Yet another children's book with gender representation issues! There are seven pages of animals. The whale, crab, and octopus are all identified as male. The others are not given a gender. That's it! No lady animals at all!

You might think I'm kidding about this, but I am not. How hard is it to look at the book, notice all the animals are male, and make, say, the crab a female crab? HOW HARD IS IT, CHILDREN'S BOOK PUBLISHERS? Do I have to take a Sharpie to every single book I read to my baby?

very squishy! would have benefited from a stronger showing and character development of the turtle.

This is one of my baby’s favorites. Big win-over factor = crinkly sounds 👂 But that’s not all folks! The material is water-safe!! I just wring it out like a dish towel after bath time. The kinetic enjoyment doesn’t end there, though 👋 Every Page has a different texture for baby to touch such as: ribbons, stitching, rubber spots, cloth flaps, felt, & textile tubing for a 3D effect.
Needless to say, it’s an awesome book. Definitely worth the purchase which was just around the same price of a board book. Speaking of, my purchase of this little nugget was on a voting day here in OKC. Full Circle Bookstore offered customers 15% off one book if they wore their “I voted” sticker. Heck yeah I took advantage of that!!

This title is such a misnomer. First of all, aside from the cover, Squishy Turtle is utterly absent from this so-called story. As for the "and Friends" bit -- don't get me started! This entire story seems to be about predator/prey relationships among species in ocean ecologies; example: "The ocean floor is deep and dark / it's where you'll find this HUNGRY SHARK."

I will say this though: I love the textures of these pages. They feel good on the gums.

reading is — like — tactile

great first book for a baby aged around 2 to 3 months old
- being cloth it is light which allows baby to easily hold it up and not get hurt when she drops it on her face
- the first page makes a great crinkly sound, better than its competition, which really got my baby motivated to reach for this book
- the words do rhyme (which my baby liked) and the other pages are textured (which never interested my baby as much as the cover though)

Cloth books are a great way for babies to experience and explore how books work. This series offers a tactical experience too

perfect for luxmi at this point since she likes chewing on books and pointing at things. this has velcro which she's really into and makes lots of crinkly noises. she always points to the big blue whale. good fun. thanks lois!

It's got a turtle on the cover. The turtle is squishy. Do you need to know anything else? My kids all loved this book. Right now my 2yo likes pointing to the different animals and staring at my lips while I say their names.
