Join Simon as he learns that a dog may be man’s best friend, but a hellhound’s love can dwarf any obstacle.
Orlando Sanchez has been writing ever since his teens when he was immersed in creating scenarios for playing Dungeon and Dragons with his friends every weekend. An avid reader, his influences are too numerous to list here. Some of the most prominent are: J.R.R. Tolkien, Jim Butcher, Kat Richardson, Terry Brooks, Piers Anthony, Lee Child, George Lucas, Andrew Vachss, and Barry Eisler to name a few in no particular order. The worlds of his books are urban settings with a twist of the paranormal lurking just behind the scenes and generous doses of magic, martial arts, and mayhem. Aside from writing, he holds a 2nd and 3rd Dan in two distinct styles of Karate. If not training, he is studying some aspect of the martial arts or martial arts philosophy. He currently resides in Queens, NY with his family and can often be found in the local Starbucks where most of his writing is done. Since Peaches is my favourite character I was looking forward to this one.
Peaches is fabulous as always. Simon however is a little on the slow side here.
One thing which annoyed me, it has with the other books as well but they’re longer. With this being shorter it stood out more. Is the constant recapping. This is a series where you have to read all the books. It’s not one where you can pick up an odd book at random. So why do we have to have the explanation of how he got Peaches, what SuNaTran is etc
Doesn’t everyone want their own hellhound? Maybe not one that gets as big as a bus, eh?
Simon takes it all in stride. But his partner insists they get control of Peaches, a hellhound gifted to Simon by Hades himself. It wouldn’t do to have a super sized hellhound with laser beam eyes rampaging through the city.
So Simon and Peaches are sent to obedience school, the instructor being Death, or Ezra as she prefers to be called. They must pass the test or things could go really bad. Simon, a mere human thrown into a world of the paranormal, thinks its a nuisance but Peaches is game.
I came into this not knowing what to expect. From the synopsis, I had a good feeling it would be fun. It was tons of fun. Simon is still new to the paranormal world and fumbles, a lot. He also tends to run off at the mouth, trying everyone’s patience. But Peaches. Peaches is game for anything as long as there is food and plenty of it.
The action doesn’t take long to get going. The moment they enter the training area things go from dicey to a fight to the death. As Simon struggles to use anything available, Peaches actually has to step in to train his human. It was a wild ride from there on and kept me glued to the pages.
Did I enjoy this dip into Orlando’s Montague & Strong paranormal urban fantasy series? Yep. Will I read more? You betcha! Would I recommend it? An enthusiastic yes!
The purpose of these short stories are to fill in the blanks left by our author Orlando Sanchez during the Montague and Strong Case Files Series. Peaches’ training was referenced but not explained during the series. I enjoy Peaches’ minimalist focus for meat as the reason and solution for most things as well as the healing properties of his saliva. Peaches is definitely a proper Hellhound.
Ah, Peaches, gotta love him. He is the caretaker...oops...bonded mate with simon and he and the hellhound are having trouble with their inability to work through their bond. Doggie training is in order and the two are left in danger and must rely on each other to survive. Can they do it? I hope so because I need them to be there for the next book in this fabulous series. I would recommend this series to all to read
Author Orlando Sanchez has a great series underway with Simon Strong and Tristan Montague, fearless fighters and detectives keeping New York safe for humans. Hellhound Peaches is one of the best characters in the whole series and a story featuring him ought to be 6 stars for sure.
The problem is, a couple books back Sanchez started portraying Simon as clueless, ignorant, incurious and generally operating on reflex, not brains. The series is suffering from this and in A Proper Hellhound Simon acts more like a whiny teenager than the super duper operative he should be.
Off-shoot from the 'main' Montague and Strong novels, in which Peaches (Strong's faithful hellhound) has to go to obedience classes, after chewing up some of Montague's shoes.
Which, as anyone who has ever owned a dog will tell you, is quite a common thing for a puppy to do.
Most puppies, however, are not hellhounds, nor do they possess the ability to grow to the size of a small bus or shoolt laser beams ('baleful glare') from their eyes ...
All of which Peaches can do.
I fairly flew through this one - think I read it in less than a single afternoon - which you can normally take in one of two ways: it's short, or it's good. to that, I'd add a third option: it's also rather enjoyable for what it is!
Perhaps if I had read one of the other books in the series, this book would have made more sense. I bought this book from Amazon because it sounded interesting. It was interesting but quite confusing since it is a continuance of a series which I have not read one book. I found this story to be rushed as though the author was sure that you had read his other books in the series and so knew who was who. In fact, it took me quite a while to realize that the main character was a male and not a female! The "test" was so quick that it barely seemed to be a test at all for the "hero" and Peaches (her hellhound). Now as a word of warning...I am a 61-year-old woman so maybe I'm too far removed from my youth to thoroughly understand or enjoy this book.
This novella is the next adventure in Peaches and Simon's life. Seems Monty was not happy with how Peaches gently chewed on a pair of his favorite shoes. Peaches' defense was they were old and the angry man does not like old things. Which prompts Monty to call Ezra and set up training for Peaches to make him a proper hellhound.
Simon takes Peaches to be trained, but things don't always work out right when training a hellhound. Peaches is at his best, but Simon might need eyedrops.
Short but, but a great story, with more info into what makes up a hellhound and what they should fear.
The only reason it got 4 stars, is because it ended wayy too soon for my liking😂😂I was so enjoying it!! You gave us a hint as to what's been going on with Hades, the issues he's been facing behind the scenes, that might soon become an issue for Montague and Strong #AdventureAlert. You also gave us a new perspective of Strong and Peaches and the power they hold together ( it was great seeing Strong progress somewhat in his magical knowledge and skill). I'm really needing that next book ASAP, I'm dying over here!😂😂 Keep up the good work! I've really been enjoying the series and I'm eagerly awaiting the next book x
Fantastic novella featuring everyone’s favorite hellhound, Peaches, and his bumbling bondmate, Simon Strong. After finding one of his favorite pairs of shoes mangled by the precocious Peaches, Tristan arranges for Simon and Peaches to attend hellhound obedience school with Ezra. Let’s just say that Sit, Stay and Heel, are not exactly what they learn. If anything, they are just trying to survive the experience, but the only way to do that is through their bond. This is a quick, fun ride that gives us further insight into the Montague and Strong universe. Enjoy!
If you've ever had a dog, you know what it's like. We bring them into our homes, spoil them, and love them like family. We let them get away with murder. This was the life of Peaches. But, Peaches, while he's definitely mastered puppy-dog eyes, isn't a dog. He's a hellhound and hellhounds require a little extra training to keep all your furniture--and your friends--intact.
This is a great addition to the Montague & Strong series. As expected, it answers some questions and fills in some blanks, at the same time opening up a new set of possibilities for future stories.
Peaches, awesome to the extreme and a most faithful puppy now gets his own headlined adventure.. about time. Perhaps now he can buy meat rather than relying on Dex’s magic sausage.. welcome to the world of M and S.. stuff just got real. If you are thinking of reading this then do yourself a favour and plunge in, then go and get all the other M and S books and lose a few days/weeks on the wildest ride of your life 👍🏻👍🏻
I wanted a taster for a series I am considering for but the story was quite short and I suspect I landed too much in the middle. The writing is not bad and there is definite promise though, more so in a taster chapter of the first book in series than in the actual short story. Only thing that seriously bothered me though is that Simon and Peaches remind me of Atticus and Oberon a bit too much for comfort.
Really enjoyed the short story. As always though, I do prefer full length books, and happiest when able to lauch into a mulitbook series. 7 is wonderful and i can see you have plenty more books in this series inside. You certainly have no lack of ideas creativity or subject matter. Your writting is vibrant and fresh. Luckily for me while I wait for more M & S, I will get to try some of your other books. Thank you
This is a quick read. Simon and his hellhound puppy must bond in order to unite their powers. I like the action. I like how Simon and Peaches, the hellhound, communicate telepathically. This is the first book of this series I have read. I definitely want to read the rest.
First half has been gr eat.gimme more ,fin read, go eat take on A tired I, subjec great to find an original view to explore. On a rainy day at home!!! et
Will definitely lookkl for this author again, & tell my friends to Bolo hiise on also, id rather read than eat most of the time, thank you for shharing this with me today!!!! Loved it!!!!!!
Or, when Peaches really should have not chewed on Monty's loafers. The consequence there leads to obedience training or something approximating that concept. This is a very short story, but it frolics along at a steady pace, providing a better view of Hellhound 101. I found it a fun little read and I recommend it for Montague & Strong fans.
I've enjoyed every Montague and Strong novel I've read and this short continues the trend. It was quick, but put some very needed context to Strong and Peach's relationship.
As always it was fun and exciting, and funny. It you like urban contemporary hack and slash this is the pace for you.
I find it off-putting that they are so short. I read both of these in less than 5 minutes. There's just something wrong with a book containing two stories that consist of a third the words of the "about the author" and the acknowledgement. Not worth my money or my time.
Extremely humorous! I love the interplay between Simon and Peaches! Peaches has ruined a pair of Monty's shoes. Monty has decided it is time for Peaches to get some training with his bondmate. So it is off to Ezra's doggie/ hellhound school for the two of them. Enjoy the learning and changes that occur between hellhound and bondmate. I highly recommend this book!
Peaches get the full immersion treatment that bonds them and Strong uses Peaches baleful glare to destroy Shadow-hounds and Rakasasas. They pass the full immersion test and survive. Strong arm is badly injured and Peaches save him and his arm. They end up at Haven only to be visited by Hades.
I am really enjoying these little glimpses into the back stories of these characters!! Of every character that has been introduced, Peaches is my favourite! Mr. Sanchez strikes the right note in the relationship between Strong and Peaches. I find myself anticipating what these two will find to get into every book.
A delightfully simple short, filled with outstanding combat, colorful scenery, and a boy and his dog learning to be better together. Two thumbs and four paws of acceptance...
I can’t really say much more without spoiling it. The mostly ignorant immortal and the hellhound with a heart of gold explorer their relationship. What? No, not that way. Perverts.
Simon and Peaches are suppose to be getting Lessons on keeping peaches from chewing things. But they get something else . It's a little short story. .leaves you wanting more. Peaches is so lovable . I really enjoyed it.
Loved this little story about Simon Strong and his adopted hellhound, Peaches. If you aren't familiar with the Simon & Strong Detective series this little story is a perfect sampling for you to try. I think you'll want to read more of their adventures.
This Montague and Strong story is more of a Strong and Peaches story. Excellent. Well done story that developed the Strong and Peaches relationship much more. It is also a quick fix, leaving you wanting the next Montague and Strong story.
