Do your Monday actions reflect your Sunday worship? How about your claims to faith? Is your life full of noticeable changes and actions?
James, the half-brother of Jesus, wasn't impressed with talk. He knew that a life of faith was all about actions that revealed a difference in a person's life. For him, it was not that works save the Christian, but that they mark the Christian. In his letter, he boldly deals with practical issues of faith not bound by culture or place. He shows the importance of living a genuine life of faith. His message is bare-knuckled as he encourages, challenges, and confronts, offering practical words and admonitions to live out our faith.
As you read, study, journal, and discuss the book of James, watch for these key themes that Max will unpack throughout the

This is one of those Christian write-in Bible study books. I am participating in a local Bible study group and we've been reading this book for months, not rushing through it. It may take three or four weeks to get through each chapter but we're okay with that. We're nearly done now. I've enjoyed the experience. The questions always bring up good discussions and we're getting to know each other much better because of the study and our various answers and testimonies and self-revelations. The quality of fellowship is great and this book is like an anchor holding it all together. I recommend the book for Bible study groups. We also have a pot luck dinner on our Bible study night. Highly recommended. Fantastic fellowship with people attending from almost every church in town.
I’m constantly working through a daily Bible study. It’s necessary exercise for my soul! One of my very favorite writers is Max Lucado. Everything he writes is so insightful and still expressed in simple, everyday terminology that I can soak up. When I realized he had started a new series of “Life Lessons” focusing on one Biblical book at a time, I knew immediately that I wanted to start with James.... one of the most “marked up and underlined” books in my tattered Bible. I just finished it today, and it was wonderful... the entire Book of James... chapter by chapter... verse by verse. I loved it so much I went ahead and ordered his companions to Philippians, Ephesians, and Galatians! “The Bible is not a newspaper to be skimmed but rather a mine to be quarried.” “A steady diet of God’s Word over a lifetime builds a healthy soul and mind.”~Max Lucado If you need a fresh perspective of God’s Word, I highly recommend this series! ❤️
My small group read this together, and the overall feeling at the end was disappointment. James is a dense book, and I had high expectations for diving in and dissecting it, especially some of the more difficult passages. Instead, this study was kind of fluffy. It felt like an intern put it together - extensive quoting from Lucado’s other works, not much original content. There were some good self reflection and application questions, but I would not recommend this book.
