I've read this WHOLE ENTIRE SERIES, and I haven't written reviews for these books. WHAT THE HECK?!?!?!??!

Because these books are . . . EXTREMELY HILARIOSO.

description

And this particular volume is one that I have read very, very, very many times . . . and it's probably because it has ROMANCE IN IT. And it's not cheesy romance, either.

I love this sort of romance! It's klutzy, yet heart-puffing at the same time. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, it makes me just want to slap an innocent bystander because of how adorable it is!

description

Anyway, here goes my rant/review.
This book is about a girl who wants a boyfriend, but has no idea how to get one. She meets a guy (who hates the idea of having a girlfriend) and he agrees to teach her how to get a boyfriend, but only if she falls for anyone but HIM.

Of course, it's obvious that . . .

Sure, I can predict that. But even if some parts are fairly predictable, this storyline AND the fact that it's uber funny makes up for it ALL THE WAY.

It's more of a clumsy, klutzy, carefree kind of romance, rather than a super melodramatic one. (Compare this to Vampire Knight to see what I mean...)

I guess if you're like me, you'll fangirl over this manga. I remember after the first time I read volume three, I was practically DYING in order to read volume 4. I had SEEN volume 4 when I checked out volume 3 from the library, but I just wanted to try out the manga with the first three volumes. I was like, "OH MY GOD, I HAVE TO GET TO THE LIBRARY BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE STEALS VOLUME 4!!!!"

I think I got volume 4...

Anyway, if you're looking for something funny, I suggest that you read High School Debut . . .

Oh, and the movie for High School Debut (it's in life-action) only goes up to volume 3. It's a fairly good movie, with fairly good actors. I enjoyed it. ^_^

But I still pray that they make an anime for this series. If not, I will sit here and cry tears of sadness and the world will slowly start to flood. And they'll have to choose between drowning and making the anime.
Well maybe it wouldn't flood, but I'm one of the people rooting for an anime. There's probably a bunch of other people, too! THIS STORY IS JUST SO GOOD!

So anyway, I want to talk about what happened in the book. If you haven't read the book, be prepared for

SPOILERS AHEAD.

Seriously, don't spoil it for yourself! I suggest you go and read this book yourself, and be amazed by its amazingness because spoilers ruin everything. (Speaking from experience.)

So, when Haruna is with Yoh, and she's about to tell him that she likes him, he suggests, "Hey, you should totally go out with this other guy. You two would make a huge couple."
And she suddenly freaks out, stomping her foot on the ground, throwing his christmas present at him and saying, "YOU FOOL!!!!"

I have to be honest: If I was in Haruna's place, and this happened to me, I would have done the EXACT same thing. This just proves how complicated girls are.

You see, guys think girls are complicated because guys don't know how to READ girls. They don't know how to tell what girls want.
Like . . . lets say the girl wants to get the guy to . . . say something like, "Your dress is pretty." or "Your hair looks nice." After all, girls take AGES AND AGES to do their hair. (Not me, of course. If you ever see me and my hair, that's exactly how my hair looks when I get out of bed.)
But when the guys sees them, they don't say ANYTHING about their hair.
And it makes a girl think several of things, because in retrospect . . . girls think too much.
"Does he . . . NOT like my hair?"
"Does he think my hair is FUNNY LOOKING?!"
"Is my hair SO PLAIN that he's not noticing it?!"
"WHAT DID I DO WRONG?!"
"Maybe he doesn't like my hair. That's why he's not saying anything."
"THIS IS SO OFFENSIVE!"

But in reality, that guy probably DOES notice her hair. He's just probably thinking something along the lines of:
"I don't care what girls look like. I love them for . . . what's INSIDE."
or maybe they do think that the girl's hair is pretty--they just don't say it out loud because of their own personal reasons. They're probably shy, or they keep their thoughts to themselves.

What girls tend to do sometimes is assume. So she's like, "Hey, you're not saying anything about my hair. Do you have a PROBLEM with it?!"
So she starts freaking out.
And the guy is just sitting there, NOT KNOWING WHY. To him, the girl is just yelling at him for something he didn't say. So he ends up being all, "What's going on? Why are you yelling?"
And THAT makes a girl MORE furious. She starts saying, "You're not even paying attention to what I'm saying! FOOL!"
And then there's this whole misunderstanding . . . and it's all because the girl freaked out and ASSUMED that the guy knew what she was thinking, but he DIDN'T.

So Yoh offers Haruna an idea to date some dude. That's what he's SUPPOSED to do. He's the dating coach. He's supposed to suggest to Haruna who to date. He didn't expect that she'd like him.
Which is another factor about girls.
GIRLS ARE UNEXPECTED. Some of them are predictable, but SOME ARE NOT. Their feelings are all jumbled up in complicated ways, so it's hard to explain . . .

But yeah.
She got angry that he even THOUGHT about suggesting another guy to her. She's like, "DON'T YOU REALIZE THAT YOU'RE THE ONE I LIKE?! FOOL!"
I mean, if he knew that she liked him, yet he still suggested someone else for her, she'd probably have a right to be a little mad.
But he DIDN'T know. He was just doing his job.

So yeah. Her yelling at him was pretty interesting.

So basically, in general, all girls are complicated. To guys who have girl problems and think that girls are the most weirdest creatures on this planet, you've got to realize one thing: YOU MUST KNOW WHAT A GIRL IS THINKING.
YOU MUST KNOW WHAT SHE WANTS. Girls get fussy when they don't get what they want.
And they WANT you to know what they want. So if you don't know, that makes them even more frustrated . . .

I think the key for a guy to live peacefully with a girl is to know what that girl wants, and what she's thinking.....
Then again.........I think girls are unpleasant, even when the guy knows what they want.

Anyway, yeah. This is a really good book. I RECOMMEND TO ALL FELLOW HUMANS WHO NEED A LAUGH.

So it seems like Haruna isn't going to learn about dating in general, and instead will learn about dating through Yoh, or will learn about Yoh through dating him, or something like that. Haruna's struggles with her fashion sense seem to have been set aside as well. Despite my initial reluctance when these story conceits were abandoned less than a dozen episodes in, this seems like it'll work.

I especially appreciated that Yoh is in the early stages of learning how to go out with someone, just like Haruna is, and that he isn't the typical aloof, stylish, cool guy who also has a lot of dating experience under his belt. I also liked that Haruna is learning that the outward signals of dating (holding hands, etc) aren't as important as getting along well with the other person, and learning what works best for both of them when it comes to PDA.

It'd be nice if Yoh showed his vulnerable side or even his flaws a bit more, and isn't always in a "mature guy herding Haruna the overexcited puppy around" mode. But this is a very early stage of their relationship, and I'm sure both of them will have some learning experiences and emotional growing pains as they continue to see each other.

I can't imagine reading one hundred shoujo manga volumes in a row--sometimes I get to a point that I'd rather sort my bills than read another one, and I'm a fan!

And the last volume in one of my 3-in-1 volumes! This time we have confessions and dating. While these two had chemistry, I just don't see it when they are dating. :| It feels awkward and weird when they are together. Still shipping them together, but I am worried, if they are dating in volume 3, what will happen in the next 12 volumes that are left? Will they stay together? Will there be cliche break-up and get together again stuff? Urgh, I am worried. But I will continue reading. Still got 2 volumes of 3-in-1's left, and if it is still good afterwards I will buy the rest too.

Vol. 3 is fun because our lead couple finally gets together. Haruna makes a little bit of a mess of things emotionally with Yoh, but she finally works up the courage to confess her feelings to him and they start dating. Ironically, this all happens even though Yoh hasn't said a word about his feelings for her. MEN! They go on their first date, which is a little disastrous, and then Haruna does intense research of old movies like Titanic to determine how people in love should act while prepping for their second date. Oh boy, yeah, it's all sorts of crazy fun in this volume, but I love how their relationship takes it slow. I mean, we're at the end of Vol 3 and they are such a cute and chaste couple. That's what I loved about them before.

Ok, one high point in this volume is Yoh letting Haruna pretty much forget about him for a little bit while she plays softball with her juniors from middle school. He just sits on the sidelines and watches her and he learns a lot about her by doing that. He learns that she truly was and still is respected and well liked by the girls she played softball with. It's nice to see the person you like also being liked for who they are by other people.

Another high point is that Yoh literally took an entire night reading a pile of girl's romantic manga that Haruna gave him as research because he asked her for them. He's pretty much a newbie at romance too since the one relationship he had before did not go very well. So they're learning together, but I love that he took the time to read that much girl's manga. That's dedication on the part of any guy. That would be like me sitting down to read guy's manga like Death Note, Tokyo Ghoul, and Soul Eater in one sitting. INTENSE!

Vol 3 is sweet because it doesn't have too much drama yet, and they're just starting to feel out what their relationship as a couple looks like, in their own way. But the drama is coming and on we go to Vol 4.

VIDEO REVIEW HERE: https://youtu.be/DjMEvKUZ0iM

Okay, there is no denying I am HOOKED on this series! Three volumes read since last night? Oh yeah, I am LOVING this manga!

In fact, I sort of have to laugh because Haruna's younger teammates from junior high say something along the lines of "the same Haruna who would buy ten comics a month?!" and with how fast I'm reading this series, I couldn't help but see myself in that. LOL!

Once again, Haruna shows how brave of a young woman she is. While she might be nervous, she really does jump in and "step up to the plate." I LOVED how she applied things Yoh had told her in past situations and applied for herself without him being there in a few scenes. It was really special and made me proud. <3

This indeed was also the swoon volume because we FINALLY are seeing the ultimate ship, but it's looking far different than I expected and even what the characters expected. But even though it's different, it's beautiful. Haruna is starry-eyed (making her still a very relatable character) and Yoh is surprisingly "clueless" in a certain department, so there is an innocence I really loved. It's wholesome and sweet and definitely makes one laugh.

Bring on volume four! I. Am. Ready!

That annoying moment when you have to choose between reading manga or finishing an essay worth 20% of your final mark.
I am loving this series so far! It's... everything I hoped manga would be. I wasn't sure about this series, since I did pick it up without any knowledge, but it's really fun. The characters are great, the art is fun, the plot is engaging. I am glad that I still have three to go. It's not something I want to be done soon.

It's nice to finally see Haruna and Yoh as an *official* couple. Their awkwardness together is so cute. They're slowly learning that it's best to be themselves around one another instead of copying everyone else. They're so devoted to one another.

Haruna's plan to study movies for guidance fell apart when Asami made it a movie night with all their friends, instead of allowing Haruna and Yoh alone time. But, Yoh did end up reading 100+ of Haruna's favorite shoujo manga, like she asked him, too. Wow....I wish my fiance' would do that for me.

Haruna's true self came out on the "make-up date", when she caught a ball and met up with her old softball friends. The way they acted around one another was really nice. I think Yoh actually enjoyed seeing her in the light and meeting this side of her.
-----------------------
I'm really not liking Asami, though, and I feel like Haruna should stop following Asa's lead on things. Asami is a beyotch, and is laying things on really thick with Fumi whenever Haruna is around, just so that Haruna will think the crazy things she sees Asa doing are what she herself should be doing with Yoh. Asami is a queen of manipulation that plays "victim"/"sweet little girl" extremely well, in order to use people to get what she wants, and it is really annoying.

Asami probably orchestrated that whole incident where the sophmores were bullying Haruna. That seemed too well-planned and well-played to be purely coincidental. Also, Asami seemed surprised and bummed, when Haruna told her the bullying had stopped, almost as if she were upset that her minions had stopped obeying her.

Ahh this was adorable! Haruna has realized that she loves Yoh, but she doesn't know how to tell him. It was hilarious watching how she tried to avoid him. Then when Haruna told Yoh that. I don't really hate Asa that much anymore. I still think what she did was a jerk move, but she's acting normal now.

As for Haruna and Yoh, gahhh I had mixed emotions. I felt happy because. But then I was also really sad because. Either way, I'm eager to figure out what happens next....

Oh, it's cute and all, but it's kind of trite. And it doesn't break any new ground. Of the shojo manga I've read, Love*Com is definitely the best. This one isn't a complete waste of time, nor did it frustrate me the way the first Fushigi Yugi did at times, but it's not a favorite and it's not one I'll shove into my friends' arms when we go to the library.

Probably my favorite volume of the series yet!

In hindsight, this is probably just your typical shoujo manga. So what made me continue reading it so far? It's probably because of the leads. I think Haruna has a certain charm to her that really makes you want to continuously root for her. On the other hand, you can also see how much Yoh cares for Haruna. In this volume, it was so cute seeing them officially establish their relationship as a couple. It was fun seeing them learn and adjust to their life as a couple.

However, I must say I'm a tad bit concerned that they became a couple already this early in the series. I hope the author explored their "coach-coachee" relationship a bit more. Well, I'm really just hoping that the next volumes will just be a couple of "fillers". I hope they continue to show more progress and developments on the relationship of Haruna and Yoh.

I really need to write less, heh, otherwise I'll never get finished adding just this series.

Okay, let's try it this way - the first two volumes have introductions and longer analysis so check those for my reviews if you're interested. I'll hope to go for somewhat shorter here.

Highlights:

- Yoh reading Haruna's mind (she really is majorly transparent, while he hardly moves facial muscles - and when he is in danger of doing so, he usually holds a hand in front of his face. He blushes a lot, too. This is probably not a very realistically depicted guy, heh).

- the supportive way Yoh tries to rebuild Haruna's confidence - and the small hints that he might feel a bit more for her than just pity, friendship and coach responsibility.

- Haruna going for clarification for every ambivalent utterance (especially from Yoh but in general, too).

- the total misunderstanding that develops from Yoh's side, while Haruna took his caring for a hopeful sign and was preparing to confess (not that the situation is played for laughs, but I adore her earnest rage and Yoh's cluelessness - it doesn't come across as unrealistic that Yoh would not see that Haruna has fallen for him already).

- I ADORE how it gets Yoh to use his superior brain to start reevaluating Haruna's behaviour and confronting her about it (and even as Haruna first wants to protect her emotions and denies loving him, because she can't believe now that he would reciprocate and she really wants to be by his side) and clearly shown to be sad and disappointed at her negative reply. And he DOESN'T push it - he leaves! So NOT like your average shoujo romance hero. It's for Haruna to regret having lied and throwing her heart on the mat for him to trample on ^^

- I love these passionate sport shonen like speeches (she grabs his arms and shakes him!), when she is full of fire, when she forgets to dress warmly (which becomes a shtick and only once leads to a cold ^^) just so she can say what she has to say right away. And when Yoh listens to her passionate confession the way his face changes and (while he does not say he loves her back) his whole persona opens up and relaxes and hugs her... AWWWWWWWWWWWW <3

- And then she starts crying from happiness, heee ^^

- And the next day she's not sure if she dreamed it all because Yoh is being so understated (that's just how he is). And then they go on their first official after school date and Yoh has it so together that Haruna is getting insecure if she's the only one really affected, and then Yoh shows his possessive side ^^

- And THEN Haruna gets bullied at school by all the girls who wanted to be Yoh's girlfriend but he never let any girl get close in high school (because of his bad experience in middle school), so they do the classic bullying stuff, but Haruna who is used to tough fights from her baseball days, decides to ignore it and so they escalate. And THEN they confront her and she basically rolls up her sleeves and dares them to FIGHT her for Yoh!!! And when he finds out about the bullying and runs to the meeting place, it's all over and HARUNA HAS WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Haruna being all big eyed how Asa and Fumi work as a couple when they watch movies at home together.

- Yoh deciding he'll read Haruna's old shoujo romances so he has more of an idea how to be romantic, too! After all, she's his first successful relationship so far.

- After the second date, when Yoh sees Haruna interact with her old kouhais in the baseball club from middle school and realizes that he enjoys himself when she's happy a lot (She even saves him from a fastball! Like a shounen hero!). And decides to take things at HER pace. <3

Downsides:

- In the last chapter where Yoh is disappointed that Haruna uses their first real date as if they were kids on school break, being totally interested in the beach creatures, etc. And not being lovey dovey.

- Then their second date with Asa/Fumi at an aquarium isn't much better...

I'm not surprised at all about what takes place in this volume. Right from the beginning Yoh tells Haruna not to fall for him. So right there I knew, Haruna is going to fall in love with Yoh. I'm just surprised it took this long.

When Haruna realizes that she's developed feelings for Yoh, she freaks out. She broke his rule and she doesn't know what to do. She's horrible at hiding things from him since he can read her like an open book. So how the heck is she going to keep this from him? She tried ignoring him and being as short with him as she can but Yoh quickly picks up on it and demands to know what's going on.

This book, I will admit, had me (inwardly) squealing like a teenage girl. I don't know why but all I could think was, finally! And, he's so sweet to her! Even though I think Haruna falls in "love" fast, I totally saw them being a couple. So to me, her falling for one guy and then shortly another, didn't feel rushed. To me, this was who she was supposed to love.

I find it funny when Haruna was kinda avoiding Yoh! XD She's so easy to read. seriously! =)) i laughed when she told Yoh that "You're Fired." XD And wow! I Don't have the courage to confess to someone i like, like that. She's so brave. :O Good Thing that Yoh likes her too! :"> heehee.. but now, they're going out.. they don't know what to do. :)) haha! I can't say anything.. because that sort of thing kinda happened to me too! lol it was awkward.

Somehow, reading this embarrasses me. lol.. I dont know why! =)) but I admire Haruna! even if some jealous girls bullied her, she fought back! So cool. XD

Loved this volume. It made me laugh the way Haruna was avoiding Yoh. It was cute with Haruna trying to figure out if she should tell Yoh how she feels about him. She was so nervous when they where together. Does she end up telling him or doesn't she. You will have to read the volume to find out.

Let's just say this volume made me happy.

Continues the story of Haruna and her antics in her quest to find a boyfriend. I'm starting to get impatient with the series. I hope more happens in the next volume or I might move on to another series. I don't want to keep reading when everything is dragged out so much, with little action in the middle.

Haruna finally learns to stand up for herself and makes all the right moves in High School Debut volume 3. It feels good, as the audience, to see a character you've been rooting for succeed, and I was definitely happy with the outcome of this volume. It gave me everything I wanted while still making me wonder what happens next. 5/5 stars for another great volume.

This series is hysterical! The humor in this series, especially the dialogue, left me in stitches. One of the funniest manga series I've read so far.

The heroine reminds me a bit of Skip Beat's Kyoko. Awkward, yet always trying her best. I really like Haruna and Yoh together. The chemistry between the two feels real and I find myself rooting for them.

Still great fun, and great drama, but starting to turn a bit more into a typical happy school days sort of shoujo. Not a bad thing usually, but I hope it doesn't lose that original spark it has. But a lot can happen in 12+ volumes, so I might as well stick around and see.
