Detective Skylar Reid has weathered all manner of storms in the small, coastal town of Carrabelle, Florida but this one may be her last. When the dead body of a local lawyer is found near his vehicle, it looks like a simple case of a hit and run, but is it? As Baker and Reid try to unravel the mystery, the questions will lead them on a journey into the heart of danger. From the white sands of Franklin County to the glitz of Miami, will they uncover the truth before it's too late? This is the fourth book in the Coastal Suspense series, providing mystery, suspense and drama with the gorgeous backdrop of the Forgotten Coast of Florida.
Lots of stereotype baggage, but still worth reading
The main plot is good, but the overall book loses more stars because of too much stereotype.
The protagonist always has a lot of baggage. We're not talking about a couple of suitcases. The baggage of both parents being losers baggage, The baggage of a child and true love dying. Meaning they must live a promiscuous lifestyle and heavy drinking. Yawn 🥱 The being loner baggage.
There is more stereotype baggage. Living on a boat has become a stereotype. I think it's three series I'm reading where the protagonist lives on a boat. But the truth is most series these days have a lot of stereotyped protagonists. Originality isn't typical, so it seems. Thus far, the main plots in 'The Coastal Suspense' series have kept it a series to continue worth reading.
Dead Drop is the latest installment in The Coastal Suspense Series. It is, in fact, another chapter in the reinvention of Detective Skylar Reid. Bad guys are bad guys regardless of their geographical location, but nuances in locale can make a big difference. In the first 3 books Skylar, while being aware of the difference, did not heed the message. She did in this one and it was an eye opener. This is a great series and I can hardly wait to see what Watts has in store for this character.
I really liked this book and the others in the series as well. Skylar Reid is a little unique, as she relates to protagonists in similar books, because she's not infallible. She makes mistakes and bad life choices....but what a character.
Dead drop flowed a little smoother than the previous books with only a few confusing sentences or extra words. The plot was good and the "whodunit" surprised me. Interested to see how Skylar's relationship with Ben is in the next book.
Good book. A bit harder to keep my interest as the last 2, #2 and #3, but pretty good. I will be reading #5 next which will be the last one in this series. Will be looking for more recommendations soon after this next one. Enjoy!
I have read all four in this series so far. Each one has kept me guessing until the end. I love the plot and the main characters Skylar and Harvey. They are opposites which makes them great partners.
Little confused in this book - seems in book 3 her truck rolled over and caught fire , then book 4 she is driving around in the truck , what ? Other than some details like that pretty good read
This is a very excellent book a lot of guessing who did it. Love this series wish there would be more of them . Sorry to hear that you are not going to be doing this series again.
