seek Him.
I enjoyed reading Aiden and Abby’s story and can’t wait to read the 2nd book of the Spark Brothers. It will be Brandon’s story for the 2nd book.

Review 📚
This is the 1st book of The Spark Brothers. Loving this book. This book made me cry, encouraged and also definitely swoon. Love how Aiden and Abby encourage one another by helping each other to realize what they should do. And they really put God in the centre of their relationship like praying to God about the things that their struggling with and also the relationship between is it God’s will to be together. Loving Aiden’s brothers and also Candy and Danica who continues to pushes them to give love a second chance.
One thing, that I wish this book had been the lyrics to the songs that Aiden wrote.
What I learn:
No one is perfect. That’s why all of us need God. We are humans we do fall but God will never leave us. He is always seeking for us and He is waiting for us to come back to him and seek Him.
I enjoyed reading Aiden and Abby’s story and can’t wait to read the 2nd book of the Spark Brothers. It will be Brandon’s story for the 2nd book.

I loved this book! I'm not normally into antagonistic relationships and that's how Abby and Aiden's starts, all because of a missent text. Aiden has good reasons for wanting to preserve his identity. His old life is long past. In his suffering back then, he'd made a lot of mistakes that he's not proud of and has worked to build a new life, one that DJ Abby could ruin.
The chemistry sparks (see what I did there?) from the beginning. The two actually have a lot in common if they can get past their prickliness. The story builds to an almost comedy of errors scene. Things aren't quite resolved then, but a happily for now is in store. I'm really looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

A Single Spark by Liwen Y. Ho
My rating is 4.5 Stars
A Single Spark is a great start to this series about the Spark brothers. Author Liwen Ho blends faith and romance in this story of overcoming grief and learning to trust.
Sparks fly as Abby and Aiden first encounter each other, but not in a good way. She represents the things that cause him pain and manages to push his buttons. When they go out on a blind date, things seem to go so well until Aiden realizes who Abby is and without thinking, flees and leaves her holding the check.
The story flows very naturally as it introduces the various Spark brothers and the important people in their lives as it sets the stage for the other books that are to come. I think I already have a favorite brother, Colin. I also really liked Abby’s friend Danica and the great spiritual advice she shared with Abby.
Abby needed to learn some important lessons about controlling her tongue and not allowing the past actions of those who hurt her affect the way she treats the people in her life now. She needed to work through many insecurities.
The story is long enough to be complete and short enough to be a quick and satisfying read when you only have a few hours to spare.

This is a new author and series for me. I love the idea of a whole family of guys whose last name is Spark. What fun this series is going to be.
I’ve enjoyed reading this first book with Aiden and Abby. They are both so full of spunk and determination. The way they meet and interact is so delightful and crazy. There truly were sparks flying, some good and some bad!
I think you will get a kick out of this book and the whole story of finding love even when at first it seems there’s no spark!
Liwen Y. Ho is a new-to-me author and I know I will be reading more of her books. Her writing is smooth and the story flows with wonderful characters and dialogue. I had a problem of not wanting to put this book down. It truly was enjoyable! I was truly caught up in the story and didn’t want it to end.
The relationships with friends and families are so real. When we can put ourselves in the characters’ lives and understand the pains and joys, that is what makes a book great! This author has done that!
I see there are more books in this series with each of the brothers, now I’m looking forward to reading more of these fun characters!

Aiden is a professor who accidentally texts the wrong person, thinking that it's a student. When Abby receives his text, she becomes intrigued. Using her platform as a DJ, she calls out the professor on the radio. Little does she know that Aiden is a former member of her favorite boyband from growing up, Heartland. Abby and Aiden don't get along at first and they spar with each other on and off the air. They want nothing to do with each other but they keep getting thrown together. After a little time getting to know the real versions of themselves and not their public personas, they begin to have feelings for each other. They both have their reservations about going forward but will they trust God to lead the way?
I listened to the audio version of this book which I don't normally do but I was busy this week and it was the only way for me to read. Since the book itself is fairly short, this was probably the best way for me to receive it. If I had read it quickly, I probably would have thought it was too short. But listening, I enjoyed it. I thought it was a cute concept for a story with lots of humor and misunderstandings. I got annoyed with Abby a few times because it seemed kind of immature how she responded in a few situations. There were also a few cheesy moments. But generally, I thought it was a cute story, with good humor in it. I had a good time listening to it.
