Oh, that’s right, we talk about your love life. We sit with you in class. We know all about that thing you did last night. How do we know? We watch you. We go to those dance clubs with you. We scheme hideous outcomes for you. We know exactly what it is that will get you to our side. We create those wrong friendships you wished you never had. We invite you into those relationships that break your heart. We give you the life you never wanted, but it came at such a sweet price. We promised you the world and you took it like a kid wanting candy. All. Too. Easy. All I can say is, please, don’t let me get in the way of the worst ending of your life. I’m right behind you. I’ll open that door to frustration, nonsense and destruction.

I couldn't put the book down - it was so wonderful to read. The book explores a behind the scenes look at "the rulers, the powers, the world forces of this darkness, the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places" called out in Ephesians 6:12. The Bible makes it clear that there is a spiritual battle going on around us, and this book shows us one way it could look.
I found the story to be very believable, with the main character going through the ups and downs we all face. She learned about the spiritual battle, but even better learned that Jesus is her friend, that he is always on her side and wants the best for her life. In the course of the book she gives here heart to Jesus, is drawn away by sadness, grief and pride. You will see the battles she faces, the emotions she feels, from joy to despair to anxiety to bitterness and then back again to peace, joy and a great sense of being home, in her safe place.
The book is a pretty quick read - probably because I wanted to see what was going to happen next, how her faithful friends would stand up to and attack the enemies of Jesus that were assigned to make her life miserable. My only suggestion would be to have made the book longer, so we could see and experience more of her life and the lives of her friends. And speaking of friends, this book is a clarion call to choose your friends carefully, and to have people in your life who will stand by you - physically and spiritually.
Congratulations, Sunshine, on a great book. I love your imagination and insight into the spiritual realm. I recommend this book to all believers in Jesus, and those who want to know the truth about what is going on around you that you cannot see.

***A Modern day twist on the classic Novel, “The Screwtape Letters” By C.S. Lewis***
My Thoughts: W all know that we are fighting a spiritual battle. This novel helps show us what we cannot see. This book takes a look into how the demons affect our lives.
This book is an eye-opener and will make the reader think about this battle that we are engaged in every day. One thing to remember is that prayer is our key weapon to fight these demons. This book was very engaging and eye-opening.
I highly recommend this book to all readers. It is suitable for young adult to older genterations of readers.
“After You” is an interesting take on “the Screwtape Letters” by C.S. Lewis. Similar to “Screwtape Letters,” Rogers uses the idea of two fallen angels trying to keep a human from going to heaven. But she changes the story to fit our modern day issues.
As a whole, the story was interesting and never seemed to drag. It was a pretty quick and easy read, and for the most part I really enjoyed the book. But I will admit, I didn’t completely love the book; however, I went into reading it thinking it would be a lot more like “Screwtape Letters.” My advice to readers is to take the story and think about how the questions are questions that we many times ask ourselves. I think if I had gone into it with that mindset, I think I would have enjoyed the story a lot more. As a whole, I think this book is worth a read.
Disclaimer: I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have a confession to make. When I first saw this cover, I was kind of scared to read it. In my years of reviewing books, I have learned to never judge a book by it’s cover, ever. I can honestly say that there are several books I might not have read if I saw them in the store because the cover didn’t sell me the book. But when you are required to review them, it’s kind of mandatory that you read them. Many times I have found these books to be absolutely amazing and well written. After You was everything I was expecting, and more. Some people may be sitting there wondering why they should read this book if they are a Christian. Won’t it taint your main? Won’t it bring you to the dark side? I’m here to assure you this will NOT happen. In fact, it opened up my eyes quite a bit. Evil is everywhere, and there is a spiritual war going on that no one likes to think about, or talk about. But. It. Is. Real. Somehow Rodgers has managed to show us how easily our thoughts and minds can be taken over by evil. It can and does happen! Rodgers brings such an interesting perspective here, and one that quite frankly scares me – in a good way. Sometimes you have to know how the other side is thinking and acting so you know how to better prepare yourself in a war. Although this book is fictional, I think it depicts it very well, and gives readers a glimpse into what may be going on with their friends, their loved ones, and just the world around us. This is a book that will stick with me for a long time. It certainly makes me think about all that is going on in the world, and how easily people can be overtaken by evilness. Rodgers has gone outside the box with this, and I think it’s a book that can open your eyes. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wow. What a powerful little book. It is a great contemporary story of spiritual warfare after the style of C S Lewis' The Screwtape Letters. It graphically portrays the power of prayer and the support of fellow believers in spiritual warfare. It gives good examples of how believers can be tempted and distracted. The main characters are teens so it would really speak to young readers.
The aspect of the novel that impacted me the most was the distinction between people who call themselves Christians and true Christ followers. Whether you are a true believer or not really makes a difference in spiritual warfare.
I highly recommend this book. It is not precisely theologically correct, I suppose. But then, it is fiction. Rodgers is clear in her note to readers that it is a fictitious look at what might be the minds and motivations behind the Enemy's work. It is certainly thought provoking!
I received a complimentary digital copy of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.
*4.5 ~I'd like to thank the author for sending me a free copy of this wonderful book in exchange for my honest review!~ This book definitely did not turn out as I expected. In a good way! Here, you can see how, in everyday life, temptations come in between us and God, and how it isn't always easy to choose the right way. It also shows the power of praying for others, and, even though YOU (or the person being prayed for) aren't doing the praying, it can still change everything. After You is written exquisitely- it almost felt as if I was right there, witnessing everything and hearing everyone's thoughts. I definitely enjoyed this one of a kind book, and am looking forward to reading more of Rodgers' books! ~Full Review To Come~
I don’t think I have read a book like one before. The demons wants to take over and God wants to save us from them. The book is a little suspenseful due to not knowing what the demons are going to try next. It is about an young girl in high school and the struggles she has at school and home. Basically it is from the view point of the demons. Definitely a different way of presenting God’s love. It is a short book, that has a great message to it. I was glad it was a short book for many reasons. I do like to read a short book once in a while. The book did keep me on the edge of my seat. See how the power of prayers wins out.
I received an complementary copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. I was not required to write an positive review. This is my own opinion.
Wow- a book that is written from the perspective of a demon and all of his hellish comrades . . . what an unpleasant and frightening thought. I haven't read a book this artfully written about the spiritual world since Frank Peretti's This Present Darkness. The way the demon worked, how he attached himself to our character, how he responded to help from Heaven, was all so artfully written and really made us a part of the action making the invisible warfare visible. It was truly an intriguing read that kept me on the edge of my seat, and I could not put it down until I finished. Our author truly gives us the view and mission of a demon- to ensure a soul's destiny to hell. To isolate the soul from those that would give them hope, to capitalize on every disappointment, to keep them distracted, to even drive them to an early death to secure their spot in hell. However, the hope we find in Jesus, every prayer for someone else, every prayer against Satan and his demons in someone's life- how that effects hell into terror and even more persecution of the soul. Spiritual warfare is real, and we need to have an arsenal of Scripture being ready to speak into our lives and others to rebuke Satan and his demons. We already have the victory in Christ- we just need to claim it. Thank you, Lord, for your presence, your protection, access to your throne, your love! As a Christian, I think any Christian should pick this up to remind them of the reality of warfare that is invisible to the eye but is a constant struggle, and one we can claim victory in for our lives and the lives of others.

This book is a great example of how the enemy subtly comes in and messes with your mind. You don't realize where these thoughts are coming from, but when you are vulnerable they start to make sense. In the story we find Jennifer trying to make it in high school. I remember my high school days. They were pretty awful and I was bullied for the first two years. I can see how easily you can begin to believe the lies and start to slip away from God.
The story is told from the devil's perspective and it is eerily a perfect account of how he sneaks into a young girls life and tries to derail her from God. The devil in this story is mean, thoughtless and ready to do anything to get her to follow him. He whispers in her thoughts, makes things happen that discourage her and tries to isolate her from her friends.
I enjoyed reading how her friends surrounded her and prayed with her. With the power of prayer the devil is not as strong in her life and it angers him. Will he give up or try even harder? It was interesting to read about confusion and strife as weapons against us. One of the main things the enemy wants to do is break up families. Jennifer is in for a battle when she gets devastating news from her parents. The enemy has an agenda and its a fight between good vs evil. Will Jennifer fall into the trap or will she examine her heart and follow God?
The author does make it clear that this story is a fictional account of the devil and what may occur in someone's life. I wanted to see more emotion in Jennifer and perhaps show the parents trying to hep their daughter. I know the enemy is out there, he is waiting for a way in and it can seem so easy foe him to slip in. At times I felt like it was about a group of girls trying to bully Jennifer and make fun of her because she went to church. The author needed a bit more substance to the story and not to rush through the fight between Jesus and the demon. It could have been more powerful if I could have known Jennifer better and the author focus on the strong faith of her friends. She left them in the background almost forgotten about at times. I always give an honest review and can't recommend this one simply because for me it was almost like the enemy seemed to be more powerful and I was very disappointed that her parents weren't allowed to reconcile.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
When I first started reading I was thinking I don't like this book and will not be able to give a favorable review but by chapter five I was liking more and was thinking maybe I could give it four stars but after finishing it I am giving it three stars and I will explain why in the following paragraphs.
I did find it a little confusing in some places, like when the demon was describing events that was taking place and then switched to his thoughts without any warning.
I thought the end was a little bit to worldly and read like a secular book with Jennifer's ex friends telling her she needed some ( sex) to feel happy and yes. Yes, I know people talk like this but this is a Christian book and rated pg13. Ok, I am old fashioned but I don't want my fifteen year granddaughter or my thirteen old grandson to read things like this in a book that I recommend to them.
I cannot decide if the ending is a cliffhanger to another book or if the story is really finished.
I wish the story would have showed more of the struggle between Jesus and the demon in the fight for Jennifer.
I recommend this book to older mature readers because the story does clearly show what demons do, they occupy your mind and make you do things that are always evil in themselves but things that steal our focus and thoughts off Jesus and steal time from prayer and Bible reading, things like shopping and phones apps.
A big part of this story is what happens when others pray.
My favorite part of the book is chapter 11. It is in this chapter that Jesus talks to Jennifer and tells her that He loves her and that she is the best thing that has ever happened to Him. This whole chapter was like God was speaking to me personally. It is good to be reminded that God loves us. I remember feeling lonely and was bullied in high school, so this chapter was like God telling me to put the past behind me and to love in His love now and in the rest of the life because even now that I am 59 I still have feelings of doubting His love and not being worthy of Him. Even If I don't ever reread this entire story again I will be reading chapter 11 again and again.
I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.
Although, I think it was a great story is was very interesting the writing style left me wanting more. But it was such a quick read I breezed right through it.
I loved how Sunshine showed the power of prayer and how it can effect the spiritual world. I definitely believe there is truth in that and we have no idea, but this book gives a peek into the possibilities.
There were sections that were prayers sent to Heaven that the enemy intercepted and I couldn’t read them. The font on my iPad didn’t should up very well and I ended up skipping those parts or trying to skim it for the general idea.
Overall, an interesting story with a powerful message.
A copy of this book was given to me through the Celebrate Lit Team. All opinions are my own.
A concisely written, easy but thought-provoking read meant to prompt the reader to earnestly consider the power of consistent and persistent prayer. This new to me author has decidedly impressed me with this relatively short but memorable story. Perhaps meant for a YA audience, the message of the very real spiritual battle is one all readers can take to heart. This would make an excellent study book for youth, parents and leaders. Must admit that the cover art kind of creeps me out, though, just sayin’!

This is a book for teens. This was a book about how demons seem to try to take over humans so that they can take them to Hades when they die. This shows how praying will help keep them away. It was a very interesting way to teach this lesson. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
Spirtiual warfare is not to be taken lightly and this book managed to paint it in light that many readers can follow and understand. It is creative and enjoyable to read. I haven’t fully processed what I have read and will go back to read it again, but I can say this book is one that leaves a reader with much to think about. I recommend this book
