Geoff Johns originally hails from Detroit, Michigan. He attended Michigan State University, where he earned a degree in Media Arts and Film. He moved to Los Angeles in the late 1990s in search of work within the film industry. Through perseverance, Geoff ended up as the assistant to Richard Donner, working on Conspiracy Theory and Lethal Weapon 4. His first comics assignments led to a critically acclaimed five-year run on the The Flash. Since then, he has quickly become one of the most popular and prolific comics writers today, working on such titles including a highly successful re-imagining of Green Lantern, Action Comics (co-written with Richard Donner), Teen Titans, Justice Society of America, Infinite Crisis and the experimental breakout hit series 52 for DC with Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka and Mark Waid. The origin of Marionette & Mime revealed!

This is the comic book issue #6 of the event “Doomsday Clock” that it will be a maxiseries of 12 issues.

Creative Team:

Writer: Geoff Johns

Illustrator: Gary Frank

STRINGS & SILENCE

In this sixth issue, you’ll learn finally the origin of Marionette and Mime! And you won’t be disappointed!

Definitely, Geoff Johns is still demonstrating that he’ll do his homework to develop a smart sequel to Watchmen up to the expectations (and I am a huge fan of Alan Moore, so my expectations were high, and I have been loving this miniseries so far!).

While you read the origin of your favorite murdering clowns from the Watchmen dimension…

…the story continues in the main Earth, where The Joker is in a really good mood…

…and how he wouldn’t be?

If he got Batman, and now the Dark Knight is beaten, tied, drugged!

Meanwhile, several villains have been summoned by none other than The Riddler to decide what they should do in the middle of the “Supermen Theory” world crisis.

Marionette is excited seeing so much villains, and why she shouldn’t? If you take in account that in the Watchmen dimension lacks of a fair availability of super-villains in comparison to the existent heroes over there.

An unvited guest to the villains’ reunion will prove that they should thank their luck that the super-heroes of main Earth are too soft while dealing with them, but if someone appears showing drastic measures…

…the super-villains would be falling like flies!

We're half way through this now and my enjoyment of it is starting to wane a bit. I need more answers to what's going on. The back story is fine, but I feel like I need context. Like why is the Riddler in his classic look? Choice by Gary Frank or something that happened somewhere else?

Also betting Batman has some master plan

To truly laugh, You must be able to take your pain, and play with it

This issue focuses on the Clown Prince’s/Princess of Crime both in Watchmen and DC Universe. I’m glad they finally flesh out the origins of Marionette and Mime making them not just Watchmen’s version of Joker and Harley (or two Harley) but actually had a different personality to Joker yet also kinda similar I guess….

We also get to see what’s happening in the villain’s perspectives (mostly earth base villain). The Riddler is basically trying to build a super villain league maybe even a new version of Legion of Doom like the 70’s superhero comics.
description

It also shows in this issue that most of the superheroes are actually missing/hiding/not on earth for some reason and everybody is pinning down Typhoon (Flash villain) because of the Superman Theory. Maybe because his blue? Like it’s easy for Dr. Manhattan to blend in the DC Universe. He can just pretend to be some random bad guy with blue glowing skin like Typhoon.

THEN THE COMEDIAN SHOWS UP, Watchmen’s version of joker’s trust for violence… The other clown prince.

Whoa, this issue came out of nowhere and really impressed me. This might be my favorite issue so far.

Mime and Marionette get their backstory in this one. I was really impressed with it as I actually got some emotion from their backgrounds. Up until now I found them a little over the top and too "joker" style but here I found out why and when they became who they were and it made sense. Far more realistic way of becoming killers in this world than the comic world. Also, the plot moves forward as we have some major characters pushing the narrative, mostly our best friend the Comedian doing his murdering thing. I like the contrast between the villains in the DC Universe and Watchmen and how much more brutal and effective the killing is from the Watchmen characters. Overall, a easy 4.5 out of 5.

Just as the series was turning south, this delightful issue pops up to the rescue. There’s a nice bit of backstory about Marionette and The Mime, as well as some amusing interactions with the Joker.

This was awesome. A back story of the mime and marionette. Cool story telling and a great arc here. You can see the differences between the Dc and watchmen characters however its been blended extremely well here. Loved this issue.

Doomsday Clock #6 by itself is far from being a disappointment. It delivers. It's good. Both the DC mainstays and the Watchmen characters preserve the tones of their respective universes, and the interplay between them have been very interesting and entertaining.

I just wish that the series is published monthly.

Uhh, did I miss an issue or three? Cripes, this one was particularly confusing and I'm worried that prolonged delays means that this story will be tied to other titles as a result. There were entire sections where I had no idea what characters were referring to. That sucks. Also the little reports, files, and ephemera they tack on the end are cute and all, but I need those plot elements when I'm reading the book... Not some deleted scene/director's cut gimmick.

Cry me a river. Kind of an origin story for a couple of these characters. Still not sure how this all ties together. But in the end it will all become clear....won't it?

Wow, DC hasn't been my favorite event so far, but I still like it though. But this issue is the best so far, we learn the story of Marionette and Mime, Joker poisoned Batman with a toxine so he is unconscious in this issue, also, The Comedian will show up to at the reunion of the Black Adam followers (The court of owls, The Riddler, Mr. Freeze followers and some others).

Really good character development for Marionette and Mime, but I wish the story would just fucking advance. I mean there's only 6 more issues, so when is Dr. Manhattan gonna show up? Doesn't seem like enough issues are left to properly wrap up the story.

Unlike #5, this comic delivers. It's backstory is wonderful and tragic. The Joker is great. Most things make sense. It stays very localized on one plot which is why I think this book FAR outshines the last issue.

Maybe not the best one so far, but we learn a lot about the origin of those two news heroes/villain/not so sure yet. Like the others, really a series driven by it's storyline which is rich and deep!

4/5 stars.

This was one of the better issues in this spark forsaken series, as it focuses on two of the more interesting characters in the series, and we get to learn they're backstory.

This one slipped a little for me. Make no mistake, it's still amazing. Anything with art this good is gonna be good. Art is probably the single most important part of comic books (there I said it). But the thing is, good writing can carry bad art; but bad writing can't carry good art.

I was a little confused on more than a couple occasions with which panels connected to what and when and who was narrating and... at the end of the day I got the gist of it. But I believe this comic should have taken its time a bit more like issue 4 did. That one was 30 freaking pages. This one could have drawn out some stuff and eased out any of the confusion.

But I digress. This is just nitpicking at what is already an entertaining issue. I wasn't super into the Marionette and Mime based on their story. But their love is what's managing my interest in them. That bizarre and committed passion between the two is unique and sets them apart from someone like the Joker and Quinn (who are clearly in a one sided relationship).

Anyway, good issue. Bit of a slip. Still cool seeing Joker and Comedian share a story. That's just surreal.

Oh wow!
We're already halfway through this, and now I have more questions then ever. I NEED ANSWERS!!

This issues did show us a little background of Marionette and Mime (or Erika and Marcos) and it was really nice to see where they come from and what made them who they are.
I also particularly enjoyed when The Comedian was like "Surprise Motherfuckers!" and went on a killing spree. Aaaah, that really warms my heart to see.

Other than that I really really really did NOT enjoy seeing Batman wheeled around by The Joker, like dude! What are you even planning to do with him??

Also, Where the heck is Dr. Manhattan???????

Anyways, I CANNOT wait for the next issue because I can't have those precious answers fast enough!

Another issue largely centered around a singular charcter (or pair, in this case), and as in the previous issue, it serves the serirs well by giving the world and themes a bit more texture.

The world state of the DC universe in this still seems a bit clunky, and the ending line lands way off the mark of what they actually accomplished thematically, but the series is at least firmly intriguing enough to make me want to keep going.

This is an incredible piece of storytelling. With all that's going on it's a marvel how Geoff Johns succeeds at both giving us a colourful backstory of Mime and his partner (forget her name... The puppet-lady?) and progressing the wacky convention of wannabe villains. Can't wait to glimpse Rorschach in Arkham. Brilliant series. Kudos!

Exploramos en este número la historia de origen de Mimo y Marioneta, los planes de la nueva Liga de la Villanía y aprendemos un poco más sobre los planes del Departamente de Asuntos Metahumanos

I think the story is good as it goes into some origin stories of some new characters and we get to see all of the villains grouped together. Nothing really jumped out at me as fantastic though. I want to see more of the core characters and hope they jump back into that in the next story. Still very well done though and a good series as Watchmen and Justice League are so strong.

Another excellent chapter.
I know there's some readers afraid of this kind of new limited series after Watchmen, but I think we are in front of another great maxi-saga.
I really like the story. And Geoff Johns is developing one of his best masterworks.
