As if surviving the end of the world, and the theft of my powers wasn’t enough on their own, a heaping pile of Ogre and a side of human raiders has been added to my plate while trying to feed our starving caravan.
The worst of what I face though is far harder to admit. My black magic takes it’s pound of flesh every time I use it, and each time the cost climbs. And yet, it calls to me, seducing me, all the while consuming little pieces of my soul. It’s a right bastard like that.
I don’t know how much longer I can deny its strength, because in this world strength is safety, and safety is all I can offer those around me. May the gods have mercy on me, because I have it in me to deny the magic that blackens my blood any longer….
A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I was born into a family of Star Wars nuts. I have a lot of siblings (somewhere I lost count but I think there was more than could be numbered on one hand) and being one of the young padawans I was subjected to Star Wars marathons, on a regular basis. If you've read any of my books you'll see there is often a reference to said movies as a small homage to my upbringing. May the force be with you and all that jazz.
I started writing when I realized I didn't want to grow up not believing in magic, or not believing in creatures everyone else said didn't exist. That being said, I have never seen a fairy, unicorn or dragon. I had a neighbour who swore they fed the leprechauns in their garden, but I never caught the little buggers no matter how long I lay in wait. (And consequently had to help the neighbours plant new flowers to replace those I killed waiting for the leprechauns to show their faces.)
Along the way, I found my husband who is the rock that keeps me from floating away into my dreams, and we have a little boy who is the centre of our world. Living on a farm keeps us busy (as if the writing wasn't enough) and I have more than my share of stories about wrestling with cows, helping birth calves and ending up in the creek during the process, falling in the mud (we'll call it mud but we all know that on a farm, mud is rarely mud) and chasing escaped livestock in the hopes the four legged convicts don't make it to the highway.
I've taken up archery, and the goal is to move into horseback archery in time (you know, when I can hit the target on a consistent basis) and when no one is looking, I love to bake (this doesn't happen often as it's hard to keep the sweet treats in stock with two boys in the house.)
As to what's coming next for me? More stories (since those never stop inside my head, I might as well share them with all of you!) and more adventures. Pretty much, when the fancy strikes, I'll jump on it. Leap before you look I'm sure that motto was created for me.
Or was that . . . think big and dream bigger, ready, set, pull the trigger . . . yeah. That one is a good one too. But only if you have a gun. And are hunting elephants. Which is not cool because of so many reasons. Let's stick with the first one with an addendum.
Leap before you look and let your dreams carry you on their wings. And that, my friends, is me in a nutshell.
Quick review - I really enjoyed it and here is the BUT that kept me from loving it...
But, I felt the telling got bogged down with the "internal witch". There was a bit too much internal evil magic dialog. That does look like it might be balancing out with the spirit but we will see.
My other big BUT, what the heck is going on with Alex. On one hand he's an alpha of his mini pack, then how does he allow his pack mate's actions toward Pamela. Even after she tells him what is going on, he seems surprised and still trusts the obvious offender. If you can smell someone across a vast distance (not to mention being surrounded by shifters) then you can smell blood that suddenly pops up...I'm just saying.
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed reading Caravan Witch, I guess I was disappointed in the big reunion and actions that followed and wished that more of the conflict was not internally created.
First, this book ends with a cliffhanger and I really dislike them. Second, there’s all the markings of a love triangle in the works - another pet peeve. Lastly, the book seemed to drag. Sometimes, it felt longer than the endless journey the caravan is taking. Plus, two books in and I dislike most of the side characters. That’s not good. I’ll likely read the next one because I want to see if she ever hooks back up with Rylee so we can find out what happened to Rylee and Liam.
Pamela is back! But here comes more trouble! It comes in the form of a familiar friend she thought she'd lost and a little surprise to boot. Pamela is still bound because of four envious elementals, but the crack in one of her bracelets is giving her some power that she didn't have when originally bound. The dark magic inside her still whispers to her in the voice of her mother, but Pamela continues to fight. Thankfully she's not alone and has her two familiars Oka and Mac to help keep her balanced. She's going to need more to battle what is coming though. The caravan needs food and the strange symbol she keeps seeing marks all of the land and there is nothing to be found. Add in that Stefan is riding around with his gang and looking well fed. What's going on?! With a chance encounter Pamela and her friends will discover who is behind it all and the consequences to come. Caravan Witch Shannon Mayer is AWESOME!!!! I loved this book! The ups! The downs! The surprises! The stressful moments! The battles! I loved it all!! Shannon Mayer truly brings it with this book and it kept me engaged from beginning to end. I'm loving the development of the characters and how Pamela is such a fighter. She carries the guilt of what happened to a friend deeply but I love that she just uses it as a reminder. She doesn't become bogged down in what more she could have done. I like that she has help in more ways than one. I love the development of her relationship with Mac, her familiar. Not gonna lie, the romantic angle makes me positively giddy. Haha! The author absolutely gives us yet another character...or two to hate and boy do I love to hate one of them! I'm honestly ready for someone to have at this character already! This story flows beautifully from start to finish. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I will warn you of this...this book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. I literally howled because I want to know more! I NEED to know what happens next!! Haha! So prepare yourself but the story is fantastic and picks up where the first book left off. The characters are engaging, the storyline is great and has everything a reader could possibly want! If you read the first book and loved it grab this book! Dive in and clear your schedule because you won't want to put this book down even after it's done!
Shannon weaves another brilliant tale focusing on Pamela the gorgeous, canny and tenacious witch we met for the first time in the Rylee Adamson series. Pamela is now all grown up, the world is shattered and forming a new world were magic and supernaturals are out in the open and fighting to survive along with the humans. Alex is back, he has finally found his little Pammy but she is not his little Pammy anymore, she is a grown woman who has changed greatly.
Pamela struggles with Alex’s return to her, even though he was her first love she has moved on her heart is now with Mac, can there still be room for Alex in her life. Life is confusing and all consuming right now Pamela can’t take the time to think about her heart she has to keep everyone safe but especially the children so much weighs on her shoulders, so much danger is at every turn but Pamela fears the dangerous magic within her more than anything.
Caravan Witch was a gripping, heart wrenching tale from beginning to end with vivid, memorable characters readers will always remember.
I’m a glutton for punishment when it comes to Shannon’s books. I love her writing and her characters but she continues to hurt them and in the process hurt me. It’s a vicious cycle that I won’t ever stop. Pamela continues to fight with her dark magic and try to protect the caravan from all the dangers in the world. She tries her hardest and sometimes that’s just not enough. I can’t wait to find out what else is in store for the caravan.
It would be close to 100% love, if not for two small facts: Some disturbing love-triangle'ish stuff and it ends with a cliffhanger. Nobody wants those!
Nevertheless, so far it has been a very enjoyable series.
This book picks up right where Aimless Witch finishes. Alex and Pamela meet again after years apart. Both have changed in unbelievable ways, just like the world has. Each now have people who they are responsible for. In a post apocalyptic world where you have to keep moving to stay alive, can they survive together? Mayer develops her characters with depth and flaws that make them seem real and relevant. Can’t wait until book 3!
Disappointingly terrible. There was obviously not enough plot so she kept adding padding and, desperately, more battles which padded it out. I really like Shannon Mayer's books like the Rylee series, Elementals and Forty Proof series. However, ther are some which are downright awful This series, along with the Desert Borne, suffer the same problems - not enough plot to fill out the target number of books. Thus, like so many aaction films today, stick in loads of fights and leave the tiny bits of plot in between them. It doesn't allow plot or character development and just becomes very boring.
I love Pamela and I was very excited to see her getting her own series. But I'm not loving it. The fact is it was terrific right up until Mac was introduced. I just don't like him. I don't like that he's male. I don't like that he's a shifter that's a familiar. And I really don't like him as a love interest. Because I've invested a hell of a lot of time in this series and my OTP is Alex/Pam. To see her waver from that irritates me. I put up with the SPOILER FOR RYLEE ADAMSON I just can't bring myself to like Mac.
And to see that awkward reunion makes me so fkn angry. It was unnecessary. Why can't she have some happiness? Why can't I have some happiness? Why the hell didn't they see each other and hug each other? Even if nothing else? They're supposed to be best friends and they don't even give each other the time of day. Plus she compels him? WTF? All the whinging about being bad and that's what she has no issues with?
I hate Jasmine. And she stabs Pam? WTF? Why can't Alex smell the blood? It doesn't even make sense. And why the hell did no one kill her when she did? Since when don't they? I just want to kill off Mac and Jasmine and be done with it.
...Yeah I'm still reading the next two. I need to know what happens.
Ok first off if you have read Shannon Mayer’s Rylee Adamson series you may feel like you have been there by Pamela’s side through it all, we got to see her grow up in that series but you don’t need to read the Rylee books to enjoy the Questing Witch series. Pamela has grown into a powerful woman, one who takes no crap from anyone and will give her all to protect those she promised to keep safe. In Caravan Witch Pamela is reunited with a very close long lost friend and it’s an amazing reunion but they are not the kids they once were and have to now figure out what this new world means for them and their friendship, no one has survived and been unchanged by the Rending. On top of this new and exciting reunion the caravan is facing off will a cruel man and his army who seeks to do nothing more than to kill the people Pamela has sworn to protect, throw in an anonymous and powerful hidden player and Pamela has an uphill battle to fight, and she’s not going to go down without giving it everything she has! I was so hooked into this story I didn’t even notice the world around me, now I am excitedly anticipating the release of Maze Witch to see what happens with Pamela and her caravan and I can hardly wait!!!!
Wow! This is another fantastic addition to my library. Caravan Witch jumps right in where we left off in Aimless Witch. It is so captivating. It was hard to put this book down. There's a comfort of once again seeing some characters that we know and love. Yet they are so changed. Along with the rest of the world. So there is an excitement in learning and discovering more about them and what's to come. I love that the author has decided to give us more of these characters. There is also a mystery to think on as we follow along on this new leg of their journey. And if you've ready any Shannon Mayer books, you know that she reigns supreme in giving us some characters that we love to hate. As well as those we just plain love. There are also some little mentions of characters from her other stories. Which are always fun to come across. I can hardly wait for the next installment of the series.
When it comes to Shannon Mayer I just can't get enough. The first series I read by her was Rylee's and I've been hooked ever since. Caravan witch is essentially a continuation of the series that got me hooked.
True to her books, you never know what twist will come out next. Pam has already had to overcome and fight for not only herself and Oka but now for Max and her caravan as well. Now she also has to prove that she's not the kid she once was to her first love. I think I may have giggled like a little girl when Alex reappeared. He was always one of my favorites! ♡ Oka the sassy cat is as loveable as always and Max is rock solid for Pam as always... Even with Alex joining the picture.
Without giving away too much I'll just say be prepared to want to scream. Hello cliffhanger! I swear Shannom cackles when she writes a book ending knowing exactly how crazy it's going to drive her readers. You won't be able to get enough! Absolutely cannot wait for the next installment.
Caravan Witch is the book we have all been waiting for! Ever since Pam and Alex broke the veil between the demons and the world, I have been impatiently waiting for them to finally re-connect. The world is sundered, supernaturals are no longer a secret and now humans and supes alike are fighting for their very existence. The story continues 3 years after Pam has parted ways with her family, presumably to punish herself and to avoid facing Riley after she and Alex broke the veil, the only thing between our world and the 7 levels of hell that are now unleashed upon the world. Pamela must face trial after trial trying to keep her new family alive as their caravan tries to find sanctuary. This book is a very face paced action/fantasy book with a little bit of love and romance mixed in. Lots of supernaturals, snarky witch familiars, trolls and monsters, oh my! I absolutely loved it and I hope you do to.
Caravan Witch begins with the bang of the ending of the first book in the Questing Witch series - Pam and Alex are reunited. And you'd think things would just pick up where they left off. No, no they don't. There are all kinds of changes in the newly broken world, and these two have both changed. Finding common ground and a new relationship is a common theme in this book.
The story is good. Filled with action, twist you try and figure out, revelations and good old Shannon Mayer humor. You'll cheer for characters as they evolve, and curse a few that you just can't stand. There are happy moments, and moments that make you go hmmmm.
Overall, if you like a good Urban Fantasy, you'll like this book too. While it's book 2 in a series, don't feel like you have to read book 1 as I feel like this would be a good stand alone. But, having the backstory helps so feel free to read the whole Rylee series along with book one :)
***POSSIBLE SPOILERS*** Shannon Mayer can do no wrong when it comes to her writing!
The end of Aimless Witch, the first book in the Questing Witch series, tore out my heart leaving me desperate for more. Caravan Witch SHOVED it back in, leaving my feelings raw and exposed. After three years, Alex is back and slowly realizing the Pammy he remembers and loves is now a grown woman. Alex is not quite what Pam remembers either. He is no longer broken, caught between a man and a beast. He is now whole and stronger for it. AND Pam has been falling for another! Is this the beginning of a love triangle? Who will she choose? Will she ever get her full powers back? So many questions and not enough answers has me on the edge of my seat. My heart can't take it! Looking forward to the next book in the series!
Everyone loves Pammy....especially Alex.... This is the second book in the Questing Witch series. Book one brought me to the edge of my seat and nearly toppled me off at the end. This one left me breathless. Pamela protects her family fiercely and she considers the caravan her family. You dare to mess with her family then you are in a world of hurt. It doesn't matter weather you are ogre, zombie, witch or whatever she will come at you like a tornado and she will prevail. Shannon builds a world full of awesome characters that will draw you in and make you love them and never want to leave. Some characters you will love but some you will want to torture slowly and fiendishly and laugh your head off while doing it....LOL.... Shannon Mayer I love you and your magnificent mind..... Keep it up woman......
Jumping right into this book where the first left off, we are reintroduced to an “old” character from another series. And, I have to tell you, I missed him! He made a wonderful addition to an already great cast of characters. After the introduction, we were off and running with the plot to find food for the caravan, with another new character trying to sow seeds of discontent in the caravan against Pam. I loved this book more than the first one, and I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next. How will she get out of the mess she’s into at the end of this book? I also can’t wait until Pam fully gets her powers back, what happens with the newest “bad” buys, and what will happen next with the revelation from her father she hasn’t told Mac and Oka. Intrigued? Go read it now! Highly recommend! I was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.
Starting this book with friends we thought long lost, Alex finds Pamela, only to find out she's no longer the little girl he knew and fell in love with, but this incredibly strong and capable witch, taking care of a caravan. He's not alone now either, as he's also got people he's looking after. A young wolf-cub, who happens to have ties to this caravan herself, and a snarky, no good, conniving, insecure female adult wolf, who I'm praying gets put in her place soon! While Pam works through her issues with the darker side of her magic, and fights to get back the side that the elementals stole from her, we take a journey of hardship and trials that leave you hungry for more, and waiting to see where the next chapter of this book takes you. Can't wait for book 3!
I fall more in love with Pam with each line written. Her loyalty and love for the caravan is truly touching in a dark time. While she battles with her inner demons she finds a way to battle real demons for people that don't like or trust her. I cannot put in words how deeply this touched me. We should all strive to be more like Pam we can kick ass and take no prisoners while having love, compassion, and loyalty. Alex, oh my goodness, Alex. He has grown into an amazing alpha, maybe more? I'm still team Mac all the way. Every single character is developing beautifully in every way. I absolutely loved Caravan Witch, the world it's set in, and all of the characters. READ IT PEOPLE. And take notes.
Just when you think things can’t get anymore interesting and weird, Shannon makes you go nope, that’s a lot more weird!
*spoiler* First off, ALEX IS BACK!!!!! This makes my freaking day, week, hell my year! He and his little pack will be adding balance yet chaos to what’s already happening.
Pam and the Caravan are alley making their way across the lands. Problems arise but so far Pam has been able to keep things relatively in line. Attacks by breakers, supernaturals and the alike are normal right now. Pamela is battling her inner darkness, and can I just say, that beast needs to be slated already. I’m tired of it. She needs to leave Pam alone.
But what you don’t see is the battle that’s brewing.... things are about to get... real.
This book was slower than what I'm used to seeing from Shannon Mayer. The storyline was good, but instead of it being action from 1st pg. to last, it was a lot of "hurry up and wait". I have a feeling that it's gonna be the same in the next book, as well. At the end of this book, Pam is cut off from all 3 of her familiars. Pam shows a some namby pamby quali cities at times, which frustrates me, then she shows her touch as nails qualities, which I love. Overall, this series, so far, is not shaping up to be a favorite in the Rylee-verse. I said b4 Pam was my least favorite character in the Rylee books and she continues to be in these books. I will continue to read b/c I will always support Shannon Mayer, 1 of my top 5 favorite authors.
I was in a huge book slump. I didn’t read for two weeks, every time I did id read a page but nothing caught my attention. And then I got my hands on caravan witch!! As all of Shannon’s books do, this held my attention easily. The characters bring out so many emotions in you. Nostalgia with Alex, safety with Mac, RAGE with Jasmine, frustration with the elementals. Alex coming back was like seeing a long lost friend. The end of the book doesn’t leave you going WTF? But it does give you something to look forward to with promises of an action packed beginning of the next book. I can’t wait for maze witch.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
What a story, Pamela and familiars continue to protect the caravan from a variety of bad guys. The fast pace is all consuming. Alex is back, with friends, a young teen wolf, and a trouble making female. (There is a word for female dogs, and she is one.) The problems keep increasing, and the solutions seem to be almost worse than the dangers. In other words, a riveting read. There is so much to say, but I don’t want to do spoilers, so do yourself a favor and jump right in. You don’t have to have read Aimless Witch first, but it is wonderful too, so start at the beginning and enjoy. Can’t wait for the 3rd book.
"my name was Pamela. And I was trained by the very best ass kicker in the world. Time to lay down the law and show this pair of witches who they were really up against.". This quote shows Pamela's attitude perfectly and really helps to sum up this book.
As always Shannon Mayer has created a world and characters that you can't help but fall in love with or want to claw there eyes out, the new werewolf is definitely the latter. Aimless witch concluded with the arrival of a very familiar and much loved character and ow how it made my heart swell. "Pammy" that one word is all it took to guarantee I would love this book and the emotional rollercoaster that was sure to come with it.
Amazing read. I highly recommend you clear your calendar or phone in sick before you start reading because you won't want to stop.
I was over joyed to see Alex back on the scene. However Shannon Mayer never makes life easy for her characters. In fact life was so tough for Pamela, Alex and crew that I struggle at times to see how they can get out of things. The world has been crushed and supernaturals and humans travel around in caravans, wandering villages, searching for food, shelter and comfort. There appears to be seriously powerful beings on the hunt and Stefan, the human hunter and his band of evil followers make another appearance on the tail of Pam's crew, but this time they have power and ever growing numbers on their side. A fraught race to survive, there is never a dull moment in the life of Pamela.
This exciting and heart wrenching book had me on the edge of my seat and I was not emotionally prepared for it all that was happening.
I need to know what is going to happen to all of these characters. I have become attached to them and this incredible world Shannon has created.
There are a few that I hope die slowly and painfully so Shannon if you read this.. I am counting on you to help me out with this problem!
Seriously though it is so easy to become so entrenched in the story that I lose track of time and I never want it to end. Words are woven so perfectly by this very talented author, she is truly a gift to this genre!
Shannon Mayer is amazing as she is a gut wrenching twister of fates. As we rejoin Pamela’s story she’s reintroduced to an old friend and needless to say there are a whole new set of sparks flying. Pamela has grown so much in the last book and we find her taking on a new role to keep her caravan safe. Fighting against an unknown source of evil and an old foe, Pamela must remember everything her mentor taught her about magic and butt kicking skills to continue to fight on and keep her new family safe no matter the cost to her. I hope everyone enjoys the continuation of Pam’s story and I’m already looking forward to the next book!
