Grid Down
A small, northeastern town lay in ruins after a mysterious electromagnetic pulse causes a massive blackout, leaving residents stunned and unprepared. But the loss of power is only the beginning. With no signs of assistance on the horizons and no way of knowing how far the blackout has spread, residents are left to deal with a world without power, communications, and vehicle mobility. The government is absent. Food and supplies have been pillaged, and families must choose whether to stay or flee. However, nothing can prepare them for the onslaught of a horde of escaped convicts who band together and take over the town.
Good story, but the grammar was bad. Needs to be gone through by a professional proofreader. Spell check didn't correct words that were actually words, just not the correct ones.
I love any EMP stories . This one I enjoyed very much. I liked how you developed the main characters on both sides.... Husbands and wives. I wish Antonio was not killed tho. The dragging it out for his family knowing too. That is just me tho. It didn't add to the story for me. I really liked it tho. I read it over a weekend . Didn't want to put it down.
The bulk of the stories focus on 2 sets of characters and 2 sets of conflict between them and unsavory elements.
The bulk of the first three stories concern the events that take place within the time period 2 months before as well as the beginning days and months following an EMP blast which causes chaos within the entire United States.
Featuring Naomi Baxter, her husband Calvin, their two children and a group of friends and their family members these stories set up the tone for the entire box set.
The bulk of the remaining three stories take place within the modest cornerstone of Rockland County West of the Hudson River, and the small village of Nyack, New York itself 2 months after the EMP.
The many characters who inhabit it's tales range from a group of 6 travelers led by a Baptist minister, named the Reverend Allen Phelps.
A group of preppers, led by Rob Parker and his wife Mila, followed in these tales are located outside the small village of Nyack, New York in a five cabin, three acre camp in the rolling forested hills of nearby Bear Mountain
In this ending 3 stories everyone left in the camp must face off with and defeat the mayor in the renamed community of "Tarturus" Arthur Jenkins, a former 6 year resident of Rockland County Correctional Institute.
Before the EMP attack Arthur had been sentenced to fifteen years on racketeering and conspiracy charges involving a pharmaceutical drug trafficking scheme. His parole hearing had actually been scheduled on the very day the event happened.
Leading a group of other former convicts in the two short months following the EMP, Nyack, the quaint inner suburb frequented by tourists because of its proximity to the Hudson River, had a new identity and a new name: “Tartarus,” chosen by its new leader and self-proclaimed mayor, Arthur Jenkins.
What transpires in the pages of this box set has both action oriented and violent scenes that portray a realistic interpretation of the expected events taking place after such a set catastrophic events.
Between good and evil the lines are drawn and blur during the fight for survival for both law abiding and lawless characters alike.
Poor editing throughout the entire set brings it's own problems to the read but does not fully detract from how involved this world and its inhabitants are.
EMP stories are some of my favorites...but not this one. I read all three of these books, tho I don’t know why I bothered. The story was not at all original or unique, but you run into that a lot when you read a lot of the same genre so I’m not too surprised by that part. To me, this series was full of unrealistic scenarios, based around poorly written characters. The characters and their choices didn’t match up at all, in my opinion. The worst part of this series was the actual writing and editing. Words missing, spelling errors and the worst grammar that I’ve ever seen in one series. Due to this series, I will avoid this author like the plague.
Story was decent but the proofing left a lot to desired. Basic premise for an after the collapse story. Characters were defined but highly indecisive in my opinion. By that I mean the heroes of the story. They are constantly being attacked but each time they are soul searching the morality of ending the threat thereby leaving themselves open for more threats and assaults.
I don't usually write a review but at least this story kept on with a smooth flow you never see what is around the corner until the story unfolds. And then you see the logic on how "it could" happen. If you read this story, and yes the spelling is not good and I never see any books anymore where the spelling or typo is good anymore, you should still be able to enjoy the story anyway and I did.
Family is not only what your born with but what you create with bonds of friendship and love . If an EMP pluse hit the USA today how many of us would be able to work together.Read the box set and maybe learn how to work together.
Can't wait for the next book in the series. Will keep an eye out for more books by this author.
Uhh, I'm not crazy over this post-EMP book set. Although I did read all of it, it tried my patience. As an old English major, the editing was horrible. It was almost like those tests that say "if you can read this, you are a genius". There was not only grammatical errors but words where words didn't fit. I had to make up my own content several times and just go with it.
I thoroughly enjoyed both, I want more of this one though. Hoping for a follow up. It is so scary to think this could actually happen. I live in a big city with no where to run. I can only pray that something like this does not happen. If you want a different kind of scare and something to think about, then you need to read this set .
A very realistic and terrifying series about what can happen after an EMP hits the US. Learning how some survive and the horrors they deal with really makes the reader think and worry! Excellent series!
It was a page Turner. Greatly written. It's nice to see people work together especially when something so devastating happens. It keeps you wondering what happens next, who survives and how it ends.
A very quick moving group of adventures to keep you wondering what would happen in the future...I did not want to go to sleep until I finished reading. ,to the very end...
These are great stories that tie well into each other. I think I would like to know more about the who and why behind the EMP. I feel like there is a lot more story here to be told.
This is a fairly good read, However, the spelling errors, mostly incorrect words from using voice recognition software I guess is very annoyong. If the author or publisher are paying for proof reading, thats a shame. Book 1 was bad, book 2 is horrendous
These books need a lot of proofreading and editing. But the stories are good, and I hope to never see the day something like this happens! Very imaginative, though.
Absolutely spellllbinding! It certainly gives me something to think about. It certainly seems realistic. I can see this sort of thing happening. I believe I might become a prepper. Thank you so much for givin me this awesome day incite. Please keep writing.
The story follows a family who has to deal with the aftermath of an EMP. Things went downhill pretty quickly; I definitely wouldn't want to find myself in their shoes. Naomi is the wife and seems to be the stronger one in the relationship, although as the story progresses her husband, Calvin, becomes more bold. It's a good example of a disaster strengthening a bond as opposed to breaking a family apart.
I find this author very sloppy. His wording is awkward and needs to fire the proof-reader. One character's name gets used in place of the right one at one point. I just found it irritating. I'm struggling now to finish it, but I hate not finishing a book when I'm this far into it. I think I keep hoping it will get better. The storyline isn't bad, but...
