Shake It Up Man Of The Month #8 J. Kenner ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I know I say it every review for The Man Of The Month, but these stories just get better and better. From 1st time to love, to rekindled to , well just about any love J. Kenner winds into a can’t put down read. Landon and Taylor were no different.
With a threat against her, Taylor turns to the The Fix’s security guy, Brent to help her out. He enlists, Landon Ware, Austin‘s police departments detective, what he doesn’t know is that Landon has seen Taylor around and keeping her safe is not a problem. Landon knows he’s much older, and shouldn’t have eyes for her, but like a kid in a candy store, dangling sweets will only have you wanting them more.
For Taylor, she seems to have in the run most of her young life, but now things have gotten serious, and she’s in danger. Turning to Landon should be perfect, but feelings towards him make it much harder. Keeping her safe is one thing, but keeping her hands off him is something very different. Landon takes keeping Taylor safe very seriously, and having her to himself is perfect.
As the story heats up, and it becomes very clear Taylor’s life is very much in danger, it pushes a button deep inside Landon, realising keeping her safe through his job Is one thing but wanting her in his bed and arms every night trumps everything else. Ending in a hail of bullets, one man won’t survive, and Taylor will depend in Landon like no other.
I have to say, this series is so well written and will go down as one of my all time favourites. Intertwined stories mean that each book is individually their own, but glimpses of other favourites mean that their stories will always continue. I love The Fix, family.
Taylor finds her past has come back to haunt her and she either needs to skip town or trust in Landon to protect her. Landon has a thing for Taylor but he's kept his distance due to her younger age. When she gets threatened, his need to protect her gave him the perfect excuse to get closer to her.
I'm such a sucker for an older man/younger woman story. I was afraid there was going to be some major pushing away since we learned in a previous book that Landon was burned in his past. Thankfully, that didn't happen. While they didn't fall in love at first site, they also didn't resist the attraction. I enjoyed reading about this couple. I wish it was a bit longer so we could have gotten more.
Brief Series Description: The Man of the Month series all started when the local bar called The Fix on Sixth, owned by Tyree, was on the verge of closing. Long time friends Jenna, Reece, and Brent jump in to invest in the bar and come up with ways to raise money and to bring more customers in. One of those ideas was to hold a Calendar of the Month contest in the bar focusing on local celebrities. Each book in the series represents the man of that month.
How very lackluster & unimaginative. #Sorry #NotSorry
To write my review I went back and took a look at the blurb and wow the blurb is amazing. That should have been a sign. Was she too young? 11 years and seeing she was nearly 25 I don’t consider that to be jailbait.
Apparently she is too ambitious, yeah really saw none of that in the book. It was mentioned once that after her masters she wanted to go to LA or NY but as soon as she was with the Hero she was looking for jobs in Texas.
She’s his job, yeah only because you offered you twit and it’s not a job if you don’t get paid so you were actually doing Brent and Taylor a favour.
Usually Ms. Kenner can grip me with her writing and banter at least but here nada, zero, and zilch. It was torture to read. The whole stalker trope has been done so many times. *Yawn* It was like re-inventing the wheel. But churning out so many books in such a short period of time must have given her a lack of ideas.
It’s your typical trope, the villain has been caught but he escapes, hunts down the heroine shite hits the fan, the Hero is the knight in armour and it is all swept under the carpet because it is the end of the book. It was a whirlwind of a book and not in a good way.
I skimmed. There I said it. It was either that or throw my kindle through the room or dnf it. Not even the sex scenes could save it.
I hope you are all looking forward to my review of the Man of the Month series as much as I look forward to reading them every 2 weeks. And, it's definitely worth repeating, I am amazed that J. Kenner is able to make each and every one of these books a little different. They all have a little mystery behind them but, the main theme is the love that comes pouring off of the pages. The connections between the couples is electrifying and you could feel, not only the love, but the respect that they have for each other. Now, on to Mr. August … Landon, and the woman he's been lusting after, Taylor.
Laid back, cool and even-tempered Landon. He can't help himself when it comes to Taylor. Someone is stalking her … okay, he'll make sure he catches the bastard intimidating her, scaring her. He'll also find out what she's not telling him. Then, he'll walk away. She's too young for him and, after his last disaster, he knows being a detective is not conducive with a relationship. But, there is something different about her. He's able to open up to her, to talk about anything and everything. He's realizing that, even though the sex is phenomenal, she's an amazing, strong woman with a past that she is ashamed of. Well, he'll just have to help her with that too.
Taylor has a past that is coming back to haunt her. The perfect life she has made in Austin could all be lost. Realizing everything that she has here, she's determined to fight to keep it. Thanks to the man of her dreams, the safety net he's thrown around her, she has someone to help her fight this battle. She knows that, once he knows the whole truth, he'll run. Why would a detective stay with a felon? She's surprised when he does learn her secret and comes up with a solution to it all. She's lusted after this muscled man for a while but now finds out that getting to know him, his family, his heart … it's love. Can they make a life together?
God, Landon was hot but, it was what was underneath the muscles, the tats that had me swooning. Heart of gold, sweet, endearing and determined. You couldn't ask for a better man to fall in love with. And, J. Kenner brought this man to life. I'm loving how she is not making them feel unattainable, that you could possible walk into a bar like The Fix on Sixth and meet someone like him. This takes talent, people … real talent. I haven't read one of these books without feeling a true connection to the men and women written on these pages. The friendships are sincere, there is nothing that they wouldn't do to help out the other and the love you feel from every one of them is genuine. Yes, lots of talent to write a twelve book series with engaging characters that keep you coming back for more.
SHAKE IT UP by J. Kenner this is book 8 in the Man of the Month series. This is the story of Landon and Taylor. I have read the previous book in this series and you can easily make this a standalone book....but you will enjoy it more if you read them in order I think. Taylor has a stalker and she thought she was in the clear with her new life but he has found her and is stalking her again. Landon works for the police force but is on a three week vacation and he is asked by his friend to help protect Taylor. Landon felt something for Taylor the fist time she ran into him...so he is all about protecting her. But she is a lot younger than him so he has put his feeling on hold until now. Taylor too has felt a connection with Landon from the start but with her past coming back can she have a future? Really enjoyed their story!!
Shake It Up is the eighth book in J. Kenner’s Man of the Month series, and it’s yet another winner. I’ve been a fan of this series since book one, yet each additional book sucks me in ever deeper. I find myself desperately awaiting the release of the next book, counting down the days until it appears on my Kindle. Each time a new one appears, I devour it, starting the cycle all over again. Knowing we’re nearing the end of the series is not doing me much good – I’m already starting to panic about what series I can addictively read next. Until that moment comes, however, I will continue to consume these books as though they are more vital than oxygen.
The Man of the Month series is a collection of interconnected romance stories, proving individual stories as a larger story plays out. Each novel features a favourite romance trope, ensuring there is something for everyone. The first book, Down on Me, provided us with the friends-to-lovers trope; the second book, Hold on Tight, provided us with the second chance romance; the third book, Need You Now, provided us with the brother’s best friend trope; the fourth book, Start Me Up, provided us with the one-night stand; the fifth book, Get It On, provided us with the secret baby trope; the sixth book, In Your Eyes, provided us with the bad boy billionaire; the seventh book, Turn Me On, provided us with the friends with benefits trope. With book eight, Shake It Up, we’re given a handful of things – the main one being the May-December romance, the age gap.
Although each book is an individual story with a start and an end, I would recommend reading these books in order. To understand some of the details of the story in full, you need to understand how things came to be throughout the prior books. You’re certainly told, to ensure you have the basic facts to understand the story, but it is not the same as experiencing all that happened – for a bigger picture, read the series in order. Now that we’re over half way through the series, there are a lot of nods to past events and other couples – plus, you start to notice when prior books were making nods towards the events that are now playing out. By no means am I saying you need to go back and read all the books, but I am saying you will appreciate this series much more if you read things in order. Plus, it’s nice to watch how the underlying story is playing out.
With each book in this series you go in with certain expectations – you have an idea of how the trope plays out and you know who is to be the man of the month. Despite this, you’re interested in seeing how the little details play out – and for those following the series, you’re interested in seeing the additional elements added to the overall story. Although we’re never given anything new to the genre, we’re always given something unique to keep us wanting more. In this case, we’re given more through a number of favourite elements being thrown into one story. As I mentioned, we have the age gap – we also have the favourite of female running from her past, police officer being sucked into said past, and the romance that blooms between two unlikely individuals. These things more than make the book worth the read.
In truth, this did make the book a bit predictable in places. I feel as though it was overly easy to work out how certain elements would play out, along with these elements overshadowing the age gap (honestly, I felt as though that disappeared for most of the book only to rear up every so often as a single sentence reminder), yet despite these things I would label Shake It Up one of my favourite books in the series. It is not my favourite in the series, but it is one of the ones I’ll most remember.
Overall, a must read for fans of the Man of the Month series. I’m not crazy excited about the couple in the next book, but I’m positive I’ll love the story. The last few books, however, have me insanely excited.
Yea, so I hate to say this, but this book disappointed me. And I think I am even more disappointed because I have been loving this series so far.
I loved the blurb and was looking forward to Landon's story with Taylor. Taylor's life is being threatened and Landon is tasked with keeping an eye on her. As things progress, he finds himself wanting to be more than just the officer sent to protect her.
Ok. So here is where I felt let down with this book - I could not see the physical chemistry between these two. It's like the adrenaline from everything going on got these two caught up in it and they acted out that by letting themselves lean on each other and connect physically. Other than that, I had a hard time seeing the connection. I felt like the connection was pushed and unrealistic.
Aside from that, I did enjoy those scenes - not going to hide that fact at all. Kenner has the knack for making the scenes hot as hell and I love for that. This book was just ok for me. I am in the minority on this one so if the blurb hooks you, give it a go.

J. Kenner shakes it up with her latest eighth installment to the Man of the Month series. In Shake It Up, Kenner treats her readers to the older man and younger woman trope. While this book might not be my favorite of the series, this book does shakes it up with a romance of two people whose attraction were bound to happen. When Taylor is in need of protection, Brent is the officer who will find himself wanting to mix business with pleasure. So what happens when Brent is not only finding himself protecting her but also becoming enamored with her?
As always, Kenner writes a fast paced romance that has romantic elements that would keep any reader entertained.
Damn, Landon . . . I’ve been waiting for your broody story and whoa, I was not disappointed!
I loved your immediate need to protect Taylor. Adored your attempt to keep your feelings in check. Cheered for you to break through Taylor’s protective shields—to break down the wall surrounding her heart and gain her trust. And, I needed a fan to cool off from all the sexiness.
And Taylor. God, I just wanted to wrap you up in a big hug and tell you everything would be all right. I loved you heart. Your tenacity. Your drive to succeed. Your fight to be something, someone bigger and better than your past.
I adored Landon and Taylor’s quickly developed relationship. They’re perfect for each other and I couldn’t get enough of them and their story in Shake It Up. Landon is the ideal Mr. August! Can’t wait for more in this fantastic Man of the Month series. ~ Missy, 5 stars
Taylor & Mr. August aka Brent, was one of the exciting book in the series with it's thrilling suspense. We saw a little bit of Taylor's past coming back to haunt her in the previous book, but as the saying goes can't run away form the past too long, it will always catch up.
Unfortunately Taylor's past may be dark, but it's a perfect in for our police office hottie Brent to step in to offer his protection. Lines blur, protective alpha gets activated, and the result is an awesome story.

Taylor and Landon have chemistry and the attraction to one another is one that Landon feels needs to be ignored, as she is just too young.
But, chemistry and proximity aren't always something that you can ignore, and this book is about what happens when they are no longer able to be ignored.
The Fix on Sixth books, as I have said before in other reviews, are shorter and interconnected. Some of them work better for me than others, and this was one of them that I didn't love. Don't get me wrong, I didn't dislike this title, but it was not my most favorite and I thought the scenes and the storyline were a little choppy.
That said, it was enjoyable, I am looking forward to the next one, and I do recommend this title.
SHAKE IT UP by J. Kenner this is book 8 in the Man of the Month series. This is the story of Landon and Taylor. Taylor has a stalker and she thought she was in the clear with her new life but he has found her and is stalking her yet again. Landon promises to help keep her safe from this stalker- how can he? Landon is a police officer on vacation whose friends with Brent. Taylor had asked Brent what to do because she didn’t want to run again and that’s how Landon and Taylor were introduced. Taylor is 10 years younger than Landon yet that doesn’t stop the intense attraction between these two. Landon was gently possessive but also so very protective. Taylor finds herself being more and more drawn to Landon while Landon knows he shouldn’t get so entranced by Taylor yet he cant help himself. The more time they spend together, the harder it is to stay away. As they unravel the mystery of the stalker, will they find their relationship stronger for this experience or will this have pushed this too far apart?
My Rating: 4.4 stars ***** “I received an advanced copy of this book from the author at no cost to me."
I LOVE a good stalker romance. Yea, maybe its done up a lot in romances but for me, I consider it a classic and J. Kenner ROCKED it in Shake It Up! We get a lot of scrumptious heat with this book but also something different than what we had gotten with previous Man of The Month books and that is more suspense and that perked me RIGHT up. Now I enjoyed ALL the Man of the Month stories so far. Honestly I loved them all. But Shake It Up really made my blood simmer with all the action in between HOT chemistry and great banter. In my opinion, you really can't go wrong with a story by J. Kenner and Shake It Up was EXTRAORDINARY!
Taylor and Landon try hard to deny the attraction and chemistry between them, which makes things more heated and more passionate when they finally fee enough to let it out. It made me want to pant and get some ice to rub on my face and neck to cool myself down. Add in the banter, the energy and heart pounding action and you get a story that is undeniably well written. I can't wait for the next one!
Shake It Up gets a EXTRAORDINARY FIVE SHOOTING STARS!
Shake It Up – that’s exactly what J. Kenner does with the 8th installment of her Man of the Month series because Landon and Taylor’s story is romantic suspense unlike the previous books, but readers need not worry about anything else being ‘shook up’ because Kenner still gives her readers a quick and dirty read and definitely leaves them satisfied;)
Mr. August is a police officer turned body guard who volunteers to protect a woman who he has been attracted to since the first time they met, which means this may be the best thing for him or the worst, considering he’s supposed to ‘guard’ her body not give into the desire to own her body and soul.
Readers can guess how well Landon fights his attraction to Taylor while they’re constantly in close proximity to each other, but even though he does cross the line, it’s clear that Landon and Taylor share an intense connection that they both want to explore, so even though she’s eleven years younger than him and is being stalked by an extremely dangerous man from her past, they can’t get enough of one another
Readers familiar with the Man of the Month series will already have some knowledge of who Taylor is, but it’s not until Shake It Up that we learn about her past and the bad things that were supposed to be behind her. I definitely think that because Taylor is a familiar face that her and Landon’s story will have readers even more invested in the plot line and Taylor’s safety and the added suspense and the anticipation of the stalker striking also will keep readers’ interest and have them anxiously turning the pages to find out what happens with both Landon and Taylor’s relationship as well as the outcome of a very dangerous situation.
8 men have been selected for the calendar to help raise money for The Fix, which means we’re down 4, and I, for one, can’t wait to see who graces the other months of the year and who J. Kenner puts in these men’s path to shake up their lives as well as their hearts.
This was an epic read by J. Kenner. An explovise relationship between Taylor and Landon. Taylor who thought her pass was behind her until the unexpected start happening. Landon determine to protect at all cost regardless of Taylor pass..
We have two books in a row that I liked from this series. Dare I hope that the next book will be good too? I have only one tiny favor to ask. Can we get rid of Reece and Megan? I am starting not to like the mention of Jenna and it sours my reading experience. These threes people were the only thing I didn't like in the book and they tent to ruin things for me. Does that make me a bad person? It's Reece's fault after all. Thankfully they don't appear much and most of the spotlight falls on the two main characters. I wish they had some time to explore their relationship, but since the books in the series are short, I feel like the author did the best she could with the limited space. I felt like I knew Taylor and I was happy to see that her character was explored so much. She is my favorite lady and in second place is Mina who happens to be her best friend and the best secondary character I read about in this book. I would have liked to see a little bit more of what made Landon Landon. I would have liked to dive deeper into his story.
The book had some flaws. The stalker storyline has been told a thousand times and just when I thought that we could have a little twist from the original story I was proven wrong and the whole situation was a familiar one. I was not disappointed with the book though. It had some good parts that outweighed the bad.
The secondary characters are from the previous and from the future books and I feel like things have become a little crowded. I hope that in the next few books some characters won't appear and it will be less of a headache to remember who is everyone.
Taylor is the stage manager for The Man of the Month competition at The Fix; following the dramatic events at the end of Turn Me On it is obvious Taylor has been keeping secrets and now those secrets have caught up to her. threatening everything she has worked so hard to build.
Landon is a police officer and close friend of The Fix's resident security Brent. Sparks have flown between Landon and Taylor for a long time. However, the age difference and Landon's own baggage have prevented him from making a move. Taking on the role of protector comes naturally for Landon although he has a personal interest in making sure Taylor remains safe.
Tension runs high throughout Shake It Up form the incredible chemistry and fireworks between Taylor and Landon to the thriller element of the skeletons in Taylor's closet rattling the future she is trying to build. Unable to deny the current flowing between them the relationship and connection between Taylor and Landon progresses quickly.
I really liked the way in which both Taylor and Landon were able to work through the emotional baggage that has been holding them back in all aspects of their personal lives. I especially liked how Taylor was determined to take control of her life when she has spent most of her life having her actions dictated by the specters that have constantly haunted her. Some things are worth fighting for - love, friendship and a magnificent support system are high on the list :)
~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~
This is the eighth book in the series - so we are expecting to meet Mr August ! Do make sure you read these in order, as the underlying story and many of the characters run through every book.
I am loving how we are being shown the into the deepest elements of people that have been in the story all along. Taylor has been a fun part of the girl gang so far, but now we discover that she has overcome some very dark and difficult times in her past. And sadly they may be about to re-enter her live, and ruin in forever. Fortunately her friends at The Fix may just have the power to help her ... if she lets them. And Taylor shows great strength in doing just that ... trust her friends to help her. It has the added bonus of meaning that the man she has been crushing on for a while, Landon, is the one to step forward.
Landon is so glad that he is getting a chance to show Taylor he cares, in fact by the end, we get the very romantic ending that we want. But I shall leave you to find out how it all works out!
Once again the epilogue gives us a big hint as to what is in store for book 9.
5 Star Review Shake It Up (Man of the Month #8) by J Kenner This is the eight book in the series and is Taylor and Landon’s story. Shake It Up is a fun quick story which was extremely well written and a great read. Every time I read the books in this series, I don’t think that it can beat the previous ones but this one has. Landon makes me swoon, not only is he a detective with a heart of gold, he is everything that I love in a hero. Taylor is in trouble, her past has finally caught up with her and now not only is she in danger but those that she has come to care for are as well. This book had it all, smoking scenes and intense heat between the characters as well as drama, suspense and intrigue. Landon has been interested in Taylor since he first saw her and the attraction is mutual. When danger rears it’s ugly head, Landon steps in to protect her. Can Landon keep Taylor safe? Or will her past finally catch up with Taylor and destroy the happiness she has found with Landon and her friends at The Fix. One click now and find out. The books in this series can easily be read as stand alone, but since they are not that long and a quick and easy read I would recommend you one click them all. I am excited to see what happens in the next book; bring on Mr. September.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book, given by the author. https://thesecretworldofbooklovers.bl... So it is Taylor and Landon's turn, and all I can think about is, where is this place where every woman that shows up meets her perfect other half!? It sounds a lot like paradise to me.
Of course what brings them together is no joke, Taylor has been hiding and it looks like her past has caught up with her. She is in need of a saviour and there comes the last person she expected.
She's had a connection with Landon from the first time they saw each other but up until now they had never really hung out.
The current situation put them together in a way that makes it impossible for them to hold back.
But Landon still has doubts. She is too young for him, and he has also been burnt before, so trusting her is a problem for him.
We know how attraction works though, even though they try to fight it there is something so intense between them that it's not easy for them to stay away from each other.
Falling was the easy part, now they have to trust each other to survive this hell.
I cannot believe we are already on book #8 in the Man of the Month Series, Shake It Up!! Ready to meet Mr. August?
We’ve gotten glimpses of Taylor throughout the series, but we now know about her past. She’s had some difficult times and it look as though it all may be coming right back to her. But, the people at The Fix aren’t about to stand by and just watch this all go down, and in comes Landon, who Taylor is interested in.
Landon is finally getting the opportunity he wants to show Taylor that he can be the one to keep her safe. They both have to overcome their pasts to be able to succumb to their feelings, and when they do all bets are off and Landon will do anything to keep Taylor safe.
This was another great read by J. Kenner! I enjoyed everything about this book and look forward to book #9!!
Another great addition to the Man of the Month series, probably my favorite so far.
Taylor is being stalked and Landon has sworn to protect her. The problem is that Taylor is 10 years younger than Landon and should be off limits, but once Landon realizes that Taylor feels the same way things start to move very quickly. Add the additional danger element the ride is just getting started.
I keep saying how much I love each and every book in this series. This one especially - Ms Kenner ups the anty with forbidden love (perceived forbidden anyway) and Taylor's life on the line. Landon seems laid back but once he puts on his badge on to protect Taylor he is anything but laid back. The book is a quick read but the characters are fully developed in this fast-paced book. This is a standalone so you can read it by itself but take the time to read the first 8 - its well worth it.
When Taylor is in danger she is pointed towards local police detective Landon Ware. Taylor is young but the chemistry between them is off the charts hot. I will do everything to protect Taylor's body even give and make her mine, but will that put her in more danger? Meet Landon Ware our August Man of the Month. This series is so good and every couple we meet just make it better and better. Landon and Taylor are definitely a great Great story with great characters. I can't wait to meet Mr. September.
Another quick read. This series is perfect for getting a quick fix for a bit of sexy romance.
Landon and Taylor’s story was filled with wonderful chemistry and lots of suspense. With Taylor as the strong woman trying her best to make it on her own and Landon stepping in to protect her when she needs it, their story was a quick build up trust-resulting in a speedy evolution from friendship to love.
Perfect for in between book hangovers or filling those couple of hours when you want to sneak in a good romance.
This is the best one of the series yet. I could not put this one down. Every page was filled with great characters, believable dialogue, intriguing plot and passion that leaps off the pages. Landon and Taylor instantly click and they have become my favorite couple in the entire series. I absolutely recommend this book and the entire series.
I loved Taylor and Landon's story. These two were crazy attracted to each other but both held back..until Taylor started receiving random notes and she needed his help to find the stalker. The story was a whirlwind and I liked the added suspense.
Shake It Up was an exciting and satisfyingly romantic book that had me cheering on our lovebirds from page one. Great chemistry, mutual respect, and a thread of danger made this a captivating tale.
I have no idea how J. Kenner is keeping each installment in her sexy Man of the Month series so fresh and interesting, but I’m loving the tropes, the unique pairings and the oh-so steamy romances she’s created so far. Landon and Taylor’s story was actually more of a romantic suspense, with Taylor being stalked and Landon as her bodyguard of sorts, which made for a lot of yummy tension. Read More
Say hello to my new favourites of this fabulous series. Taylor and Landon’s story kept me on my toes right from the start.
We ended our last story with a brick being thrown through Taylor’s car. When more mysterious things begin to happen, she no longer thinks the brick was an accident. Brent, head of security at The Fix, has a friend of his step in and look into the situation. Landon is perfect for the job but unfortunately he finds it hard to focus when Taylor is around him.
The love story, the background plot, the side characters.. everything about this one just fit. It was nice to see a story where not just the love story was the main conflict, though you can’t help but root for these two all the way along. Loved it!
