Extremely helpful advice and practical tips for training a deaf dog. Not particularly well written, but a well crafted sentence doesn’t help me teach Ezra to sit and stay, so who cares.
I liked this book and learned several important things from it - first the whole pack leader concept that has been being touted for what seems like my entire life. How good to know that I don't have to put my dogs on their back and growl in their face, nor otherwise establish myself as their alpha - I have always felt that this was weird and couldn't imagine how it wouldn't be horribly confusing for a dog. I also appreciated learning more about positive reinforcement training and though I already use far more rewards and "good dog"s! than I do "NO!"s I am committed to removing that word/sign from my vocabulary.
YES!!!! A fantastic book for anyone with a deaf dog. As a dog trainer I've trained a few so I read this to see if it was worth recommending to owners in the future. Clear and concise. It explains how to properly use positive training techniques to best effect.
I didn’t find the book offered that much info for deaf dogs specifically. I am already really informed on positive training, so those aspects didn’t speak to me. However, this would be great for an inexperienced owner who gets any dog (deaf or hearing).
Good start to training a deaf dog. Lays the basic foundation but was very short and to the point. May have served better as a series of online articles rather than a book.
