SURVIVING THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE: GONE
Edited by Monique Happy Editorial Services
98,000 words

Outbreak - Week 1

Presidents, premiers, entire governments disappeared instantly, like a fragile house of cards in a hurricane. Some hid deep underground or holed up in fortified strongholds, but most were swallowed up by the dead, never to be heard from again.

For Cade Grayson—doting father and patriotic Delta Force operator—the past week has been the worst dealt to him by life during his short thirty-five-year stint on planet Earth.

Following a hashed-together kill or capture mission that saw Cade and the newly formed Pale Rider team travel to Northern Utah to confront a band of escaped convicts turned cannibal, he returns to the compound in rural Utah with a grim task: bury three more of his people in the already crowded hillside cemetery.

With Zs flooding the valley to the east, and Chinese PLA scouts probing inland from the west, Cade immediately guns up and leaves the wire with his daughter, Raven, in tow. His new mission is twofold: to infuse Raven with as much survival knowledge as possible, and to find a close friend who has gone missing, feared dead.

But while Cade and Raven are away, the Eden group’s ranks are further thinned when two more of their own disappear.

Will Cade find outside the wire all that he is searching for?

Will Raven emerge from the crucible intact?

Caught between the proverbial rock and a hard place, will the remaining Eden members learn what has happened to the missing … or will they be GONE forever?

The Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse series is still going strong with it's 13th installment Gone. I really enjoyed the book. Cade and Raven still dealing with the passing of Brook go outside the safety of the compound. Cade wants to ensure his daughter can adapt and overcome any situation and can only do that by allowing her out where the danger is all around. Duncan also has to fight his own demons once again while searching Glenda. Always well written and engaging I highly recommend this series to anyone who has not read it.

Cade's Legacy....

Not what I expected since beginning the first novel to this one, it has been one running battle after another for Cade and the Pale Riders, completing one mission after another, feeling the loss of his friends and family has been our loss. Now more than ever he realizes even his indominable will one day fail him especially after the loss of his wife, Brook. He is more aware of his mortality and to that end he is going to make sure that his daughter, Raven will be as prepared for this new world as possible, teaching her everything he can in the time he has. He wants to ensure Raven has the skills needed to survive this new world knowing anything can happen since Mr. Murphy visits often.
And with Daymon missing, searching for him is the excuse he needs to spend time mentoring his daughter. Raven is aware of what he is attempting to do, although her anger at not being able to say a final farewell to her mother has overshadowed some of her lessons, she is quickly learning what her father is determined to teach her and she more than willing to learn while at the same time trying not to think about the day he will no longer be around. After all, even though he has always returned this is an enemy unlike any he has faced before. Add to that the North Koren soldiers that have begun to infiltrate the countryside.
And now Adrian and her cannibles dealt with, his only thought is to make sure Raven survives; this father-daughter road trip is mostly a chance to instill the knowledge she must learn to survive in case the inevitable happens.
Mean while Duncan has learned(possible spoilers) that Glenda is gone, leaving behind a 'Dear John" letter. He sets off in search of her and in the process finds he doesn't like what he has sunk back into. What he does is not something he is proud of but finding Glenda is his priority.
Back at the compound things begin to spin out of control and Cade has learned of two huge herds of Z's that are quickly merging, becoming more of a danger to everyone in the area. Circumstances has Raven putting in to practice what she has learned. The question is, will Cade survive a deadly encounter, not only with the Z's but the enemy soldiers leaving Raven behind to continue his legacy?
The story line is slow but necessary as it unfolds as Cade teaches Raven patience and more importantly to follow his instructions no matter what happens. Patience is also a must for the reader as the final chapters unfold bringing some closure to some quesstions and leave others open for the next installment and giving us some of the old Cade back as he fights for survival.

Clearminded and consistent

This book is as is the standard in the series, one part of the story. Some might call it simple, but the author goes into details and takes the time to explain things. Even though the author hasn't served as a soldier, he shows so much respect by researching the millitary and keeps the details correct. The main characters are not displayed as supermen, but as well trained and detailed oriented in their planning. No character are safe, but might at any time die. And even if that happens, the author has given them a personality.

In this story Cade brings his daughter with him on an expedition to find a friend that has left, and to work on her training. They bring Peter whom is the son of a friend from a nearby settlement that passed in the last book.

As always the story starts simple, but soon unfolds into a highly dangerous situation. Duncan leaves looking for Glenda, whom he believes has left him, and Cade runs into very heavy trouble.

As always, this book is exciting and filled with action, sorrow, joy and new opportunity.

THIS SERIES GETS BETTER WITH EACH BOOK THAT COMES ALONG...

What can be said, but another exceptional book in the series "Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse" from Shawn Chesser. This is another book that did not disappoint me and now just knowing the next book in this series doesn't come out until 2019 begins me to tears. Cade Grayson is doing all he can to,prepare his daughter Raven for the eventuality that sooner or later he will be gone from her life for good, which is something even I don't want to think or read about. With Duncan on his own trek & Daymon and some of the others all out and about, it's only natural that possibly one or a few may not make it back to safety. But with the Chinese on American soil, it will make it that much harder for our group to get back with everyone they call family. Definitely another must read in the amazing series from Shawn Chesser and one I will be sharing with everyone I can.

Excellent as Always

In this adventure, Cade is preparing his daughter, Raven to survive in the apocalyptic world. While he is training her, they are searching for Daymon. Duncan is chasing after Gloria and his sanity in this tale. Cade gets captured and tortured by the Chinese and is awaiting being reunited with Brooke when a rescue team arrives. Lots of action and an ending leaving us with a very injured Cade on the brink of death. At only 12, Raven has the skills of her father and the calm demeanor of her mother. It was an exciting book, very hard to put down and now the wait for the next adventure! Shawn Chesser knows how to keep the reader interested and involved. Excellent writing!

Beginning was slow, got back to its best at end

I struggled through the beginning of the book, often putting it down and hoping things picked up. About 3/4 through the story started picking up to its normal greatness and my faith is restored. Definitely looking forward to the next book.

A suggestion. Because this series is so long, I often forget the people associated with the names. A brief explanation of who each person in the book would be very helpful in resolving the problem.

Many thanks to Shaw for his continued work and effort.

Some may think that 13 books into a series that the writing and story may becoming been there, done that but I'm here to say, nothing could be further from the truth. Each book just seems to top the ones before. These emotionally charged, character driven stories from the genius mind of Shawn Chesser will keep you reading late into the night and hoping that you'll not have to wait too long for the next book. I highly recommend this book and series to anyone who loves the zombie/horror genre.

Worth the Wait

I have been following the adventures of Cade and his family and friends since the first book, TRUDGE. As always, Shawn Chesser, does not disappoint in keeping his story action packed and his characters really grow on ya. I don't want to give away anything but my heart is racing a little bit and I am feeling a bit anxious over a few things. Great weekend read!

Best One Yet!

Loved this chapter of the Survivors adventures from start to finish.
Shawn always keeps it real, fast paced and fresh.
People die, go missing, disappoint and rise up to the occasion as they do in life.
What an ending.....

Disappointing

Disjointed and a bit pedestrian. Almost as if going through the motions. Earlier books showed an intensity which been quite diminished by this edition. Sometimes it is better to go out on a high and have the crowd anxious for more.
