Full of great, sometimes quirky ideas, but most of all - foolproof recipes and baking tips. Liam was my favourite contestant of GBBO2017, loved seeing what he would come up next! His ideas were not only appealing visually, but I can only imagine that they tasted great too - his flavour combos were always sounding delicious!

description

What I really like about this book is the way it was written - you can actually hear Liam's voice in your head when your eyes are skipping through the words. I'm happy that he stayed true to himself and wrote it his way :) makes for a far way better read that most of the cookbooks!
Easy to follow instructions, most of them step by step, no complicated techniques, all easily achievable in your home kitchen!

This little cookbook (or should I write "baking book") will be brilliant for anyone who wants to play a bit with their baking, have fun with tastes, but also the look of your creations :) besides isn't that what it's all about - having fun and enjoying the process itself..!?

seems like a rather average book overall, but sometimes inventive flavors
part fad/part surreal/part mediocre

---
some of the odd combinations have been done before

like banana cake which goes to the turn of the century, but chocolate banana cake is a lot less common

and italian style polenta cake, with chocolate and oranges and orange peel and powdered almonds with instant coffee

---

banana chocolate swiss

flour - cinnamon - nutmeg
sugar - butter - eggs
bananas - egg white - almond extract
dark chocolate - double cream - cocoa powder
almond flakes - banana chips

chocolate and orange polenta cake

butter - sugar - eggs
ground almonds - polenta - oranges
icing sugar - instant coffee powder - double cream
dark chocolate - candied orange peel

oreo shake cake

sugar = flour - cocoa powder
dark chocolate chips - instant coffee powder - buttermilk
vegetable oil - eggs - butter
icing sugar - oreo cookies - double cream
dark chocolate - ice cream wafers - chocolate flakes

nach-o-ordinary tortilla chips [the ghastly]

vegetable oil - dark chocolate - double cream
sugar - salted popcorn - cinnamon
corn tortillas - sour cream - cream cheese
honey - lime - mint

[everyone needs cream cheese and chocolate nachos like a hole in the head]

falafel scones

chickpea - rapeseed oil - smoked paprika
cumin - turmeric - dried herb mixture
flour - eggs - butter
chives - parsley - feta cheese - sun-dried tomatoes

[it's just scones with feta cheese and sun dried tomatoes and some chives]
[with a crappy falafel crumble crust on top]

shout out to nan

goat leg - lemon - fresh ginger
curry powder - turmeric - all-purpose seasoning mix
thyme - onion - red onions
yellow pepper - red pepper - potato
plantain - flour - butter - eggs

[just sounds like goat meat jerk with some crappy potato and peppers added into a tart]
[but a nice touch with the plantain for odd]
[for me the potato sets me off]

salt fish doughnuts

vegetable oil - flour - turmeric
sugar - yeast - eggs
tamarind paste - butter - dried salt fish
callaloo - onion - tomato
red pepper - yellow pepper

peanut butter and jelly sandwich tart

flour - butter - lemon
thyme - egg yolk - honey roasted peanuts
honey - peanut oil - golden sugar
egg whites - blackberry jam

plantain tarte tatin

golden sugar - plantain - oranges
puff pastry - double cream - dark rum
ginger - cayenne - cinnamon
cloves - raisins

rhubarb and custard

butter - golden sugar
milk - flour - eggs
almond extract - ground almonds
oranges - ginger - egg yolks
ginger - rhubarb - icing sugar
pink food colouring - yellow food colouring

[only interesting for the almond liqueur or almond extract and oranges and ground almonds]
[not a bad use of roobarb like rhubard and strawberry pie]
[but an odd use of nasty food colorings that might add a bitter tinge]
[but people like their desserts to look vibrant]

Chilled rice pudding creme brulee

pears - blackberries - lemons
pudding rice - milk - double cream
cardamom - white chocolate - sugar

[i think the pears and chocolate ruin it]

malted crepes

flour - cinnamon - sugar
eggs - milk - malt powder
mascarpone - cream cheese
icing sugar - brandy - double cream

pre-dinner pies [ick]

flour - thyme - rosemary
butter - eggs - lemon
vinegar - fresh ginger
turkey breast - potato
all-purpose seasoning mixture - herb mixture
black pepper - pancetta - brie
oranges - cranberries - cinnamon stick

[fruity potato with chicken and cheese]
[chicken pot pies from hell]
[just put thanksgiving dinner in a blender and add gravy while you're at it]

oh, how cheesy

smoked streaky bacon - bread - maple syrup
aged cheddar - gruyere - mozzarella

[a fancy bacon sandwich in a hot dog bun without the HP sauce and sometimes mayo]
[i've used tyrolean bacon/black forest bacon with green relish in a hot dog bun myself]
[usually it's better than the hot dog]

chocolate and peanut and bacon sarnie/sandwich

smoked streaky bacon - butter - flour
cocoa powder - icing sugar - peanut butter - pretzels

[peanut butter with bacon sandwich has been around for years]
[just cocoa and sugar as the extra which is like some Dutch/Belgian peanut butter/hazelnut like spreads, some with crushed up cookies or cocoa in them, uh like a cinnamon cookie spread]
[like gingerbread cinnamon toast]

white lime hazelnut biscotti

flour - sugar - eggs
hazelnut - ime - white chocolate

---

so about 16 things got my attention
and a third of those are interesting, but a novelty
so like 75% of the book is definately sub-par

---

i like the
three cakes
interesting brulee crepe and biscotti

---

and the biggest minuses but interestingly weird enough to try once, maybe

scary nachos with cream cheese popcorn chocolate and mint (!)
a feta scone with oily sundried tomatoes with a nasty falafel dusting on top
a potato and plantain jerk goat meat tart
a salt fish doughnut

i'm massively underwhelmed and minorly charmed

but there is zero to like about half the book

Cakes, biscuits, scones, cheesecakes... what more could you possibly want!

Innovative designs, lovely flavour combinations and easy to follow techniques.

A great book, some recipes are much quicker and simpler than others, but all are doable for home bakers as long as you ensure you have the correct equipment and ingredients.

I loved Liam on the Bake Off and his own show, can’t wait to see what he does next.

Though I liked Liam on GBBO, I didn't enjoy his cookbook as much as I expected to. It certainly has some delicious looking treats, but after a while, I got tired of all his "cheekiness" and slang. Still wouldn't turn down anything in here.

Liam is one of my favorite people whom I wish I could meet. This cookbook is fabulous and just as cheeky and interesting as he is. I can't wait to tackle all of these recipes, but I would have bought it for his personality and wit that shine through on the pages alone!
