Everything I have been waiting for and hoping for started to unfold and happen in this book and I am beyond thrilled with it!!

Revolution and war come with a price in the fourth volume of The Aermian Feuds.

After escaping from the warlord- Sage, Jasmine, and Blaise are all in rough shape. Blaise isn't as tormented as Sage and Jasmine and quickly jumps into training and getting prepared for the coming war.

Sage and Tehl have been through so much and they are brought back together once more, to try and gain some sort of connection. They both have had their hearts put to the test. I was so impressed with the way Kay handled bringing these two characters together. Tehl is a TRUE cinnamon bun. His character has grown so much over the course of the books! Literally there are some dark heavy moments but handled with so much care my heart almost BURST. I cried big fat ugly tears.

I don't want to say too much since this is an ongoing series- But, Overall this was by far my favorite installment. This series is breaking all the rules and twisting and turning with each new book. I am so excited to read the next one and can hardly wait!! If you couldn't tell already- I highly recommend it !!

Well, this book was emotional

Truthfully, I am only here for Tehl & Sage and kinda skimmed through the other points of views scattered here and there. I just don't really care for Sam, Jessica, Lilja, etc.

I love how this book made a lot of progress with Sage's trauma as well as her relationship with Tehl while simultaneously going on with the plot.

What happened to Sage, Jasmine and all the other women in the last book made me sick. I actually skipped a lot of parts because I couldn't handle it.

King's warrior continue's Sage and Tehl's story of making a peaceful Aeremia.
With Sage out of the Warlord Zane's grasp, the slow process to healing her broken mind and battered heart begins. That is the biggest focus of King's Warrior. Sage goes from completely destroyed as a person to someone healing.

I appreciated the way Frost described Sage's essential PTSD. She's never fully okay and she'll probably never be okay given the horrors in book 3, but she's learning how to deal with life, the nightmares, and being cared for by those who love her.

I still believe, as has been apparent throughout the series, that the way the characters converse is extremely stilted. They don't talk like normal people would. It's extremely formal, but no distinct time period.
For example:

Rafe says: "I will explain everything later."
and Tehl responds with: "Yes you will."

My thoughts: Most people would say something like, "you better" or "I'll hold you to it."

Or at one point, Marq says: " Times are dangerous, and my people need me. I'll do whatever is necessary to help them. As is my duty."

My thoughts: It's more fluid to say: It's my duty [after all]" or something of that nature. Starting a sentence with "AS" honestly makes it sound like a college essay and it's not a phrase people begin sentences with in real life, generally.

Last one, I promise:

"It has been a pleasure to meet you, King Marq."
"And I you, Queen Osir."

My thoughts: ..I'm pretty sure, even kings say, things like "Likewise, or "The pleasure was mine, my lady. "

1 star off for the stilted writing, because it really does take you out of the story and makes characters feel less relatable, but otherwise, the book was AMAZING. I'm glad Frost didn't rush the book, After what Sage went through in book 3, she deserved an entire book dedicated to her healing. Kudos to Frost for knowing just how to write a book that was mostly talk into an extremely fascinating portrayal of what PTSD and being broken as a person looks like.

King's Warrior

By Frost Kay

The Aermian Feuds #4

Compared to the last book, this was fairly mild but my heart was torn out and I wanted to kill the warlord in the aftermath of all the depravities he had committed on Sage and Jasmine.

After escaping the clutches of the Scythian warlord, Sage, Jasmine and Blaise are in bad shape, physically and mentally. Blaise is Scythian so she I less traumatized than the other two who are now surrounded by people who love them and will care for them.

Sage and Tehl need to reconnect while trying to prepare for war with the Scythians who are stronger and faster than Aermians. They need to reach out to the mythical Sirenidae and the Methians to unite if the world wants to survive the Scythian warlord. He's already committed genocide on two other races so he must be stopped.

I can't get enough of this series. The next book is not out yet but it will he called Spy's Mask. I wonder if this will be about Sam or is the warlord sending in a spy?

After the insane events of the third book in this series, Enemy's Queen, I didn't know what to expect from King's Warrior. We're left off at a very broken place. Everyone is going through their own version of pain and tragedy and honestly, it's hard to see how these characters are going to claw their way back to themselves. Especially Sage. But Kay blew me out of the water with her slow-healing story. This is a compliment, you can't bandaid the kind of torture she lives through and just push the story forward without watching the character relearn how to live and love again. The kind of love shown in this book made me cry SO MANY TIMES. I've never cried so much from a story, as I did with this one. It's tragic and stunning. A true example of how we should love others and ourselves. I will read anything and everything by Ms. Kay for the rest of her career.

I just don't know if there is a point of even reviewing these anymore. If you are looking for a quick entertaining read that is heavy on the romance, look no further. If you are looking for something with more bite, gusto, pinash, magic of any kind or any fantasy inspired creatures, quickly look the other way and don't allow yourself to be enticed by the delicious, let me get my hands on it, cover. You will be bitterly disappointed.

This picks up where Enemy's Queen left off, Sage is free of the warlord and back in the arms of Tehl. But nothing actually happens after that. I kept waiting for retribution...for political machinations...but nothing happened. We got a small glimpse into the war room but that was it. No major preparations, no battles, everything was on the same level of tame. And I was bored.

I have a vague sense that months had passed through this novel, but I am not entirely sure because I think Kay herself was not sure how much time had passed. We had one sentence that explained that a week or more had gone by, only to be contradicted by another that said only a few days passed. So which is it?

So what was this about? This was about Sage and Tehl and how they reconnected. Their romance was slow burning and sweet and lovely to see it blossom...but that is literally all that happened. I would say this was more romance than it was fantasy, because nothing happened. We were introduced briefly to some mystical creatures and I got excited expecting something more...and nothing happened (are you seeing the theme here?). Was this about the physical and mental healing of wounds? Yes, I suppose I can say that. But it just had the potential for so much more to happen. Characters are starting to be one dimensional and flat.

Ugh. Why is there going to be a 5th book!? WHY? This could have been a fast paced action packed novel instead of its nothingness.

My, my, my... this series just keeps getting better and better!

I'm not going to say anything about the plot, because this is a continuation series and I don't want to spoil past books. But I will tell you that the writing is just as solid, detail and gripping as the others. But this book, is darker, and it has some triggering moments. So I will give you fair warning that there are scenes that aren't for the faint of heart, and depicts assault.

With that said, I'm going to leave you with my overall thoughts of this book. It was for me, the best so far. This series is taking a turn that you don't see coming; and frankly, I like it. I can't wait for the next book, because, this series is breaking all the rules, turning trops and cliché's on their heads, and giving you fresh original material, that keeps you not only engaging, but wanting, no needing more. It's that books that you didn't know you needed, and hooks you like a drug.

This book, this series, gets my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval.

Happy Reading

WHAT?!?!? It can't end there!!!!
At the start of every book in this series, I always DREAD to read its prologue. Because I found that the prologue- acts as a prophecy of sorts. Whatever it decrees, will be word. And it terrifies me that no matter the outcome, I must simply lay await as spectator. Unable to change a single thing.

Witnessing Sage's torment, but also her evolution as a new being was awe-spiring to say the least. But just as Sage knew that something very terrible was on the horizon, so did I. The prologue made it seem as if this book would avenge all that has been stolen, lost, and forgotten. And while only part of it was recovered, there was still MUCH left untouched.

I honestly thought the series would end with this book. But as I found myself nearing the end of the book- then actually hitting it, and not encountering an End of any sort.....to say I was baffled would be an understatement.
Now I'm just plain terrified. Because with the way it all ended....I have to say, I now worse than dread the finale of this series. With all its unveilings to come.

There’s not much for me to review in this book that I haven’t already covered in the prior books… because basically all of this has happened before.

Plot-wise, there’s no movement. We're at the same point as we were when we started this book. This installation is heavily focused on Sage’s mental recovery and her relationship with Tehl.

I might have enjoyed this book more if we had all of these character focused parts mixed in with some plot progression, but it kind of felt like the same conversations were being had over and over again from chapter to chapter. So.. again, I found myself pretty bored throughout and wishing for more action and politics.

This book is very dark. I did not expect that. There are a lot of characters and you can keep them straight. This is a creative fantasy novel but I don’t think I like it.

Breathtaking!!
I worried a little as I began this book that I was in for a world of angst. That can tend to happen with some series that stretch beyond a trilogy. I worried because I cannot stand excessive angst due to poor or utter lack of communication. Big sigh of relief that did not happen in this book!! Once again Frost showed why she is one of my favorite contemporary authors- because she is telling a story that happens to need more than one book to be told, NOT stretching a story to fit a certain number of books! Does that make sense? And this story is so good!
If you are contemplating reading this book perhaps you've read the 1st 3 and are wondering whether to keep reading- the answer is YES!! Absolutely keep reading! Everyone you've met before is here and you get to know & love (mostly) them even more. Imperfect people who have a lot of love for their friends, family and those who need defending.
If you have not read any of these books, don't start here, go get Rebel's Blade, book 1 and start there. Lucky you because books 1 through 4 are all relased! (When I started this series only 1 & 2 where out but I didn't realize that and may have yelled "nooooo!!!!" in my head when I reached the end of book 2 & realized I had to wait for the next book!) This book is not the end- more to come!
I love high fantasy by authors like C.S.Lewis, Robin McKinley, Kelly St. Clare & K.M.Shea so if you share any of those authors as favorites I think you'll love The Aermian Feuds Series!!

This review for the entire Aermian Feuds series. I flew through all six books of these books in one week. I almost feel like this series could be three longer books instead of six 350ish page novels. I really enjoyed the journey and LOVED all of the characters in these stories. The romance is definitely slooooow-burn through the first few books but it is well worth the wait. I love getting caught up in a series like this where you just keep 1-clicking until you reach the end :) It's been a while since I found a series that kept me intrigued until the very end. Overall very satisfying experience and will definitely be re-reading through it again. If you like any of the following - Throne of Glass, Darkest Drae, Chronicles of the Warlands, Tairen Soul, Folk of the Air - Aermian Feuds has similar themes, romance, world-building, plot lines, etc. Frost Kay is a skilled writer and does a wonderful job with character development. I know some reviews mention certain problematic aspects (i.e. masochism, violence, abuse, torture, threats of rape) but i feel all of it serves an important part of the plot and is supposed to be recognized as something problematic, if that makes sense.

There are no easy words to describe the way I feel about this book and series. This book, as are the others in the series, is very well written. It has some well described deep moments where Sage suffers with nightmares and during the day, she blanks out reliving the horror. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to experience what Sage went through and yet Ms Frost describes her pain like a pro. And Tehl I have fallen in love with. He is right there to support Sage and ease her through her pain bringing her back to the present. Now Aermia is forced to prepare for war with the Scythians. As we read about Aermia gathering their allies, the reader is in for a big surprise! You will never see it coming. Last of all, we hit the dreaded cliffhanger. And, of course, I am going to read the next book in the series. I can hardly wait. I hope we don’t have to wait long as I will be biting my nails to the quick until then. I highly recommend reading this book as you will be greatly entertained.

Too much PTSD

I’m sick and tired of this currently fashionable and overused plot device. In previous installments she had PTSD due to a different situations. It’s all forgotten- new one appeared and replaced forgotten old one. Can you just stop beating us over the head with the same plot device and put it rest? It’s unbearable and cliche! Also boring, repetitive and uninspired. Give us back the heroine from book 1 - this one is just too weepy, wimpy and frightened yet continues on being stupid. Wake up! Yes, bad things happen but we want someone that can inspire, overcome and be a warrior she was supposed to be. Hated the book - only some sexy times with her husband saved it from 1 star review. I guess one needs to read it to understand the dynamics between the main couple - one chapter would have taken care of it instead of reading mush about her diving into memories at the most inopportune times. Grrhrrr.

King’s Warrior is the brilliant fourth novel The Aermian Feuds series by Frost Kay and is another richly told, emotional and riveting instalment in what is a fast paced and thrilling series.

Sage Ramses is a shadow of her former self after the abuse and treatment she received at the hands of the warlord of Scythia. Though she is back home in Aermia, Sage is haunted by memories and nightmares; unable to let go of all she went through. As Sage retreats into herself, Tehl struggles with how to help his wife after her months held hostage by a monster. Having come so close to loosing her, he knows more than ever how important Sage is not only to the Crown, but to him personally. And he’ll do whatever it takes to help her heal. As war looms on the horizon, Sage and Tehl will have to rediscover each other once more while trying to protect their people from a force more deadly than anything they have ever encountered before.

Continuing on from where the previous novel left, King’s Warrior was an emotional and riveting novel in Frost Kay’s highly addictive and enjoyable fantasy series. After the heartbreaking events of Enemy’s Queen, King’s Warrior details the aftermath of Sage’s experience in Scythia and primarily depicts her struggles to come to terms with all that she has been through with who she now is whilst our beloved Aermian characters and their comrades prepare to stand against the warlord and his invasion of Aermia.

Sage truly is a shell of her former self in King’s Warrior. After all she went through as a prisoner and forced consort to the warlord, Sage feels dirty and scarred. She has never been more vulnerable and afraid as she was in this novel and my heart yearned for the fiery, sarcastic Sage of old. Sage spends a lot of this novel struggling to deal with her thoughts and feelings associated with her time as a hostage. Similar to what victims of Stockholm Syndrome experience, Sage clung to the miniscule moments of kindness and affection the warlord showed her during her time in Scythia to survive and in this instalment she must reconcile the feelings these experiences and moments bring in her with what she knows of love and kindness.

Yet despite it all, there is so much beauty in this novel in the form of Tehl and the gentle compassion and acceptance he shows towards Sage. Far from the cold ruler Sage first thought him to be, Tehl is an unwavering beacon of strength and kindness as Sage faces her darkest moments; supporting her and helping her learn to trust once more. The relationship between Sage and Tehl is a true testament to love as they learn each other again in a deeper, more poignant way. Former enemies, Sage and Tehl become husband and wife in more than just name as they support and help each other. The accepting and moving way that Tehl stands by Sage in her road to happiness is truly beautiful and only goes to showcase what an amazing man and person he is. Theirs may have been a marriage of circumstance and arrangement to benefit the kingdom of Aermia, but their dedication to each other—especially on Tehl’s side—and the respect and love that has grown between them is nothing short of beautiful.

Alongside Sage in her road to recovery is Jasmine who also has a long way to go. Frost Kay’s developments for her are intriguing and interesting and I’m looking forward to seeing her heal and bring Sam to his knees. Oh, and the possibility of a relationship between Rafe and Blaise is exciting too---I very much would not have expected that seeing as he was previously sure that Sage was his mate.

Building wonderfully and with purpose, I can’t wait to see what is next in this series. Frost Kay continues to bewitch me and enchant and with King’s Warrior ending nicely on the whole I’m ready to jump straight into the next story to see what Sage and Tehl are in for next!

When I read the first book and how she was describing trauma and just all of Sage's experiences, I didn't have super high hopes for the rest of the series but I was interested enough to keep going. Sage has gone through so much as a character and there's a really interesting dynamic presented, she's still struggling from everything as any normal person would but she's also so much stronger because of it. I wanted to say that Sage wasn't the best protagonist at the beginning and all of her back and forth was annoying but now I can see how well her arc is shaping up and it's getting really good.

I will say in terms of just technique there are some elements of this series that can kind of detract from the experience. There are a few grammatical and spelling errors peppered in and the dialogue can feel so stunted and unnatural. I think it might be getting better from the first book but maybe that's just my growing attachment to the characters. It's not the worst, I've read quite a few bad books and this one just could use a bit of further editing. And the full length pieces of writing from the previous novel without any real changes are a real turn off that made me pretty mad.

The romance is also a lot better. I was previously doubtful of this being any good in a romantic scope at all but I think it really redeemed itself. Neither of them is pushing each other, instead of hiding from the trauma they've built a really nice support system on mutual respect. I also love their interactions with their separate families it just feels so much more wholesome and natural. I'm really concerned for them and scared for their outcome but right now they're doing so much better than they were.

I think this got very interesting though and I can't imagine how much more exciting the next couple of books are going to be. I'm a little concerned with how you can fill a whole two full length books when it feels so close to the peak of the conflict, but it's not going to stop me from reading it.

Book 4 Review

Another strong installment to the series that moved the story along nicely. The real struggle Sage had in the aftermath of her captivity was the focus of this book and it was presented well. The book doesn't attempt to solve her problems, but shows her working on them. We leave her on the path of healing. I appreciate the realistic feel this gives the series and the character. I found myself tearing up frequently, but maybe I'm a sap.

The 3rd book of this series was so dark, and very disturbing. Ritualized rape and devaluing of females is no easy topic to cover, and while not all of that happens to our MC, what she witnessed and lived through was nonetheless truly horrifying. Book 4 isn't quite as obviously dark; but there is an insidious darkness brought on by Sage's struggles with her sanity and memories. In some ways the aftermath is worse, because it is both more in her control and less. She is free of him if she chooses to be free of him, but it's (obviously) not as simple as choosing.

My only complaint is the double standard regarding male and female sexuality in this series. It irks me that women are held to a different standard - and yes that was or is still now (perhaps depending in where you live or what you believe) how the real world works. I just loathe it on principle. Anyway, this made Jas's storyline a bit frustrating for me and frankly I want thrilled with Sam's high handedness, even if he intended to help her. Call me crazy, but backing someone into a corner who just discovered how much she didn't have a choice in what happened to her before is wrong. IMO it was one of the most damaging and arrogant things he could have done.

If you've liked the series so far, I think you will enjoy this installment. Door those who have been holding out on this series, I think book 4 leaves us past some of the darkest and most disturbing events in the series (I hope!). I will keep my fingers crossed that book 5 continues with Sage healing more tagged than sending us back to be submerged in dark themes like we did in book 3.

We have come a long way with Sage, Tehl, and the others. In this book, Sage has just been rescued from the Scythian warlord Zane. As she, Jasmine, and Blaise recover physically, they must also recover mentally and emotionally. Sage and Tehl are able to connect in a way they never have before, and Sam makes a huge decision regarding his future. Meanwhile, war with Scythia looms, and Sage, Tehl, and King Marq attempt to secure the help of neighboring regions against Scythia.

This is probably my favorite book from Frost Kay so far. The character development in this series is really phenomenal. I didn't really like Sage in the first few books, but this book had me totally engaged the whole way. I am beginning to understand Sage a little better, and I was happy to see her gain a little bit of stability in this book. It's very emotionally driven, and I enjoyed the experience of reading it. I really felt the emotions of the conversations in this book. The best part about this book was the relationship growth of Tehl and Sage. Sage has been through SO much - it's kind of unreal how much she has been abused -- so it has been very interesting to see how that has affected her.
I liked that there were a few more perspectives included in this book (which is weird because normally it kind of bugs me when there are too many POVs).
I'm certainly invested in this series, and I am truly looking forward to seeing how things go in the next book.

This series has been an amazing action packed and heartbreaking ride. To me there is never a greater story than a woman or women who claw theirselves out of hellish circumstances and still retain the essence of themselves and to know that women have done it irl and are still doing it today is both awe inspiring and strengthening.

Yes this world is messed up, yes there is evil running rampant, and yes there are victims and survivors that are going to reign down some pain! I can’t wait to see it!

In this 4th book of the Aermian series Sage and her friends have escaped the evil madman’s clutches but their fight as survivors has just begun. The Stockholm syndrome is very real. They must claw themselves from Zane’s clutches even still. Sage wars with herself and battles her guilt and blames herself and all the while the kingdom must prepare for the inevitable war as they attempt to form alliances and save the world.

This book in truth was less of the physical action we are used to seeing from Sage and more of the mental battles she faces as a survivor of a madman. It was very heavy, both the topics and the feels. I hope in the next book we get to unleash Sage’s savage side. I really can’t wait till book 5!

This picks up right where book 3 ended.
We see Sage going through some serious PTSD. And understandably so!
Her relationship with Tehl was very rewarding, I sighed, finally! LOL
The story continues to be good. At the end of book 3, I was seriously contemplating if I cared enough to continue the series. I'm glad I am. There's another short story between book 4 and book 5. It's Maeve's story.
This one, the kingdoms are getting ready for war. I thought, honestly, the warlord was dead at the end of book 3. Nope. I was wrong, sadly. What a creep!
In this one, there's lots of profanity still. Some serious PTSD related stuff. Like nightmares, vivid memories, night terrors, pushing people away, & attempted suicide. Could be triggers for some readers. There's some sensuality. Jasmine is a victim of rape (unbeknownst to her--happened when she was drugged in Scythia. And there's a sex scene (between Sage & Tehl). Now, before you toss the book due to that, let me say, it is very tastefully done. "A melding of bodies." That's about as graphic as it gets and then it's a fade to black. So, lots left to the imagination.
Oh, and Sam gets married! Squeal!!
And Sage gets a horse!
But the most rewarding part of the story is that Tehl & Sage confessed their love! (insert girly sigh here)

This book picks up right where the last one left off. It is the story of how Sage finds herself after experiencing such soul destroying brain washing after already having endured physical torture. Of what it does to a person to have their body changes against their will.

The answers to these questions includes a large dose of Sage's internal strength of will, but is bolstered by her family and allies and most especially Tehl. This is the book where the feelings they have for each other and their marriage becomes crystal clear. I enjoyed reading it, but at the same time, I had wished I had read Crown's Shield more recently, as what I remembered taking away from that book didn't match up with what was stated in this one around where Tehl and Sage were in their relationship prior to her being kidnapped.

In addition to the healing, this book is about being prepared for the inevitable attack by the warlord. We get to learn a bit more about Rafe and I adored what I saw about him and his country. Time is also spent on other characters like the King, Sam, Jasmine and Blasie etc and I appreciate the richness of these characters and what they bring to these novels.

What a Journey

This series has been on my TBR list for a while. Once I started with Rebel’s Blade I couldn’t stop. Four days later I have laughed, cried, and fallen in love with these characters. I especially loved Siren’s Lure as a companion novel, which provided so much background. While the themes of torture and abuse make me highly sad and uncomfortable, the compassion and empathy for situations of trauma was well done. My heart won’t stop beating wildly at the journey. I am most thankful for the love that has finally been put on the table for Tehl and Sage with such raw fervor and honesty. I cannot wait for the next book. Let’s crush the damn Warlord please. Would love to see more of Sam and Jas’s journey, there is so much pain and healing to explore there. With the potential for more love and companionship. Hopefully we will see more of Gav and Rafe too (can’t help but love a stubborn ass like Rafe see some growth). Also, will we finally meet Sage’s brothers on the page? I am hooked, line and sinker.

*I was given an Advance Reader Copy for an honest review*
OMG. THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!!!! Sage has just been through HeXX. She thought coming home would be the relief she needed to get away from the ever powerful Zane. But how does one return to normal when everything has changed. Tehl thought that returning her home would solve everything. But how does he need to care for the new Sage? Can the two learn to love each other?? Zane is coming for them and in order to survive, they will have unit everyone. But is that even possible??
Now the main focus in this story is Sage and Tehl. But or lovable Rafe, Sam, Jasmine, and Blasie are still very important. We even have some new couples. Who I definitely support!!! The relationships in this book gave me so many awe moments. I loved every second and can't wait for the next one. Now warning a couple does get hot and heavy. But it not too in depth it is actually very well done and I love how Frost wrote it!! This book will definitely hook you from the beginning and leave you wanting more!!!

Loved this book in the series. Getting to see Sage pull herself somewhat back together, at least to a point where her and Tehl could further their relationship was great to read. I actually know someone like Tehl, where they are essentially emotionally stunted to some extent. It's hard for them to Express themselves in a way that people are used to. To me Tehl is so endearing. You can tell that he really loves and cares for Sage, he just doesn't quite know how to show it in the way that most people do. Nonetheless, Sage and Tehl are able to mend their relationship and take it to the next step, and have a true marriage.

After the last book which was rough to read to say the least, this was a breath of fresh air to the series. It gave a reprieve from all the torture and nail biting that the last book put us through.

I'm definitely looking forward to see what happens in the rest of the series.

Great continuation.

I kind of feel like a broken record on book 4, but I wish there was more. I wish the book was longer, so we had better character development. This book did very well for the 2 MMCs, but we are now being given more insights into the others, and there needed to be more. We only get glimpses, and it feels more distracting than actually adding to the storyline.
However, for the length of the book it is, I really enjoyed it. There was great storyline and drama. I loved the growth and trust in this book.
*This book is a VERY mild R, perhaps even PG-13. There is one spice scene, and while it describes kissing, very mild touching (hips/sides), and emotional feelings, there is no actual spice description. It isn't quite FTB, but the description is sweet and very vague. There is no swearing. Also, the violence is just rumor, nothing on page in this book.
