College sophomore Lucas has never been kissed--until the night he goes into heat.
Lucas has big plans. He wants to graduate, go to law-school and become an advocate for omega rights. To accomplish all that, though, there's a secret he needs to keep—no one can ever discover that he’s omega. So far, everything’s gone to plan, until he finds himself rooming with the hottest alpha on campus.
At first glance, Adam seems to have it all. He's an alpha, a star player on the college football team and heir to his parents' extremely successful business. His future is secure--except it's not the future he wants. He's not interested in their money or the willing omegas his mother would love to set him up with. What he is interested in is his new roommate, though he knows his chances are slim. Lucas is a beta after all, and beta males are rarely interested in other men. Still, he has to try his luck, even if it means disappointing his parents.
A drink too many at a frat party leads to a night of passion—and unexpected consequences for both young men. While Lucas fights to save the career he’s always dreamed of, Adam fights to save the family he never knew he wanted. And they learn that, together, all battles can be won.
While this book is set in the same universe as the Oceanport Omegas series, knowledge of that series is not necessary to enjoy this story.
Ann-Katrin Byrde is a writing duo comprised of Ana J. Phoenix and Kate Lowell. As a team they strive to bring you the best mpreg stories they can. They both love to write, read and dream. In their spare time, you can often catch them hunting wild plot bunnies in the fields of their imagination.
My second book by Ann-Katrin Byrde and this one is just as much fun!
Roommates is listed as being part of the Oceanport Omegas universe, but I didn't have any trouble enjoying this one as a standalone.
Ann-Katrin Byrde has laid down an interesting Omegaverse. There are alphas, betas, and omegas, as well as males and females. I enjoy getting this variety in the culture and the impact that creativity can add to the stories.
The audio is performed by John Solo who does a wonderful job with these characters. His wide variety of voices suits this cast perfectly (the one he uses for Adam is adorable).
Light on angst, a super sweet romance, and an interesting storyline, I'm looking forward to exploring the Oceanside Omegas series.
I was given an audiobook copy of Roommates for the purpose of my honest review
This was a pretty good read that I liked. Lucas has plans when he graduates college he wants to go to law Lucas is hiding a secret he is an omega masking as a beta. Adam is the a hot sexy alpha he is the star player on the football team with dreams of going pro and he is his new roommate. This was a cute story Lucas wants to be a lawyer for omega rights and when he and Adam begin having sex they have an accident and he thinks that all of his plans will be ruined. I liked this book and these authors. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.
I adore the idea of roommates falling for each other. The I’m-trying-so-hard-to-resist-you tension and desire encased in tight, shared quarters—like a dorm room—is too much fun to pass up for me. These two roomies do not disappoint with the cute and sexy!
Lucas, a college sophomore, is hiding his “omega”-ness so he can study law. Omegas are not taken seriously in certain studies and paths in life, so Lucas is posing as a beta to get by at school. He’s been successfully hiding his true self with no problem until he has to room with Adam, the sexiest alpha on campus! Adam is a senior big man on campus and the football field. He appears to have it all at his fingertips. But Adam’s un-“alpha” like goals in life may just surprise Lucas. I loved watching these two get closer and closer. Huddled together studying, glimpses of skin, luring scents, warm touches, building tension—OH MY! Lucas and Adam are definitely attracted to each other, but can they learn to look past their labels to trust and share what they really want in life?
The pace and plot were a bit stiff at times with a few holes here and there , but overall I enjoyed this unique look and spin on the alpha, beta, omega world. A strong “screw the labels!” message came through loud and clear. Stand up and be yourself! And go after what you want in this world no matter what they say. You’re going to have to read Lucas and Adam’s story to see if they fight for what they want.
This was my first Byrde read, but it won’t be my last. I’m off to explore more of the Oceanport Omegas.
I love AKB's Mercy Hills series, but this one was just sort of meh.
Didn't help at ALL that the majority of details about college football were wrong. No games are played a month after Spring Break (none that count, anyway, only exhibition or training games) and the NFL draft would have already happened by that point as well (so Adam wouldn't have gone pro after he graduated unless he tried for walk-on). Also, unless the stadium is incredibly small, I'm not so sure a player on the field could see a single individual in the stands (Lucas wasn't in the front row, either, nor was he wearing anything distinctive), not unless that player was on the sidelines (right near the spectator), and in this case, Adam wasn't. (It's also my experience that jocks room together, or are at least grouped in a dorm together, due to scheduling/diet/exercise/training/game issues that interfere with the "average" students', so him rooming with not only an underclassman but a non-athlete, I wasn't buying. But it could be different at smaller schools.)
Also, lots of things just didn't add up with the University scheduling/term timeline. Graduation is usually in May/June...and this made it seem like there was another whole semester/quarter AFTER the one that ended after Spring Break. Sure, lots of schools have summer sessions, but don't usually have separate graduation ceremonies. IDK. If that was the case, the details should have been more specific.
So, yeah...I know it's nit-picking, but if I can't get over the lack of research or incorrect/unspecified details, then I can't take a story seriously. And as such my enjoyment goes down exponentially.
I feel like I'm gonna need that .gif from The Office where he's going "OK, it's happening! It's happening!" We are SO close to Jake and Conner's story, y'all! I can't even stand it!
This takes place in the same 'verse as the Oceanport Omegas. The kids are all grown up! And they're off to college! We met many of these characters when they were babies or kids growing up in Oceanport, and it's so crazy that they're teenagers and starting their own independent lives now. Yes, you could read this as a standalone, but I think you'd get more enjoyment after having read the original series.
The blurb is pretty self-explanatory - Lucas is hiding his omega status as he attends college, with hopes to become a lawyer so he can help defend omega rights. He finds himself with a new roommate - an alpha senior, Adam, who is also a football player with parents breathing down his neck to take over the family business and find a proper omega. Their chemistry is great when they are together, and eventually the two give in to their connection and those crazy alpha/omega hormones.
You can guess what happens. I kinda loved that it wasn't all sunshine and puppies, Lucas has some serious decisions to make, and I liked that in him. Adam was very supportive, a great alpha for Lucas, and someone that will definitely support him as Lucas finishes up school and works to achieve his dreams. I think I would have appreciated a bit more from Adam's family towards the end, what they thought of everything that had happened, but this was an excellent bridge or start to the spin-off series!
Can't wait for Nathan and Raph, and Jake and Conner, and more in The Next Generation of Oceanport residents!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Blurb: College sophomore Lucas has never been kissed--until the night he goes into heat.
Lucas has big plans. He wants to graduate, go to law-school and become an advocate for omega rights. While this is a stand alone it is at the edge of the Oceanport series and some of the younger generation are side characters in this story. Lucas has big dreams and is willing to hide who he really is to get it. Adam knows who he is but is a bit confused about his feelings for his roommate. Of course things get out of hand and then a whole lot of truth has to come out. But Adam is strong enough to go with the roll and continue to support Lucas' dreams. Lucas also learns that you can be true to yourself without sacrificing all your dreams. I loved how these two work it out and get it together.
"I'd managed to be good and abstain from sex." One of the reasons I read m/m romance is it typically doesn't have the gender stereotypes, slut shaming and hetero normative gender roles. I have avoided mpreg books so far...possibly because of the potential for gender role issues. I took a chance on this because I love the roommate to lovers trope. It was a fine story, but my instincts were right.
Also, yet another MM where the "alpha" tells us about his enjoyment of heterosexual sex, and even the "omega" explains, upon losing his virginity, that he'd never had sex with a boy or girl. Because what would MM be without at least some heteronormativity added to the mix. Here's the answer to that question: Honest. Too bad we'll evidently never get there.
This book was really cute and I liked it a lot, it was a nice, sweet and quick story to read. But it was also written well and the story flows perfectly from start to finish. This book is a spin off from the Oceanport Omegas series, but it’s a complete standalone and you don’t need to read those books before this one. I love the roommates and first time love trope, younger guys figuring out who they are and where they stand in life. These characters were both super likable and it was really sweet to see these two; Lucas and Adam finding their way. Although I really wish Lucas could have been straight forward with everything from the start, the explanation of why he does what he did really holds up in this story. Towards the end they really step up and communicate well together in order to make the harder decisions of what to do without letting anything or anyone stand in their way. I liked hearing about some of their friends mentioned in this book as well and I hope we get some of their stories soon too.
While it was pretty obvious what the results would be, the twists and turns the characters took to get there were uniquely Lucas and Adam, and their banter was, at times, hilarious. Adam is too funny and determined to NOT fit into any pre-conceived mold or niche to please his parents. He is perfect for Lucas because of his imperfections, just as Lucas and his obsessive neatness are perfect for Adam. Too, too adorable!
NA isn't my favorite genre, so this book was already starting out behind for me. However, I did enjoy the issues that were discussed in the beginning including omega rights and the difficulties that omegas in their society encountered when trying to get higher education. However, the story wrapped a bit too easily at the end.
While pretty predictable this was like all miss byrdes books AMAZING. i liked it so much. Only thing is i would have loved to see after the baby was born (we got a time jump for an epilogue) and i would like to see maybe the parents meeting or how Adams parents reacted to falcon.
Making babies with roommates is much easier, but has many more complications. Life goals that compete with life games are simpler for the football player than for the lawyer, but resolving goals together is the best for partners and parents, unless it is about a penguin outfit. Fly like an eagle, flap like a swan, name your boy Falcon, because soon he'll be gone!
Roommates By: Ann-Katrin Byrde Narrated by: John Solo
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it is well written with interesting and original storylines that are captivating from start to end. I adored the two lead characters, Lucas and Adam, college students who were paired to gather as roommates. Adam, an omega, is studying law with plans of becoming an advocate for Omega rights. He is not happy with the way Omegas are treated and wants to change that so they have more opportunities and choices. He has gotten far in his studies because everyone is under the impression that he is a beta, including Adam. Adam, an alpha and a member of the college’ football team. His family have plans for him to join their business but that is not what he wants. He does want Lucas and after a few drinks the two wind up hooking up for a night of sizzling passion. That night lead to something unexpected, something that threatens Lucas’s future career and something Adam did not know he wanted or was ready for. I loved how everything plays out in this book, the story is nicely plotted and contains a whole lot of heart. I was impressed how supportive Lucas’ parents were and how they handled the whole situation, I was happy with the way Adam handled the news and what he did about it. Ann-Katrin Byrde, thank you for another enjoyable and entertaining story, I loved every minute of it.
🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, John Solo is a talented narrator and voice artist. He does a great job bringing these characters to life, giving each their own distinct voice which makes it easy to follow along and know who is who. His portrayal of the characters is spot on, he grasps their persona, takes the role and makes it his own. He sets the perfect tone for the story, captures the character’s emotions and projects them into his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another awesome listen.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am amazed at how the author can pump out such consistently great books, of a decent length in such a short time. Another winner, Ann-Katrin has crafted a sweet novel about how plans change and adapting to life so you can reach your goals.
I loved the character of Lucas, who was driven and determined to become a lawyer no matter what. Then he not only meets the man of his dreams but is stuck living in the same room as him for a year of college.
The spark flew and it was great to see the relationship develop and the misunderstandings that complicated life in the 'real' world move so naturally in this novel.
Adam was just the sweetest guy ever, and I'm not surprised that Lucas couldn't resist him. I wouldn't have either, he seemed to be the perfect mix of strong and determined, whilst being sweet and caring. He is the ideal partner.
The only thing that I wasn't thrilled about was how Adam's parents were such a big part of his life and yet we didn't get to see much of them or his relationship. They become estranged towards the end of the book but this is glossed over and not touched on. This would have added to the book and given a bit of balance to their relationship. It seemed that Lucas could lean heavily on Adam, but also made his own decisions, yet we never got to see the reverse and Adam leaning heavily on Lucas.
It didn't take a huge amount from my enjoyment and isn't a detriment to the novel.
another goodin I received this book by the author for an honest set opinion I absolutely love how this author weaved these magnetic stories and worls you just get sucked in right from the first page and this book was no different. It's exciting that were getting a glimpse into the upcoming younger generation of ocean port and that this is an off set of that with glimpses of the characters we love from that series. But back to this story and we encounter Lucus an omega who is masquerading as a beta as he wants to become a top lawyer and prove that omega can do it. The tablets is suppressing his smell but it doesn't do much to dampen his bodies interest in Adam his room mate, jock and Alpha. Adam has his whole career set out for him and his mother all but trying to shove a ring and bride on him but he wants none of it, but his roommate which there's just something about him which gets his heart pumping. With problems fighting preconceived ideas and the whole parents debacle they finally get together. I enjoyed this book it was a short sweet read and gave me all the emotions.
Lucas is hiding a secret - he is an omega using heat/scent blockers in order to pass as a beta. In a world where Omegas still have a huge battle to fight for rights to succeed in certain careers, Lucas feels if the truth comes out, he will lose his chance at becoming a lawyer. But then the attraction to his Alpha roommate Adam becomes too much and leads o a drunken hookup without protection amidst his unexpected heat... and a surprise pregnancy that will have both Adam and Lucas re-examining what they want most out of life. They will have to work together, if they both want to hold on to their dreams.
Great characters and a great love story. I love the Oceanport Omega stories and this is a sort of spin off of that featuring a new generation of Omegas and Alphas finding love and trampling obsticles. I definitely recommend this book.
College footballer, Adam, shares a room with Lucas, an omega masquerading as a beta. One drunken night later with Adam, and Lucas’s carefully laid study and career plans are in jeopardy. If I hadn’t read many other books in the Oceanport or the Mercy Hills series, I’d probably have rated this higher - the two main characters are engaging enough and the story is sweet enough. However, to me this felt like Groundhog Day, not different enough to stand out from other stories in the series. Early on, I felt like the Oceanport series was going somewhere with Omega rights, that things were going to change like the court cases decisions in Mercy Hills, but I don’t really get that sense of momentum anymore. Of course, John Solo’s excellent narration still makes this a worthwhile listen.
It's a short listen but a very enjoyable story. Lucas and Adam start out as just roommates but turn into so much more. Of course Adam didn't know Lucas was an omega which leads to consequences that they must face. Neither one is happy with their lot in life but together they may just be able to build the future and family they have always wanted, they just didn't know it. I really liked watching them grow closer and working together for their future. The narrator did a great job with his interpretation of the characters and the story. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
The Roommate is part of the Oceanport Omegas/Second Chance universe, but it can be read as a standalone very easily. This is an omegaverse book with Alpha/Beta/Omega tropes and mpreg. I suggest reading this book after reading all the books in the Oceanport Omegas series but before you read Second Chances.
Lucas is an omega who’s been masquerading as a beta most of his life. A freak twist of fate has him falling into bed with his alpha roommate. The consequences of that night forces Lucas and Adam, his alpha roommate, to make difficult choices for their future. This book was really interesting and it helped to flesh out the Oceanport Omegas universe even more
