Fame and glory were to be Kiriyu's...until a fateful encounter with the brilliant Yamabiki threatened to rob him of both his reputation and his empire. Desperate to rid himself of the usurper, Kiriyu designed a raditation "accident" that would end Yamabiki's life. But his plan backfired, muting his own beloved daughter into a hideous monstrosity. Upon reuniting with Yamabiki in the Cradle, years of resentment boil over within Kiriyu, who whips out a knife and sinks it into his old assistant's chest! Amidst all the chaos...Director Izumi sets a new plot in motion from the shadows.
I feel like slapping the main character like mannnn PLEASE BE USEFUL FOR A WHILE URGHHH WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE YOU DOING JUST STANDING THERE AND NOT STOPPING THAT MAN??!!
I’e and his friend Kazu are taking the bus home from high school just like any other day. After they mysteriously pass out while aboard the bus, they wake up in a new bus full of dead bodies which are being transported into an underground facility utilizing butchered human meat for stomach-churning purposes. The place is run by dangerously powerful people serving an even more terrifying master.
Aligning themselves with other survivors, I’e and his new companions make it their mission to break out alive while being confronted with one nightmare after the other within the demonic facility. The truth of what’s truly going on underground is even more awful than they’re prepared to handle, however.
Starving Anonymous starts off as a pure gross-out gore manga, but progresses into an insane science fiction psychological thriller with some genuinely fascinating characters and surprisingly emotional moments. Even through its weaker plot elements, the series keeps up a constant momentum of explicit horror, brutal action and bizarro nightmare fuel.
The villains are chilling, but the heroes aren’t exactly right in the head either. The two leading men Natsune and Yamabiki who support I’e with his escape are extremely disturbed while still being empathetic and very interesting. Natsume is a monstrous combat expert with a childlike understanding of the world while Yamabiki is a deranged genius whose morbid fascination with science often overrides his morality. The relationship between these crazy guys is what really brings the mystery, thrills and tension of the story to their full potential.
There’s a few moments where the logic behind the facility and the reasoning behind the strange world-building is a bit iffy, but the ridiculousness of the plot and the strong character work is solid enough to make up for its shortcomings. There’s some harsh commentary about global warming, treatment toward livestock for meat consumption and the increase of health problems in the modern world due to the way our environment is treated and the garbage that’s put in our food every day.
The finale is also surprisingly emotional and satisfying, being ambiguous enough to leave some of the darker themes up to the imagination.
Adorato!
Oh my gosh, it was so bad... I quite enjoyed this gruesome horror manga series until now but this volume ruined it for me. It was totally unrealistic, made no sense, was full of inconsistencies and basically spit in the face of what was done before. It reminded me of "denjin n", started out great and then went straight into a wall because the authors clearly hadn't constructed their story well and had no idea how to end it. And guess what ? It was the same authors... I just realized it... They clearly always come up with interesting premises but then have NO IDEA what to do with them and everything ends up being an absolute mess.
I love the way Yuu Kuraishi writes these characters backstories. I often forget they are flashbacks because I get so caught up in the story. In this volume we now find out through a disturbing tragedy, that the director of The Cradle actually doesn't approve of the things that were happening there and has been planning on shutting it down for quite some time. We also find out he is linked to Natsune's mother and she is sort of the reason why his father was killed. This one was a really quick read.

Oh my God this series is incredible! The story is riveting and although this is extreme graphic body horror, it doesn’t just rely on that (it is very shocking though). Like I’ve said in every other reviews of this series, this is a explicit manga for older readers with various incredibly disturbing and deplorable acts towards people ranging from m*rder and dismemberment, to r*pe, torture, and human experientation. If your screamish, this is not the series for you. Volume five is by far the most emotional and made me feel bad for a character I previously hated. This story has been thrilling for the start and is like nothing I’ve read before! The plot is pretty unique and the characters are utterly fascinating. The art is powerful and detailed (so disgustingly detailed), particularly in this volume. And that ending! The storytelling is wonderful and depending on how the last two volumes go, this might be a new favourite horror manga for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Mon avis complet : https://songedunenuitdete.com/2019/10...
Even after finishing this series I'm.......still not entirely sure what I read.
Gross. So gross. And weird. But also kind of fun? It's definitely not going to be for everyone, but if you enjoy Junji Ito's work this might be for you.
