This started out in a nice fashion with the flavor of The Parent Trap. But rather than twin girls from the same parents, it was BFFs with a divorced parent. When the adults first met it was with some bias. I liked the tension and thought the plot would move smoothly. Unfortunately, the h had some TSTL moments in the second half and it wrecked it for me.
I liked the book, it was sweet. Both the hero and heroine are single divorced parents to eleven year old girls who are best friends. Both of them were burnt badly and have no intention of marrying again.
Their first meeting is not great, the heroine comes off with the impression that he is a bad parent and he thinks she is a crazy bag lady. The mis-conceptions are soon cleared up and both of them become wise to the plans of their daughters to get them together.
They decide they don't want to but still start dating deciding to keep it light but it isn't. There were moments the heroine acted irrationally especially at the party but it was because she was having flashbacks to her womanizing husband.
A very cute book 1- daughters conspire against the parents 2- the daughters act 'real' in the sense that they feel the parents are over the hill just cuz they're their parents (my gosh! they're over 30!) 3- Both the H/h become friends before they get involved 4- they don't want to raise their daughters' hopes 5- They're both divorced and what they feel for their exes is true. You can't just wipe out the past 6- The h's encounter at the roller skating rink STRONGLY reminded me of my ice skating effort. I SUCKED SO BAD at it. As did she. 7- a really cute encounter over cookies...
I really liked this book. Probably more like 4.5 stars. Sometimes I really don't like DM books, they can be a little too sweet. This one tho was good. The 2 11 year old daughters were realistic and a warm, fun meaningful part of the plot. I really liked the developing relationship between the H/h from wary friendship to romance, to love. They were both resistant to the idea of love and romance, they had no desire to repeat the painful experiences of their first marriages by ever marrying again, but their friendship quickly led to attraction and caring. I liked that there were some bumps in the road but no big misunderstanding. I like smex in a book but in this book it was ok that it was sex free. These were two intelligent, sucessful, good people who despite their best efforts fell in love. It's clear they want to fall into bed also but they have other responsibilities to deal with first.
"Yours And Mine" is the story of Joanna and Tanner.
A pretty sweet story of two best friends plotting to get their divorced and very single parents married. Their is initial resistance, but after some back and forth, sparks ignite and their wishes are granted. It was silly but a good one time read.
3.5 stars. This is a perfectly cute novella about a single mom and a single dad who's tween girls are best friends and want them to end up together. She is a super mom. She's a loan officer in a bank but is also that perfect mix of friend and mother where she's known as the cool mom. He's an uber rich businessman who isn't really sure how to deal with a tween girl. They first meet when he's going on a work trip and his daughter doesn't want to stay with the babysitter. She asks to stay at her friends house (with the cool mom) and he reluctantly agrees. Their first meeting is a little antagonistic but then they quickly become friends and he relentlessly pursues her. Her ex husband cheated a lot so she's very hesitant to get back into a relationship and I thought this book was pretty realistic in the progression of the relationship. Overall this was a fun and enjoyable read. It just wasn't long enough to be anything super memorable or impactful.
This book was first published in 1989 so I was surprised that it didn’t feel too dated when I listened to it. I probably first read this book over 25 years ago; I was quite surprised when the basics of the story came back to me very quickly after starting to listen to the audiobook.
It was cute how the two BFFs conspired to get their parents to get with each other. Of course, it was kind of hate-at-first-sight for the parents but that was quickly turned around.
This was a enjoyable story to listen to that didn’t take much concentration so I was able to multi-task while I listened to it. The narrator, Carly Robins, is new-to-me but I thought she did a pretty good job.
At the end of Your and Mine, there’s a bonus story from Brenda Novak, Home for the Holidays, which is a bit of a teaser for an upcoming book in her Whiskey Creek series, When I found You.
A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
So far I have only read the first few chapters. The book isn't bad but I'm having trouble getting into it for some reason. I guess I can just read the writing on the walls for this one. Single mother falls in love with daughter's best friend's single father. They struggle with their parenting styles both quick to judge the other but eventually fall in love and best friend's become sisters by the end of the book. Guess I'll see how close I am.
Update: I was pretty spot on although I was wrong a little as well. I didn't expect the daughters to be the ones to push the two together. I also didn't expect there to be so much trouble between the two parent's getting together. I was impressed how DM portrayed Joanna to be so independent and stubborn. I was also impressed with the fighting scenes between the two parents and how... realistic they seemed/felt. I too wouldn't feel right being with someone who was in a higher financial position than me. I however, was slightly disappointed in how Tanner asked Joanna to marry him. I thought it should be done more romantically. Perhaps more proposals are like this? Maybe one day I will find out.

I didn't realize this was such an early book (1989) because my version said 2017. I have always considered Macomber a Christian/clean book author and this story was more mainstream romance. And a little too steamy here and there for my taste. Nothing profound, just not my preference. So it made sense that her early writing was much different. Frankly, I was relieved she hadn't taken a turn in the opposite direction.
The story of the two 11-year-old friends and daughters of the two single parents was truly cute and their matchmaking reminiscent of the Parent Trap. Predictable and a nice story but I will stick with her later books. She definitely grew as an author.
Wow! I haven't read a Debbie Macomber book in a long time, but I'm really glad that we listened to this one. Yes, it was predictable, but done well! From the jacket: Marriage is an experience that single mom Joanna Parsons doesn't plan to repeat, no matter what her daughter thinks. Tanner Lund feels the same way. Like Joanna, he got divorced after a short, disastrous marriage, and he's raising his daughter alone. But the girls have other plans in mind-and it involves the best friends becoming sisters. Both Tanner and Joanna are determined to avoid marriage, yet there's no resisting their growing attraction...
I have read a lot of books by Debbie Macomber. This was not one of her better ones. I would describe it as a run of the mill romance book. Joanna Parsons, a single mom with an 11 year old girl, never wants to marry. She meets Tanner Land, who is also single with an 11 year old girl. Now I think we can all guess what happens. If you want to read a story to enjoy and not stretch your brain, this is it.
This story was very cookie cutter romance to me. I enjoyed reading it but it is by far not my favorite Debbie Macomber books. I can tell this is one of her earlier works. I absolutely love her Blossom Street Series.
Another quick and fun read by debbie . Two best friends try and put their single parents together over a course of a few outtings and opportunities and in the end, they succeed. The two parents fight it in the beginning due to their pasts and hurts getting in the way but once they put their fears behind them and say yes to the idea of the relationship, they end up falling in love and much to the girls ecstatic , they marry.
Yours and Mine is my second book by Debbie Macomber. I listened to the audiobook, so maybe that had something to do with my three-star rating. The book gave me some Hallmarky vibes (which is fine by me because I am a huge fan of Hallmark movies), but I felt there was too much bantering between the couple and it became a bit aggravating. If you're familiar with Disney's The Parent Trap, then you have the idea of this book's plot. It's very similar. A light, easy read with a happy ending.
This is the story of Joanna and Tanner, both of whom are divorced. They meet when their daughters become best friends. The girls decide their single parents need to fall in love with each other and marry, so they go to great lengths to make that happen. Their parents are resistant at first, not wanting to hurt the girls if it doesn't work out between them. But eventually they fall in love and the wishes of their daughters come true.
There were parts of this story I enjoyed but at the end of the story I could not understand what Tanner saw in Joanna. She treated him terribly and he put up with it. Joanna's character came off looking pathetic. Loved the storyline of the matchmaking daughters. I need to remember to stick with reading Debbie Macomer's newer novels. This one was written in 1989.
Joanna is still broken from her first marriage. She thinks she was blind and naive about the things that happened. Tanner is definitely not interested in a relationship. He doesn't trust women well. They are both trying to raise their respective daughters alone.
Definitely had laughs and tears. The girls are devious.
This audiobook was highly predictable, but it was well-written and kept my interest well enough to keep me peddling on the stationary bike. It was nice to hear something simple, heart-warming, and easy. I needed something besides psychological thrillers and non-fiction "thinking" books for a change.
Really enjoy her characters and story line. Can always be assured when reading one of her books. Always brings humor and romance together in fine fashion! One more to add to my list of enjoyeds!
Cheesy Hallmark movie quality. Feel good romance, and a good way to pass time while I washed my comforter at the laundry mat...it was the only thing at Walmart that I didn't already have that wasn't too embarrassing looking 😂.
This is about 2 girls that are in 6th grade who are best friends. Both of their parents are divorced and bitter about marriage. The girls scheme to bring their Mom and Dad together.Another great book from Debbie Maccomber
Yours and Mine is such a cute, fun loving, romance story by Debbie Macomber. Right from the beginning I was on the same team as the two eleven year old girls; Kristen and Nicole wanting their parents to start dating. Joanna and Tanner put up a good fight and it was a pleasure to read about them.
I have read a lot of Debbie Macomber in the past, so knew what to expect for the plot line. I felt the plot developed too quickly though in this story. Still enjoyed it, being a fun read and of course a happy ending.
