Corus #2

Corus and the Case of the Corruption

Rate this book
After a personal and professional breakdown, Chief Detective Corus was demoted and tasked with focusing on three murder cases he’d let slip in previous months. Fresh off the thrilling conclusion to his first case, Corus is on the hunt to solve the next cold murder, a computer engineer stabbed and drowned at a company party attended by hundreds of people. But standing in his way are a Billionaire with dark secrets, his own meddling coworkers, and a broken and corrupted disk obscuring another decades old mystery.
Meanwhile, Corus finds a link between the Sheriff’s Department computer network and the Russians involved with the murder at Skokim Pass. With Fletcher’s help, Corus must infiltrate the Russian organization to get answers to his questions. But what will he do when they demand he kill a county official and launder dirty money?
Corus must also cope with unexpected romantic urges, disconcerting reminders of his military past, and an obese “wizard” with the skill to peer into hidden digital realms.
Corus’ world refuses to conform to his old black and white absolutes, instead growing greyer with every step he takes. Can Corus embrace the chaos to solve his cases and confront the questions tearing at him from within? Or is the ubiquity of human corruption destined to outmatch him?

I HAD TO CHUCKLE EVERYTIME I READ ONE OF THE CHARACTER’S NAME (that’s all they have the same) BECAUSE I HAVE A DEAR FRIEND WITH THE SAME NAME. I SEE CORUS HASN’T CHANGED MUCH STILL A REBEL WITH A CAUSE, WORKING HARD TOGETHER WITH HIS STRANGE FRIENDS AND CO-WORKERS. I HAVE TO SAY I DID ENJOY THE FIRST BOOK MORE THAN THIS ONE, IT WASN’T BAD BUT AND I’M STILL LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT BOOK BECAUSE I LOVE THE CHARACTER’S SO MUCH. ;D

Best of the series

The plot was unique. I liked the characters. I liked Corus' musings. Settled open questions from the previous books, but still left me with wanting to know what happens next. A few typos, but definitely a fun read.

A Writer Who Thinks or a Thinker Who Writes?

It's easy to underestimate the complexity of Corus because he is a reader-friendly, likeable protagonist; however, the logic of his actions belies his depth of character. Corus compensates for his complexity with a refreshing openness that wins over both compatriot and evildoer alike. Both Corue and his creator will win you over also, if you a restless mystery that makes thinking and self discovery a good thing.

Murder and Russians

What could go wrong? Another good story, with a bit too much soul searching for me but overall a very interesting mystery with a few twists to keep your pages turning. Unfortunately the last 10% had several typos, just enough to be distracting.
