582 books783 followersOkay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore but I was born under a wandering star and have lived in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.
I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.
There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.
Thank you for checking out my stories!

Shay rules!
Shay 4 is another fun, fast read by Carr and Anderle. Avoiding spoilers, Shay does some exciting artifact recoveries, Peyton gets good at his hobby, a new antagonist emerges and a friend from another series pops in. I love where this is heading!

Once again, Shay is in the deep of it, as she races against time - and a pesky rival retrieval specialist - to claim the artifacts she needs, in order to investigate James's background.
But things are getting ever more complex in her life, as she tries to juggle her job; keeping Peyton safe; making sure that she and James stay on the same page; keeping her new friendships with the women she meets to socialise, separate from everything else; and keeping up with her new Parkour group, to deal with.
But trouble comes from a totally different angle, and she manages to stay alive, when Lily, the grey Elf, reappears suddenly into her life again!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, hence the five stars but, if I had been able to, I would have taken off half a star.
Shay and James have been slowly, but surely, building their relationship with each other and, at the end of the previous book, it had them taking that next step of intimacy.
Don't get me wrong. I become uncomfortable reading explicit sex scenes, so was happy to miss that.
I guess I'm old fashioned enough to believe that this kind of physical intimacy, is a private thing between lovers. But, I DID expect them to at least behave with a little more closeness, because of this.
Instead, we got barely any change, with both of them behaving as though they were purely business partners!
I understand that neither of them were used to being intimate, emotionally, but I did expect them to start exploring how each of them reacts to this big change in their lives, especially emotionally.
I expected them to let their guards down, even a little bit, with each other, and for them both to be a little more relaxed, too.
I hope that this will be shown more in the next book.
I guess it would be very hard for a stone-cold killer, as Shay used to be, to be more open emotionally and, with James never having had even friendships with the other orphans, I'd guess he wouldn't have a clue how to respond.
But I'd expected at least a little of this to be shown in this book, hence my disappointment .
But, as there ARE many more books to come, in the four series that intertwine each other, I guess I'll just keep on reading them, and discovering Shay and James as they adjust to each other!
According to my reading list, my next book goes back to TUMB, with book six: 'When Angels Cry'. So I'll finish this review, and start reading it - well, after I've slept awhile, anyway, as I've done my usual, and read into silly O'clock in the morning! Lol
So, I'll start reading the new book later on in the morning, and I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of it!

Good addition to series
This story progresses the series, but it was rambling in a lot of ways. A lot of this book is telling not showing as well. I was really disappointed with the introduction of the relationship between her and James well. It was an after thought or a footnote when it represented a huge change in their relationship. I have been looking forward to it for four books, and they're more like coworkers than anything else. There was no lead up to them actually being in a relationship. I still recommend! It has a lot of interesting trips and she obtains new foes. We get a lot of Peytons POV in this book, but still mostly in Shays . There is a government contractor she is competing with to try and find alien objects. They keep going back and forth. Peyton's brother has amped up his search to try to find him and see if he's still alive.
Spoilers
Telling not showing is a pet peeve of mine. Wasn't an issue in past books. When she goes to Australia, It shows her in a fight with 1 creature, But most of the battles and creatures were an off handed comment that we're told it happened. When they handled James's issue with the japanese Gang, It must have been a major undertaking, but we were told in and off hand comment as a footnote that they flew to Japan and killed everyone. There are several instances like this that made it less enjoyable and I felt like I missed chunks and information. Maybe I need to read the other series for Brownstone? The authors are really good at curating relationships between her and everyone except for the man she's in an actual relationship with. It's a little frustrating. That's why I rated it a four instead of a five star.

3 The Social Savvy Of A Turnip Stars
Dead In Plain Sight is the fourth book in the I Fear No Evil series by Martha Carr and Michael Anderle.
Oof, this book was all of over the place and could only be read if you have the insight that having previously read The Unbelievable Mr. Brownstone series gives you. If not, there are too instances where only vague outlines of interactions were mentioned. This is definitely showcasing the fact this is a spin off series and not its own main story.
But Brownstone's story doesn't yet highlight the deep and concerning alien concern. There are at least two others species, or at least alien languages, not related in origin to Oriceran. They've been here for a while, but it's obvious that James came a long time after them, and fairly recently. Is he tied to the funeral the meteorite was a part of, in his delivery to this world? Also, how did he come to have the name he does given his complete lack of understandable language when he was found?
Are we going to encounter an alien invasion or battle in the next book, or two? We know at least that the government is looking for these other extraterrestrials. I wonder where they are hiding? And what their intentions are for the human inhabitants of planet Earth? Is Durand someone to be concerned about? Why is so creepy and secretive? Was that attempted hit on Shay at the end of this book his doing?
More mundane concerns focus primarily on Peyton's brother reopening his murder case, and looking for him. Will he have the ability to allow Shay to take care of the problem in her particular way? Will Peyton be safe?

Great read!
I like the more Brownstone interaction. Also i like the smoother read on the things that have happened in the Brownstone books. I do t feel like I'm reading a copy with just a slight twist. Also, I don't yet know how I feel about the whole alien stuff.. I think it might just be to over the top for me. I'm not sure. I'm trying to give it the benefit of the doubt since it does involve brownstone and I might just like it but I'm still holding my opinion on it. Regarding all these new enemies I'm not sure i feel the whole "Shay is a badass but 3 people have so early given her the slip? It just feel so fake and out of character and a bit dumb but I'm also seeing were this is going before I say "forget about this series" can't wait for book 5

More enjoyable than book 3
I think they did a better job of tying the characters together in this book than in the last. I'm interested to find out the link with Lily, Shay's promise to clear up the Peyton issue, how Durand will play out, just how far Shay will push the parkour training, and of course, how Brownstone and mom Shay will end up working with Alyson. I've now caught the link more clearly to the 20 year ago with Leira, but I've only read 2 of those books (but I love the character Yumfuck and his greeting of the day "mother f-er". Maybe I'll pause and work on some of the Keira books next.

Frequent flyer a Tomb Raider
Drop bears, bunyips, lizards and dessert; what more can you expect from Australia - just love it! Really hope Shay has frequent flyer points with all the travelling she does in this book...lol Finally we see her and James’s relationship developing further with Shay leaving a toothbrush at his place. And who is James? Shay is starting to get some ideas but is she on the right track, we can only wait and see. Another excellent book in the Oriceran Universe series.

The Drive To Be Number One
Shay has been beaten to an artifact by a rival tomb raider and she is annoyed. The probability of her boyfriend being from a third planet seems more and more likely. As things get more and more strange, Shay remembers a water spirit's premonition that for good or ill, she is a person of Destiny. Her assistant, Peyton, is having problems staying dead, and Lily is still an enigma. I look forward to the next book.

Extremely entertaining series
And extremely entertaining series with a great cast of characters. One series in a group of multiple series in the same universe. With crossovers of characters from each book into the others. See their different lives from different points of view and what goes on in their daily lives. An action packed urban fantasy action thriller series. Well worth the read check it out

Shay has a nemesis...or two
Shay is off on more adventures, her first nemesis enters in a strange fashion and because of him, she finds herself exploring new exercise that may help out on her other adventures. Then she has another tomb raider, no matter what fancy title he wants to give himself, that is becoming a fly in her ointment. In the meantime, our dear Peyton has found himself at the center of what could be another interesting adventure!

Remember when I said the books were improving.
Well, that went downhill pretty quick.
The book had a massive amount of spelling and grammatical errors, making me confused at what was going on, I was also bored throughout the story, the writing felt slow and clunky which I have noticed in some of the books in the Oriceren Universe. I keep trying not to compare it to The Unbelievable Mr Bronwstone but since some scenes are exactly the same in this series as in UBB, it's hard not to.

Something feels like it is missing from this one. It goes into many fun mini adventures but lacks a cohesive whole narrative at some points.
Also the book seems to be becoming harder to read. By that I mean I’ve noticed pacing issues as well as a seeming general "confusion" on direction by the author.
Overall, fun but by far not the best in the series. Maybe the premise is getting worn, but something seems off about this particular novel.

Excellent series..... Book 4 just adds to the plotline.
Shay is back in fine form as she deals with a new competitor who works for the Government. Plus she is dealing with Peyton and teenage elf Lily....all of which makes Shay want to stomp them both into the dirt. Waiting for next book to see what happens.

Very good
This was the first Shay series book I've read. I've read all the Mr. Brownstone books but the Shay books always seemed to be set before the latest Mr. Brownstone books. This book was set in the current timeline and was very well done. This series is on my must read list.

Loving Shay and James books thanks!!
Oriceran is now my favorite destination for reading. Love the work you and Michael are doing with Shay and James. Can't wait to discover the next adventure and hoping Durand finally gets what's coming to him. I love how you have improved Peyton's character so many cliff hanging characters I love it!!

What can I say Shay is becoming a real girl
So all kinds of background filling for me I started with brownstone first so I’m getting shay’s side and shay’s “world “ Lilly is a great addition leaves room for a jr tomb raiders club? Or maybe Allison’s world and Lilly’s can meet who knows just enjoying the ride!

So exciting
Shay is learning so much about the world and it's history and it is very exciting. Peyton has not realized that it is possible that his trying to date is causing his problems. Will Stay ever tell James all?

Speeding right along
More action, more laughs, more danger, and more magic. Also more self-discovery and personal growth. I'm loving reading about things from Shay's perspective and can't wait for the next book.

Bad timing
The story is good but it seems like I've read it before you need to keep the books in sync or just write one book a little bigger. I don't get me wrong I really enjoyed reading it

Another great book!
Love how this series and Mr Brownstone are working together but not stepping on each other! When will Lilly show up in the other series? Is she getting her own set of books with her magical misfit gang? That would be great!

Shay, Brownstone, Alison, Peyton, Lily
Shay and Brownstone are continuing to work to defeat their enemies. Lily has disappeared, and Shay is looking for her. Peyton keeps looking for Lily as well.
Characterization and plotting are excellent.

While I enjoy the main character and I appreciate the intertwining of the story with the Brownstone series (which I also read), I felt this book jumped from one thing to the next. It felt less like a stand alone book and more like a "companion" book to other book series.

I'm loving both Shay n Brownstone's books, really enjoyed every one so far, but writing reviews for them all? Nah, you get 5 stars tho!😂
