Els Soviets

The Soviets were a key factor for the triumph of the russian revolution in 1917, but they were born long before. So, what exactly were these bodies that we can translate as council or meetings but which today would most likely be called assemblies? In this brief essay, we approach this particular organizational structure of the Russian working class. Andreu Nin, one of the most important Catalan Marxist intellectuals of the 20th century and who lived in Russia, he knew first hand the essence and functioning of the Soviets and left us with a key document to know and understand the history, singularities and evolution over the years, from before the revolution until after it.
For this edition, we have added to the book texts by Vladimir I. Lenin and Inessa Armand who also devoted time and effort to tell the world the project of the Soviets with the intention of contributing to the liberation of the exploited masses from all over the world. Their texts, as leaders of the revolution, complement Nin's book by providing a proper Russian vision in the eye of the hurricane, not only in a tone of protagonists but as organizers and catalysts of the revolutionary push of the Russian proletariat.

About the author

Andreu Nin (el Vendrell, Baix Penedès, 1892 - Alcalá de Henares, 1937). Polític, assagista i traductor. Estudia Magisteri a Tarragona i Barcelona i quan acaba els estudis exerceix com a docent a l'Escola Horaciana i a l'Ateneu Enciclopèdic Popular. La seva activitat política comença a partir del 1911, quan entra a la Unió Federal Nacionalista Republicana. L'any 1913 entra a la Federació Socialista Catalana i durant aquesta època col·labora en diaris i publicacions diversos com El Baix Penedès, La Justicia Social, El Poble Català o La Publicidad. El 1919 s'afilia a la CNT i el 1921 participa en el primer congrés de la Internacional Sindical Roja que se celebra a Moscou, on s'estableix fins al 1930. Allà participa activament de la vida política soviètica i es dedica a l'estudi dels clàssics russos. El 1926 s'adhereix a l'Oposició Internacional d'Esquerra encapçalada per Trotski i, per aquest motiu, el 1930 és expulsat de l'URSS i torna a Barcelona, on organitza l'Esquerra Comunista, secció espanyola de l'Oposició Internacional d'Esquerra trotskista. El 1935 participa en la constitució del Partit Obrer d'Unificació Marxista i quan comença la Guerra Civil es converteix en conseller de Justícia de la Generalitat. El 16 de juny del 1937 és detingut i assassinat per la policia secreta soviètica. És autor de títols com Les dictadures dels nostres dies (1930), Els moviments d'emancipació nacional (1935), El proletariado español ante la revolución (1931), Los Soviets: su origen, desarrollo y funciones (1932), Manchuria y el imperialismo (1932) o Las organizaciones obreras internacionales (1933), entre d'altres. A banda dels seus textos polítics, Andreu Nin va realitzar una important tasca com a traductor literari del rus d'autors com Bogdànov, Dostoievski, Pilniak, Txekhov o Tolstoi, entre d'altres. També traslladà al català i al castellà textos de Trotski i de Lenin.

El contingut és excel·lent, però l'edició, a més d'algun error ortogràfic, compta amb pocs aclariments a peu de pàgina, perdent així l'oportunitat de contextualitzar un conjunt de textos força antics i que, en conseqüència, estan plens de conceptes i noms propis d'una altra època.
