Audio/Ebook Review: Love and Dreams (The Summer Sisters, #2) by Jean Oram (Author), Vanessa Moyen (Narrator)
Oram proves sweet can be sexy. I am loving getting to know the Summer sisters. Although their hearts may be in the right place, more often than not their intentions get lost trying to make their plans into reality. But the mischief is part of their charm and I love that about them. What's a little less perfect, when it comes to having a good heart? Maya and Connor are proof that there is no perfect. Just when you think you have life figured out, it throws you a curveball. For them a crazy little thing called love. They may have went about it all wrong but it turns out being just right. Oram and Moyen put the fun back in funny with their heartwarming collaboration.

Who does Maya Summer think she is? Did billionaire Connor MacKenzie really just stumble into her lap like a broken down old man? When Maya is hired to help Connor recover from a stress related medical stupor, she has no idea what she's getting into. Her cottage on a remote island in Ontario, Canada is full of fairy dust. The ending to this story by Jean Oram is one that I'd prefer to see, let the reader assume what they might.
The book was overall well-written. Jean Oram can certainly write.
My big problem with this book was that I really hated Maya. REALLY hated Maya. She has been written as such an awful character. Selfish, entitled, oblivious to others, impatient...
Connor is sick. Really sick. And Maya notices because three times we get her internal voice asking if she should take him to a doctor or something. But then she goes on to mock and belittle him for being so beneath her fitness level. She paces outside his room having a little temper-tantrum because he's asleep instead of kick-starting her career for her and complains every time he refused to start work.
Then she gets told by his secretary that he mustn't do any work under any circumstances and when asked why, she says that she wants to still have a boss in a week's time. Maya's internal voice says that isn't good, but the very next day she is nagging him to work with her. He has to keep telling her that he is on vacation, and therefore not working, and in the end, he has to leave to get away from her nagging. Selfish Maya strikes again.
And I'm meant to believe that Connor is falling in love with her? I just don't see it. You can have Connor tell me until the cows come home that Maya is a wonderful person, but I'm not seeing it. What I am seeing is an awful person. Just out for herself. A job. A kick-started career. A reference. Sexual pleasure...
We get a scene where Connor comes out of his room not looking the best, and he winces in pain. Maya sees it, but good old selfish Maya still tried to turn him on because if Maya wants sex, who cares if he's injured. And when he pulls away from her and leaves, she goes all sulky and offended because he's not leaping up to satisfy her.
Even right at the end, when they are about to have sex with each other, she's having a winge because Connor bought a house in the area and she wants to go to Toronto.
We're told that she's learned patience and networking, but she hasn't at all. She's still selfish and awful.
I'm glad Connor got out of the company and James had to pay for his lies, but overall I just didn't enjoy reading about Maya's life.
I'll read the next one, though, because Jean Oram is a good writer and if the characters are right, I'm sure I will enjoy it, but I'm glad to be walking away from this one.

I am a Baby Boomer and I had a hard time with Maya in spots. There is acertain saying, "book smart versus street smart". Here is a woman who graduated from university in the top of her class and she can't see how ill Connor is. He needs a vacation as his health has deteriorated to the point of a possible health crisis. A smart woman would realize that his health is bad and not pressure him for guidance in business. She kept pushing to where I was very annoyed. I felt she was very childish. I don't know if that is a generational gap but it was a big minus for me.
Maya Summer, the second of the Summer sisters, is a business school graduate with brains, drive, ambition, and maybe not such a good grasp of the importance of human connections. She thinks her family is too sentimental about the island cottage that's been in the family for generations. However, they are committed to keeping it, and she sees a possible way to both help pay the back taxes on it, and advance her own goal of landing the perfect job to launch her business career in Toronto.
Rent out the cottage as an "executive retreat," along with her own services as a summer assistant.
When Connor MacKenzie, business powerhouse, the "King of Toronto," giver of TED Talks on business, and Maya's own personal business idol, books two weeks on the island, Maya thinks her dream has come true and she's on her way.
Too bad Connor is there unwillingly, under pressure from his doctor and an ultimatum from his most trusted assistant at his company, CME. They have told him he needs rest, relaxation, recovery from the damage he's done to himself with his nonstop drive to rule the business world. He's at risk, his doctor says, of heart attack, stroke, and potentially a premature death. Stella, his assistant, points out his memory lapses, walking into doors and other objects, and other signs that he's just not all there. He knows, of course, that they must be wrong. He is young, strong, manly, the King of Toronto, a driving force of the business world. It's just the economy that's stressing him some, and he'll get through it. A few days will be all the rest he needs, and then he'll be back in Toronto.
Maya has a lot to learn about business and about people. In quite different ways, so does Connor. His needed education includes getting to know his own needs and wants--to recognize what's really going on not just with his health, but with his company.
Maya needs to learn that she needs to slow down, "waste time" in what she thinks of as useless chitchat, to build the connections she needs to get anyone to have the confidence in her to pay attention to her ideas.
It was harder for me to warm up to Maya and Connor than to Hailey and Finian in the previous book, but I'm glad I did. Hailey and Finian had "oldest sibling" issues that were more familiar to me. Maya and Connor are very different, and for me, less immediately appealing and accessible. It was worth giving them the time, though, because as their story and their personalities played out, I grew to like them quite a bit, and they have a really entertaining romance.
Recommended.

Love and Dreams: A Billionaire Tycoon Sweet Contemporary Romance The Summer Sisters Tame the Billionaires Series, Book 2 By: Jean Oram Narrated by Vanessa Moyen
How can Maya raise her share of the money to save their home on the island? Rent it to a tired, delirious billionaire who may be able to give her a job! Connor is in need of some rest and relaxation. Not because he wants to take off from work, but his doctor has told him, he is the prime candidate for a stress related heart attack or stroke! He finds himself at Trixie Hollow, unable to keep his eyes open, in the worst shape a man can be. Maya is his assistant for the next 2 weeks, but what she finds out will change both their lives. I loved this book. Jean Oram has done it again! She has given us Connor, a man with huge amibition that has reached his limit. He has to learn to slow down and take care of himself. He has met his match with the fully loaded Maya.Their connection is strong and not just sexually. But is there enough to keep them going? And will business get in the way of pleasure? Give this gem a listen to. You will fall in love with Connor and Maya as well as Trixie Hollow.
Vanessa Moyen continues the narration of the series with her talents. She has a great pace and flows right into the personalities of the characters. I enjoyed her performance.
I listened to the audio version of this book. This book had a wonderful set up. Oram gave us a business mogul who is so burned out that he needs to ditch all business connection and rest. His assistant sets him up with someplace perfect...somewhat. She sends him to a cottage owned by Maya and her sisters. It is on an island. Very isolated where things like internet and cell coverage can be a challenge. The cottage isn't the resort he was expecting (try not to hit the loose board in the steps!). Maya is totally in awe of Connor and his business prowess. She's expecting to act as his business assistant and hopes to learn from him. Unfortunately, Connor won't even discuss business. He eventually just hands everything over to her and basically shuts his eyes to everything. Maya is overwhelmed at first, but then gets concerned when a business deal of Connor's doesn't seem up to snuff. Through everything, there is the attraction between them, which makes it even more irritating for Maya when he won't even listen to her concerns. Can business and love meld a relationship, or are they doomed from the beginning? The narration by Vanessa Moyen was very good.
A heartwarming, funny and intriguing storyline. The characters were unique, strong, and well developed. It is continuation of a series so some characters make a cameo continuing their stories, but it definitely can be read as a standalone. This thoughtful and heartfelt story had me glued page after page feeling every emotion and laughing along. Maya is trying to save the family cottage and find a job using the degree she graduated at the top of her class. She decides to rent out the cotttage to a millionaire in need of rest. Conner the King of Toronto is renting cottage to savalvage the mess he has made of his life where his health and keeping his assistant is at risk if he doesn't get much needed rest. The two have a strong connection and desire for the other in more than just a sexual way that this amazing story is built on. This romantic story had laughter, angst, challenges and twists along the way, while Connor learns to relax and Maya learns how to connect with people. A must read I look forward to more with Maya the other two sisters.
Audio review This is a great continuation to book 1. Book 2 will grab your heart with the story and the heroine and hero . Jean knows how to grab your heart and not let go Hero is Connor. Heroine is Maya. Maya is next to try to save the family cottage on the island. She’s the feisty one you meet in book 1. She lives in Toronto and her red hair matches her personality. What Maya thinks will bring in money is to rent the cottage . Maya rents the cottage out to Connor Mackenzie who is well known in Toronto business Connor needs some relax time He sees the cottage and knows it’s perfect . Only Connors doctor and his PA knows what’s really going on with hi,. He needs to relax to give his heart a rest . Connor is used to getting his own way which he thinks Maya will do Boy was he wrong . Once these two get together sparks fly .. they both have a quick whit and sarcasm. Maya needs to convince Connor of an idea she has that might save them both. Grab it and see what it is Vanessa did a fantastic work on this story. He voice is strong smooth and clear. She did all the parts perfectly
Why it’s important to leave the rat race to the rats. Apparently, Maya and I have a lot in common. From snap decisions often based on gut instincts to a deep and abiding confusion over why connecting with people is so necessary, I loved Maya every step of the way. Connor left me baffled a lot of the time. I couldn’t grasp how he could be so clueless as to ignore all the warning signs his body was sending. And he frustrated the daylights out of me when he refused to listen to Maya’s concerns about his latest deal. I adored where this book got to in the end, but some of the steps it took getting there left me gnashing my teeth. I also enjoyed getting the chance to see the other Summer sisters from Maya’s perspective after having seen Hailey’s in the previous book. I received a complimentary copy of this audio from the author.
This is book two of a series and the story itself stands alone quite nicely. However, if one had already enjoyed book one, some of the background issues, such as the potential loss to back taxes of the family island with its century-plus old cottage, are much more fully fleshed. In the first tale we met the eldest sister, a photographer; this sister has an honors business degree and is looking to get into the investment world. I enjoyed learning about the critical importance of networking and research as deceptions were discovered and the island worked its magic. Narrator Vanessa Moyen brings each of the characters to life with her excellent phrasing and vocalizations.
3.5 stars. I would have given the rating a higher rating EXCEPT for the time frame. If the author spread this out over 6 months to a year. ....yeah it would be believable. But all of this in what 1-2 months maybe? Medical issues. Business issues. Government issues.........
Fav quote My mom told me to make connections with people. Network the old-fashioned way. You understand how it is. Fine for a man, but not for a woman......He felt for her, but her mother was right. Most new grads thought good grades made it a given that they would start at a six-figure salary, with three weeks paid holidays. And most felt they were worth it....."
I really enjoyed this book. Maya was strong, ambitious, knew what she wanted and went after it. Connor was well and truly burnt out, and I think he was really well written taking that into account. From about the halfway mark, I couldn't put the book down. The action took a little while to kick off, but once it did, I couldn't stop. The one thing that frustrated me a bit was that Connor didn't want to tell Maya about his health problems because it would call his manliness into question, but if he'd put his dignity aside for five minutes, they could have resolved so many things. Despite the communication issues, I'd highly recommend Falling for the Boss.
Maya and Conner’s story was wonderful. It was sweet, heartwarming and fun. The banter between the two had me laughing. Maya and Conner are so much a like that they are continuously challenging each other. What starts of as just a business relationship blossoms and grows into respect and Love. Through their journey they both learn to slow down and enjoy the beauty of life. Conner gets in touch with his inner self and Maya learns how to connect with people. I enjoyed their story and look forward to the next book. (4.5⭐️)
Maya has a business degree and if she can land a job with Connor and his company that would help save the cottage, needing to pay back taxes. He comes to the vacation cottage for some needed R&R, attraction is there. They both need to learn how to communicate with others, not just all work. This is book two, so we have some of the characters from the series, it can be read alone. It is about family and love makes an enjoyable story to read.
A wonderful continuation of the story of the Summer sisters and then trying to save their family summer home. Maya went to business school, studied hard, made good grades and graduated top of her class. But getting a job is hard because she doesn't have any work experience. Conner needs time off because he has run himself ragged. He takes two weeks off at Trixie Hallow and gets a whole lot more.
This is a fun sweet read. I enjoyed this story and being back in the Summer Sister’s world. Connor and Maya are such interesting characters – I found them to be relatable, captivating and interesting. Maya is a spit fire and fun to read. I enjoyed both the romance, the underlying subplot and the Summer family interactions. This is a lite, sweet read, that will cleanse your pallet and leaving you smiling in the end.
This is the second book in the Summer Sisters series and it continues the tradition with Maya finding her other half. Connor needs a break from his fast paced life and destiny lead him to Maya. The characters in this series are great and the story is fun and keeps you wanting more. It is great to visit the Summer sisters and I look forward to the next book in the series.
Broken man finds woman that makes him want to fix himself for. That's a cute story and didn't need anything else. Her being a complete goober when it comes to talking to people was a good move. But I don't get the king thing. A king would know that even though the main ride is closed that there is still a pretty good theme park available.
I enjoyed this book very much. I can relate very well with Maya and Connor (although we're nothing alike) and her quirky family. They are both strong, smart, caring and well written with a strong story to make this an interesting book that made me laugh and kept me turning the page.
I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys stories that are laugh out loud funny, steamy, and oh so romantic, with strong characters both male and female, and a happily ever after.
This book had a few twists to it I wasn't expecting.Itwas great storyline and points out, ruining your health for money isn't worth it. I would highly recommend it for anyonte.
I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and the characters. Jean did an excellent job of fleshing out the protagonists and making them seem like real people. I’m looking forward to reading the next Summer sister’s HEA.
I love Jean Orman's books and this one did not disappoint me. There was just enough sass in there to keep me reading and wanting more. You won't go wrong by picking any of Jean's books up.
This book gets you to look inside the life of a woman who knows what she wants in life and gets everything she ever wanted. Connor is the icing on the cake. Love couldn't happen between a better couple than Maya and Connor.
I enjoy Oram's writing but thought the story was a little unbelievable. For that reason, I had trouble identifying with the characters (sisters all beautiful, movie star guy so accessible, etc). Enjoyable if you want a fantasy type of romance.
