Because I'm Aria Watson, and I will not be broken.*Bound to Gods is the second book in a complete urban fantasy series. Okay. this series is cute but there is no solid structure. Everyone is just running around like chickens and somehow managing to pull shit out of their ass at random.

And the men? WHERE IS ALL THE DAMN SMUT I WAS PROMISED!?

Is this not supposed to be a reverse-harem series!? I mean medium-burn? MORE LIKE LUKE WARM AT BEST - IF NOT AT ALL.

Spoilers ahead, 2.5* hesitantly rounded up

Book 2 picks up where book 1 left off, the gang found what turns out to be a fake Odin and end up trapped in a prison of their own nightmares by Odin's former advisor. Old fears are faced and secrets revealed as they each face their personal hell, but with their own Valkyrie at their side they're all able to band together and finally rescue Odin. The h's fears in particular were heartbreaking as she was sexually molested by her mother's boyfriend and her brother died confronting the man. Now Odin is free and just as they try to settle in, it seems war is on the horizon.

*******
While the book was quite imaginative I confess to some boredom, I actually fell asleep at my desk reading this
The majority of the book is them living through their nightmares with the h fluttering in and out while dealing with her own demons
I struggled with the romance as well as the progression just didn't ring as truth. It was awkward as heck and all of them together blindsided me a bit
The sexy times sucked lol

On the plus side
I love Norse mythology so there's some enjoyment in the plot
It's so hard to find Valkyrie's as mcs so I was pleased with that aspect
Scrappy and determined h
Not overly repetitive
The H's are all pretty ok

Claimed by Gods - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first installment but it was still a wild ride.

For whatever reason book one and I did not click. Luckily I enjoyed this book a lot more. The bookpicks up right where the first one ended. The gang realize they have the wrong Odin but it’s too late and he’s already transported them to another plane. We learn a lot more about all the characters and their fears. They are stuck in a place of their own nightmares, literally and must somehow remain detached and focused to find a way out. This was obviously disturbing particularly for the heroine who was abused by her mom’s boyfriend when she was 9. The story was well paced and interesting. While they may have solved one problem now they have a bigger threat to prepare for ahead. Even Valkyrie can’t catch a break lol

This is the second book about Ari and the gods and goddess that made her a valkyrie: Freya, Thor, Baldur, Hod & Loki. This is not a standalone so if you haven't already, you should definitely read Claimed by Gods first.

This second instalment in the series starts up pretty much where the first book ended. Ari and the gods got tricked (and not by Loki), and now they're in an almost exact replica of Asgard. However, as the illusion of Odin crumbled to dust they know they'll have to be somewhere else, as he's the only one that can open the way to Valhalla. Now the question beckons, who's behind this and why are they being kept there?

The why is easily answered, someone doesn't want them to find the Allfather. The who, well honestly, I wanted to slap myself silly! Towards the end of the first book I kept thinking "trust your instincts Ari.. don't fall for it.. trust them... This time the joke was on me! I should have trusted my gut feeling about the different characters, because someone have been busy working shady deals behind the scenes.

In the illusion prison it quickly becomes clear, that it's built on memories. And because of that, Ari might be their saving grace. As she hasn't been to Asgard before its easier for her to see through the charade, but as they're voicing that theory out loud Ari suddenly has a big target on her back. Though, there does seem to be a loophole in the design. The illusion and the scenarios they encounter, are all echo's of someones memory. So what would happen, if the memories are re-written? If there's more to them, or instead of tearing them apart, the illusions bring them closer together? That could make each of them realise, that there's more going on than they originally thought.

But even knowing they're illusions doesn't make it easier to handle, when the puppet master unleashes the worst memories. The death of Baldur. For the god of light being in the darkness was particularly nasty memory for all the gods and the goddess.

Once again I was completely sucked into this world Eva has created, surrounding myself with the Norse myths and legends. And I loved every second of this fast paced and intense book. As there's nothing to eat or drink in this illusion world, time is of the issue, which leaves no downtime for our heroes and heroine's. But even so, they do find time to get closer to each other.

As a last thing I quickly want to mention the character growth. In all the books I've read by Ms. Chase, I'm floored by the development her main characters go through. And this series and book is no different. When they're faced with their deepest and darkest fears, they all have to comes to grip with the past and learn that sometimes being a victim is a choice.

*I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review*

In this second book of the Their dark Valkyrie series, we follow Aria and her Norse Gods in their ongoing quest to find the Allfather, Odin. They’re trapped inside a fake Asgard now – as you’ve read in book 1 - and the Gods and Aria are bound to face some really difficult moments from their past, in the capturers hope that they’ll break when they are faced with their demons so that they aren’t able to continue their search of Odin anymore.

In this second book there’s a lot of focus on the development of all of the character’s. We’re revisiting some moments of their pasts, like I said, so you get a lot more insight as to how they are who they are now but also who they have been in the past. We get to find out what’s going on with Haldur and Hor which I was really curious about in book 1 for example, and many more answers are questioned. It was a really great addition to the story I think but therefore it also feels a bit like that ‘middle book syndrome’ thing is going on here since the focus on the story-line development isn’t a priority – that’s how it felt to me. But I have to say that I loved their character developments throughout the book a lot so I can forgive the fact that the story-line development was a bit slow at times.

I still don’t think the reverse harem thing is something that’s really fluently written though. I love all of the characters, so that’s not it. The Norse Gods and their connections to Aria are well-written but to me, it doesn’t always feel like the romance/sexiness part feels ‘natural in this story’ you know? Maybe because the build-up to particular sexy moments isn’t always there? Because of that, it sometimes feels a bit ‘pushed’. Like ‘it has to be in the story, no matter what’.

Don’t get me wrong..I think it’s really hard to write reverse harem and give each of the characters a fair amount of attention to the development feels natural and believable. It’s hard to find a great balance I think with so many things going on story-wise and then also a lot of characters who need to come across as believable and lovable. And even though I still don’t always believe in it, I do think there’s progress to be seen in comparison to the first book so that’s a good thing. And I do love how the emotional bonds between Aria and the Gods grow in this second book. I think the base of their friendships/relationships is really beautifully done so I’m curious to see how things continue in the third book.

Overall, I feel like this was an okay second book in the series. Interesting enough to make me want to read the next book, definitely. The romance/lust development still wasn’t exactly what I’d hope it’d become after reading book 1, but there’s still a lot of potential here. And since we’ve come to know the Gods a lot better now thanks to the awesome character developments, I’m hopeful for the next book regarding the romance and such. Story-wise it was entertaining. I really liked seeing important/difficult moments of everyone’s pasts but because of that, the story-line itself was a bit held back. The ending of this book is really promising and I’m really curious to see how everything is going to unfold in book 3. This book was yet again packed with some awesome action scenes, a lot of Norse Mythology and lovable characters. If you liked ‘Claimed by Gods’, you’ll definitely want to read its sequel and discover more about Ari and her Norse Gods.

This series is getting more exciting with every book. I’ve just gotten myself the third instalment, because I just need to know what happens next.

What I can tell you, without spoiling the plot, is this story is fantasy at its finest. There are plot twists and since everything is taking place in a made up world, where everything can change at any given moment, your imagination will be working overtime.

Also, this book made the whole story so far live up to the reverse harem label. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Well I enjoyed the memories although someone suffered in each one but I liked the insight into the characters. I feel bad for Loki everyone makes out his evil but his not and people pick on him because his a giant and not a god. I liked the story but it did get dull in places.

In the second book Aria and her RH of gods think they have won, but quickly find out they have in fact landed in their nightmares and memories. They turn on each other and although a great deal of imagination went into this initially. It quickly became repetitive and a little boring.

This book is just as fun to read as the first book was. I honestly like this one more then the first book , because we got to learn more about the past of the Norse gods that this story is about currently. Not only that, but we get to see more of the human emotions that the gods have. We also have more romance coming into the story. This all is the result them being trapped in a fake Asgard.

I had started a book this morning. It didn't seem that long. And then I started reading and it was written beautifully. So beautifully and so lyrically that my messed up and tired brain couldn't focus on it and that I forgot half of the sentence right after I had read it. So, it was time to change books and I know that in such a mood I can't go wrong with an Eva Chase. And luckily I still had three of the books in this series left. Perfect moment to start the second book!

I was really curious where our heroes had ended up and I was absolutely not disappointed! In the first book the author mostly focussed on the characters getting to know each other, without knowing much about their history and who they've been. That worked, since there was such a clear goal and since everyone was so focussed on that goal, but now things have changed, which means that in this book it was time to reveal the past.

And the author does that brilliantly and naturally. Instead of having lengthy conversations about all the things they did in the past, which is quite a lot in the cases of these Norse Gods, we literally could relive their memories. We could see these things happening, we could see the emotional impact everything had on our favorite characters and we could also witness all the tension between these characters because of it.

Because before this story could really turn into a reverse harem the author had to deal with the past and the famous myths we all know. If you're familiar with the myths you know that especially Loki played a terrible role in a lot of misery, but also the other way round. Loki has been treated terribly by almost all the Gods, if not all. This book gave them the chance to tell their side of the story, to show it and to see each other in a different light.

And now we have a true team it's time to bring the battle to who started it! I can't wait to read the next book!

"A Stunning Reverse Harem Urban fantasy Romance series"
Each of Eva Chase's reverse harem stories are unique and exciting. The sexy men are panty melter's. The women are spunky and sassy.
Aria had only one thing in her mind. To save her brother from their abusive mother. But before she can rescue him she gets killed. Only this is not the end of Aria. No she is saved by four sexy Gods , and turned into a Valkyrie! The Gods tell her they need her help. With finding their father the Viking God Odin. So Aria, her four sexy Gods and the goddess Freya. Set off to find Odin only they are not trapped , In a fake Asgard a place the Viking gods lived. Aria feels herself drawn to her four gods. Loki the trickster, Thor the God of thunder, Baldur who is dreamy and compassionate, and his twin Hod who is grim and secretive. The four gods also seem drawn to Aria. Can the group escape the fake Asgard? Will they find the God Odin?
You will love this super exciting, suspenseful, funny, thrilling, and scorching hot Reverse Harem Romance! It is a five star plus story.

I enjoyed this continuation of the Their Dark Valkyrie series. Bound to Gods does not have so much happening plot-wise as its predecessor. Instead, it focuses on the characters, giving us glimpses into the gods' pasts (drawn from the myths), helping us understand more from whence their current actions stem. I particularly enjoyed Chase's take on Odin's involvement in Loki's actions prior to Ragnarök, because it mirrors how I addressed the issue in my own Norse myth-inspired novel. Nice to see someone else interpreting it the same way I did! The action heats up between Ari and gods in this one, after the slow burn of book one, and the story ends in a way that sets things up perfectly for an action-packed third instalment, which I will look forward to reading upon its release. This series is sure to please fans of reverse harem fantasy and myth retellings.

I received this book as a free eBook ARC via NetGalley.

Really good continuation of the story. We left off in the last book on a cliffhanger everyone standing before Asgard with the Odin they just rescued but something isn’t right. Aria can sense that this isn’t the real Odin. Upon discovery he turns to ash. That’s where this book starts. So this entire book the characters are trapped in a illusional world made up of their memories by the raven of memory. They all know they must get out however reliving memories of their past is taking its toll on them, as well as their close knit group. Aria so different than the gods, can see the memory illusion world shifting and the raven has to work harder and harder to keep them contained. As they relive their nightmares they realize how they view their memories impacts how the act and react today and maybe changing their viewpoint of the awful things that have happened in the past can possibly change the future.

I should say upfront that in the past year I've read two books on norse mythology. So, this book ended up being boring for me. As much as I love those tales, there are only so many times I can read them in a year - and this book was a lot of rehashing them. It might have been good otherwise, but I struggled to finish. so. read this if you don't know a lot of norse tales? Or have a shorter memory than me, which is, trust me, quite short?

*3,5

I am done with Ms. Eva. I keep trying over and over and it is just not for me. spoilers.

This book is unnecessarily repetitive. HOW OFTEN DO WE NEED TO GO THROUGH A MEMORY BEFORE WE GET IT?

This is just a cheap way to get our main character to get to know the gods past without any of them having to actually be vulnerable and make clear decisions and I actually feel asleep reading it. incredibly bored the whole time

I found this book a bit slow and was super difficult to get through. I understand the choices behind the plot and this may have been more enticing for those who did not already know quite a lot of Norse folklore. I will definitely continue with the series hoping that the plot with amp up.

It's confusing. I don't know how I should feel about this one.
I like the story and I was happy to be back to reading it. The writing was just as good as with the first one and I kinda liked the consent behind this book. I mean, where better to imprison the gods then within their own memory, right? And considering all we know about the Gods, it's easy to say that they are messed the hell up, so having to relive their past is its own brand of torture. And in a way it also helped us to get to know these characters better and to understand why they're acting a certain way.
But on the other hand, I think the whole memory gig went on a little too long and I got tiered of jumping between their memories, constantly trying to find each other within this maze. It was dragged out for too long.
And the way they escaped it? That just rubbed me the wrong way. The idea behind it was good - make them face and accept the way they feel about each other and let those strong feelings be the thing that broke this memory prison. That's a good concept. But did we have to turn it into an orgy? The scene right before it - with Odin and Loki was a pretty powerful and impactful one, so to follow it up with something that felt so empty? And the execution was awkward as well. Like, where did Freya go while they were getting it on?
It felt forced, the emotional aspect was missing from it and the scene overall tarnished my opinion of the book as a whole. It just came too soon to feel natural.
But yeah, I'm trying to stay positive for the future books, hoping that this sort of thing does not happen again. And I'm curious about how the Gods will behave now that Odin is back and how he will treat his new valkyrie. Because right now, the Allfather seems like bad news to me. Guess we'll see.

**possible spoilers**

I already know I am going to binge read this series. I'm halfway through already.

Ok, so I really enjoyed this book. Not as much as the first, but just barely. The entire book is Ari and the gods being caught up in Munin's trap of memories. I liked it, and the concept was solid, but I think it was a bit much for them to be caught there for the entire book. At times, it almost edged into the tedious. The revelations made from the memories were an original way for the reader to have a crash course into the history of the characters and their relationships, but there seemed little breaks in between.

This was really the only problem I had with the book. Now that Odin is home, it will be interesting to see how his presence impacts the quintet that has developed. I really do like this series.

Recieved from Netgalley. Wasn’t expecting to read the sequel so quickly, so really happy about that. As per the first book, the cover artwork is amazing. The story continues right off from the cliffhanger of the first. Aria and the gang are trapped in a makeshift prison and need to work together to break free. Problem is there’s tricks and exposed secrets at every turn. Loki is still my favourite character with Thor the least favourite. This one didn’t grip me as much as the first, probably because it felt more contained. Still enjoyable and looking forward to the next book.
